Supplements are difficult to categorize as entirely ineffective. At 12:15, you mentioned/showed purchasing a choline product in the form of choline bitartrate. It's worth noting that this particular form is known for its inability to cross the blood-brain barrier, so it's understandable that you didn’t notice a significant difference. However, forms like Alpha-GPC or CDP-choline are worth exploring, as they have been shown to cross the BBB and may produce more noticeable effects. This is just one example, but it’s hard to overlook the significant impact supplements can have, especially when diving into the scientific literature and understanding their mechanisms.
Well said and point taken. It's a huge category (and industry). If you could generalize, though, the truth is *most* supplements are unnecessary/ineffective for *most* people. The ones that do work have limited use cases, and many simply don't have any hard data behind them (at least not yet). Also, you can get almost everything you need, with some exceptions like Vitamin D, from food. It's just that most people aren't eating the right foods.
@BrockMcGoff I saw the tube creatine in the thumbnail. Creatine monohydrate really does have a myriad of benefits, and it's almost impossible to get to saturation levels from food alone. It's also cheap and has decades of research behind it.
I regret spending my money on mattresses from Mattress Firm. As a doctor with chronic low back pain from military service, these mattresses only worsened my condition and began to sag right after the 100-night guarantee expired, leaving me unable to return them. I've found that small, quality mattress companies(especially those that combine springs and latex)offer better spinal support and durability. Many have modular designs that let you replace worn parts instead of buying a brand-new mattress. A latex mattress has been one of the best investments that I've ever made for my health. Latex lasts much longer than memory foam. Make sure to get a base that has a central support beam as well; this will help to prevent sagging. Proper firmness is important as well; I recommend getting one a bit firmer than you like in-store as it will break in, become softer but last you longer before it inevitably breaks down. Most of the time their argument is the same as those of a 15yo who dislikes reading and feels compelled to do so, completely missing the point of reading Moby Dick, a landmark of US literature that will tell you more about your native country than any other book.
I don't think (and never said) I'm an "expert on books". I only shared my personal experience with reading. It doesn't matter how important you think a piece of literature is. Even if that's true, it won't have an impact on someone who doesn't want to read it and doesn't understand it. I still think teaching kids to enjoy reading should be the primary goal in middle/high school. After that, they can read whatever they want.
We're at the library every week, mostly for kids books (and just to hang out). But I've found that they often don't have the book I want, and most of the audiobooks I want to listen to have a really long waitlist on Libby. But I do love our local library, especially now with young kids!

Supplements have there place. And of course results can be measured. They can be a waste of money when you don't know what you are doing. But If you are deficient in Vitamin D, then vitamin D3 with K2 is going to help get you back in a healthy range. This is why doctors prescribe it. But hey Some RUclipsr knows better.
I think that specifically these "magic" supplements mentioned in this video aren't actually supplements but placebos. And while placebos *do* have a measurable (!) effect in about ⅓ of test persons,...well, still no reason to pay outrageous prices for "magic" pills. BrockMcGoff wasn't talking about prescriptions here but about snake oil. E300 is often sold as a supplement, with claims that it heals a common cold. It doesn't. But E300 (or vitamin C, as many people call it) is great for cleaning your pool. And E300 pool cleaner is of course much cheaper per ton than "magic" E300 pills. I fully agree that you need to know what you're doing. No need to discuss that.
@@BrockMcGoff This is the second video were you have pushed the supplements are a waste of money agenda that has come up on my feed. Supplements have their place but don't blame them for the industries greed. Educate yourself. There are people with much greater minds than ours taking them. I am sure you can think of some highly qualified RUclipsrs who do.
