- Do your step sequencer drums and piano roll beats sound robotic, mechanical, and like they're stuck in the uncanny valley of "fake drum machine" hell? Ryan is here to help! When this topic came up on a recent livestream, he realized he's never made a video that needed to change!
With just a few clicks and a few taps into a basic mic you can extract the human feel from audio and apply it to your MIDI programming for an instant "achievement unlocked" level up to natural groove!

Beautifully explained and the non drummers are forever grateful.
I learned more in this video than 2 years at an audio engineering college. I wish you were my teacher back then, but glad to see your videos now!
Excellent explanation
This video blew my mind 🤯. Thank you for being the best at what and how teaching us in your amazing tutorials, Ryan 🙌🏻💚🔥
This is a good reminder that even if you have been on the reason platform for years you still dont know everything. This video just blew my mind.
This is my situation too.
Genius feature in Reason that I never knew about. Seriously, I`ve been using Reason since 2005 and I swear, I`m still only scratching the surface.
this is by far one of the best Reason tips. Thank you!
This is an amazing feature for real!
That's witchcraft sir!🔥🔥🔥
Oh the Hoodoo
witchcraft!!!! 🤨🤨🤨🤣🤣🤣🤣
serious witchcraft
This tutorial is a gem!
Absolutely zoombadabba brilliant!!
One of the best features I have yet to use!
Dude..... I play most of my beats with my midi controller, but still, this is going to be massively useful! Just tested it out real fast and it worked perfectly... man! That's going to be damn useful!
Cool! One thing I didn't mention in the video is that if you play beats on a MIDI controller regularly, then you can try skipping the audio to MIDI conversion part and just record a MIDI clip with your own human feel and Get the Groove from that. I usually still prefer the audio process because it handles dynamics differently than my controller playing does but try both!
@@ReasonStudios Thanks, your dedication is much appreciated.
As a boom bap producer, this is EXACTLY the type of tutorials needed.
Yeah the groovemixer always has been a great tool
Gold, pure gold. Thank you Ryan.
Amazing, more stuff like this would be most appreciated, Ryan :)
What sorcery is this?! I have not know about this trick and I genuinely feel this is exactly what I need in my music production. Thank you!
I appreciate your videos a lot Ryan!
My Guy Ryan..!! Always coming through with the game changers!!
This is sooooo much easier than converting a clip to a Rex file first. Also, i didn’t know that it takes velocity into account
Wow that is so awesome! Thank you for sharing this amazing technique!
This is going to be a massive game-changer. Thanks for the tutorial, Ryan!
"Extract Groove From Clip" is an underrated feature every Reason user must know! :D Thanks for highlighting this nifty feature! :D
Fantastic as always Ryan, I’m gonna have some fun with this!
Absolute gold!!! Thanks so much for this! And that track you made is dreamy.
Ryan, you and Reason are heroes!!
Ryan, another great tutorial video - thank you! I knew about extracting grooves before so this wasn’t new to me. But I’d forgotten how powerful the technique can be. And great to see another RS video that showcases the Reason DAW.
These videos constantly reinforce the complete JOY I get from making music in Reason. I’ve been a user since the very beginning - thank you for continuing to feed pure creativity. ❤
This is incredibly helpful. Thanks!
Wow! Ryan.. that's the best yet... again wow!
Holy crap this is so smart! I’ve been just adjusting things with snap off, and changing velocity. What a time saver!
the regroove mixer is an indispensable tool in any of my productions.
great vid again ryan!
This was by far the most exciting tip ever Ryan! Thank you so much for that! I would have never dared to put an audio clip on my MIDI channels..... and now I can't wait to try!
I love your video's when they are about Reason as a DAW. You should try that more often.
Well this is alot better way to add swing then what I was doing, Thanks Ryan proving once again why your the chosen face of Reason. Good job.
Awesome! Now I just got to find the time to experiment with this - thank you! 🙏
As always, Reason got the best tutorials among competitors :)
Just. Wow.
Thanks Ryan.
Fantastic video! I've never fully understood how to use the groove function outside of just adding some swing. Would love to learn even more depth!
You always seem to open new possibilities in the realm of creativity! Thank you Sir!😉
I've been trying to figure out the easiest way to utilize the ReGroove mixer for ages and this tip finally unveiled it for me! Thanks Ryan!
Wow, that is just magic - pulling audio over midi track to get the groove, awesome!
Been using reason since ver. 1 and still to this day it blows my mind. Phenomenal easy to follow video by the way!!👏👏👏
Been using this technique for years. I love all the features Reason has. The Re-Groove Mixer is Must. 👊🎶
Another great Ryan video. Thank you!

Awesome video, Ryan! Keep 'em coming.
Used Reason for 10 years + and it still amazes me. Absolutely love it.
This works in Reason 10 too?
I was aware that regroove exist but God I underrated heavily the impact it could have!
