I just noted the times of the different steps: Step 1 (1:00), Step 2 (1:39), Step 3 (3:54), Step 4 (7:39), Step 5 (8:52), Step 6 (13:05), Cast off (16:18). Thank you for this beautiful pattern. :)
Hi Francesca, Thank you for your comment. Also thank you for taking time to write the start times of all the steps. The link to the written instruction you can find in the description below the video.
Hi when it say repeat steps 4,3, and 2 (13:07) could you pls explain what stitches to repeat all through to get desired length I liked the pattern wanted to make one
Hello @interunet I am having trouble playing the entire video. It doesnt play after 11:36. I am stuck on the new pattern and i am not too sure why there are three rows and the first says "right side" which means we are missing the 4th row? can you please help- i am stuck at that step
Hi tarunaramnani, Please visit this webpage interunet.com/how-to-knit-a-scarf-for-a-man to read the written instructions also. It is necessary to knit the 1st and 3rd rows (right side) and purl the 2nd and 4th rows (wrong side). Happy knitting!
I really like this - you knit in the back loop going one way and knit in the front loop going the other way - is there a reason?? I knit in the loop all stitches and purl like you thank you - nice scarf
Hi jmarylastone, Usually I knit in the front loop because that way stitches look nicer (in my opinion). It is especially the case when I knit in round. When there are right and wrong sides, I often knit in the back loop to make my knitting easier and faster, but it is just my personal thing. Do the way you are more comfortable with.
This is an old question, I know, but I thought I'd contribute. I was confused at first, too. It's because of how she perls, continental-style. You always knit/perl into the *leading* leg of the stitch, right? Well, when she perls, she pulls the yarn through backwards (it appears to be an easier way to get a grip on the yarn, and I like it) -- watch closely how she grabs the yarn, sort of coming back with the needle and coming down on it from above. So when you flip it around, the leading leg is in the back.
Taylor Miller Hi Taylor Miller, Thank you for the comment. I'm glad that you liked the scarf pattern and plan to make one. You may use a written instruction (interunet.com/how-to-knit-a-scarf-for-a-man) along with the video. It is important to skip one stitch at the very beginning of each row to have a nice edge. Happy knitting!
Taylor Miller Easiest...Alternate stockinette with reverse stockinette, either in stripes (horizontal) or square blocks. Don’t forget to get your gauge right so the blocks will be square. Worsted, size 9 US needles. Around 80 inches BLOCKED AND STEAMED for him to do the Parisian knot. Sports weight wool...get your gauge on size 7 needles for approx. 10 inches wide. Most important...has to go with fave coat or jacket, not be scratchy on skin, ans bis best or favorite color!
Hi GingerRootable, Thank you for the comment. I do have my knit patterns on my site. The link to this pattern is interunet.com/how-to-knit-a-scarf-for-a-man.
Sorry.... I am a beginner and I found this very hard to follow and really do not think this was done for someone who is just starting out knitting to understand and follow.....
HI, I love the pattern! If I want to make the scarf wider (more than 22 stitches) how do I calculate how many more stitches are needed? will the pattern work as long as I have an even number of stitches?
For the sixth step, should I repeat step 4 then 3 then 2 or should i repeat from 2 to 3 to 4? And I wanna ask, should I knit and purl for thrice or twice for step 2 I'm a bit confused. However, the scarf is absolutely beautiful!!!
+MeCoMeL You're welcome, MeCoMeL. I'm glad you liked the tutorial. I designed edges to be that way. If you do not want that, you may cast on 24 sts instead of 22 to have one extra stitch on each side of the scarf. Happy knitting!
It's been decades since I last did any knitting. Would love to get back to knitting again! What needle size did you use here? Also, how thick or what brand is the yarn you're using? You make it look so easy to follow!
Hi Dang, Thank you for the comment and the good questions. Please visit my page (interunet.com/how-to-knit-a-scarf-for-a-man) to find more information about the project. Happy knitting!
Hi, can you please tell me the needle size US 5 which EU size it corresponds? I looked on your website but i didn't find any size charts btw US and EU, sorry...
hi, i just start knitting, i only know cast on, knit & purl stitches so i thought i should make something simple and i found this! but one question, do u always skip your first stitch as u start new row? u already slip a stitch to the right needle even when the instruction only tell to knit or purl across. and when it said to skip 1, u already skip the 1st stitch then u skip the next one. i hope u'll understand what i mean.
+ursula konstantin Hi ursula konstantin, Yes, I usually always skip the very first stitch of a row, but if the instruction doesn't call for a stitch to be slipped, you don't have to do it. If you follow exactly the video or written instruction, you'll get the scarf the same as mine. Happy knitting!
hi, thanks for your reply, really appreciate it. so it's like your own preference to skip the first stitch in every row, right? i got better in knit & purl stitch so this morning i tried this scarf, i got lost, i didn't skip the first stitch the way u do. later this evening i'll skip the first stitch, i hope i'll get it fine. really appreciate your tutorials, knitting & crocheting, really help me, esp in knitting. hope u'll have a good day!
+ursula konstantin As I've written, if the pattern doesn't call for a first stitch to be skipped, you do not have to slip it. But if the instruction calls for a stitch to be slipped, it is necessary to do it. When you skip the first st., the edge of the scarf will look better.
+Smitha E Thomas Hi Smitha, Please visit this page interunet.com/how-to-knit-a-scarf-for-a-man to find the written instruction. No, the number of sts should not increase. Happy knitting!
