Thanks for your helpful review. I just bought a 2012 Nissan Versa. The oil was changed every 4,000 miles and it always had a Nissan Versa oil filter installed by the dealer!
I'm so intrigued by how intricate an oil filter is inside. I'm still driving my 1995 Nissan maxima, just turned 300,000 miles and still driving like a champ. The only thing I've ever had an issue with, was the mass airflow sensor. I'll drive it as long as it is running. Lol
I just bought a new Nissan Rogue and I am glad to know that it uses a good quality oil filter. Thank you for all you work providing such valuable information.
I always use the Nissan filter on my Cefiro Wagon (Maxima), oil and filter change every 10,000kms. My VQ25 engine is up to 285,000kms now and still a nice quiet and powerful motor. When I buy the Nissan filter from my local dealer here in NZ the drain plug washer is not included ? so I have to buy them separate. Always use a new copper washer every oil change, so never any leaks. Great video here to show the filter internals, very informative .. Thanks,
Thanks for the cut open. BTW, you CAN use the longer Nissan filter in ANY Nissan engine. I have a Maxima 2009 and use the longer version(despite book calls for the shorty one reviewed here in this video). Just prefill the filter with oil as much as you can before installing on the engine (I know it sits horizontal you still can soak the filter with oil with no major spilling).
Thanks, I bought a dozen of these filters when I bought my 15 rouge, but the Crush washer was not included, I guess they started adding it to each filter more recently.👍
Thanks for the interesting and informative videos on oil filters. I'm going to be getting a new Nissan 370Z soon and so I was interested in seeing about the quality of the stock filter. I'm going to research your other filter comparisons for the best filter for that car. I appreciate the time and effort you've put into these videos.
Thank you for clarifying the Nissan oil filter. I bought one off of eBay last year and was disappointed at how fast i had to change... But now that you've explained the "3 to 6" rule(?), now i understand. I usually change my oil filter in my 5th gen Maxima every other oil change. Because of my high mileage (260xxx+), i don't wait for that 3-5000mile. I change my oil 2-3000mile.... Trying to keep my engine as clean as possible on the inside. But thanks again. I just may buy 2 or 3 next time 👍
I have an 03 Nissan Altima 3.5 at 153,000 miles. A lot of Nissan owners seem to complain about a rattling noise they hear, most likely the timing chain on cold starts. I have the same issue, it never does it when the car has been driven and I start it again. A lot of Nissan forums people who went with a better oil filter the noise went away. I'm wondering if the better oil filter now fixed a dry start so the rattling goes away. I'm not a mechanic 😅. But I was looking at this or going with the Royal Purple filter to see if I can get this rattling noise to go away! Thanks for the great reviews! New sub.⚡👍⚡
Looks like a well built filter. OCI for my Altima is only 6000km, so I'm considering switching from Fram Ultra to these. If if I can find them cheap enough, that is. The Fram Ultra is already pretty cheap.
Not liking the stamped spring at all. The silicone anti drainback valve is a waste if it's not compressed by a coil spring. Now I know why my oil light blinks on cold starts after 1500 miles with these. I will be seeking a higher quality filter. Just bought one the other day and they areade by a Mexican company called "Gonher". I would expect my Nissan OEM filter to be made in Japan or USA.
A friend bought a Nissan pickup new and put about 30,000 miles on and never changed the distributor cap & rotor button. I checked it and was quite oxidized, he went next day and bought new oem Nissan cap ,& button.
Thanks for the informative videos. Nice to see the Nissan filters are well made. Thanks on Subaru brand review, I will not use them anymore, personally don't trust the cardboard end caps.
Awesome! I think I saw you're in the northeast. Stay safe in this weather. Random, but would you accept new filters mailed to you to do reviews on? I have a few different brands of filters for my Honda 2.4 that I wouldn't mind dedicating
I really like the videos that y do really like the Nissan oil filter one I bought a new one in 2021 and use Nissan filters want to no how they compare to others .Ty
On the synthetic material filtering better than non synthetic doesn't always apply. Good example is the Wix Filter, vs the Wix XP. The regular Wix filter can filter down to 25 microns where as the XP is 30 I believe.
Really enjoy your videos. How you take time to educate and address the public on products and it's quality and being transparent. Have you tested the 2014 Kia Optima 2.4 liter filter?
I just bought my first Nissan oil filter from the dealership and it didn't come with the copper washer. They did sell me 20 washers in two packages for $11.00.
Is the manufacturer of Nissan's oil filter a company called Full Filter? The one I have visually looks identical to the Nissan filter, but is a Full Filter branded filter. Thank you
Nice video i never used nissan filter i use mobile 1 performance but probably will use it next i have s 06 sentra 65k miles i change my oil onced a year due i onky use 1k mile a year
The 8 holes in the Mobile 1 filter are a little smaller then the ones in the Nissan filter for my Versa. Plus The Nissan filter is the same price as The Mobile 1 bought at Walmart.
