    I pedaled around on a 1986 Redline Proline 800p running around a 19.75" T.T. I had a xxxl goose neck and a crazy tall handlebar. Back then I was totally clueless about sizing a bike for anyone! Then I got a Redline 720xl with Tange blade forks, and the first set of 401 flight cranks in Idaho Falls. I thought this was a major step in the right direction! I still needed a set of 8" tall bars, and the longest gooseneck I could find. And I made it work! My son has this Redline now, but I still was wanting to find a little bit bigger Frame!! So I bought my first 24" cruiser. I bought a 97 Haro group one si with a 22" T.T. and added an 8" tall set of bars and the same xxxl threadless stem I could find. This was a lot of fun! But it still felt a little on the smaller side, but was a monster by weight of compassion to the 800p. Then I found a Mosh 3 star method, and did all the same things. Then one day I decided to Google xxx lbmx frames, and one thing lead to another. And poof the se racing fast ripper was invented, so I decided to take a little closer look. After seeing the top tube at 23.6" I was like o.m.g. this is the ONE!!! After waiting around 3 months for it to show up. I decided to swing by a different bike shop, and sitting outside was the GT PRO PERFORMER in neon orange 🍊 the owner asked if I wanted to take it for a spin? I said nope, because I will want to buy it... So after the fourth month of waiting for the fast ripper, I pedaled back to the bike shop. This time I was thinking about a test ride! And poof my new gt... The main reason for the big gt, is that it has a laid-back seat post and taller bars! Holy Hannah this was awesome!! Then after looking online at the geometry, and seeing that 23.5" top tube. I was like sold, just take my money please!!! I am 6'5" tall with a 36" inseam. My knuckles drag on the floor! I finally have a few bikes that feel like they actually fit me. I don't need a long stem, but do still like riding a taller set of bars! Awesome video man!!! 😎

    This is exactly why CW made the ZM model. The top tube was 16.5” for the riders stuck between a mini and expert frame. Helped me get off the gate faster and out of the turns. My bike was dialed in for me as I wasn’t as big as the other kids in my age division.

    Pedal thickness is something I noticed not many people take into account. I’m not sure about clipless , but there are a ton of flat pedals out there that vary in thickness quite a bit.

    • @SupercrossBMX.
      @SupercrossBMX.  Год назад

      Pedal thickness is a thing, but so is the thickness of the soles of your shoes… pedal thickness really comes into play to keep you from rolling your pedals, more so than bike sizing, but it is always a consideration when we start to fine tune the ride

    • @lenBrill1971
      @lenBrill1971 7 месяцев назад +1

      Old school VANS are fairly thin honeycomb gum sole shoes. With a sharp set of thin platforms, rolling a peddal is hard to do. And once you plant your foot, you feel like you're clipped in.
      I raced from 1986 - 2000. I'm 53 and still "bear" the shin scars of old school super thick bear traps.

    Nice video Bill. Greetings from 🇬🇧I'm 5ft 10" & had an XXL 450Z but felt a little cramped so I swapped with a friend's XXXL & put 10" bars on it, as I also felt a little hunched over on it. Totally surprised that the extra length & height actually made it easier for me to manual (go figure?) & the tall bars make it easier on my 55 yr old back. No BS this is most perfect bike I've had in over 40 yrs riding BMX, despite it being (on paper) way too big. You really need to experiment with these things 💪

      Glad you liked Carlos! Hope the uk has some great riding going on right now. And a taller bike is setting your back up higher, less pull but more comfort for sure. Again, different people have different needs and different comforts, I am glad you found yours!

    I think they should change the rules. I mean, they should allow the riders to use a size frame of their preference. Same if they want to use "speeds" like "MTB" bikes use. So, you could see races between 20 and 24 or even 26 if they want to.

      @@mariocampos2044 like we said, different sizes for different riders and different styles. Gonna upset the apple cart by going against the old as dirt TT numbers being gospel amongst a certain website.. I have designed 4 frames this past year and a half, was fun watching. Could easily be a half hour and more in depth. Could not imagine a 63mm stem, isn't there an unwritten rule about the front axle being in general alignment with where the bars mount? Anyway, good stuff Bill. 🎉

    • @SupercrossBMX.
      @SupercrossBMX.  Год назад +2

      Could go hours... fine tuning a Bike is a huge thing. And we have people asking for 70mm Stems at times. A certain Elite World Champion ( Current I must add ) is running our 63mm stem on her bike as it set her up the way she wanted in her rider area.

  • @gotmoto
    @gotmoto Год назад

    So what’s deal with some manufacturers randomly listing the rise of the stem in degrees? Most are in mm but some will say 5° or +/-5° etc. I know the +/- is whether it’s mounted conventionally or inverted but not sure why they use degrees instead of mm

    • @SupercrossBMX.
      @SupercrossBMX.  Год назад

      I think some will list degrees as it is one degree for a full run of stems where a 48mm is one measurement up, a 53 another, a 60 another, and it is easy and accurate to list the design dimension.

    Adding a longer stem to make up for a short frame isn't always good. Putting your bars farther out over your wheel changes steering

    • @SupercrossBMX.
      @SupercrossBMX.  Год назад +3

      Correct, proper frame sizing is always best, you always want to go with the longest frame, shortest stem combo... unless you want to speed up the steering a bit, then the longer stem will quicken the steering a bit. Too long of a stem causes flop as you PUSH thru the turns.