Why do you feel the need to defend the supplement industry? @@BrockMcGoff The video is mainly about consumption. Most of it isn't about regretting to have bought something, but regretting to not have bought the more expensive version of the same thing The belief that you have to buy all the books (but you aren't really interested in them) and that you need to buy certain supplements in order to feel good... is kinda a result of social media and our current consumer culture which is a big part of capitalism. Books can get really expensive too, especially scientific literature :) To me, you actually came across a bit 11:55 which is why I left those comments. For many people a -150 difference in plane tickets does matter, most people can't afford an extra 4tb of internal storage for their laptop (especially with apples pricing) let alone think about purchasing a condo. I don't like being so negative in my comments and I didn't think you would read them... I hope you can at least understand my view now :(
I agree there is a slight out of touch feel to some of the video. Just buy the better more expensive thing. For most ppl it’s simply not an option. This is why cheaper options exist - because without them ppl couldn’t have a laptop, camera, or fly etc. if you have the cash but prefer to be sensible and thrifty that’s great, but it’s not most ppls reality - they just can’t upgrade plain And simple. Not saying the video came from a place of snobbery. I think it simply came from this dude not understanding perhaps just how privileged his situation financially is. It happens.
I’d say if you struggle with (or just don’t understand) a book like that in 9th grade, you’re a pretty normal 15 year old. I didn’t enjoy any of the books I had to read in high school, but I’m an avid reader as an adult.

We're at the library every week, mostly for kids books (and just to hang out). But I've found that they often don't have the book I want, and most of the audiobooks I want to listen to have a really long waitlist on Libby.
But I do love our local library, especially now with young kids!
@@BrockMcGoff Ok fair enough. Some libraries have a system where you can place holds on books and you get notified when they're ready to get picked up.
Don’t buy classic books. They are there at the library for free and readily available because no one else is reading them.
Great video !
Streaming services. I end up with more than a dozen at a time because I sign up for trials and forget to cancel.
guilty on the books 🙋🙋🙋🤦
Everyone that can add a pound or two of weight safely should be taking creating for the mental benefits, they are very well documented
8:32 "Charging for water? I get it" Excuse me!!! At least two or three glasses of water should be free to avoid people abusing this ad that is a BASIC human necessity and is paid for by tax payers throughout the world (word exceptions are always that weird exceptions)
But the Ribeye Steak is always a treat.
I'm glad seeing you rocking a medium haircut, it's been a while haha, I know long hair is too much maintenance, but as long as you keep it medium-short, it's all good brother
Thanks! I do love a wavy medium hairstyle. Wish more guys would explore this length (seems like men either go really short or very long).
Light and day haahah. Love it
Make video trending fashion
Well there are books that are popular, intelligent and fun to read. May I recommend the Discworld series by Terry Pratchett.
No you may not.
Shoutout scentsplit for perfume samples!
crime and punishment and zombies 😌
I really regret getting the Bugatti Tourbillon
Jesus christ steakhouses are fucking awful, literally me and my shitty teflon pan that literally has half the coating burned off makes steaks that taste 10x better than any trash I've gotten in a steakhouse.
Pretty sure Spirit went out of business
Brock… how much do you hate Lysander? Be honest.
Don’t say that name around here, you pixie.
You might want to watch again with captions on, because it seems like you've heard things I didn't say.
And yes, I believe greed is what causes people to sell products that don't work, hence why pharma companies have chosen to continue selling phenylephrine - medicine.yale.edu/news-article/phenylephrine-a-common-decongestant-is-ineffective-say-fda-advisors-its-not-alone/
Are you going to defend them too?
I have one of the best noses in the industry
Must be nice
This can be summed up to: get rich and buy the expensive stuff
Yeah, books are so expensive. Not buying supplements is so capitalistic 🧐
@@BrockMcGoff The video is mainly about consumption. Most of it isn't about regretting to have bought something, but regretting to not have bought the more expensive version of the same thing
The belief that you have to buy all the books (but you aren't really interested in them) and that you need to buy certain supplements in order to feel good... is kinda a result of social media and our current consumer culture which is a big part of capitalism.
Books can get really expensive too, especially scientific literature :)
To me, you actually came across a bit 11:55 which is why I left those comments.
It happens.
Man you need to get on a DHT blocking medication if you haven`t for your hair.
Can be prescribed by a Trichologist
I have many problems but hair loss is not one of them.
@BrockMcGoff oh ok
That's the most capitalistic video I've seen in a while
i hate people that recline there seats
if you struggle with to kill a mocking bird, there are bigger issues at play ngl
I’d say if you struggle with (or just don’t understand) a book like that in 9th grade, you’re a pretty normal 15 year old.
I didn’t enjoy any of the books I had to read in high school, but I’m an avid reader as an adult.
