When you're listening to up to 15 sec of the piece and you're like "I think I could learn some piano and play this"... Then Chopin crushed your future hopes and dreams as cold as the winter wind.

some tips for people learning this... #1: listen to it a *lot* ! this helps with your by ear memory and will aid you in deciphering it. it also helps to try and follow along in the music. #2: map out your practice! set *OBTAINABLE* goals and make a practice schedule- it will help you keep track of your progress and make you stay organized as well. #3: find the hardest and easiest parts. circle them, highlight them, put neon green tape over them and start by learning them, not at the beginning. doing this will decrease your chances of messing them up by ALOT and will give you a little satisfaction. #4: GO SLOW! You're not Lang Lang! chill and slow down, you'll make less wrong notes and bad habits. #5: regularly go over and look for wrong notes. trust me. the last thing you want are wrong notes. #6: OK, so youre able to play through it *somewhat perfectly* to the end, and now it's time to speed it up. start with a comfortable tempo with the metronome and do it 5×. now, speed the metronome up by a couple notches and do it 5×. keep doing this until you are at your desired tempo. !WARNING! THIS MIGHT RESULT IN CARELESS PLAYING, IF YOU FEEL LIKE YOURE JUST FUMBLING THROUGH THE PIECE, STOP AND COME BACK TOMORROW. #7: last but not least, do that scale at the end a thousand times! it would suck if you preform it perfectly and mess up the scale, so don't take any mutherfudgin chances yo!
I have played this piece #1 sure listening to it helps to understand the structure and tempo of this piece, but it doesn't doesn't help you play this at all. So in order to learn this , i wouldn't consider listening very important. Listening to this may give you motivation to learn it tho. And it is fun! #2 This most likely depends on the person. I didn't plan when i practice and how much. I just practiced it when I wanted :D. #3 I've actually never tried this method. I think it's kinda weird practicing little parts around the piece. In my opinion when you play from start to finish you better understand how to play it as a whole. And in both cases, you still have to practice every part (if you want to learn the whole piece), so does the order you learn the parts really matter? #4 Now this is one of the most important things. Play slow, especially when learning hard parts. And even if you can play them, dont go over tempo. This has been one of the biggest problems i've had. #5 Yes, especially when you practice slow. It's important that when you start playing faster, the wrong notes wouldn't stay. The earlier you find the wrong notes, the better. #6 Playing Chopin with metronome? Big no no ! This is not Bach. I agree with speeding up, but not with metronome. I've tried it and it makes the practice very dull. It's more important that you understand the tempo yourself (listen to it if you're not sure how fast is it meant to be played). Romantic music are not meant to play with metronome, since it's really common that there are slight slow downs in tempo. #7 Agreed, failing at the end is really embarrassing :D These are only my opinions.
maginations help, but believe me you can do it.From my experience, besides your talent. Much also depends on your physical abilities and they must be fulfilled. I mean parental support, having a good instrument. free time for long exercises. In my case, leaving school at five in the afternoon, usually a bit tired, I could only exercise for 2 hours a day. So I could catch up a little over the weekend. I also have a small room for my instrument at my disposal. But I don't care about that. You must also have access to a good teacher. I finished my recording, which I posted on my RUclips channel, after about 3 months of exercises with various breaks. It is not masterfully made, but it corresponds to my commitment and dedication that I was able to give. I think that if you like it, you can do it yourself. Greetings David.
Sometimes I feel really good about my piano playing. Then I go listen to this and feel quite mediocre. But I'm completely ok with that because this is absolutely gorgeous.
I'm pretty bad at the piano compared to my friends. But, I'll often listen to them play on the piano on the second floor during lunch/break times, and because I enjoy classical music so much, it's pretty great to have friends so talented at playing it. It's a win-win situation; I get to listen to the beautiful music, and they get to show off their sick skills! Lol.
This piano piece is absolutely beautiful, but don’t overlook Valentina Lisitsa herself! I’ve watched so many videos of this song being played, and I always come back to this one. The freedom, ease, and lightness in her playing is absolutely unmatched. You’re an inspiration, Valentina!
I think what a lot of people who've never played piano don't realize is that besides the amazing dexterity required to play this, it simply takes an enormous amount of hand and forearm strength. Thank you for sharing your splendid performances.

