I'm old. I admit it. The new "Fatboy" might be a good bike but it's not a Fatboy. LIke the new Chevy Blazer is not a Blazer and the new Bronco is not a Bronco... I like things the way they were - hahaha. I put 93,000 miles on an '05 Heritage Softail. I loved that bike. I only got rid of it to get an Ultra Limited so my wife would be more comfortable on our long trips. If I could afford another softail, it would be a carbureted Evo. It's not fast, but it's the ultimate nostalgic Harley style and sound.
In my opinion, both bikes look great and represent the eras in which they were made. I just wish Harley still offered the newer M8 FB in a blacked-out version like the Fat Boy S. Once they throw the 117 in the FB I will trade my FLSS in.
I ride a 2011 Fatboy lo. I prefer the the older model than the new one. The new Fatboy reminds me of my friends m109R for some reason but that's what I think.however I never rode the M8 but I think it would be badass. Ride safe everyone.
I like both probably leaning a little towards the 2018. Very cool looking bikes but for some reason, I'm just not a fan of the solid front wheels. They look cool on the back though.
Rode old and new. The biggest difference is the feel of the motor bouncing or not. I like feeling the motor bounce personally. That’s what makes it a Harley
I like the engine improvements on the M8, but it doesn't sound like a proper HD to my ears. Styling-wise, I like the older look. I've got a 2015 FB, and I'm in no hurry to trade it in on a new one.
I’ve owned an old and new Fatboy and I respect the opinions of both sides as to which bike looks better..I will say that the suspension and 114 motor on the new bike beats the older one hands down..enjoy your ride..
Your camera needs to be lower so you can see more of the bike as you ride it. I like the original Fat Boy, way more visually appealing and classic bike.
I have a 2019 Fatboy. I love it!! I went from a 2012 street glide with 103 to this one. The Milwaukee 8 seems better in every way over the twin can to me. Mine has the 114 on it. Power is bonkers for a cruiser.
I almost bought a 2019/114 FB . . . . BUT . . . I thought for $27,000 CAD I better fall in love with this thing! So . . . I rented one for a weekend off my local dealer from his demo fleet. Cost me $200 CAD . . . money well spent. First impressions of the 2019: I like the new front headlight design. I hate the fenders . . . especially the rear . . . too short IMHO. I ABSOLUTELY HATE the larger tires . . especially the rear . . . too wide. Takes noticeably more effort in the twisties. Stock HD suspension on the 2019 FB IS STILL CRAP . . . just like all their bikes. I HATE the Throttle By Wire . . . . nothing beats properly set throttle cables. Yes . . . the 114 M8 makes a bit more power than the 103 TC . . . but not the night and day difference I expected . . . and no . . . I am not spending 6000+ to give the 103 more power. If have the urge to go faster, I will ride my 2008 Honda CBF1000 that day and beat almost anything out there and it only cost me $4700 CAD. Yes I have 2 Hondas and a Fatboy. :) So . . . went looking for a nice 2017 or older FB which I like the overall, traditional FB look better anyway. Found a MINT, one-owner 2013 FB Lo with 10,000 miles on it. Had about $4000 CAD in nice accessories on it including V&H Big Long Shots and SE Ventilator Air Cleaner. Bought it for $12,000 CAD ($9000 USD) Cash. Bike included ALL the OEM parts. BONUS! Rode it home 18 miles. HATED the V&H pipes. WAY TOO LOUD! HATED the stock rear suspension. Once home (same day), I took off the V&H pipes and SE Air Cleaner and installed the stock pipes and air filter. AWESOME! Sold those parts for $700 CAD. Next day ordered Progressive Suspension 422C Heavy Duty Rear shocks and Fork Springs which cost about $900 CAD. They arrived a week later and I installed the PS shocks at there highest position. Took it for a ride and WOW! No more bottoming out. LOVE IT! Following weekend we did the PS fork springs and set the steering head bearings. WOW AGAIN! Next Monday, installed a set of Michelin Commander 3s after taking of the CRAP Dunlops. DOUBLE WOW!!!! Now, I love this bike!!!!! I am 5' 7" and it fits me like a glove with stock handlebars and floorboards. It handles very well with no bottoming out. It is quiet and does not kill my ears or piss off the neighbors. I cruises all day long at 70-75 MPH and gets 60+ Miles per Canadian Gallon of gas. Even at 70 MPH it has enough passing power to feel safe when needed. I will do a bit over 100 MPH but it loves 70-75 at under 3000 RPM. What else do I need???? Just my opinion and overall opinion . . . for less than half the price of a new Fatboy . . . I have exactly what I always wanted.
