I found this type of yarn at the store, tried to crochet it, gave up. Went to the manufacturer for a tutorial video. This "yarn" taught me how to knit!!!! It never clicked in my mind/hands before using this product. Now I am knitting with traditional yarn ! :)
Once again this video is the only one that made ANY sense on how to bind off on this yarn.... Thank you thank you!
I have watched so many of these videos trying to learn how to do this and yours is by FAR the easiest one to follow and understand. Thank you!
So glad you like the video, I have another video called tiny net ruffle scarf and some beginner knitting videos, but that is all, I decided to make my channel more about crochet, so sorry I won't be having anymore knitting tutorials :(
Hi this is JoAnna. I have been knitting for a long time and I felt like an idiot knitting with this ruffle yarn too. So don't get discouraged...keep going cause you can do it!!!
Thank you so much for showing how to intertwine Each row and for showing how to end the scarf off. I watched 5 videos before this and since I have never knitted before I couldn't understand how to move rows.
Love how you place the yarn mesh on the left for control...and..YOU HAVE BEEN DESCRIBING HAVING WEIGHT OR TENSION ON THE BOTTOM. YES, IT HAS BEEN THE ANSWER FOR MY WORK, after ripping a scarf off twice!
Bonnie Konjevich I know that pain! So glad I helped you :D
This is actually JoAnna and not Zeke. I found this tutorial very helpful. I had a lady show me how to do this at the International Quilt festival but when I got home and started working on this I thought it looked wrong. I was actually doing it right :) Loved your idea of holding the yarn in your left hand...this worked wonderfully for me. thanks for your video and clear instructions!!
I have watched people knitting these scarves for ages and just have not been able to figure out how to do it. Thank you for your video which may just have saved my sanity!
Thanks for the explanation for the uniform ruffles at the beginning. I unraveled 2 attempts before I found your video.
Thank you for the info on the knitted scarf. -----------------made so much easier for me to finish. the instruction that came with the yarn was in complete. Again thanks for your help.
Found this instruction vid after messing around with a wide net yarn called "Scandalicious" from Plymouth Yarn until I nearly lost the will to live! This vid might be an oldie, but it's a goodie. Made the whole ruffle scarf thing perfectly clear. Thanks so much!
This was filmed after making at least a 100 of them so I really learned the tips and tricks of working with this yarn. Glad it was helpful!
Dear Beautiful Lady .... I was given netted yarn from a friend years ago and have just now thought I should do something with it. Instructions inside the yarn band were not really helpful. Yeah! youtube tutorials!. I found you. Thank you so much. Your tutorial is fantastic. The filming is very helpful. Your hints on how-to are great! I feel I can now have a go and feel confident in getting a reasonable result. Blessings for you and yours. Oh yes ... I'm in Australia.
People keep saying this, but I like the look of it when using them all and the length being long
Your very welcome. I learned how to make these scarves from a tutorial as well, but they didn't show your everything and after making a few I noticed the beginning was so uniform, frustrated me to no end! I set out to figure it out and after many more ripping out I finally figured it out. I have made well over a hundred of these scarves and was very happy to finally make the FULL tutorial I wished I had had to learn from!
I made 17 ruffle scarves in purple and gold for the ladies in my high school's band parent booster club using your video! Thank you so much, I know that the ladies love them!
Wonderful! :D
Thank you for sharing this tutorial, it was quite helpful.
I have been knitting for quite a few years now and decided to knit this scarf when my daughter showed me one a friend of hers had knitted.
I wasn't sure how to begin, as the instructions that come with the yarn are quite confusing.
Thank you again for this video... I will be knitting quite a few more of them, thanks to your very detailed tutorial video...
It's easier than I thought. Always thought it was more complicated. Awesome
I am a crocheter but with this sashay yarn I had to learn the basics of knitting and it's the only thing I knit...for now. I found that using every other loop and slightly tugging every row helps get rid of the uniform look in the beginning. And at the end of each row I start by skipping two loops for the new row. Thanks for the video!!