@ Replies you were right, a few months after I made that comment I got the sheet music and starting trying to learn this and yep it really is adding the left hand that makes it crazy
Opus 10 no 9 really looks like through the fire and flames on expert, but for the left hand. And I agree, by playing this etude, even though right hand is noticibly harder then the left, sometimes it is the left that is technically harder, especially when I had to play arpeggios one octave above of the previous really fast third tempos
Valentina's Chopin is truly beautiful. She's having fun playing the Piano and you can tell that from the song. There's not even the slightest hint of tension or nervousness in her playing.
Why are people complaining that a show brought people here, its making it so people know that this wonderful piece exists and can be enjoyed. I'm glad that its bringing people here. So keep on commenting any thing you want and don't let thees elitists bring you down.
What an absolutely masterful performance by Lisitsa! No matter how many times I listen to Chopin's etudes, I continue to be mystified by the beauty of them all. Thank God for Chopin!

have you played chopin waltz in a minor 150 if i'm right it's not to hard it helps with some of the skill needed for this and working on some of Etude Op 10 No.1 2 help you do some of this better all i did was 6bar of each at slow to start with to learn what to play next
“Small-souled men, no matter how agile their fingers, should avoid it.” - James Huneker on Chopin’s Winter Wind. She freaking killed this! She’s absolutely incredible.
I watch this and think about how we have no one left, like the "Masters of Music" anymore (for example: Mozart, Beethoven, or Chopin). The era of the art and mastery of the skill is gone and lost. We have no one left anymore that can come up with genuinely brilliant or classic pieces to match the greats. We are only able to listen to music of a long history and be in awe over its beauty. Truly, music has been without a master for a long time...
Sample Guy stfu you just don't know that many! If you can't become a great composer then don't talk about how you only awe at them because there great composers here to this day just like Chopin you just have to dig and find them shot you don't just see people good as Chopin and Liszt on a daily
Shigatsu wa kimi no uso FTW!! I just love the fact that an anime is introducing me to this beautiful pieces that I would probably never have heard otherwise.
Definitely one of my favorite parts of this recording is that the bass on the bosendorfer is so *thicc* and really shines more than it does in the majority of other recordings
a couple months ago most you guys didn't know chopin or Valentina and now all of a sudden because of your lie in april all i see are "Music experts" criticizing how this song is being played. Perhaps you guys are the ones who don't feel the emotions, this is real life you don't get pretty colors floating when the song is being played. Im glad that this type of music is getting recognition because of an anime, but that doesn't give you the right to pretend like you're some type of expert. close your eyes and just listen.....
The song as played in the anime is literally the most accurate it can get to the source material since the competition in the show is accuracy based. This version is personalized by this artist and is not as accurate to what Frederic Chopin actually wrote. Nontheless a pleasure to listen to.
theInsaneCashew What an anime studio can use a computer to fixed the piece, Omg why did japan had to create an anime of classical music, now we have a bunch of weeabs thinking that they know about classical music :noo:
ill admit, I first came across Chopin through your lie in April and have worked through listening to several of his pieces but I find this so far the most expressive and entrancing (my opinion) and I'm certainly no expert pianist pianist (grade two and previously self taught :")) but I can see that it takes a lot of skill and practice to be able to perform a piece of music with all the expression of this :) ID love to be able to play this some day :3
I have been playing piano (self taught/experience in reading the left hand notes from accordion) for several years but then I kinda plateaued two years ago. But then I watched Your Lie in April and now I am very passionate again and currently learning the 3rd movement of the moonlight sonata (ylia opening song). it is difficult but managable. Winter Wind is my ultimate piano goal alongside 2nd piano concerto (rachmaninoff)
the first I came across Chopin was probably in elementary school but I didn't appreciate classical. then I rediscovered it through watching the pianist, and August Rush and finally your lie in April. I love classical and my favorite is most likely chopin, I love listening to Chopin
first few bars: hey i can play this next few bars: ok a bit more difficult but i could still do it rest of the song: GODS OF STORM AND WIND MAY YOU HAVE MERCY WITH MY SOUL
it is so sad that anime people who came to this video and write comments about 'your lie in April' are being called weeaboos. anime watchers were just so excited to find a beautiful classical piece, and they just wanted to be grateful to the anime that brought them here. does it deserve the word 'weeaboo'?