*I'm a user from ver 1 so it'll be 23 years 😂
@@sinewaymusic yes, it's been a feature fora while. Just make sure your original audio file is nice and loud.
@@saumon4060 maximum respect to you fine sir! I'm a pheasant, only starting on Ver 2.5
18 years for Me.
Great tip Ryan - just added to my Reason Tips folder👌
I have been using the Groove Mixer for years to get a feel in my programmed drum tracks but this trick seems golden to me. Definitely gonna try this one when I'm back home. 🙂
THIS is the key to a whole kingdom. Thank you, Ryan!
This is easily one of the most useful and helpful vids that have come out of this channel. I've never delved into the groove functions and was always a little perplexed by how to use them. Granted, I should RTFM more than I have done. I'd definitely like to see the groove functions expanded upon more. One thing that I thought about during this vid is that not all of the musicians would play perfectly in time to that one groove, so even more imperfections need to be programmed in; one groove for each musician that's based on the drummer's groove.
Keep vids like this one coming please Ryan.
This is a wonderful little twitch with a potentially huge impact. I will try this out next time for sure!
Nice job!!! I sooo needed this tutorial right now. Kuddos my friend!
Thank you!! It’s the details that make the difference!! 🔥🔥🔥
Wow! Very cool. I've read the manual and I somehow didn't know about this. Definitely going to implement this. Thx Ryan :)
Super helpful. Also straight and to the point.
I enjoy spending time making my beats swing and groove but it can take awhile, the possibilities here are endless and you make it look so easy
Exactly, this way Ryan displays was built into Reason but they never really did anything such as videos or blogs about this exact process. Glad Ryan did this now.
That was awesome. Thanks for teaching us to use that thing.
Another great video from Ryan the Great.
Incredible !!!!!😳 I will zombadaba all my tracks tonight ! Thanks for it 👍
That was amazing. Not watching any more videos this year!!
been doing this, but cool u could spread the message to a bigger audience to show the greatness of Reason. cheers ryan!
Absolutely the best thing I’ll Lear all year! Thanks!
Wow, a real revelation, especially the audio-to-midi moment. I guess this would work well with bass, too. Great tutorial.
this was one of the best and most amazing tips I've seen on youtube in the last few months. Simply Sensational. Thank you very much 🤘😀👋👋👋
wow, this is amazing! Now I need to check out your groove and analyze the timing to adapt it🙂
This is a game changer for me! Thank you!
I'm a cubase user and used this concept to trace a audio pattern and convert to midi as shown in your guide. It worked perfectly. Thank you very much.
Thanks - finally understand the groove function - well explained and really valuable !!!!
Loved this tutorial. So cool.
Whoa! That's so good. I'm going to grab the groove from stevie wonder's opening drums from superstition. My all-time favourite swung track
Awesome Thanks Ryan.
Fabulous way to bring a more human feel to programmed beats. Wish I'd learned this sooner!
How you Ryan always know what I need to know? 😂🤩 Keep them coming! 💪🏼
I have to try this now. Simply wow.
This is really awesome! I will use the groove mixer really more often now - now that I've learned how to "steal" groove from audio tracks.
I never knew you could put audio into the midi sequencer and it analyzed the velocity dynamics and timing.. so dope
What can I say... it's honestly another one of Reason's wonderful powers! I have traveled to Jupiter with this video. Thank you.
Wow, that's crazy! Never thought of that kind of technique :D
I always had the Groove Mixer in my mind, I just didn't use it, because I didn't know how. I'm hungry for such tutorials. Thank you, Ryan!
That is a sweet technique! Thank you!
Wow……you all just literally unlocked something that I’m going to abuse haha!!! Thanks for the vids, keep em coming, new subscriber here!!
That beat at the end though! Now THAT'S the groove!
Wow!! Definitely going to be trying this out… thanks!! ❤❤
That's a fantastic hint - thank you thank you thank you!
That was simply incredible. Damn.
I love the way things move in the back as you talk
This a great tutorial! In all the years as a Reason user I have never heard about this function before …
Exactly what I needed. 😍😍😍
Wow! Great job in educating the reason community. Thank u thank u thank u!
Oh wow! Thanks great video I shall now be getting my feels from the whole universe 😊
GREAT STUFF BRO.!!!💥💥
So so good and useful and simple. Great educational value as usual.
just recently rediscovered the ReGroove mixer after learning more about classic house and disco drum patterns. I like the swing implementation and the customizability, especially with the "get groove" function as Ryan showed in the video. Def. going to use it a lot more in my future productions. And as always great tutorial from Ryan! keep it up. PS: the "commit to groove" command is also a fantastic way to understand what happened with the MIDI notes.
I'll admit I have been sleeping on the Regroove mixer.
@@HOLLASOUNDS Me too. It's a game-changer.
Amazing tutorial, Ryan! We appreciate you and the Reason Studios Team! 💯
Thank you very much for this useful tutorial.