Yes I was told to do this from the very beginning, but then you loose yarn and its not as long, so I set out to fit the problem on my own :D
This was so awesome, My friend started me on it but didn't know how to end it, I met a lady in Joanns and she said to go online, then i found you. How wonderful, I finished my scarf thanks to you and will give it to my mom tommorrow. Thank you for being a blessing. I will show my other friend tommorrow how to end it. Its a beautifulpurple/lavender with bling on it.
I have looked at a few vids of how to knit these scarves and none of them really made it very clear but then I stumbled upon this one and hey presto, I can do it! Thanks so much for your time and sensible suggestions :)
You're very welcome! :D
Thanks, I was just given a bag of mixed yarn and found this odd yarn called Petals. So I got on youtube and quickly found your tutorial. Thanks for such a simple demonstration and the tip about holding thebeginning still.
So I'm off to make a ruffle scarf ! (pink with a green edge)
You are so welcome! Very glad you found the video helpful. I had made so many by that point and I was so glad to have tips to share. Best wishes!
Good luck! Don't give up, it gets better once you get the hang of it, like in all things. I only say this cause I almost gave up on them myself, but I am so glad I stuck with it, it will pay off!
Yes put 5 on the needle and feeding from the left, knit using the next 5 net holes, turn and repeat
Thank you. I have a bunch of the sashay yarn and i have the pattern but i couldnt figure out what they were talking about. So now i see how to do it
Very glad I could help :)
Thought I was doing something wrong because the scarf was so uniform at the beginning. Now I know I was knitting it the right way, just have to make sure it twists at the beginning. I can't wait to start over again. Thanks for the great tutorial. Have been knitting and crocheting for a long time, but it's always fun to learn something new.
I thought this was a great tutorial. You unraveled the mystery of the instructions for me. Thanks
This is exactly what I needed to watch to figure out why my scarf wasn't getting ruffley. Thank you for explaining that part! I have watched so many videos of this topic today [first day with this yarn] and i haven't understood why it was just a straight tube until now. Thank you so much!
Many thanks, haven't knitted for years, but have supplies to have a go at this and teach to the kids. Great, easy to understand tutorial, pix in oz
thank you for this video! I was recently given some of this ribbon yard and had no idea what to do with it until someone told me. I am doing 5 stitches as well! Your video just makes this look so easy and so fun!
You're very welcome! Thank you for your comment and thanks for watching! Come back soon :)
To be honest, I have never made a ruffle scarf before & now I am inspired & I want to make one for my mom’s birthday!
*-(Unfortunately, I don’t have that kind of yarn & today is my mom’s birthday. Well, I’ll get the yarn & make one for Christmas!)-* Thanks for the tutorial! 👍🏻
Thanks so much for sharing this. I bumped into a lady at our first HOBBY LOBBY here in Hampton Roads Virginia and she told me there was a tutorial. Wooo Whoo I found it and hopefully will now be able to make one of my own:) Thanks again:)
Eileen Gusler Good luck!!
Thank you very much for the demonstration. I have the pattern but couldn't get started. This is video is very helpful. Looking forward to more.
thank you so much!!! i finished my first ruffled scarf tonight. This was a good tutorial. I was able to come back a couple times and make sure I was doing it right. Thank you again.
I don't know how to knit & I just finished my 1st ruffle scarf with your tutorial. Thank you so much! Great instructions!
For the US it's Starbella, for Israel where I am from and where I first found this yarn, it's called something else. Different companies out here :D
Very detailed and great tutorial. Now we will try knitting a scarf so i can be as much in style as all my friends! Thanks so much.
After working on it a little while I hold it up and let it spin out some, don't let it get to tightly spun in the middle as you work on it. But if it's still to tight try bigger needles, your yarn should tell you the recommended size.
Awesome tutorial the yarn sleeve was quite good as to how to knit the scarf but did not explain how to start and finish. You made it look easy. Thank you
She did show how to start, don't know about finish as I haven't got there yet
This is a great tutorial! I just saw these scarves at a craft fair and came home to find a tutorial. You make it look super easy. I can't wait to give it a try. Thanks so much!
Thank you so very much for this tutorial! I was "all thumbs" trying to hold the yarn in the right and and fiddling with the knitting needles; I tried holding the yarn in the left and voila...success! It worked great and quickly as well. Again, thanks so much!