I have a 2020 Fatboy, love the bike, but it is a local bike. Yes I do ride it across the country. Got windshield, cruise, bags etc.. but it is not a street or road glide.
What was it they called it ? A boulevard cruiser. Suits me fine as these day I can't go far ,have a sick wife. But I can still walk in my garage and admire it.
Just got my 2020 Fat Boy 114 two weeks ago, straightaway went stage 4 131 on it and internals all S&S with the Kerker Bootlegger 2into1 exhaust and done 'n upped the rear wheel to a 260 instead of the 240 it came with. Absolutely in love with the bike. Nothing compares. real comfy and when necessary packs a serious punch. surprisingly also handles quite well.
I've grown up loving the Fatboys, and I didn't like the new one at first but it's definitely grown on me. When you look at it you KNOW it's a Fatboy, and that's what matters. It's definitely making it's statement and letting you know, and that's what matters!
Thanks Mason. You won't believe what you are about to read. I recently traded my BMW GS in for my first Harley a Pan American Special and as good as the bike is , and it is good , I was missing the low down toque of the GS but couldn't go back to one as I have made so many friends at our local Harley dealership over here in the UK. What to do then ! Bank account was dry having brought the PAS so all I could do was to buy an older Harley. So I have brought a 2014 Fat boy and I just love it. Its great to see that you have a lot of respect for the older version as well. Definitely as you advice going to get a screen for it as well. Can you recommend anyone in the States to buy one from. Stay safe out there. Ted
The new Fatboy don’t measure up. When HD modified the 2012 to a 103 ci and widened the frame to accommodate much wider rubber that was a very nice upgrade that kept the old school styling and look. But the total remake in 2018 is a totally different bike with Fatboy badging. Personally, HD in my opinion made a huge marketing mistake by stealing the Fatboy name and putting it on a totally different bike that in its own merits is a good bike but now has to live up to a pedigree that just is not possible. HD should have given this bike a brand new identity, not one it can never live up to.This marketing blunder will not help sales. If HD wanted to kill of the Fatboy, that’s fine. Just don’t still a non -transferable Identity and history. Ironically, though this total remake is not water cooled, it has more in common with the VRod that was also killed off. In my first initial disappointing walk around, I was feeling VRod, again another marketing mistake by HD.
Funny those are all the reasons I don't like it. haha I'll take skinnier tires, a better sounding engine and a round headlight. I guess I'm old school. I don't need a "fast" Harley.
I like the old school look and design, currently at the stage of what to choose between a early model Fatboy or a later model with the milwaukee 8 engine that has more grunt, especially on the long hauls of 12 hours or more. Or do i go with a softtail. The full fenders is what attracts me, especially if your riding in wet weather most of the time. I think that what puts me off the latest FatBoy, color choice is minimal.
No, HD made a marketing blunder in my opinion. The Fatboy was actually killed off and the name should have been retired as well. This new bike is more reminiscent of the VRod even though it’s not liquid cooled. Say what you want, think what you want. But the fact that some yrs after the release of this remake, everyone won’t stop comparing them. That does not speak well for the remake. Also in what I’ve read, this remake is a absolute MFR to have to work on. Here’s the bottom line, solid wheels do not make this remake a Fatboy. My experience in my initial walk around of the remake was a disappointment. Had it been called a VRod??, it would have been more favorable in my opinion. My assessment? The remake is a poor representative of the Iconic Fatboy we all love, as I said , the fact that we are still having this conversation means it’s a bust and unworthy. Yea, it’s faster, but a Big Yamaha will still eat its lunch, besides it it was all about going fast, I’d be on easier to maintain faster Yamaha. Yes, this is my experience, I’ve got a beautiful 2012 Fatboy Lo, and that big menacing Yamaha that requires much less maintenance both in work and cost. But hey go buy the newby if you like it and earmark a sizable budget to have the thing worked on by techs because as I said it’s a mother to work on. And I disagree I would never take a Milwaukee 8 over a 110 or a 103 for that matter, but that’s just my preference.