Ikr, I mean it's just a comment, I understand that it is an overused comment but people are being complete jerks just cus they say something brought them here.
Directly from Lento and Piano to Prestissimo and Fortissimo, I almost had a heart attack the first time I heard this piece. Wonderful interpretation as always from Ms. Lisitsa, incredibly fluid just as Chopin needs to be.
Damn, calm down, i never said i knew piano nor i critisized her. I just said that a lot of people said that she is emotionless, like the character, and being called a machine in something isn't an insult to me... It's more of a praise actually, you're so good that you don't seem human...but that's me.
I love how this video makes me want to learn this piece like right now. Valentina just makes it look cool and easy, maybe it's because Ive also got long fingers and use that same technique, but it feels like lam the one whos playing it, and that makes it look easier (although it is not AT ALL lol)
Think about this: you have to be master of skill to play like this. But image what kind of person you have to be to compose this kind of music, what must be in someones mind to put that into this.
Vedran Andric. . You are right. Yes this piece (from my experience) is very hard to learn. In my opinion motivation is important too. Chopin was icredible talented..Dawid.
Chopin cannot be described as magic. He has developed anything the keyboard has to offer of all time. I was so moved by this piece, it moves me to tears and I don't know why. Maybe I saw the glory of the creator.
I came to this video just so I could see the fight between anime lovers and "piano experts" and people who don't belong to either groups but comment to add to the fray and make the fight worse and the comment section unbearable. I didn't come because of anime or chopin, I came because of the comments to contribute to the war >:) so I guess I belong to the third group
When I click on video, I see Someone in the comment section said : “the effect of practicing 40 hours a day” Me: “but it’s too easy!” 26 seconds later : Chopin crush’s me
One of the first pieces I learnt as a child at the Royal Conservatory of Renaissance. Mr. Arcand taught it to me in a matter of days. Oh, I can remember it like it was just yesterday. Thanks Ms. Lisitsa for the memories!
I love shigatsu wa kimi no uso. It's perhaps one of the best light novel animes I've seen imo. The reason why I love it is probably because I'm such a big piano fan, so perhaps a bit bias. However, what I don't love is how many call this amazing player a "machine" or this piece has no interpretation just based on their knowledge of a single anime. This is a beautiful piece because of her fantastic technicality throughout the song; which should not be undermined by saying it has no interpretation. It does. Lisitsa expresses such immense weight and power in this song, and I believe many who have been in the music arts for a long time as well can agree. tl;dr Shigatsu wa kimi no uso fans: don't trash talk based on just an anime
When you're listening to up to 15 sec of the piece and you're like "I think I could learn some piano and play this"... Then Chopin crushed your future hopes and dreams as cold as the winter wind.

I m gonna learn this piece one day and comeback here.
have you played chopin waltz in a minor 150 if i'm right it's not to hard it helps with some of the skill needed for this
and working on some of Etude Op 10 No.1 2 help you do some of this better all i did was 6bar of each at slow to start with to learn what to play next
Magnificent as ever
The feels you get when you play classical music specially when you close your eyes while playing (tried it). So wonderful
Sample Guy Williams, Zimmer...
Sample Guy then maybe I'll just have to become one! Maybe I won't, but I'll certainly try :)
Yoko kanno
Those fingers flying. And she smiles. And music. And beautiful. I don't even know what I am doing right now. Oh yeah, I'm commenting,,,,,
Iv'e seen &listen to this outstanding piece of the genious chopin many times...bravo for this performance !❤
that C-bass in 0:48 makes me goosebumps..:)
Wow! She's an amazing talent. Does everyone realize just how difficult this piece is to play??
Shigatsu wa kimi no uso FTW!!
I just love the fact that an anime is introducing me to this beautiful pieces that I would probably never have heard otherwise.
watch nodame cantabile and ull be amazed ! xD!!!
me encanta la musica
^^
ikr, its cool
but piano op anyways
same here
Same :P
Definitely one of my favorite parts of this recording is that the bass on the bosendorfer is so *thicc* and really shines more than it does in the majority of other recordings
Again you have opened my battered soul to beauty, thank you from the bottom of my heart.
a couple months ago most you guys didn't know chopin or Valentina and now all of a sudden because of your lie in april all i see are "Music experts" criticizing how this song is being played.