If you can find them do so, and if you haven't gone to far you may wanna back up to grab a solid 5 that you know are connected. If it's just one you can just pick up another net as you go. But it's 3 so your scarf has a chance to unravel if you keep going without securing them
I love the color of the yarn.
Thanks, me too ❤
This was a great tutorial. Your way of casting off was the best & easiest of all of them! Thank you for posting it!
Depends on how big the nets are, because the bigger the net the least amount of time you need to knit a long scarf. A medium scarf can take me about 2 and a half hours or so.
Your very welcome. Best of luck to you!
Yes I do, look up Meladoras Creations on etsy
Best video yet! Still not doing very well but cant be explained or shown any simpler than this, thanks!
I buy it in a shop called Peshtan near the shook off Weistman and Hertzal street in kefar saba. Starbella is the american company, the kind you find in israel goes by a few different names, the ball of yarn looks a bit like shoe laces, but it's very popular and all the yarn shops should carry it.
Thank you so much for the tutorial. My Aunt made a ruffle scarf for me and everywhere I go, someone always asks me where I got that. I have tried making one myself, because I absolutely love my ruffle scarf. Here in Phoenix, AZ, the winters are not cold enough to need a big bulky scarf. The ruffle scarf is the perfect level of warmth I need around my neck. I am going to attempt to make another scarf the way that you demonstrated. It looks exactly like the one my Aunt made for me.
I have one but not 100% happy with it so it's something I think will do better with the softer acrylic that is coming out now. I will have to look more into it.
I just wanted to say thank you for posting this tip. I tried the method in the video and was getting a very uniform look, saw your tip and started over and it fixed the problem! :)
Best of luck to you, I know you can do it, don't let it fustrate you and give up, I almost did, but so glad I didn't!
They have different styles coming out all the time. They used to have these Huge holes on some when they first came out lol. They have messed with the design and colors almost constantly since they made this yarn. If you have bigger holes and want a fuller scarf you could add more eyes on your needle, could mean you'll have a shorter scarf than you like so think about getting two skeins to work with to make sure you get the desired length
I bought a few balls of the mesh yarn simply because it was on sale and thought I'd find a tutorial on it somewhere. Your tutorial has been so simple and easy to understand, obviously knowing how to knit normal 'knit and purls' is essential :P I'm already onto my 3rd scarf. Really relaxing to do without having to concentrate on a pattern. Thanks so much for taking the time to share your demonstration :))
You're very welcome, so glad I could help :D
Thank you for this tutorial, I made a scarf and it turned out really well.
So happy to hear that!
I have made several ruffle scarves and added a twist to mine. Will take pictures and send at a later date as iit is 12:20 am and I am tired!
Yes this tutorial shows you that.
Thank you soooo much! I got my wool and directions and it was like reading Greek! You have made it very easy and I think I am now ready to attack my project. Couldn't have done it without you. Merry Christmas!
I can see that you start doing the way you said but after you change the way to knit. Thanks God I know how to do it!
Wonderful! I also thought of some kind of pin, just the kind I have here are cheap and don't hold so good. Took me a long time to figure out what was causing it to be so uniform, was glad to finally figure it out. So glad to help others learn this as well!
This was filmed on a very old camera that i don't have anymore. Logitech is all I know about it.
This video was very helpful !I am just finishing up my first scarf. Thankyou ! :)
Thank you so much for the turtorial - It was great - you showed every little detail. I am making one and this they are beautiful and so easy. Thanks, Paula
I am in sixth class (8th grade) and we are learning how to do them kind of knitting and I thought it was hard when I saw them knitting it but it is easy when u look at ur video :) thx for showing I won't be nervous about knitting them I have a red one byw
Thank you for the tutorial. I started today my first scarf, I hope it turns out nice. Your tutorial is simple and clear, just what I needed as a beginner. Keep up the good work!
Great video just what I needed to see what to do with the ends :)
Glad I could help!
Thanks for sharing. This was so easy. I seen this yarn at the quilting show at Grand Rapids. It looked great. I can't wait to make one for all my friends and family.
I'm making my first. Thank you for tutorial.
You’re welcome 😊
There are so many new ones coming out. The yarn will tell you which needles to use. Go with what they say.
