You’re comparisons were pretty accurate in my opinion also, my favorites so far is the Sanjuks V6 and the Alpha N, didn’t like the Knee but I will try swapping the switches like u mentioned. The 309mj is a definite great start as well as the Help me lever. I liked the fujin but it’s a feel you have to get used to. I didn’t gravitate to the Fanta myoungshin and yes the screws strips. Slight correction here: with Korean levers such as the 2019 Myoungshin that have a lower body made for a Korean mount you can actually just rotate the lower body. However, if your stick is compact it may not fit with the rotated lower body. Should have pointed that out in the video, my apologies.

  • @tyisafk
    @tyisafk 2 года назад

    I'm coming from Seimitsu and this video has been helpful, though I'm still on the fence on exactly what stick to get due to mounting. I know JLFs are more popular but one big deciding factor for me was to avoid the "boxy" feel, and I think it's because of the fact that both JLF and Seimitsu use a spring rather than a gromet, and higher tension springs for sanwa just feel awkward and I can't seem to find any for Seimitsu. My issue with the JLF is that the switches are just the buttons rather than the metal prong that sits on top. I like Seimitsu more because the prongs act as a faux square gate, and my quarter circles hardly never go through on JLF because I have to "guess" where the actuation is, and even if I feel the click, it just doesn't work, and I tend to have accidental up inputs with my Seimitsu even though it's way more accurate for me so I probably just need a longer throw, so I think a Korean lever would fit me best. My only gripe is that I have no way of trying one without buying and the fact that if I do like it, probably can't use a traditional mount K Lever on my Fighting Edge so I'd have to get a whole new setup which I can't really afford right now lmao

    • @geminirx7
      @geminirx7  2 года назад +4

    I think I’m going to try a k lever since I don’t like the boxy feel of the jlf or ls-32. I did like the metal prongs for easier switch activation on the ls-32 though.
    I’d like a lever that I can use for 2d anime fighters and 3d games. I don’t want actuation to be too tight, so I’m okay with a little bit of deadzone. I’d still like to be able to find my corners to iad, dp, or ewgf. Should I get the 49s, nhm, cdp, or something else? What lever would you suggest?

      the 309 has a 16mm actuator. The CDP has a 15.3mm actuator so there is more deadzone. If you want to try it out, I would just purchase the actuator by itself since you already have a Crown lever.

    Hi Gemini, I’m thinking of buying the NHM lever based on your and AlexNostalgix’ reviews. I want to optimize some of my dash motions in Tekken (especially instant while running stuff and fast forward dashing to back dashing). It would be my first Korean lever after having played on the Hori Hayabusa, which I felt was super loose (took forever to get back to neutral).
    Do you think the NewHelpMe would be a good option in my case? Should I get a few more higher tension grommets and does that help with a faster neutral?
    Thanks!

    • @geminirx7
      @geminirx7  Год назад +2

      You can instant while running on any lever with enough practice. I do think a NHM is a great option as a general lever and nothing about it would hinder you with your movement or while running moves.
      With regards to grommet tension, play on the grommet that's most comfortable for you. Even on the lightest grommets, you can get 1 frame returns to neutral. You're splitting atoms at that point.

      Sorry I was MIA on this channel for a long time.
      I think the Crown 309 is probably the best modding base because of the variety of actuators in combination with the different switches you can use. Generally though any lever will only be compatible with others parts of the same brand/company and even if they are made by the same brand/company it doesn't mean they are compatible.

      Hey sorry for the late response
      I think the NewHelpMe is really good in this aspect because it has short throw for a K lever & a larger actuator. My personal 2D set up is a NHM DX w/20a grommet & 16.3mm actuator (it only comes with 16.0 & 16.2 now). However, everyone is different. I know some ppl who can't use K levers for 2D because the throw is too long for them. In my case, I only play on Korean levers now. You won't know until you try really.