Nontheless a pleasure to listen to.
theInsaneCashew What an anime studio can use a computer to fixed the piece, Omg why did japan had to create an anime of classical music, now we have a bunch of weeabs thinking that they know about classical music :noo:
you're right, but one question... how'd you know about the floating colors in the anime, did you watch it? :) (not making fun but just curious)
paperbaggirl Of course i love anime, but i also love playing the piano, been playing for years. Not sure how is that making fun.
Jonathan H its nice how you protected the piano's identity, idk i thought you might not like the question
ill admit, I first came across Chopin through your lie in April and have worked through listening to several of his pieces but I find this so far the most expressive and entrancing (my opinion) and I'm certainly no expert pianist pianist (grade two and previously self taught :")) but I can see that it takes a lot of skill and practice to be able to perform a piece of music with all the expression of this :) ID love to be able to play this some day :3
Lamo so did I, I listened to this cause of YLIA
Haha same. I've loved this song ever since
I have been playing piano (self taught/experience in reading the left hand notes from accordion) for several years but then I kinda plateaued two years ago. But then I watched Your Lie in April and now I am very passionate again and currently learning the 3rd movement of the moonlight sonata (ylia opening song). it is difficult but managable.
Winter Wind is my ultimate piano goal alongside 2nd piano concerto (rachmaninoff)
same
the first I came across Chopin was probably in elementary school but I didn't appreciate classical. then I rediscovered it through watching the pianist, and August Rush and finally your lie in April. I love classical and my favorite is most likely chopin, I love listening to Chopin
Thank you, you open for me Chopin, before I never listened his etudes
My favorite Chopin Etude, played flawlessly... I'm happy. :)
Valentina Lisitsa You're great Pianist😉 I love you're piano playing!!
This is the most elegant Winter wind ever that I've heard
Her version is the best I have heard
Beautiful
Oh yeah yeah
Oh yeah yeah
Her beautiful hands and fingers and also the movement😍😍😍😍😍
Absolute mastery. Technical problems = zero, freedom & interpretation = 100. Wonderful!
0:29 "TROLOLOLOL! You thought this would be easy, didn't you?"
- Chopin
I came to this after watching the anime, but I also play a lot of Chopin music, so I guess I've picked my next etude :3
Wonderful performance, as always! Bravissimo!
ABSOLUTELY STUNNING ! Thank you, young Lady for bestowing your marvelous talents with us. I am now a fan of yours!
first few bars: hey i can play this
next few bars: ok a bit more difficult but i could still do it
rest of the song: GODS OF STORM AND WIND MAY YOU HAVE MERCY WITH MY SOUL
it is so sad that anime people who came to this video and write comments about 'your lie in April' are being called weeaboos. anime watchers were just so excited to find a beautiful classical piece, and they just wanted to be grateful to the anime that brought them here. does it deserve the word 'weeaboo'?
Ikr, I mean it's just a comment, I understand that it is an overused comment but people are being complete jerks just cus they say something brought them here.
shut up weeaboo chines man
Carlos Montenegro
hes korean lol
shut up, you racist idiot who has no sense of grammar
Carlos Montenegro wth??
If she can do it, anyone can as long as they put forth the effort
Directly from Lento and Piano to Prestissimo and Fortissimo, I almost had a heart attack the first time I heard this piece. Wonderful interpretation as always from Ms. Lisitsa, incredibly fluid just as Chopin needs to be.
i love this
How ironic!! A lot of people say that this girl is very precise and mechanical....almost like a machine......ALMOST LIKE ARIMA GODDAMNIT!!!!! *^*
I AM NOT THE ONLY ONEEEEE
everyone came here after 6 years from uploading just for the anime
That's not what irony is...>_>
Also, the weebs who think they know piano need to stfu. There's plenty of emotion in her performance.
-_-" learn piano and then talk and criticize...
Damn, calm down, i never said i knew piano nor i critisized her. I just said that a lot of people said that she is emotionless, like the character, and being called a machine in something isn't an insult to me... It's more of a praise actually, you're so good that you don't seem human...but that's me.
bluesplus1 The non weeabs need to watch the anime to know what the weeabs are talking about :D
But image what kind of person you have to be to compose this kind of music, what must be in someones mind to put that into this.
and it’s supposed to be a technical study too! :”)
totally. Unique talent
An alien
Vedran Andric. . You are right. Yes this piece (from my experience) is very hard to learn. In my opinion motivation is important too. Chopin was icredible talented..Dawid.