This works perfectly: a large T-pin ... I pinned the 4" tail piece directly to the sofa cushion. Started the scarf for the 4th time and I got ruffles right off the bat. Would post a picture if I could. It looks great! A baby's diaper pin might work also if anyone still uses real diapers for their babies.
lol wouldn't help, I smoked at this time and was always having to clear my throat. Good thing is though that now I have editing software so I remove all that stuff. This was one of the first tutorials I ever filmed. I have come a long way since this one was filmed. Thank you for your input.
that was really helpful, thanks for sharing this. I am in Canada, so my family and friends need these
I always just used the whole skein of yarn to make the scarf. But I found that the ones that came out 180 cms or 71 inches in length were the best. So 52 inches is not long at all, keep going :D
Love this!!!!!! cant wait to make my first one.. thank you for your step by step tutorial.
I can not do the scarf because I have nerve damage on my left hand and cant use it, you o a awesome job God Bless
Thank you! Definitely the best tutorial How to make a ruffle scarf :-) I'm knitting my first one.
Thank you so much for sharing. I never knitted anything before and was able to do it. Great tutorial!
I agree with previous comment and I especially like th efeed the yarn from the left - this works better for me also - so thank you!
she is a great instructor. thanks for the tutorial.
+Kimberly Griffin Thank you Kimberly :D
I will make these for Christmas, they are marvelous!
Thank you.
Your very welcome, glad I could help!
I switched to bamboo needles too. I found the aluminum needles are too slick too. I will however switch to the larger size that you recommend and see if it helps me. Thanks for the suggestion!
It's almost impossible to get it with the messy look at the very beginning, but like I say in the video, as soon as you can grab the bottom with your knee, or if you can think of another way to hold it some how from the very beginning that will keep the bottom still so it twist while you work it. If the bottom is not held, it goes uniform on you.
Most of us do, its backwards to me too lol and you know it was really hard to me to get used to at first, I almost gave up (shhhhhh) but I wasn't gonna let it beat me so I kept trying and now believe it or not it's second nature to me. It's a little weird when I gotta do regular knitting again though hehe. But it's the best way to knit and control this yarn. No worries, you will persevere! Don't let it win! :D
thnx so much for this video, i finished my scarf without it starting to unwrap itself. thnks so much...
Thank you so much. The instructions I was given just didn't make sense as they were translated from the yarn holder which was in German. After seeing your tutorial it all becomes clear.
Your very welcome :)
Everytime they come out with a new set of colors the net size changes and so doe the length. I use the Israeli ones and turkish ones mostley. I have no idea how long they are compared to Starbella, they aren't even as long as one another! :D
Good luck! I always keep a clothes pin near me and attach it to my desk as I start one :)
Thank for helping my mom with this
Its a beutiful skarf I like it and I love to make one. Thanks for your tutorial..!
Thank you. It was a great tip. I will start one this week. It's hard to find the yarn!
I found a place on Amazon that you can buy some. Hope it helps amzn.to/41o3zUe
Oh people will love them! You will probably get some orders after others see the scarves you made lol, so be prepared :D
Good luck and best wishes on your projects!
I have a suggestion. Instead of using straight, slippery needles, try a sixteen inch bamboo circular. Especially if you're going to put your work down before it's finished. I learned the hard way. My aluminum needle slipped out of all the stitches and I had to carefully rip back to find the last dropped stitch. Luckily I didn't have to rip it completely out as I had about two feet done, just a few rows. Bamboo will hold onto your stitches better.
Love your video. Using it I was able to make one of these scarves! Such an easy tutorial to follow. Thank you so much for doing this!!!
Such a wonderful scarf and stylish too. I will try to make one and see how it turns out :-)
Thank you for showing us.
In His Grace, Lorisa aka ElleScrapper
This was a great video. Needed this.
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks so much! Now I got it! I couldn't understand how it was done until I watched your video. Unbelievable, it's easy! Hahaa Thanks a lot!
Yaaaaay so glad I could help you understand! Yes it really is easy and fun and the end scarf is beautiful! I hope now you can make many in as many colors as you want :D
Glad I could help. Best of luck to you, hope it comes out wonderful.