If you were going to get a whole new lever then the Crown 309 NewHelpMe. The bigger the actuator the bigger the corners. The NewHelpMe has a 16.3mm actuator as well as a 16mm and 16.2. • @geminirx7
      @geminirx7  2 года назад +1

      Samducksa and Crown are the same company. The 301 is generally considered not a good Korean lever. The Crazy DongPal has a smaller actuator (15.3mm) so your corners will be a bit small which is why I didn't recommend it here in this video

    • @CoolDima09
      @CoolDima09 2 года назад

      @@geminirx7 I've heard that the crazy dongpal isn't a good lever but the 301 DX doesn't seem unpopular. It has a nice clear ball top and A3 switches. The only downside is it's quite big for an korean lever and doesn't fit in some cases. Also it has a covered shaft which doesn't look good with the clear bat top. So it's 50 bucks plus 30 bugs for a qr shaft just for the looks.

    • @geminirx7

      @@CoolDima09 The Crazy DongPal not a bad lever per say, it is just directed at people who play Mishimas in Tekken. If you are not a Mishima player then it probably won't suit you. Even if you are a Mishima player, you may dislike it. The 301 was made for Street Fighter, and is generally considered overpriced. If you want a clear bat top, you can get a Crown DX shaft and clear bat top to use for your 309mj or whatever Crown lever you want. Also, you can remove the shaft cover if you want on the 301. Also, one last note: The 301 parts are much less compatible with other crown models. The bobbin and shaft are totally different from 303 and 309 models. It definitely could still matter, these things are very person to person.
      JLF is more binary with a spring (you are pressing this direction/in this direction or not)
      K levers with a grommet are more like flexible. It's more gradual and like increases steadily rather than being on or off when you move the lever around.
      I hope that makes sense

      I don't think it's a bad lever, but I wouldn't recommend it as a first. Not entirely sure where I would put it on the list. Also the body is a bit bigger than more "standard" sized levers like the 309 levers or Alpha levers so if your case doesn't have a lot of clearance (Hori Fighting Edge, Qanba Titan, etc.) then it might not fit.

      Sorry for the late reply, but it's just preference. My understanding is Full Collar were just what got used in the old KR arcades so they've just stuck around as the design. Things are moving towards low collar just because it's easier to fit in a standard arcade stick. If you like the full collar look you can stick to it, if you don't care or prefer low collar then you're not losing anything switching to low collar.

      You have a few options. You could replace Myoung parts with ASI parts which are a bit more pricey. You could put a Knee v1 shaft in, but I'm not sure how pleasant it would be since the Knee V1 shaft is like 7.2mm and the Myoung shaft is 9mm.
      I would try a Fujin shaft (the rev 2 is 7.8 & the rev 3 is 8.4mm) just so the throw isn't dramatically bigger. You would probably need to grab an Alpha actuator as well (15.5mm) but you could also try the 15.3mm that comes with the Alpha N.
      Fujin 8.4 shaft with 15.5mm actuator would give you a little more throw and might be better for your preferences.

    Hey, I have noticed that the NEW Helpme has a 16 actuator. Is it a sound idea putting a 15.5 actuator in instead. What are the benefits if any at all as most players use 15.5 and below?

    • @geminirx7
      @geminirx7  2 года назад +1

      1. Actuator size is preference. It changes your engage and the size of your corners. Some people want big corners, other people want smaller corners. It also changes your dead zone which again is entirely preference.
      2. There is a lot that goes into actuator sizing as switch spacing and throw also affect your actuator. The only 15.5mm actuator ever made for Crown levers was recently discontinued. Your best bet at this point would be getting an Alpha 49s actuator from IST or getting a delrin 15.5mm actuator from BitBang Gaming and then drilling it out to get to fit a Crown shaft.
      3. Overall it would have to be something you try for yourself. I personally have a 15.5mm Kaze actuator from IST (the 15.5 Crown actuator that was discontinued) on one of my levers and I do like it but it's not everyone's preference.
      4. I am also not sure if most pros use 15.5mm and below (although some definitely do) and again because of the different levers and their switch spacing that could lead to totally different results. Having a 15.5mm actuator on a Crown lever (16mm switch spacing, short throw) vs an Alpha 49s (16mm switch spacing, medium throw) vs an Alpha N (15.5mm switch spacing, medium throw) are all very different things because of the switch spacing and throw and how those work together.
      5. The kind of switch you use could also change your ideal actuator size as well