Not in the states. Once you’ve got your full motorcycle endorsement you can ride a bike with virtually any displacement. My first bike was also an HD Dyna. I bought it the week after I got my endorsement. It had a 96ci motor in it. Perfect learner’s bike, in my opinion
@@TheTwoWheeledTeacher ah, but once you got your full license. So whilst a learner, what were you riding. Something much smaller in capacity I'm sure, hence my point that a Harley is not one's first motorbike
Nope, there was no learners permit stage for me. Took a close over the course of a weekend. Spent about 8 hours in a parking lot on a Honda 250, 8 hours in a classroom and left with a full motorcycle license.
@@TheTwoWheeledTeacher well I guess a Dyna is a more sensible machine than some. Easy to ride, therefore ok for a novice, but still too big and heavy for a UK legal aged 17yo I'd say. Well that was the legal age for passing a full sized motorbike test when I did, back in 1977 aged 17. Now UK motorbike tests, with your age, experience and bike power rating, are so complicated now, I've lost track. I don't think the government really wants us riding motorcycles, so make it very difficult to get legal.
I don't classify the 2018 as a fatboy. Just cause it's got solid wheels and fat tires and a wider frame don't make it one. I understand things need to evolve but 06,07 were slight changes were ok. It might be pigeon holed but 2018 was a complete revamp and not for the better in my opinion. The terminator movie was when i fell in love with the bike. They should have changed the heritage softtail instead. Since it was similar to the fatboy.
As the Owner of a 2012 Fatboy Lo, the first yr it got bumped to a 103 ci, 6 speed tranny and I widened from to accommodate a 200 mm rear tire that I special ordered because my dealer did not have even one of. Understand I don’t ride a Fatboy because I can’t afford an Ultra ! I ride a Fatboy because it’s the most beautiful Harley Davidson ever made and it was always my favorite period. This totally changed bike is far closer to the VRod that got killed off, Ironically the Fatboy was killed off as well, only they kept the name and logo. But when I walk around this new bike, it feels more like a VRod, not a Fatboy. The fact that we are even having this conversation don’t vote well for the new VRod, I mean Fatboy, my bad , or rather HD’s Bad.
I have the 2010 Fatboy Lo, and I love it. Ironically, I put a freight train cowl and thicker trim ring on it. I just liked the look better. I do wish it had the bigger 107 engine.
After riding almost every kind of motorcycle made since I was 11 years old (I'm 70 now and have owned 5 different Harleys and about 40 other bikes) and even professionally racing some I can tell you for certain that a half hour ride tells you nothing about any motorcycle. Vibration of the motorcycle at idle means nothing!!! I prefer riding the older Harleys before they put balancers in the motors to smooth them out. They have a distinct soul...the newer Harleys have much much less because they run so smoothly. They don't really even sound like a real Harley anymore....Not a bad video, but no real substance here.
I prefer the look of the 2011. I would like to know if you have made a comparison between the heritage and the fat boy. I have a 2014 heritage and love it.
New school....Yes i`m a boomer. But Harley must evolve...They did that well in 2018 with the Fatboy. Look at Harley throughout each decade.....There is always progression....and there is always the preowned market if you don`t like it.
I have test ridden both and both ride awesome. I do agree the M8 has the torque and IMO 2018 had less vibration on the handle which was a big plus. I do like the older style rear fender better versus the bob look on the new model. At the end, I would buy the new model for the new technologies (keyless, automatic security, automatic turn signal off, digital display, LED, etc). Technology is there and I would like to take advantage of it
You didn't notice anything about the suspension? Are you kidding ? I've owned a 2017 (110) and now a 2021 (114) fat boy and I can tell you the suspension is better on the 2021. On the 2017 every bump on the road was felt, especially when riding two up, just ask my girlfriend. The engine in the 2021 is amazing and faster than the 2017. Also the heat coming from the engine is less on the 2021. The kick stand on the 2021 is shorter an feels like the bike is going to tip over. You feel the wind much more on 2021 than the 2017. Going above 80mph on the 2021 is very uncomfortable vs the 2017. I guess its because of the way the headlight sits. Overall I think the 2021 is a much better improvement over the 2017. Your review left out a lot
I'm also in Tallahassee, I run a hot rod / paint shop. Actually used to paint for the Tally Harley store. Anyway, I ride a 1990 Fatboy and love it. Its not my XZ11, but its a great riding OG bike. Love it.
