  • I tried sitting (standing?...) on a BMX two weeks ago for the first time. I am nearly 35.
Are you too old to try? In this video I will give you 5 tips on how can you approach BMX (skateboards, scooters, roller skates, etc.) when you are a bit more senior than 8-year-olds doing backflips :)

@@UniQue1992 The COVID19 madness started a few months after I bought the first bike. At first that bike was shared with my son and after I realized that I can ride a BMX and my son also liked it, I bought him another bike, a little smaller than mine. It was necessary to stop and stay at home for months, but in September last year we started to go to the skate park in the middle of the week in the morning. Most of the time, the skate park is almost empty, sometimes 4 more riders appear, usually skaters and / or inline skaters. Ride BMX in the pandemic period was therapy for me ... I try to walk at least 3 times a week ... And incredible as it may seem, my son is sometimes more tired than me and asks not to go sometimes. Here are some short videos of me: instagram.com/bmx4.0/

first off, i just wanna say this video was surprisingly engaging. it started off a little wobky but in half a minute or so it found the pocket. really enjoyed it man!
secondly, to preface my next point, i'm 36. ('84 baby) i rode BMX since i was a little kid, but it was a casual thing until i waa about 12, and from the age of 12 to when i turned 17 - when i got driver's license and stopped riding bikes - i only rode dirt jumps that were built in the woods behind my neighborhood in New Jersey. i don't know how i even wound up circling back to BMX, but i know in the back of my mind i needed to stay in shape but i didn't wanna go to the gym. i wanted to do something practical, an exercise that was more of an activity. so i started riding again at 32, and 4 months later broke my collarbone haha. but about 2 yeara after that when i was 35 - 1 year ago - i started up again and honestly, i'm not very good. i'm not practicing hard, but i am practicing. but besides that, like you said, it's just so much fun. i have only one other hobby where i'm able to tune the world out: going to the movies by myself. BMX is now #2. you absolutely nailed it.

Hey man, thanks for this comment. Enjoyed reading it a lot.
It will never be completely the same - as when you were a kid, but it is still so much fun! I am now riding on my inline skates (my childhood's love) and I have even started another youtube channel for the topic. Ended up building a big miniramp in my backyard and now ride at least 3 times a week! :) Kind of inspired myself as well :)

55yrs old learning bmx and bike trials. It’s tough but the key is a good warm-up & stretch beforehand. I go for a half mile run, stretch then I’m good for a couple of hours. It does take a day or so longer to stop aching but you do get better too. Mix it up, go for rides around town sometimes, doing the simple tricks like bunny hop onto kerbs, manuals, just to keep fitness up. I’m more mellow inside so not so frantic which makes all progress feel good and realise a double back-flip is unlikely. Don’t fear age, adjust and enjoy - but get a good warm up routine sorted and be healthy. I’m routinely out shredding hills on my mountain bike and riding long trails. What you lose in speed you gain in stamina , you can just keep going. Never forget, the best rider is the guy having a good time😎

I totally wana get back into BMX simply for weight loss. Learning tricks are an extra. But it’s hard for me to get passed the stigma of an “30 something fat dude on a bmx bike” lmao. 😅😂😂

x500 it depends how you put it for yourself. If you want it and you know it will help you grow as a person - just do it mate, fu.k the stigmas as opinions of the others. You are not tequila - you can’t satisfy everyone :)
