    I have been knitting for years and still appreciate anyone that takes the time to explain in detail I love it and will now tackle this project. On the red heart video they say to knit I to every rectangle so will be taking it apart. Don't be discouraged by the odd negative comment maybe they should try and do a video it is much easier to criticize. Will be following you thanks again!

    Thank you so much. I am a crocheter and picked up this yarn to make the scarf. To my surprise it was knitting!!! I should have known, lol. I don't know how to knit. Thank god for the internet and for grandmas sewing basket with all the needles you could ever want, haha. Your tutorial helped me so much, I got the scarf done in one day. And it turned out awesome :)

    Your video saved me from throwing out my thread and quitting. Thank you! I'd watched several others videos and tried, over and over again, to make the scarf but it wouldn't come out right. I was very frustrated but decided to try one last time; and thankfully it was your video I found. For me, your teaching style was perfect. Keep up the great work - and thank you again! :)

    Thank you for the informative video. I am glad you took your time thoroughly explaining every step. How helpful this video was. I was able to pause each step and watch where the needle was placed. It has been about 30 years since home economics in high school where the teacher said left-handers were unteachable when it came to knitting and crocheting. So for people as myself we really appreciate a well thought out video because when it comes to knitting we truly are like kindergarteners. Keep up the good work!

    Thank you for the effort you put in to putting this out there! I had about 10" done and pulled it out because it looked like I was going in circles but thanks to your video, That's how they look!

    Thank you so much. I have watched so many other videos and still didn't get it. My scarf was coming out with no ruffles and looked layered in circles. Because your video was slow and showed more close up.....I now realize I needed to skip yet another square to get the ruffle. Like other viewers I think you are great!!

    Thanks so much for your kind words! It's lovely to hear that my video has been a help to anyone. Some people knit every rectangle but I think it's a bit easier to just do every other one. Another option for casting on (since you are an old hand at knititng) is to fold your yarn over at the beginning and knit through what would end up being the tail. I learned that method after I made the video otherwise I would have included it!

    Thank you for an awesome video! This is my very first knitting project and I've looked at a ton of videos for this scarf, and yours is by far the best with step by step and actually being able to see what you are doing! I may actually get this scarf made now, rather than continuing to restart! THANKS SO MUCH! :)

  • @temmytynn
    @temmytynn  11 лет назад +7

    Since making this video over a year ago I have learned a better way to cast on. Just start weaving your needles into the rectangles about 2 rectangles in from the beginning of the yarn. You don't have to leave a tail that you'll sew down later. I've started all of my sashay scarves like that for the past few months and none of them have fallen apart. Happy knitting!

    Thanks sweetdrops! A beginner audience was my focus here. I've been knitting for a while, myself, and when I was searching through videos trying to figure out what to do with this yarn, I was feeling sort of lost myself. I'm glad it was helpful!

    Temmytynn, Thank you so much, for producing your video. I have watched a few and I found yours the easiest and least confusing. Disregard any negative comments. You are kind enough to show us in the first play, for FREE. If someone doesn't like it, they can leave. I appreciate it. It is very good and I have been making these for gifts and they have been lovely. Thanks once again for your great instructions and I want to compliment the videographer, too! Some do the video so that you can't even see in the correct direction or close up what is being done. Your videographer is EXC!

    Great idea to to "flatten" the yarn!!! Makes it much easier to knit the project. It's definitely a project to do while watching the television. Thank you for sharing your video.

    I can't believe all of the negative comments! If you all are such great knitters then why watch a tutorial at all? Fast forward the parts you don't need. I'm a beginner, and it was most helpful- thank you!

      Hello again 🌺
      Do you have any ideas on how to attach a cut piece of the "Sashay" yarn together, the skien I bought has a bad place and I had to cut it ~ now I need to finish my scarf 🤪
      Thanks so much 🥰

    • @temmytynn
      @temmytynn  2 года назад

      @@nancymilner4922 If you overlap them and just start knitting into the rectangles, that will keep them joined up. I'd overlap maybe like 6 to 8 of the little rectangles from each piece to be safe. Hope that helps!

  • @applewalton1751

    Hi Yvette and,
    I watched the video for crocheting with the sashay yarn and I would like to know if you used one skein of yarn for this scarf and if you wanted to make it longer would you attach another skein towards the end of the first skein by folding the yarn as you did in the beginning to attach?

    • @temmytynn
      @temmytynn  5 лет назад

      Hi there! This particular scarf is made with 1 skein of the sashay yarn. You could make the scarf longer by using 2 skeins but I would recommend seeing the tails together rather than tying them together in a knot like one would normally do. This particular yarn would not hide a knot well.
      Alternatively you could overlap the new yarn and the old yarn's workable rectangles and just keep going. The knitting motion would tie the 2 together and should keep them held in place.

      Hi Nancy. The yearn I used is a brand called Red Heart. I live in Canada and was able to purchase it at a craft store called Michaels, but it is also available at Walmart.

    Sorry you feel that way =} I made this video more for people like my mom, who have a VERY basic understanding of knitting. People who already have an idea of what they are doing will find this video to be too long winded and slow moving, I'm sure. I hope you were able to find a quicker moving video that suited your pace.

    Helpful video! My question is if u unravel the sashay yarn first than stretch it out? Or do u stretch it out as u unravel ? This stretching it out as you knit or crochet or knit is time consuming and a pain. So I wondered what ur method was?

    • @temmytynn
      @temmytynn  9 лет назад

      I don't bother to stretch it out anymore because I am now comfortable working with this type of yarn. when I first started working with it though I used to unravel the whole ball and then wrap it around a card so it would stay flat. I found it to be worth the extra effort

      @temmytynn  9 лет назад

      sorry, you'd asked this question so long ago and I just now saw it. I am right handed. this video was shot with the camera against my body so the way you see the video is the way you see your work when you are looking at it, if you are also right handed

    how long should they be

    • @temmytynn
      @temmytynn  11 лет назад

      Hi Kevin. I just use the whole ball when I make mine. If you are like me and skip every second stitch, they'll end up being a little over 5 feet long. If you skip more stitches, your ruffles come out a bit wider and it will shorten the length.

  • @angel.of.nightmares6144
    @angel.of.nightmares6144 9 лет назад

    hi! I'm still so confused, how does one knit like this? I'm right handed so I don't know if your left handed or what and it could also be because this is the first time I've done something like this.

    • @temmytynn
      @temmytynn  9 лет назад

      Hi there. I am right handed and I filmed this video with my camera up against my body so that the way you see things in the video is the way you see them while you are working with the yarn. When you are doing your "yarn over" you will pick up the yarn with your right hand and place a rectangle onto the bottom needle.

    Thanks so much, Lisa! I will try to get some more videos up but I think that I will try to write a script first and stick to that. I am embarassed by the number of times that I say "um" in this video haha. And I teach kindergarten so I have a tendency to over emphasize a point to make sure that the little kids understand what I'm saying, and I can see that it's carried over into my personal life now as well haha.