Chopin cannot be described as magic. He has developed anything the keyboard has to offer of all time. I was so moved by this piece, it moves me to tears and I don't know why. Maybe I saw the glory of the creator.
It's a beautiful piece, of course, but this is the best performance of it I've ever heard. Bravo, Valentina. Bravo.
Wow she’s so good like yo
I came to this video just so I could see the fight between anime lovers and "piano experts" and people who don't belong to either groups but comment to add to the fray and make the fight worse and the comment section unbearable. I didn't come because of anime or chopin, I came because of the comments to contribute to the war
>:) so I guess I belong to the third group
hilariously well-written piece of text
Your lie in April for life
+Chang-Min Lee it's an anime, it's really good
its shit
+PanCamyC like ur Wi-Fu?
Trying to learn this piece myself rn, and bruh it hard asf
Charley. Do not give up!
I never get tired of watching this! Stunning performance.
she plays it so good. I listened to a couple of others too, but this one gave me he shivers.
The imagery that I get from this is when Alice falls down the hole into wonderland. Just someone falling in general.
When I click on video, I see Someone in the comment section said : “the effect of practicing 40 hours a day”
Me: “but it’s too easy!”
26 seconds later : Chopin crush’s me
Maxwell, Piano . Totally agree with you. This piece is very hard to learn.
Anime always uses best music. Amazing.
Your Lie in April has dyed every single piece of 'classical' piano and violin music I hear. Lord ;;u;;
somebody in my school played this just two hours ago.
I deeply respect and thank him, because this is such a masterpiece !
I opened the video watched for 30sec, had to stop it in order to find my jaw that I lost somewhere under the table
That sounds a little weird
She have speed with her hands, faster than Clint on revolver :D
A beauty playing beautifully!
Inspirational performance - awesome !!
The epitome of the phrase: "Wait for it.........".
Brett and Eddy's accompanist brought me here
yep its all sophie's fault blame her for being as good as lang lang, ling ling's evil twin
they prefer to call them as "pianist" no "accompanist" it's from their video i think
Arima Kousei be like, "Please, this is just a scale for me."
I... I understood this reference. 6 years after you posted it.
I hope you had a great day today.
One of the first pieces I learnt as a child at the Royal Conservatory of Renaissance. Mr. Arcand taught it to me in a matter of days. Oh, I can remember it like it was just yesterday. Thanks Ms. Lisitsa for the memories!
Magnifico, divino, perfección,
(plays first 6 bars) wrist goes into a coma
I love shigatsu wa kimi no uso. It's perhaps one of the best light novel animes I've seen imo. The reason why I love it is probably because I'm such a big piano fan, so perhaps a bit bias. However, what I don't love is how many call this amazing player a "machine" or this piece has no interpretation just based on their knowledge of a single anime. This is a beautiful piece because of her fantastic technicality throughout the song; which should not be undermined by saying it has no interpretation. It does. Lisitsa expresses such immense weight and power in this song, and I believe many who have been in the music arts for a long time as well can agree.
tl;dr
Shigatsu wa kimi no uso fans: don't trash talk based on just an anime
Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso isn't based on a light novel....
it's based on a manga
"What I want to hear is...*Come back! Come back!*... the Arima Kousei that I looked up to. *Let it ring! Let it ring!*"
nomealow Let it go, Let it go**
What
would you shut up
no.
Shut
THAT WAS MAJESTIC AF
You are my idol
You are the reincarnation of Chopin ♫
(Traduzindo o comentario fixado) BR é nois 😆
literally when the video reached 0:30 my computer froze
Just saw Green Book recently (great movie) and I just had to hear her perform this. Wow. Her diction always resonates
Valentina, your from heaven!
Thank-you for sharing your God given talent.
-Mozart Piano Concerto N° 25 (versión Murray Perahia)
-Beethoven Violin Sonata N°9 "Kreutzer" (versión Kremer/Argerich)
-Beethoven Piano Concerto N° 5 "Emperor" (versión Barenboim)
Einsten Gonzalez chopin op10 no 4
The first bars are there to test that the keyboard works.
it's like chopin made it just to flex on us
