You don't even need a dongle with that monitor, just plug a Type C cable right from the monitor to the Tab as the monitor supports DisplayPort over Type C with USB PD charging. The monitor has more than enough USB ports (three USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type A ports) built into it to make the dongle redundant, not to mention 3.5mm audio in and out.

Hello. What monitor you uses in this video. As I see, it's 21:9 monitor. And how you setup interface in full ultrawide mode. I thinking about buying 21:9 or 16:9 monitor for using dex. Thanks.
Love the Samsung tablets. I got rid of my monitor and am using my Tab S6 with the keyboard cover as my main device. When I want to game or use Blender, I remote into my PC through Parsec. For everything else, Android on the tablet is enough. It's freaking amazing. I'd love to get the S8 Ultra for the bigger screen, but my S6 still works perfectly and I've gotten used to the smaller screen. I'll update once the S9 Ultra comes around. Perhaps I'll even wait for the S10 Ultra. Though I do find Dex unnecessary, at least in my case. On a bigger monitor it's sweet, but on the smaller one it just takes up more vertical space than simply using the normal Android interface. Most of the time I just need one app open anyway, only needing two when I write. One for writing, and one for reference. And with that use-case it makes more sense to simply use the split-screen function of Android, not Dex, since that gives you slightly more vertical space. But don't get me wrong, Dex is super sweet on external monitors.
Isn't the screen too small to use blender? Unless yout tablet is bigger than I'm thinking. I used 3ds max on a surface pro which worked well but wouldn't want to do a big project like that.

Crazy? The only crazy thing here is the price point. We need DeX (or Ready For or whatever) in cheap devices as well. Motorola had Atrix a decade ago. Lumia devices had Microsoft Continuum half a decade ago. Nothing justifies desktop modes being available only in cutting edge devices, as every mid range phone has enough computing power to run a desktop - if 70$ Raspberry Pi can run full Linux distro, so can $250 phone. It will never become popular as it is now, and if it won't become popular, it won't get any better, with better apps support, etc.
... that's the point of it being on flagship phones. It's a feature you pay for. You realize you can buy older flagship if you can't afford these devices... BTW all the others you mentioned sucked. Motorola atrix needed a dock to do it as well. None of them worked well.
@@jd2161 at some point not so long ago only flagship phones had internet access, or a camera, or a touchscreen. Now all smartphones do. Why not desktop mode? But you don't increase your user base with flagships, you do so by implementing the feature in lower tier devices.

