This is kinda what I do. I make all my song in the first 4-8 bars and I mute and unmute playing them against each other while looping. Now, I really haven't worked with blocks in years because there were certain workflow annoyances I had. I original worked with Studio Vision Pro in the 90s and blocks kinda copies how their final mixes worked, You'd make one section "block", duplicate it, each would get assigned a letter. You'd type out the arrangement "aa, bb, c , a ,bb, a ,c", it would just appear almost finished in seconds and then you could just you'd mute/unmute.
Using blocks is really useful to get a bedrock arrangement down. A small issue is you can’t copy a block in its entirety to another empty block. You have to open it select all, copy and then go to the new block and paste. Bit clunky for workflow. Why can’t it do a straight up copy/paste like player patterns. Useful vid Adam
Thanks Adam, always a pleasure to watch your videos, would love to see some more of your 2 hour "create from scratch" videos, perhaps using Cubase as well(with Reason as a plugin of course) thanks again.
Nowadays I tend to mix into a simple limiter when I'm working on a tune (just as a safety net, not to boost the signal), and then I use a combination of an Analog Heat set to clean boost for some gentle saturation along with some Fabfilter plug-ins (and maybe a very, very little bit of Soothe) to finish things up.
Adam definitely has a skill in the way He speaks, and explains things, and good advice always stem out audio. Nothing more annoying the losing a sound from a plugin you dont have anymore or from a sample that's been lost.
I wish there was a way to use Reason to compose to timecode & video. Reason is severely limited in this way, especially now rewire is no more. This video is just 'how to write a library track' and has little to do with actual composing for film & tv.
FINALLY!! A person actively using Blocks and showing its benefits! It’s such an underestimated and underused tool. Great tutorial, overall, thank you! 👌🏾
still the best showcase is the "JB - Bajo Caida" demo song as it says "...A dubstep track that shows clever use of the Blocks mode in Reason’s sequencer. Written and produced by James Bernard.." genius
I don't know, Blocks mode is not particularly useful to me, though I've tried it with a couple of projects. But that Cassette Tape Compression VST you were using, is on my wish list.
That’s fair, I don’t always use blocks but for a certain way of writing I think they’re amazing for arranging ideas quickly. And yeah, Wavesfactory Cassette is excellent!
A bit hard to produce music for TV and Film with Reason when it lacks video capability. (I have been asking for video integration in Reason for ages, in every page and forum).
One suggestion for muting within a block is to cut the block then mute the shorter section. Hope this helps with block arrangements.
I honestly have no idea why I didn’t think of this sooner, absolute top tip. Thank you!
Thank you for making great Reason videos.@@adfielding

Gotta use blocks more often. It's really the way.

A treasure trove of good tips! Thanks, Adam!
What compressor are you using on the master bus? I see you're not using the Reason compresser on the SSL.

where do you get the Korgs in RE format.....i had some before but they only show up as the device module, i.e open vst....i have 12 and plus
Monopoly and Polysix are available from Korg or ReasonStudios, easy to find.
This guy’s been in the game for a long time. He knows what he’s doing. Good tutorial.
That track and video was fresh as a daisy, great job!
Great work Adam!