You need to consider how long you want to go without changing oil, oil type, usage, geography, vehicle life expectancy, etc... Are you a collector, someone who wants 500k miles, towing, don't want to change oil, selling at 100k, etc....? Reading different machinist articles I've been led to believe they polish out components on average to 23 microns. So anything bigger wouldn't obviously be ideal. On the other end some articles have indicated particles less than 20 microns and 10 microns cause substantially more wear than larger particles. The articles never specified if that was because larger particles get filtered out better. So the goal should be removal of all particles without creating restrictions in flow. Secondary goals would be cost, interval changes, life expectancy etc... While I would love to point out all the many variables I don't have time. Know this though. I have a 2000 Nissan Sentra that I just replaced the rings, timing chain, exhaust valves and springs. That model engine is known to go 300k but a mechanic didn't put and exhaust bolt back and my valves melted 🤦♂️from exhaust leaking back onto the head. One of many reasons I do my own work typically. With Nissan filters & 3k conventional that engine was spotless at 220k except a dip in the head where a small bit of carbon that interfered with nothing built up just because it was a low spot and carbon could settle there. Very small.... Synthetic is cleaner and has less byproducts and maintains viscosity longer and a synthetic filter is certainly great, but not all particulate or chemical byproducts get filtered out as well as not all particulate is magnetic for people with magnetic filters attached. Increasing oil or filter quality should be for towing, heat & dust regions, increasing engine longevity with still short interval changes, or increasing change intervals knowing the engine will still wear and die, etc... Now clearly not all filters are made equal but Nissan's value brand filter left my engine in great shape. I looked at almost all my bearings, etc... The cylinders still had texture. I am at 220k for the rebuild. What I am saying is, unless you are concerned stock is cheaply made or you have extreme stresses such as towing, longer oil intervals, hot or dusty regions, want to try and have a 500k engine, etc... then as long as it is a halfway decent filter then your engine has a good likelyhood of wearing slowly. Anything more is just an extra assurance or tackling specific needs. I will go synthetic to prevent oil loss as ring wear and cylinder oil can burn off(not an issue right now), castrol gtx is design to cling(great for short trips), it creates less byproducts(I still flush low mileage 5k & not 7k for anything that cant get filtered) , and I can change less frequently (I do less than 3k on that car a year sometimes so I want an oil that can sit for a year). Synthetic oil initially got a bad reputation as it was hard on seals. When they fixed that it was so good at cleaning that it cleaned carbon deposits out in old engines that had eaten gaskets and become the gaskets so synthetic got blamed again. This is why switching to semi or full synthetic has been frowned on as a risk. A 30yr mechanic friend advised I could go to full synthetic at 190k when I told him I changed oil EVERY 3k. When I opened the engine I realized he was right as it was almost flawless so please understand you may be able to transition but if there is any carbon build up in an older engine keeping parts sealed or functioning then you risk the status quo. This is why you should flush or drain and fill the transmission every 30k traditional or 60k for extended/life fluid. All oil wears despite life of vehicle claims (neighbor's Mazda life in fine print 120k meaning they arent expecting the car to go longer so theyre ok with a tranny being neglected and even conventional oil transmissions cam go to 150k to 250k with neglect if engineered well.) waiting to change it later could free up gunk that wore internal components and now holds them together. I have mechanic friends that believe 105k is the magic number. Past that they make you sign a waiver for fluid changes. You can leave the old oil in but eventually the oil properties will degrade and flushing or a drain and fill will be needed for that reason if not many others. It is a butt move not to maintain it of you resell at 100k to 150k because people who can only afford used get slammed with a transmission bill they also can't afford. If you want to have the car for a long tine then you'll have expensive repairs later. So in short, dont stress your filter. Research the quality of the brand you want to switch to if you want to do a little better than stock and recognize there is a risk, very low mind you, that your after market model fikter may not be as good as the average for that brand or it might not be designed as closely to manufacturer specs as ideal for the car. Stay stock or research and use a reputable brand. At the end of the day you have to just trust they are selling a funcrional product if no other blatant warning signs like bad glue work, plastic parts, etc...
I am using mobil 1 in my maxima and mobil 1 filter but I do very low mileage a year I am gonna go in next month do oil change i havent even put 3000 miles on safe enough do oil change once a year i am not using once year mobil 1. Just regular mobil 1
These new Nissan filters seem to be very well built. Thanks for your great videos!
Thank you, Apollo. (Great character!)
Thanks for your helpful review. I just bought a 2012 Nissan Versa. The oil was changed every 4,000 miles and it always had a Nissan Versa oil filter installed by the dealer!
Love the dedication to the humble oil filter.