Hey I wanted to ask about docking stations. If you use one - Aren't you worried about overcharging the battery/shortening its life? Since it's charging constantly. Or about connecting your phone to an external monitor (on daily basis). I found no workaround for this issue saldy and want to use an external monitor that has OLED touchscreen. Couldn't find anything that had a battery (monitors with batteries), OLED and a price that is not something bad completely. I was thinking about Magedok 13,3 fullhd OLED touchscreen. Close enough to Asus zenscreen OLED 13,3 (can't get the later in my country for a long time from now still). I have some questions, maybe you can help. 1. Firstly, Does plugging the power source (to the monitor) stop phone battery drainage? Does it even slow it? I watched reviews, but all they say is that plugging the monitor I can just boost the brightness. So I'm worried it would still consume my phone's battery even when I connect my monitor to energy source (using it's charger). 2. Secondly, if instead the phone is ALSO CHARGED when monitor uses its own charger - Is there any way for me to stop charging my phone when it's not needed? Having the phone charging constantly is very destructive for the battery in smartphones (I had one exploding in the past from being charged too often). 3. If it's not possible to stop charging the phone (when monitor is charging with its own charger) - Can I disconnect the charger from monitor and run the monitor using my phone only (with my phone's battery as the only energy source)? Then I could simply drain the battery to the moment where charging is okay once more (and connect monitor to its charger again). 4. Here I'm worried that 4k OLED could have a bigger energy consumption and won't run with my phone without plugging the monitor into its charger, as I'm interested in either their fullhd or 4k option (I use it pretty close to my face and do very detilaed work so even with small screen it still matters to me). To make your task easier - My phone is Samsung Galaxy S20 FE. It has battery 4500 mAh (if this info helps you with anything).
You are using a 5k display, does that mean that you are outputting that resolution? I want to buy this tablet to pair it with my 4k monitor but online a lot of people tell that Dex support only up to 1440p60
I have the Tab S8 Ultra, and a nice samsung monitor but its not a smart tv for the dual screen like youre using. But youre using an HDMI, Mine will not work on hdmi for dex and android, its just screen mirrors. how do you do it?!
the only problem about this set up is that I can't use the speaker, keyboard and mouse from the monitor. Is this because it is only smart view and not casting?
need to delete and re-pair the bluetooth mouse each time you turn it off, if not, the table recognize the bluetooth mouse as keyboard, no cursor will be display
I could easily connect my S8 ultra to a regular PC monitor using an HDMI adapter to USBc, but what it is super annoying is that I couldn't use the monitor as a real extension of the tablet, in such a way I could move apps between monitors and multi tasking...that is a big L for me
Can I download software that won't download onto DEX by downloading it to an SD drive, then insert it into the Ultra and use it on DEX? If not can you refer me to a site that can answer this question?
Being an IOS guy and using the iPad - Dex is making me so jealous. iPad OS is trash next to it. Apple could literally do all of it but they just don’t want to cannibalise their own Macbook sales
Yeah, lame, right? For me there are only few things why I chose iPad over Galaxy Tab: 1-Apps, cant beat the wide array and quality, this was #1 for me. 2-Display aspect ratio, cant stand 16:9 or wider on mobile devices, 3:2 should be minimum, so 4:3 is great for me. 3-Security/OS updates, needless to say, Samsung is going into this direction slowly, but, hopefully, steadily. 4-Speedy hardware, cant beat their A-series and M1 chips in tablets.
@@rrreger i agree 100 percent with you. The iPad and Apple OS Ecosystem is just amazing. I use the 10.5 inch iPad pro and that thing is still more than capable enough for everything i do with it. I also use a MacBook Air with the M1 Chip - never seen a Laptop like this before. Unbelievable.

You are saying you don't like an aspect ratio that you see daily on everything? Weird 3. Security and updates... how long do you keep your devices? You realize androids don't just stop working after updates stop right? is 4 to 5 years not enough? When does it end? Apple people like to use this outdated response even though you likely have one of the latest iPhone and upgrade regularly. 4. Speed. Yes the m1 chip is the fastest but what are you doing with it? You can only play mobile games on iPad and unless you're editing 4k videos what are you using that power for?
@@jd2161 You missed my point entirely, no other way to explain your defensive picking of every reason that I named that was important TO ME. I dont care for your reasoning nor anyones else, I made my choice, your post is irrelevant in this context. But, for the stubborn of you, heres the deeper dive, again, FOR ME and MY use cases this plays out perfectly: 1.Lots of apps that I need or want are mostly available on iOS exclusively, theres simply neither Android port for them nor viable, quality alternatives available for Android. Zero foxtrots given about MAC or PC app availability, if I wanted Windows or MAC apps only, I wouldnt buy an iPad in the first place. 2.Weird is fact that you are incapable of accepting that there are people who dont stare 24/7 into 16:9 "wanabe-cinema" displays. 16:9 is for movie/media consumption only, nothing else. Yeah, yeah, buy extra wide monitor and you can place two A4 pages side by side in Office. Couldnt care less, neither many other people, nor should people be forced into buying extra monitor just because 16:9 on their laptops arent cutting it. I wonder why 16:10 is making a comeback and 3:2 is getting more popular as well ;)? (Hint - that was rhetorical question, no need to jump in for an answer trying to debunk MY own personal choices and preferences that happen to align with so many other peoples needs/wants). 3. I tend to pay attention to both my spendings as well as cutting on needless purchases unlike so many other people, so I want/need my things to last. I also enjoy nice, high quality things with great display quality and good useability-comfort. Hence I tend to buy things that will last a long while, instead of replacing goods every year or two, its so wrong to do so, just pure greediness and shalowness for the most part, its called consumerism. Thus, software updates and security patches are important to me for a smooth sailing down the road, smooth and as secure as possible while staying in the loop in regards to new features being added to iOS on regular basis. And it looks like its getting more and more important to other people as well, combined with bigger awareness about depletion of natural resources. 4. Re-read Smorfar's post to which I replied initially, theres your answer, to which I replied that I agree. Plus, in 5 years time, when it might be the time for me to upgrade from my current iPad, its still going to be running strong thanks to, at this moment, overpowered chip inside of it.
@@rrreger you still never named these exclusive apps... Sorry to tell you that most screens are 16:10 so you're the minority. That also means everything would need to be reoptimized. I buy high end products that last as well. I still have my note 8 and s7 edge. Both work fine. I also know I won't have this same phone or tablet in the next 5 years because Samsung has great trade ins so why would I want to keep an old device unless for backup? My guess is you're typing this on a new iPhone meaning you upgrade atleast once within 3 to 4 years but your worried about having 10 yrs support. The point was everything you can likely be done on android.

