A little turbo lag, easily prevented by high rpm's and quick shifting, is a minor price to pay vs. rallying a 2 metre wide, 2 ton heavy RWD supercar one inch off the ground.

I've owned an Evo IX for 6 years, and despite driving cars like the M3, GTR, 458, 911 turbo, Viper GTS, Panamera turbo, 5.0 POS mustang etc, I have never found a better car where you can feel the road through your arse and the drivers wheel and drive it on the limit with as much pleasure as the Evo. The only thing comparable to a crisp 4cyl, spooling turbo, and blow off valve (in my opinion) was the 458 with the symphony behind your head. Yes the interior is plastic, yes i've spent an ungodly amount of money on mods, yes the turbo takes the better part of a decade to reach full load if you're at low rev, but walking out to it as a daily driver makes you smile every time you let off the pedal and let the BOV flutter. I cycle through cars faster than my grandma uses colostemy bags, but this car is the shit, and its the only car I can confidently say I will never sell. Three year update since comment = 152k miles at 400whp on stock block, no issue but the fuel pump. (purchased for 17k in 2010) Four year update since comment = 159k miles - detuned to 340whp on stock block. Eventually I'll rebuild, but still hasn't blown!!! 10 years, going strong but with a conservative map
Watching this video both makes me so happy and so sad. Gone are the days of Japanese automotive ingenuity and originality. The 80s to early 2000's were truly the heyday of Japanese cars. From Toyota to Honda to Nissan.

Years ago I witnessed a Subaru Impreza beating a F50 during a 3 lap race on a closed track. Both drivers had raced professionally. The F50 driver was furious for losing to such an "ordinary" car.

technically that was tuned up. the euro spec MR is more powerful than the US spec MR...and the MR is lighter than the standard evo 8. If they had put a standard US spec evo 8 against the lambo it would not have done as well.
These days you can get a used EVO in good condition for around 50 thousand, a Murcielago on the other hand will put you back around 450 to half a million. Lambos always appreciate in value.
The evo has a big advantage over the Murcielago in weight terms. The evo weighs 3,264 pounds (1,480 kg) and the 2009 Murcielago is 4,058 pounds (1,841kg). The Murcielago has straight line speed but the weight really holds it back. I have to say it handle very well for being 900 pounds heavier than the Evo
Let's not forget it's a supersport car and it's meant to be fast. So there's no reason to appreciate it's acceptable handling because of its heavy weight.
Thats my car, only in silver. My daily driver. 19 years old, 278,000 miles. Virtually everything was rebuilt in 2020. Bought it new, always maintained, serviced. Looks and drives like new. LOVE it!
+Filip Gereg But see, that's the brilliant side of the Evo. You can afford one. I can pick up an Evo 8, here in the States for 15k. Even new, they're only 30-40k, for the performance of a Lambo on a track. It's fantastic. But, won't look near as nice, nor sound as nice.
i've had an Evo 8 MR since 2013 and it is by far the easiest car to drive in my collection. my wife regularly daily drives it. i've done about 7 grand in engine work and on an eco tune it makes about 680 bhp. i've rolled the fenders, jumped up to 265/45r18's and have it sitting on FEAL 442 coilovers and the rest of the suspension upgraded with Cusco parts. finished it off with a set of Kansei Roku wheels wrapped in Falken rubber. the only car that i prefer over this in my collection personally is my SR20det FD rx7, guess that's a good thing though as the wife tends to keep the MR.

PistulsPK The Boss 302,and GT500 still cannot corner, the Camaro's have Australian suspension, so they obviously will corner well, and I don't know why you'd even judge cornering on a front wheel drive car like the Focus. I mean it's not a car built to corner. The ZR-1 is good at cornering. The viper is good at cornering, that's kind of it when it comes to American cars being able to corner.

technically that was tuned up. the euro spec MR is more powerful than the US spec MR...and the MR is lighter than the standard evo 8. If they had put a standard US spec evo 8 against the lambo it would not have done as well.

The evo has a big advantage over the Murcielago in weight terms. The evo weighs 3,264 pounds (1,480 kg) and the 2009 Murcielago is 4,058 pounds (1,841kg). The Murcielago has straight line speed but the weight really holds it back. I have to say it handle very well for being 900 pounds heavier than the Evo

+Filip Gereg But see, that's the brilliant side of the Evo. You can afford one. I can pick up an Evo 8, here in the States for 15k. Even new, they're only 30-40k, for the performance of a Lambo on a track. It's fantastic. But, won't look near as nice, nor sound as nice.

i've had an Evo 8 MR since 2013 and it is by far the easiest car to drive in my collection. my wife regularly daily drives it. i've done about 7 grand in engine work and on an eco tune it makes about 680 bhp. i've rolled the fenders, jumped up to 265/45r18's and have it sitting on FEAL 442 coilovers and the rest of the suspension upgraded with Cusco parts. finished it off with a set of Kansei Roku wheels wrapped in Falken rubber. the only car that i prefer over this in my collection personally is my SR20det FD rx7, guess that's a good thing though as the wife tends to keep the MR.

Emilian Cailean Nah man, they're OK as a daily (I've got an E6, not just talking out my ass). I maintain it regularly and it's been good to me - never had any breakages or anything. Fuel economy is definitely a bit rubbish, but hey, it's a performance car so what else do you expect?
