🚴♂️ Age is just a number, right? Ever felt too 'old' to get back into BMX or worried about starting late? Let's debunk that myth. Today, as I ponder on turning 27 (and feeling closer to 30), I share my thoughts about age in the world of BMX. I address Phil's question from our Discord community about diving into BMX at 39 and what tricks to start with. 🛹
Whether you're a veteran rider reminiscing about old times or a newbie navigating the BMX world, there's no age limit to passion and progression. Dive in as I break down the three foundational tricks every BMX rider should know and how to set aside time effectively to practice.

Im 49 , got back into it beginning of the year and wish I hadn't stopped. Know guys well into their 50s and still riding.
Awesome. I just got a Sunday EX Elstrand this year and just have to make time to do this shit again. When I was a kid, freestyle was _it_ for me. Coming back to it and am so glad I found this channel. Cheers to GenX kind.
Started again at about 40. 46 now and loving it! I totally agree- manuals, fakies and hops first! Lack of Confidence and fear of getting hurt slows me down. Progression is slower than I want, but the journey is a blast.
it is so true 😅 I feel the same way. started with 41, now 2 years part of the game and I love it
Getting hurt at an older age is significantly huge. Too much risk. It's not necessarily the "hurt" the "pain", etc etc. it's the fact that there's too much to lose. You have a family, responsibility, work, bills, etc etc, you just can't risk progressing in BMX as an older rider. But I still love to ride for fitness and fun.
46 and loving it
Almost 50, still cant manual for shit, but i have FUN.. and if youre having fun its worth doing it.
56 and I'm glad I got back into riding a few years ago.
I started riding at 43 (I’m 46 now). Never too old!
I turn 54 this next weekend. I just put together my 22” Stolen Spade I bought myself as a birthday present. First BMX bike in about 39 years!
Happy Birthday brother!
42.5 here riding witha broken back too
Sick
I'm 44 years young, I started at 40. My body is not the same as when I was a child. Just put on a helmet and any other protection you have. Remember that an injury at the age of 40 takes much longer to heal and that means time off the bike... At the beginning of this year I sprained my ankle and fractured my foot, it was almost 3 months without the bike between immobilization and physiotherapy, now I've added ankle braces to the equipment I use. The progression may be a little slow but just being at the skatepark having fun and challenging myself is worth it.
I’m 47. Last time I rode a Bmx is 27 years ago. I got a used kink gap last week. I used to ride hard but getting this first before deciding on a better bike. I’d eyeing the we the people Envy! I’m excited!
I started at my 12 and stop at my 17 and started a boxing career...Now that i m finished at my 42 i started again and its best than ever!I have to say only dirt bmx needs strong body to stand the impact ehile landing! But i m a monster!Keep riding!
I'm 44 and just got my first BMX. Found a Kush2 for $120, barely used. Can't wait to get started
36 here and just got back to it after over 15 years and even though I’m not nearly as good as I was when I was in high school, I’m loving every second of it!
54, just restarted 2.5 years ago
Everything I learn is new for me. I ride every day
I wish I felt comfortable back into BMX. I'm 47 now, with 4 open-heart surgeries under my belt now that was related to an unknown health issue when I was younger. But, I just started to watch a lot more BMX these days!! I grew up with shows from Hutch, Woody Itson, Rick Moltenio (I can't spell), RL Osborn and those were the best times!! (Had an 88' chrome RL-20B growing up.)
41 knees are killing me. totally wiped out on my first manual attempt. still on the bonny hop. still not able to do it. keep going.
im 35 this year, & still riding bmx. & im from singapore.
I am 49, still riding.
I'm 37 and I just started again after being a kid lol, and yes I barely have time but when I do I practice my bunny's manuals, 180's and feebles lol, body don't bounce back like it use to but still a blast !
I started at 33. Never rode a bike in my life. Idk why the BMX was my first choice, but it seemed right and i love my two BMXs.
Bmx for life @53
43 and been riding for a year. I know limits and just have a blast.
I just started again at 35. Having a blast relearning old tricks and cruising with the fam on bike rides. Wish I never stopped.
I'm 37 and been doing it since I was 15. It's kept me looking and feeling young.
You can easily make up for the lack of free-time and physical fitness by leveraging your maturity to make practice sessions as efficient as possible, and also protect against injury by wearing the protective gear that kids are too cool for.
I'm 34 now and just got back in to bmx and skateboard and it definitely hurts more for longer now broke my rib jumping a small spine that was just over a month a go and it still hurts now luckily it doesn't hurt enough to stop me getting out there again
So interesting that you said those three tricks for beginner old guys. I just made a video specifying exactly that!
Im 39, Ive been skateboarding forever, I ride a gravel bike and really like it, I want to get a hardtail mountain bike but I feel like I should give bmx a go so I can leaen basic bike control
I started because my kid got into it and she needed a riding partner 😂
Do a review on the GSport Rims the difference in them bird rib and Rollcage love the videos man
Have you had any surgeries is what you ask first then clean slate take your time and hone your craft if yes to surgeries talk to your doctor and know your limits I had my back replaced (ALIF) but still ride carefully.
52 😮 here
35 years old. 5'9". 230lbs and i ride a 20" bmx for fun most days. I can pump 24 mph!!
54, working on airing out at the park. Manuals? Still trying to figure that out?
Ya get some
This video and sorry to be so blunt.. its stupid! Age will always just be a number. I play ice hockey with a 65 year old man, and the guy does not suck. Im 42 and feel 23.. Im a mtb singletrack rider, and I need more jumps. I also skateboard, so my first move ill be learning on my new bmx (which Ive never ridin) will be a crooked, BS or FS I dont care. If its something you truly feel in your bones, dont let shit stop you.. one very go motto.. G.U.T.I Y.O.L.O (get used to it.. you only live once..) fucking get some..do what ever is in your heart.. please dont hold back.. fucking get some
Tricks are over-rated.
I don't know if breaking an ankle or wrist over 40 is best idea