@@lilseal7524 you may have to enable Dex in the settings of your phone. Go to the settings app and search for Dex and make sure it's enable and that it turns on when a screen is connected. There's also a quick menu button for it in the drop down screen that you may have to add.
Love this!
THanks Danny!
I see this video and think how crazy it is some people just buy apple for imessage and avoid being bullied. This setup was epic with the phone, now with the S8 tab Ultra is just nuts

Thank you!
You don't even need a dongle with that monitor, just plug a Type C cable right from the monitor to the Tab as the monitor supports DisplayPort over Type C with USB PD charging. The monitor has more than enough USB ports (three USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type A ports) built into it to make the dongle redundant, not to mention 3.5mm audio in and out.
how do I view in extended display instead of mirror?
Samsung DeX is definitely an advantage on something even the iPad can't even touch. The only problem is developers doesn't optimized apps for Android devices. If they optimize for galaxy tabs devices, non can beat the productivity of DeX anymore!!
The best usecase of DEX is linux emulation on a large screen! It's like the phone becomes a PC.
Dex on Windows where you can access your whole tablet or phone inside your laptop!
Yeah and virtualization is coming in Android 12. Potentially a Windows PC on your pocket.
I thought Linux on DeX was dead? How can you get that via a VM rather than through a Remote Desktop?
@@andyH_England LoD is not the only way to emulate Linux. Let's say LoD was a ready made one tap solution.
But there are more ways like using Andronix step by step guide or if you are knowledgeable in this area, you can install your favorite Arm Linux Distro in Termux and view the GUI using VNCViewer. @@DeepteshLovesTECH Thanks!
@@DeepteshLovesTECH sounds a bit too complicated to me. I wish LoD would come back. I mean Windows on Arm on Dex would be killer, but I guess it would take Apple to bring MacOS to iPad for Samsung to bring Windows on Arm to their Android tablets....

Thanks Omar! I mean it's overkill but it's fun creating cool setups like this

Also you can set your mouse to be able to pass from the monitor to the tablet screen and chososing where is your tablet to your monitor making it work very easily. in term of monitor I use the dell 34" ultra wide 2k 144 Hz and the HDR content does work on it as long as your usb hub is a thunderbolth 3 at least.
It does work very nicely also I'll recommand to have for your mouse/keyborad/microphone etc to have them connected to a switch that allow you to change from your personal computer/gaming pc to your other device in my case the hub that connect to my tablet. it's very convinient and does work very well.
Thanks for the vid! Wish hub do you recommend or use? Thanks in advance
The other reason why samsung was not blessed with a powerful chip like m1 coz with those dynamic features desktop pc n laptops could look like old tech stack 😉 in the past but yet still usable at the time

if you run your phone in desktop mode [or dex mode for samsung users] and you own or buy an old wacom tablet.. intuos 3 or higher or bamboo you can start drawing painting designing.
those old tablets work in desktop mode (because then the aspect ratio of the pentablet and the desktop are the same).
penpressure works and using apps like medibang, infinite painter or even krita (full pc version) for android you can start being an artist without forking out big money for a computer/laptop.
with a lapdock you can even do it on the go ...