      I have in fact gotten a new helpme lever already based on your vid. (dirrectly from IST) and had a friend make me different size actuators (15.5, 15, 14.5).
      As Im absolutely new to Korean levers so my thought was that a smaller actuator could increase the neutral somewhat as, even though the 16 actuator size feels good, the neutral kinda feels small. I was basing the 15.5 thesis also based on your other vid. which notes the different size actuators for most korean popular players. But as you explained I also wondered about the switch spacing on the new helpme versus the pro player used levers which were fantas and other options.
      All in all the 15.5 with a 35 grommet feels a bit better imo than the 16 even though the difference isnt that big, but a smaller actuator was not that grate.
      Im guessing that ill stick with this setup untill I will get a hand on a 25 grommet, that might be a good combo with a smaller actuator for mishimas.

    Okay ngl I've been in that discord for a grip too and even though you keep saying switches are preference there's a lot of misinformation and bias in your description of some switches. For example people like gersung a3s but not over everything lol they are just the new cheap easy standard. They are just as inconsistent as a2s QC wise, but people who like a2s are more picky because a2 users prefer a stiffer feel while the a3 is a lot lighter and springy. While we're on the matter of a2s... I'm not sure where you're hearing this slander of the a2s but they are highly preferred by a lot of Tekken players specifically, due to those characteristics of diagonals being harder to find and the switches being stiffer(I could get into the specifics of why people actually prefer these characteristics but it's not the point of my comment). Not so much so that they'll pick a2s over the new standard of a3s but it's there. Also benylis sells out all the time from people buying up there stock JUST for the starion switches, no one buys a lever just to get a3s lmao so clearly someone likes them even if you don't know anyone who does. Again not here to hate but just trying to clear the bias in the air like you said it's all about preference so maybe explain WHY some things would be considered "widely regarded as the best" or "widely regarded as the worst" instead of just telling us that people don't like it. My only criticism of the video so far. Great work and beautiful infographic on the breakdowns of different types of levers

    • @geminirx7
      @geminirx7  2 года назад +3

      I appreciate the criticism. I feel like I make my bias known and state what I like and don't like. I also think I did enough work trying to be objective like when I bring up Omron A5s for example by stating I don't like soft switches but they are widely considered good.
      I don't recall me ever saying Gersung A3s are the best or that people prefer them over everything, although if you have a timestamp for that I will admit that I said it. I don't think I ever said someone buys a lever for Gersung A3s either, and I am pretty sure I just said they're kind of the standard and generally like because they're found on several different levers. Some of what you said in your comment confused me a bit so if I misread what you said, you're free to clarify that way we are not talking past each other.
      In regards to not explaining why things are best or worst, I didn't want to through too much detail in here about why things are considered the best or worst because I aimed this video at people who know nothing. The target audience of this was people who don't know where to start with Korean levers. Not to mention the video is on the longer side as is, I didn't want to overwhelm people who knew nothing about Korean levers with things they might not understand.
      In regards to A2s: I have had 3 sets of A2s that all had bad QC. I have had dozens of Gersung A3s with no problems. After the video I did have some people approach me saying they think I went too hard on the A2s, but before those three or four people said something, I had only heard anywhere from six to ten of my friends say that they couldn't stand them. Not to mention, if you do like A2s there is not a single reason to use A2s over Omron A5s in my opinion. The A5s have much better QC and are higher quality even if you get A2s with QC. Even the people I know who like A2s don't regard them as their favorite switch. Please don't take this is me saying you're wrong, but I'm just giving you my perspective on why I worded things the way I did or said what I said.

      Same. I want to know how this lever is compared to others.

      Haven't tried the V7. It's a lot to pay for a lever and I currently can't justify spending that kind of money at this moment. I want to try it in the future.
      I will say I am a big fan of the NHM, and I thought the NHM was better for me than the V6. I like the V6 and I think most would prefer the V6 over the NHM, but I don't think the V6 is $60+ better than the NHM
      If I get a chance to try the V7 I will do my best to make a post or reply to this comment.
