Same here and I’m in my 60’s and now retiring! Good thing I didn’t take their advice - went to college - got a great job with a Fortune 500 company - now retiring. I did however lose all my family and so called “friends” when I made that decision - their loss.
Since a lot of JWs believed WT and quit high school to pioneer, thus never graduating from high school, technically WT was correct.
Homeschooling victim here! Thankfully I rallied. 45, own home and half an acre, kids are in college. Poor mom has her friends.
I would have panic attacks and cry uncontrollably out of fear of Armageddon starting at age 6. Couldn't sleep at night because my mon would always repeat that "the end would come like a thief in the night" so I was afraid to fall asleep. Was a victim of the 2 witness rule and discouraged not to pursue any of my interests. When I was in high school my mom asked me what I wanted to do after I graduated. I was on the floor of my room, drawing with my back to her. I told het I wanted to be an artist, get an MFA and become a museum curator. She angrily replied, "If you become an artist you're just going to end up a bum like your brothers!" That cut me so deep and completely shattered my confidence in my talents. I ended up working in creative positions but never pursued my dream. I eventually went to school for graphic arts, worked as a GA for 8 yrs and HATED it and started to feel that way towards fine arts. I'm 51 and feel like I wasted so much time. This cult is so damaging!
It is a very toxic institution.
When I was a kid I heard that no one shall know the hour or day, so every day I woke up and said well today is Armageddon so it couldn't happen.
You know....I wouldn't be shocked if that teaching was the true main source of my currently hard to overcome insomnia too. I used to have vivid nightmares about armageddon repeatedly when I was a child.
@@GalaxiaStars I had those nightmares all throughout my life even though I left the cult in my 20s. I didn't realize that I still carried some of the WT teachings in my core beliefs and really had to deprogram myself from false and destructive beliefs. It's taken a lot of work and effort at mindfulness, also learning how to be kinder to myself. At 50 I felt like I was starting over, realizing that everything I believed about god and myself was all a lie and with that came a different kind of anxiety but it's all about learning to calm yourself and trusting that everything will work out. I wish you the best and may you find your peace.✌💜
So sorry what you been though. It must have been very hard for you. Your mom is being a mom is not easy to understand her i hope some day you became a parent. We need to forgiven people mistakes people always will make mistakes. We have to carry our own load and make the truth your own.
Part of the millions spent on Hollywood is paying actors, builders, laborers, writers, special effects artist, however, watchtower doesn't pay anyone! Where did the money go?

Same. Although many around me aren’t entirely happy. At least they were able to follow what they wanted. Many have accomplished what they wanted. I’m 50 and although it’s not the end I’m sad that I didn’t study physiotherapy al those years ago.

I'm 47, working on my M.S. in Information Systems. I don't make anywhere near as much money as a grown man should. I live in a basement without a wife or kids. The best I can hope for is to save enough money for the next 20 years or longer that I don't die in the streets. I don't think I'll ever be able to retire. I hope I live to see this cult fall apart, I really do haha.

Funny how if they took the two seconds to use a translator they would see the Greek word they mistranslate to obeisance, it actually means “worship.” But they can’t have people worshipping Jesus now can they.

i'm not a jw but a two second search just led me to see that MOST translations (some do say worship) of the greek word say "The act of bowing, kneeling, prostrating the body, or making some other gesture to betoken submission; or simply the paying of respect. It adequately translates the Hebrew hish·ta·chawahʹ and the Greek pro·sky·neʹo in many cases."♡
@@hashtian2475 the New Testament was written in Greek and not Hebrew. Your comment is confusing to me, but yes, most of them should be translated to “worship” and not obeisance.

They portray Mary as an adult but she was between 13 and 16 years old as most girls were when given in marriage to much older men. Joseph was twice her age.
My family is from the Middle East (Iraq) and you’re absolutely right. My grandmother was 13 when she married and 15 when my mom was born. Her mom was the same so my great grandmother was only 29-30yrs old when she became a grandmother. Women got married so young then.

I love how much they have to unnaturally use the term “obeisance” in their conversations regarding Jesus. So dogmatic they cant even try to use synonyms.
Nothing pisses me off quite like the story about JC disappearing on his parents, and then acting like THEY were the crazy ones, for not knowing where he was. Maybe someone who’s supposed to be all holy and whatnot would respect his ‘earthly’ parents a little more. It’s always made him seem like an arrogant asshole.
And yes, he was! He gaslighted the people around him and he treated women badly! Like: „no he is not your husband (you are a sinner) give me water, but your water is useless, because only I have the real water“ and „I should give the children first and then the little dogs (women) so he was racist too!“ I tried so hard to like and love him as a JW but he makes it very very very difficult! And to his own mother he said: „I dont know you women!“ how disrespectful and arrogant! Yes, maybe he was special and had some kind of power to heal people thru energy of physic maybe he was born from the spine of the woman (female spine can produce dna of sperm) but he felt so above other people he was over the top arrogant!

I remember being told that school wasn't important by some elders because we would be in paradise by the time I graduated high school. That was almost 20 years ago at this point, and my parents are still naively holding onto their hope. It sickens and saddens me all at the same time.

At 23.35 When the Gospels say that this was in fulfilment of what Jehovah spoke through the prophets, it's almost as if the Bible writers are writing and placing Jesus as the Messiah. It's almost as if they are writing him into existence. The writers placed him in Bethlehem, in Egypt, born of a maiden, etc. It's almost as if they had a list to tick off
To be fair - it was prophesied about the Messiah with details a thousand years before Jesus was born. So the Bible itself is accurate. The way man interprets things are not always accurate….

The elder who studied with me said his daughter would never go to school, she did, then her daughter did, and then her daughter and then her daughter and her daughter went to school this year. As a JW, I always thought that the Magi coming and giving Joseph and Mary gifts was a very strange story.
JW's believe that anything related to Astrology is demonic, but they accept gifts from them anyway.
JW's insist that as 'faithful servants of god', Jesus parents would have to have been just as uptight and strict about JW theology as they are, but if that's the case, then they should have told the Magi to go away. But they don't.
This video just makes it weirder, and hard to explain.
I was looking at how the Joseph and Mary actors looked scared, disgusted, confused, and like they just wanted them to leave.
Which only has to happen because JW theology would make them have to express that they don't approve of Astrology and Magic...
But they still take all of the gifts.
I was thinking that the real Joseph and Mary would probably be thrilled that their newborn son was being honored, and they were getting gifts that would help them because they were so poor.
As a STORY, that sounds like a great way to start. But if you are an uptight cult who insists on this story fitting their narrative and it being 100% true, its creepy and makes no sense.
Mary and Joseph look confused and angry, like they are worried they are going to be attacked, instead of rejoicing.