I love 4th Maxima's. I'm at 180k. Keep her going!
Do those have a timing chain or timing belt?
Sergio S. Huerta if you're asking about the 95 Nissan maxima yes it has a timing chain.
I just bought a new Nissan Rogue and I am glad to know that it uses a good quality oil filter. Thank you for all you work providing such valuable information.
Thank you and enjoy your Rogue!

I always use genuine oil filters in my Nissan tidal. Car drives very smooth. Very much like your video

I get them at the dealer. Sometimes they give me a new crush washer and sometimes not. Depends on who's at the counter.
My filter didn't come with one either. But they did sell me 20 washers in two 10 piece packages for $11. 00.
Thanks for the interesting and informative videos on oil filters. I'm going to be getting a new Nissan 370Z soon and so I was interested in seeing about the quality of the stock filter. Look at Royal Purple I believe all their filters are Made in USA
The coil spring is over-rated. The leaf spring does it's job, it's as simple as that.
Can the coil spring ever dislodge?
@@Direct.injection212 Very unlikely. Everything in a filter is fitted tightly.
A friend bought a Nissan pickup new and put about 30,000

Bought a 2022 pro4x and 1st oil change is coming up. Could really use this filter!
Thanks for the informative videos. Nice to see the Nissan filters are well made. Thanks on Subaru brand review, I will not use them anymore, personally don't trust the cardboard end caps.
I wasn't a fan as well.
Thanks for another great tear down. Keeping my eyes peeled for a Honda oem review.
Interestingly enough, I have a Honda motorcycle filter. I may cut that open shortly. Cheers.

Thank you for explaining and going through!! Awesome video
The gasket of Purolator Boss is made out of ethylene acrylic, which is even better than silicone. Another great video. Keep it up.
Thank you.
Why does a Nissan Murano have such a small oil filter
If you do a Toyota oil filter, please do a made in Japan vs made in Thailand vs made in USA.
I just bought a new nissan, and the filter to a frontier is about twice as heavy as a wix xp. Yes i pre-filled new, dumped old.
Quick question, how do I know which Nissan OEM filter to use? My owners manual is all in Japanese!
Try Amazon. e.g. 2010 Nissan Maxima Oil Filter
Thanks for the video.
What year is your Maxima?
What oil and filter you use for it?
I have 2 Nissans, thanks for the review!
Your videos help a lot! thank you for uploading helpful videos !
Glad to help.
I would like to know. What’s the meaning behind all the numbers and letters on the filter?
Also could you start showing all the markings on the cans?
Keep up the good work!
Sure. Thank you.
Please do a review on a Genuine Nissan made in Japan filter.
Is the manufacturer of Nissan's oil filter a company called Full Filter? The one I have visually looks identical to the Nissan filter, but is a Full Filter branded filter. Thank you
I only use oem. If it's good enough for Nissan out the factory it's good enough for me
Can you use Nissan Oil filter in Renault car as I know they are the same company and so they may be sharing some spare parts?
What would you run on a SR20det 1995 S14a?

@@irongoose3865 which old brand would you recommend mobile 1 or Castrol
Due to my experience just go to AMC Filters (made in Japan) or AC Filters USA
Others are all is not good
Great video thanks so much
I am using them on my Infiniti q 50 hybrid, and Nissan Murano
Review suggestions: Honda OEM, and Pennzoil HE. Hope your ad revenue is paying for the filters, and then some.
Can you use synthetic oil with this filter or just old fashion dino?
I'd probably use a blend. Some conventional motor oils are good up to 5k miles.
I asked the dealer's service department and they said all new Nissan Rogue use full synthetic 0W-20 and this is the filter they use.
I do Mobil 1, 5w30.
Just bought some filters at the dealer no washer :( i bought a different model tho
Put this in your Nissan and it will be the only part that doesn't break like everything else does.
lol
Wow, I always have to get a new gasket for the pan plug.
