    good info ...always a riddle from crank length to rollout to track conditions ...the best gear is the one that your conditioning and skill allow you to be competitive on ...I talked with Rupe years ago at a national and the thought process reminder is key .. Thanks

    I always just adjusted on the rollout, if I wasn't regular foot, I would just roll the first obstacle later I just learns how to jump regular or goofy foot. back then there weren't as many resources as possible in terms of the things you talked about here. I would like to know if having crank arms to short also causes hip roll. I've always run 180mm crank arms since they always felt natural to me.

    Does small cog size In The back and bigger chainring in the front help with a faster pop out of the gate or is it the opposite

    From a dead stop would 33,12 be easier to start pedaling then 44,16?
    But 33,12 would be pedaling more to keep top speed, smaller gearing easier to pedal better acceleration, higher tooth count means slower more difficult to start pedaling but once up to speed its easier. Confuses me learning about gear ratios. 2 different amounts of teeth
    Yet it's same equal ratio of 2.75.. yet smaller sprocket less chain links
    Ppl suggest that 28, 9 is ideal for what I'm asking for. It has higher top speed the 25,9 . Yet it's easier to dead stop start pedaling then 44,16
    What would suggest? Plz and thank you for haveing patients with me. If I've left you stumped or confused, msg back and ill try to explain what I'm asking differently

      It’s all about exact ratios, and of course tire sizes… and that is why we refer everyone to the gear charts, ( bmxultra.com ) but as a rule of thumb on a 20” pro sized bmx bike it is 2.5 teeth on the front per tooth on the rear, so a 33/12 would be a little bit harder than the 44/16 so it would take more effort to get started, but would end up with a higher top end speed. There is also the issue with chain wrap where the chain is making a tighter bend around the smaller gears and it is harder to pedal as well due to the bend of the chain. Once you get it down, you will be a pro, but the gear charts like the one BMX Ultra has is the ultimate cheat sheet as it helps with the ratios and tire sizes to really help get you dialed in .

    Hey man, love the channel. Just want to make sure I heard you correctly...you said a stock pro size bike will normally come with a 43/16. Did you mean 44/16. I see pro size completes with 44/16 all the time, but have never seen a 43/16. Just wanting to confirm that is what you meant to say. Thanks!!!

    • @SupercrossBMX.
      @SupercrossBMX.  11 месяцев назад +1

      A lot of the complete bikes we checked, pro sized, came with a 43/16. 44/16 used to be the norm, but the BMX race crowd if that is what you are looking at has started to move towards a 43/16. There are still many that come stock with 44/16 and many that are 25/9 or 33/12 , just know what you are getting when you buy it

      That would give you a higher top end speed. But check the gear charts on bmxultra.com to find the exact gear breakdown for your particular wheel and tire size

    I’m much more comfortable on my cruiser 41X17 on 1.75 tires. I’ve noticed the roll out is significantly larger than my 20 inch which I feel like I am spinning without going anywhere. Should my roll outs be the same or as close to the same on each bike

    Please explain. 44, 16 gearing does not have fast acceleration its a tad bit harder to pedal starting from dead stop, but once you get up to speed ots easier to pedal and reach top speed. My question is. Is 33, 12 gearing because it's less teeth. Does this ratio pedal easier from dead stop or easier the 44,16? Each ratio equals 2.75.

    • @jacobjames1171
      @jacobjames1171 11 месяцев назад +2

      You're comparing race gears to street gears. Nobody runs the small stuff on the race track.

  • @flyfly2427
    @flyfly2427 11 месяцев назад +1

    Is there a gear ratio that's easier then 44 16 from dead stop, but not as fast at top speed at 44,16? I'm thinking that 33,12 might be my answer, both equal 2.75, except less teeth equal faster start, but pedal your butt off trying to reach top speed. I'd prefer to lose 44,16 top speed for an easier acceleration start.
    25 , 9 is all instant acceleration, no top end speed you pedal like crazy.
    44,16 from dead stop its hard to start pedaling but once you reach higher speed pedaling is easier.
    Whats a gear ratio, that's in-between these to 2 ratios.thsts a good middle ground ?

    • @christopher9503
      @christopher9503 11 месяцев назад

      Every gear that is easier to start will have a lower top speed. Everything is a tradeoff. If you improve gate start, you lose top speed. If you improve top speed, you have a slower gate start. You can train your gates and you can train to spin, but any changes you make to your gearing will always be relative to what your body is used to right now. Also, 44/16 and 33/12 are the exact same gear ratio at 2.75 so you will notice absolutely zero difference if you switch.

    Im currently running 28 9, but i want to start doing a few race meetings again, i think this ratio will be too stressful on the chain, (had a chain snap 2 years ago and ended up in hospital fir a week with multiple broken bones)....do you think a 30t 11t will eliviate the stress on chain...or still risky ?....otherwise i have to buy new frame as mine will only accommodate 30t sprocket max...any suggestions highly appreciated..thanks

    • @jcbenson01
      @jcbenson01 Год назад

      @erwinenguerra8474 I believe that is caused by cheaper chain rings that aren’t quite perfectly round. You can rotate it to the point the chain is the tightest, loosen all the chain ring bolts some, squeeze the chain while you tighten it down and it may be just enough to help alleviate some of that tight/loose effect.