PLEASE HELP. I connected my ultra to a Samsung gaming monitor but the picture is not edge to edge. It's like when you mirror your screen
@@subspaceanomaly It’s just a very casual hobby for me, and for that the screen is big enough. But yeah, if I was doing anything serious with Blender, I’d want a bigger screen

I never said that previous solutions were perfect. DeX also kinda sucks. There is no incentive to make it good (RIP Linux in DeX) without significant user base. But you don't increase your user base with flagships, you do so by implementing the feature in lower tier devices.
@@sp0el flagship phones sell more than the others. I don't understand the problem when you can buy an old flagship and you also said dex kinda sucks. What are you asking for? The kitchen sink for free? Just buy a better phone
@@jd2161 according to GSMArena 7 out of 10 best selling phones in 2021 were Apple models. Remaining three are: Samsung A12 and two Xiaomi Redmi 9 models. So yeah, Apple sales lots of flagships, but they pretty much only have flagships in their portfolio. Others? Not so much.
I want a positive change in the stale market. Products improve and pro features get more affordable over time. Desktop mode is the next logical step for our smartphones - after they took over our pagers, watches, calculators, cameras, organizers, electronic translators, netbooks and so on. It is the future, I'm just salty I don't live in it yet, despite owning Moto G100 with Ready For.
as for cheap device, u can use Dex alternative called Sentio Desktop.

DeX does not output 4K. 1440p is the most, and only if you're display natively supports it, otherwise you'll get 1080p.
@@MatthewMoniz if the device is running One UI 4.0 (Android 12) and Good Lock, the MultiStar module will allow high resolution on any adapter/cable up to the maximum 1440p.
Hey
I wanted to ask about docking stations.
Oneui 5 beta supports 4k 60
I have the Tab S8 Ultra, and a nice samsung monitor but its not a smart tv for the dual screen like youre using. But youre using an HDMI, Mine will not work on hdmi for dex and android, its just screen mirrors. how do you do it?!
the only problem about this set up is that I can't use the speaker, keyboard and mouse from the monitor. Is this because it is only smart view and not casting?
Does this setup work with S8+ tablet?
Also, which is the Dex model?
Yup! Works with S8+
need to delete and re-pair the bluetooth mouse each time you turn it off, if not, the table recognize the bluetooth mouse as keyboard, no cursor will be display
I want to see external graphics support for this stuff

For me there are only few things why I chose iPad over Galaxy Tab:
1-Apps, cant beat the wide array and quality, this was #1 for me.
@@rrreger 1. People say this but never name the wide array of apps. You can get almost every app on android too besides a few exclusives like procreate. Do you draw? Chances are every app you use is on android
2. Movies, TVs, TV shows etc are all 16:10 or 9. No one uses 4:3 except Zack Snyder justice league. You are saying you don't like an aspect ratio that you see daily on everything? Weird
But, for the stubborn of you, heres the deeper dive, again, FOR ME and MY use cases this plays out perfectly:
1.Lots of apps that I need or want are mostly available on iOS exclusively, theres simply neither Android port for them nor viable, quality alternatives available for Android.
How bout the Galaxy S22 Ultra for a setup like this ? Imagine just having to wirelessly connect you phone to you Samsung 4K Smart Monitor and chill with the new Sony earbuds, if you want Noise Cancelling, maybe switch to the Bose headphones. Dex only does 1440p on phones. Not sure on tablets. And only way to get 1440p is if you use their dex station/pad. (+this'll unlock the internal lock system they have that only 5apps can be on the display at once on the phones. Tablets are unlocked normally. Phones are internally locked. No matter wired/wireless or other docks. Only Station/Pad will unlock it.)

@matthew What is the maximum resolution you are getting on the monitor with this Dex setup?
3440 x 1440
DeX tops out at 3440x1440. It can't output any higher unless the device is rooted.
Hi. I'm using dex wired on external monitor. But the screen just mirroring the Dex on the tablet, not extended or different. How to set the Dex only on external monitor, and my tablet with default screen?
