Mind you, having seen the murcielago lap that did a 1:23.7, I thought it couldn't have been the stig cause his line into the 1st corner was too wide and he did the lap quite slowly so... maybe that was Damon

The Nissan GTR is one of those rare miracle cars, faster than a Zonda around a circuit, reasonably affordable considering the performance on offer and with enough practicality to use daily. I was on a track day with a couple of them shortly after they came out and they way they dig in on a corner exit and just disappear is something else to behold.
i 100% agree but its disappointing they haven't aged very well, they were groundbreaking when released for a few years. they kept up with the fastest supercars and were much much cheaper. Now in order to even be considered in performance tests with the supercars of today you need the NISMO GTR and that car is 200,000... not such a bargain. and its performance just isnt above the pack anymore. its kinda on the side with NSX and Audi R8 :/ i put them in a category of "Needs new innovation" Porsche was in that category then they released the new GT2 RS same with mercadies then they released the AMG GTR and pro edition. every brand is stepping up. lambo SVJ/Viper ACR/ The GTR needs something fresh with an all time high performance like a GTR NISMO Track or something and make it run consistent sub 7 nurburgring laps. it would revive the brand and that model if you asked me.

Its like a Carrera GT you know? Sure its fast, but it was never meant to be record-breakingly fast... meaning its not defined nor was it engineered to show off its balls. Hence why these cars kept good value whilst other supercars have significantly lost theirs (among other reasons).
Original comment poster here :) I don't think the two are comparable and agree the Zonda is a work of art compared to the GTR, however the fact remains, the GTR was faster than this version of the Zonda, if lap time is your only criteria then the GTR is faster. My point was, that for the money the GTR is pretty incredible, I doubt very much its boring to drive and I'd wager anyone who has a GTR is getting more use out of it day to day than someone with a Zonda.The Zonda as you guys say is a work of art and a very lovely one at that. The GTR is a workhorse, but as workhorses go its an incredibly capable one. Either way we are all car fans so whatever you have get out and drive it :)
That Arial Atom is fast AF! Love how the Stig man handles these cars.This is how a super car company should showcase their vehicles in a video or commercial. Anyone can produce performance numbers because most people dont know enough to argue but actually showing how well the vehicles can perform under preferable conditions and driven by professionals would show anyone what's up.

The Stig was sad to see it get beaten by the Egg though. It was a beautiful car (and still is). Horacio Pagani, ever the perfectionist, was personally there and had it polished and what not for the filming.

Another British car to post a good time is the Ultima GTR on road tyres - 1.12.8. Type in Ultima GTR Top Gear to watch. It also did it on slicks at 1.09.9 type in Top Gear Lap Record Ultima GTR 720. And yes, it can get over speed humps.
The rules i always understood of the track is . Car is to be road registered ie a road car secondly ,the car to go over a sleeping policeman . Firstly .That not allowing the caparo is. B S The caparo is fully road registered/road legal so classed as a road car . Secondly its got all adjustable suspension so the height of the car can be adjusted higher so it could go over a sleeping policeman . Its not much diffrent to the ariel atom tbh 👍
The Caterhams lap is the best. It doesn`t mather what the clock says, the stig smiled so hard, while thrashing it around the corners, it actually bent his helmet.
Wow, this video is 10 years old. I remember the Ferrari FXX….or whatever one is based off the Enzo did a 1:10 something. It was first place in that season beating second place by 7 seconds.

Can't cheat physics, power to weight ratio does it again..... Gotta respect a giant go cart dominating millions of dollars worth of cars and the absurd amount of combined engineering experience it took to make them. ... And make it look easy, in the wet.
Cars are more than just for times though, if times were everything, a 250 cc supercart worth 40k would have trashed every single one of them on a handling track like Dunsfold till date, including the hypercars. And you could drift that thing like mad around every corner. That said the new version of the Atom is even better.

On top speed once again @ 380 km/h you dont have amything except million dollars cars so forget with your 100k. you are not understanding the ferocity and precision of the car and the fact it has 20 year advance in his time bit dont have to mess with the shitty regulations of today (pedestrian protection, airbags, emission concerns etc)
@@jorge8596 I wouldn't jump to conclusions so quick. The greatest advancement in lap times over the decades has more to do with tires. Back in the day, Mclaren only pulled 0.87 g's - which sounds horrible by todays standards - yet is the same as an e46 M3, which was applauded for it's grip and handling. If you put some r888's on the mclaren, I would be hard-pressed to say it wouldn't compete given it's specs (and the fact it never came with carbon ceramic brakes - which Murray was contemplating but deemed it too much at the time). The GT-R posted it's lap on the Nurburgiring on slicks that were cut up to make them look like road tires lol - yes it makes that much of a difference.

On top speed once again @ 380 km/h you dont have amything except million dollars cars so forget with your 100k. you are not understanding the ferocity and precision of the car and the fact it has 20 year advance in his time bit dont have to mess with the shitty regulations of today (pedestrian protection, airbags, emission concerns etc)
@@jorge8596 I wouldn't jump to conclusions so quick. The greatest advancement in lap times over the decades has more to do with tires. Back in the day, Mclaren only pulled 0.87 g's - which sounds horrible by todays standards - yet is the same as an e46 M3, which was applauded for it's grip and handling. If you put some r888's on the mclaren, I would be hard-pressed to say it wouldn't compete given it's specs (and the fact it never came with carbon ceramic brakes - which Murray was contemplating but deemed it too much at the time). The GT-R posted it's lap on the Nurburgiring on slicks that were cut up to make them look like road tires lol - yes it makes that much of a difference.