I hope someone can help me... SO many positive as negative comments I heard and now I just don't know what to think. Is this engine very reliable? It's a great lookin' bike, a dream, but for that price the last think you want to know is that oyu didn't bought a bullet proof machine. I know that all motorcycles can have issues, but I think you understand my point. I only want to have that confidence of the engine between my legs and trust that will not have an issue in the mid of the road or a problematic engine you know? Just want that "for-life" spirit without big issues... In other chapter, great video as always Mason, priceless quality and thank you for coming with all this information Keep riding safe brothers

In my opinion, both bikes look great and represent the eras in which they were made. I just wish Harley still offered the newer M8 FB in a blacked-out version like the Fat Boy S. Once they throw the 117 in the FB I will trade my FLSS in.
Harley should have kept the big fenders and headlight.
I ride a 2011 Fatboy lo. I prefer the the older model than the new one. The new Fatboy reminds me of my friends m109R for some reason but that's what I think.however I never rode the M8 but I think it would be badass. Ride safe everyone.
And don't forget to wear your high viz 😊
I agree but they look like a rice burner.
@@jbeam794 yep, jap bike
1340 Evo FTW
I own the grand daddy…1990 Fatboy. Love it!
I just bought a 2013 Fat Boy. I prefer the classic one.
I love my 2004 Fatboy.
I don't like that new headlight that is butt ugly. I like to look of the old ones I have a 98.
I’ll keep with my 1998.
Your camera needs to be lower so you can see more of the bike as you ride it. I like the original Fat Boy, way more visually appealing and classic bike.
What about the handling in the curves…the new frame is supposed to handle better?
I was in Tallahassee, FL. Not too many real twisties in Leon County to give you a good diea
I have a 2019 Fatboy. I love it!! I went from a 2012 street glide with 103 to this one. The Milwaukee 8 seems better in every way over the twin can to me. Mine has the 114 on it. Power is bonkers for a cruiser.
I wish they would've stuck with the old school front end and headlight on the new fatboys
Old one looks way better
It does have that OG Harley feel to it for sure
Newer look. Former owner of a 2021 Fatty, now on a Street Glide - I do miss riding my Fatty and regret trading it in.
I almost bought a 2019/114 FB . . . . BUT . . .
I thought for $27,000 CAD I better fall in love with this thing!
So . . . I rented one for a weekend off my local dealer from his demo fleet.
Cost me $200 CAD . . . money well spent.
First impressions of the 2019:
I like the new front headlight design.
If have the urge to go faster, I will ride my 2008 Honda CBF1000 that day
and beat almost anything out there and it only cost me $4700 CAD.
Yes I have 2 Hondas and a Fatboy. :)
So . . . went looking for a nice 2017 or older FB which I like
the overall, traditional FB look better anyway.
Found a MINT, one-owner 2013 FB Lo with 10,000 miles on it.
Had about $4000 CAD in nice accessories on it including V&H Big Long Shots
and SE Ventilator Air Cleaner.
Bought it for $12,000 CAD ($9000 USD) Cash.
Bike included ALL the OEM parts. BONUS!
Rode it home 18 miles.
HATED the V&H pipes. WAY TOO LOUD!
HATED the stock rear suspension.
Once home (same day), I took off the V&H pipes and SE Air Cleaner
and installed the stock pipes and air filter. AWESOME!
Sold those parts for $700 CAD.
Next day ordered Progressive Suspension 422C Heavy Duty Rear shocks and Fork Springs
which cost about $900 CAD.
They arrived a week later and I installed the PS shocks at there highest position.
Took it for a ride and WOW! No more bottoming out. LOVE IT!
Following weekend we did the PS fork springs and set the steering head bearings.
WOW AGAIN!
Next Monday, installed a set of Michelin Commander 3s after taking of the
CRAP Dunlops.
I agree with everything but to go back to stock exhaust? Gross
You make up for your lack of stature with an extremely long post, well done!
The new one looks like the starship Enterprise with that head light. All wheel not much tire Old school definitely...
I’m not sure you know what the star ship enterprise looks like.
I like the older design. I have a 2008. The M8 107 motor is a beast, my girl has one in her Softail Slim
Hate that Headlight ?
I didn't ride the old model but i have the new model and it is incredible. My old bike is a sportster custom 883.
Thanks for watching! I really enjoyed the 2018, and have since reviewed a 114. Absolutely love that bike!
