Check out the Video Description to find links to the Oil and Filter and Tools I use in this video. Always remember, to start your bike and let it run for at least 5 minutes before you change the oil. Warm oil drains better, pulls out sediment better, and with "Dry Sump" engines like in our Harley Davidson motorcycles, the oil tends to "sump" down into the engine case over time which will prevent you from draining all the oil from the bike unless you start the bike to pump the oil up into the oil tank before you drain it.
@@ajwinstonator8652 running a bike for that short amount of time actually allows water vapor to form, but it won’t be hot enough to evaporate it. This leaves the water vapor in your engine. Which needless to say, isn’t good. You should never start your bike if you’re not going to run it for at least 15-20 minutes. That way it gets hot enough to evaporate any water vapor that has formed. Not being condescending. Just something every Harley owner should know to help their bike last.
Hiya JW, Thanks for reply, i am really impressed with your presentation. Please let me know the answers on other questions asked. 🙏 Ps: i read most of the quality compliments given to you last night until 3am in the morning, def impressed by you. This is my first RUclips interaction with anyone in my life and that is with you. Really happy.
Called my local Harley dealership to get a 3-hole oil change done on my 2010 Fatboy Lo. They quoted $470 with filter included. Needless to say, checked online videos for doing it myself. Your video was a great help. Thanks.
This was the best video I have seen on the subject. It is amazing how so many videos were unclear or had dogs barking in the background. This guy was articulate and camera work was perfect. He should be a teacher ! Thank you
Agree. Nicely set up he took time to do the back ground in white & stated what many what what what Yes you can use the same oil in all 3 Oil, Xmission & Primary.
April 26, 2024, with this video I saved 50 dollars in maintenance service, and it gave me all the information about caites and filter, that mechanic will never see me again to do maintenance, thank you, you earned your like!
Best fucking video ever. Seriously, I have seen a bunch of videos and people explain this like shit or bad camera angles. Watching this in April of 2024. Perfect, dude!!!
JW , Just bought an 02' Fatboy and plan on doing most all the work and service myself. Your video was done about as professional as any one I've seen on RUclips. Great job young man.
Love the way JW explains things. Takes his time, is detailed, gets out of the way of the camera, cuts to only relevant information/camera shots, knowledgeable. JW, if you're listening... Please make more videos regarding other Fatboy repairs, etc. like rear/front tire change, light bulb change/installation, brakes (front and back - both pad installation and bleeding). Me and my 2002 Fatboy thank you.
David, I greatly appreciate your thoughtful assessment of the video. I will give some serious thought to what you mentioned concerning possible future videos. I can't make any promises, but you've got me thinking.
AWESOME video! Just got a 2000 HD Fatboy the other day and it doesn't have a service manual. I was very impressed by how simple you made the service on the bike seem. Eager to get my fluids and filter and get to work. Keep creating awesome content my friend!
Excellent video! I’m a first time motorcycle/Harley owner. You made this video very easy to follow and understand. I used to change the oil in my own cars…But these new fangled designs makes it nearly impossible to be a backyard mechanic!😂 Thanks again!
This was an exceptional video! I'm picking up a Fatboy today, and this will definitely come in handy. You show and explain everything so well! I'm not the most mechanically inclined guy in the world, but I think even I could do this without too much swearing and throwing of tools!
BEST! video re oil change for Harley I've seen. Thanks mate. No BS sponsor advertising or ranting and raving about your ride the other day...or how much you love your Harley😁😁 , just straight to the point. Thanks again.
Awesome job! It's great seeing this done without a fancy lift or some other device to hold the bike upright. Living in an apartment, I don't have a bike stand so I have to do it just like this.
Thanks for all the info just bought a 2005 Fatboy and will be doing my fluid change in all three holes, will be following your video step by step when I do it next week
Jay , this is the most awesome video for doing this service, that I have ever seen made, very professional !! - I have a 03 Fatboy FLSTF , I have always just helped my old motorhead friend that had 3 Harley's, that just passed away from cancer to this. I think I'm gonna try the (gear oil for my transmission) you sound very intelligent Sir!! - Thank You, so much for this video, I'm going to service mine today!!
Appreciate the video. The Fatboy is my first Harley and I want to take care of it like I did all my rice burners. I do have the manual, but seeing it done allows more info to get it done right.
Even though this video is years old by the time I watched it, I'm new to Harley's well bikes in general thank you. Clear easy to follow instructions. I will be back to your page for future maintenance.
Hey man, thanks for this great "how to-video". Very well done, good lighting, nice camera job and perfectly described. Now I'll go ahead and swap all three oils+filter by myself. Thanks Jay...
I should of watch your video before I changed the oil. I’ve always sent the bike out and figured it was time to do it myself. You made it look so much easier. Thank you.
Excellent. Thanks so much JW. It's a bit too cold and icy here in Scotland to take the bike out for a run to warm it up but I'll be following your instruction in a few days. Thanks again.
This is the first video I found on oil change and I will stick with it, as it seems straight to the point. I bought a fat boy yesterday and want to change all fluids. Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge.
Thanks for the help I'm fairly handy with tractor trailers and cars but I don't have a lot of experience with bikes. Your video was clear and to point. Extremely helpful
Jay, I can't thank you enough! I've been riding an 83 GPz 750 for the last 13 years and as of last Friday have finally been able to fulfill a promise to myself. That would be my 2004 Fat Boy. Your explanation of using 75W/140 instead of engine oil indicated I probably have engine oil in the transmission. I'll be changing all three fluids very soon! Now, when checking oil level, do you check it with bike standing up or on the kick stand? Thanks again for such a clear and easy to follow guide! You are awesome!
Hello there your bike looks good man.i have a 2005 Harley Davidson Fatboy it seems to shut off sometimes at a light or stop after riding it so you seem to be familiar with the Fatboy and I went to replace my engine temp sensor and noticed my bike does not have one I'm I suppose to have one thanks
The best video ever; great explanation, simplicity and kept you own opinion out, just offering suggestions. I will do this in my bike thanks for the encouragement.
Greetings from Dutchess county NY. GREAT VIDEO! It is explained everything in a simple easy to follow manner. I'm heading out to get my oil change supplies for my 16 Fatboy S. So happy not to get overcharged at my local HD dealership for what equates to a simple maintenance procedure. I get that they need to make money but if I can save a dollar and do certain things myself that's what i'll do Thanks again for sharing your knowledge with all of us, it's very much appreciated.
Great video. Jiffy stand dude, jiffy. lol I always take the crank sensor out and get it out of the way when changing the oil filter. A few lads have broken sensors by not removing it.

Dude, you are the man! The plastic bottle oil catch trick when removing the oil filter is gonna be a lifesaver.
That's great to hear you're gonna put that little tip to good use.
So glad I found this. After about 30 years of sport bikes with one plug and now a Fat Boy in the stable, I really needed this. Thanks!