@@TheTwoWheeledTeacher hi, could you please send me the link for your review of the 114
Here you go! ruclips.net/video/RsAwWLcTYJY/видео.html
@@TheTwoWheeledTeacher thanks man
I've grown up loving the Fatboys, and I didn't like the new one at first but it's definitely grown on me.
Ted
The New generation looks pretty ugly. The old and real one is a legend.
I heard the 107 and 114 engine's are not good reliable engine's.
Heard the 96 and 103 twin cam engine's are more reliable.
You 'le right Peter old schooo look better end good design
What a question? Evolution ever
Old school just bought the 2011 same color cool blue pearl and I love it looks great rides like a dream very nice very happy with the bike!!
New Fatboy is Hell of a Beast with that Headlight, M8 engine & the Fat tyre, it’s awesome 👍👍👍👍👍
Love mine!!
Funny those are all the reasons I don't like it. haha
I'll take skinnier tires, a better sounding engine and a round headlight.
I guess I'm old school. I don't need a "fast" Harley.
Look like jap bikes, but the modern biker look like transvestites so go for it. It’s your world these days
I wanted to write a comment, but there another video that i was going to watch first,
Ill be back.
The "Oxford" looks better. But the M8 engine is a step above the twin cam.
2002 or earlier fatboy is the best in my opinion for looks.
Plus the 1999 to 2002's have Timken crank bearings.
I own a 99 fatboy.....Best styling and sound!!!!
The Blue bike looks 30 years old while the Black bike looks very modern and very sharp. Glad they didn't go with Black wheels.
I prefer the front lamp of the old Fatboy.. My Fatboy is fitted with the Nacelle so it looks bulkier from Head to toe.
Have a 03 Fatboy so I'm partial to old school.
I'll prefer old school any time
Thanks for the review. I currently own a 2018 Fatboy this is my first bike, and I am having a blast.
Ride safe
First bike. How does that work. Surely you have to train on a 125 or thereabouts first ?
Love the old-school Fatboy a lot better Justin opinion everybody likes different stuff
I like old school
Not a fan of the M8, sounds weird but it's to smooth for a Harley and doesn't sound like a Harley at all
I don't classify the 2018 as a fatboy.
Most people ive talked to prefer riding the old Fatboy
Old fat boy was my nickname in college
The fact that we are even having this conversation don’t vote well for the new VRod, I mean Fatboy, my bad , or rather HD’s Bad.
i'm in love with my fatty 1340 :)
Evo! Had one very cool
@@rshunley1 Bro! 3 yr.ago… sadly i sold my Evo.☹️☹️
Why does the new one look smaller?
The old one look more beautiful then the new one
Old school every time
I have the 2010 Fatboy Lo, and I love it. Ironically, I put a freight train cowl and thicker trim ring on it. I just liked the look better. I do wish it had the bigger 107 engine.
Doing same headlight now had some trouble finding right risers but it's all good.
That’s the RUclips game my friend.
Oldstyle any day!
Prefer the looks of the old school model. Like the performance potential of the Milwaukee engine.
I will keep the Sound If i want more power i would change Brands, I am going for the sound 100 % of the Time .Crappy sound & ugly Headlight ?
I prefer the look of the 2011. I would like to know if you have made a comparison between the heritage and the fat boy. I have a 2014 heritage and love it.
New school....Yes i`m a boomer. But Harley must evolve...They did that well in 2018 with the Fatboy. Look at Harley throughout each decade.....There is always progression....and there is always the preowned market if you don`t like it.
It ain't a Fatboy with a bobbed fender.
Technology is there and I would like to take advantage of it
Hi,
These technologies (except the M8 of course) were already in use in 2011 (I own a 2011 Softail Blackline).
Ride safe.
Love it.
I like the new one also!
i love every Fatboy
The new model kill everything, it's pure beauty, defenitly a win for HD
Blue Bike = Sanju Baba's Harley ❤
New one for me.
I have a 2015 fb lo. Plenty of pep in it. I would like to ride the m8.
I love the M8s! But my twin cam still has my heart. Thanks for watching!
In other chapter, great video as always Mason, priceless quality and thank you for coming with all this information
Keep riding safe brothers
I would suggest you rent a new fatboy for the week and ride it like crazy, and form your own opinion
@@scotttracy9333 thanks for your suggestion