Hi, thank you for posting this. What kind of pattern is the step 5? Because I made a mistake and I'm trying to go back and fix it, but I'm having trouble. I would like to know what pattern it is so I can search for a video to see how to go back to fix knitting mistakes on the pattern you used on step 5. Can you teach me?
Hi cinnabun616, Thanks for the comment. The step 5 you may watch starting from 8:47. The link to the full written instruction you can find in the description below the video.
Hi 646mtorres, Yes, I usually skip the first stitch of each row to make both right and left edges look better. However, it is optional, and you may choose to knit them regardless.
I just started this pattern yesterday. Since you r holding the yarn on the left hand, it's a bit confusing for me 😀 For this reason I am following both , the video and written instructions. However, some info are missing in the written instructions , like the skipping of first stitch and a few more. But that's ok. It's giving me practice on how to follow written instructions 😊 Thank you for the Luvly pattern.mi hope it turns out good as am a beginner .
I don't know, but there is some magic in your knitting which I love best. I'm going to practice with less no of loops first: before I venture. By the way how many casts did you take here ? Wish me good luck.
Good to know I am new to knitting and my Sister told me I was knitting the wrong leg and my purl was off so I changed the purl and the knit. My scarf doesn’t look much like hers.
Did you use a larger needle and yarn size? I bought size 4 yarn and size 5 needles per the instructions and mine looks like a baby scarf no thicker than 5 inches at most. Very disappointed
Hi jonathancolucci,If you look closer at the picture (interunet.com/how-to-knit-a-scarf-for-a-man), you'll see that my scarf is not very wide also. I designed it that way. If you want your scarf to be wider, you may cast on more stitches (just add some even number of sts). Happy knitting!
I am a beginner.. I have started knitting this pattern and I have already completed the half scarf..the pattern is coming up pretty well. My concern is that my scarf edges are curling inside.. scarf is not staying flat.. Is it normal?? I am slipping first stitch on every row as mentioned in pattern.. Thank you for this lovely pattern.. and your video make it easy to understand.
I'm a beginner as well but I think you may pulled to shed in the stitches? I know when I was watching a few other tutorial I remember hearing something like that. I maybe confusing it with crocheting. Hope this helped
Yadira Gonzalez Hi Yadira Gonzalez, Thanks for the good question. Yes, the main part will look like that, but the ribbing (step 3 - interunet.com/how-to-knit-a-scarf-for-a-man). Happy knitting!
Hi velvetxroses x, It depends on the yarn you'll choose for the project (interunet.com/how-to-knit-a-scarf-for-a-man). You can make either one. Happy knitting!
mann Sohal Hi mann Sohal, Thanks for the good question. It is necessary to cast on any even number of stitches to make the scarf wider. Happy knitting!
Hi, I am almost finishing this knitting project. But I wonder why the edges of this scarf curled up. It looks like a tube rather than a sheet. Is there any solution for this?? Thank you!! By the way, this pattern is really nice! I love the outcome! :)
TheFluffylumpy Hi TheFluffylumpy, I'm glad that you liked the pattern. My edges curl up too. I wanted them to be that way. Depending on the yarn, you may try to iron the scarf.
+Divya Tamang I designed the scarf to be that way. If you do not want it, you may add 2 extra stitches after the scarf ribbing (1 st at the very beginning of a row and 1 st at the very end of the row).
+InterUnet I just completed my muffler yesterday it did came out very well but I didn't liked the rolled ends. I will try another one . thank you so much 😆😆

Hi James, After I've knitted my first and second rows, I repeated them again and again. So, my third row was like the 1st one and 4th row was as the 2nd one and so on. Happy New Year!
Samantha Ng Hi Samantha Ng, Thanks for the good question. I would advise you to get about 2 balls of yarn. For more info about the project, please visit interunet.com/how-to-knit-a-scarf-for-a-man. Happy knitting!
I am not a fan of the British knitting method. I tried it once and my stitches ended up too tight for my preference. Watching your video gave me an idea I should try it again.
Hi mschea00, I wrote to repeat steps 4, 3, and 2 because you need to knit the other end of the scarf as a mirror reflection of how you started it. In other words, your both scarf ends should be the same. Happy New Year!
mcwaterstone Hi mcwaterstone, Thanks for the good question. It depends on many factors like how many hours a day you can devote to the project. It took me less than 2 days to finish the scarf project. Happy knitting!
interunet.com/how-to-knit-a-scarf-for-a-man I’m just seeing this but here’s the link😁 it worked when I opened it so you can try opening it from here. Or try on ur computer
HI do I have to use the circular needles... can i use regular needles ? I have US size 6 needles will that be okay to knit this pattern. also can I eliminate the ribbing part... Please advise please....
If anyone have made this scarf already-- please help me... youtube doesnt play the video after 11 minutes. i have trouble with step 5, she have mentioned "right side" on 1st row... but it wont work out eventually. when i will be on 4th row of step 5, it will be wrong side and it will be asking me to do 1st row if repeat all those three (new pattern: 1st (rs - right side), 2nd (ws- wrong side), 3rd (rs), 1st (ws), 2nd (rs), 3rd (ws), 1st (rs), 2nd (ws), 3rd (rs).....)
Even rows/numbers are 2, 4, 6, 8, and so on. Odd rows/numbers are 1, 3, 5, 7, and so on. If you read carefully the instructions, you'll see that the second row and all even rows you should work the same way. It is necessary to work *1st row, 2nd row, 3rd row, and 4th row (4th row = 2nd row). Then repeat the pattern starting from the *.
@@InterUnet Haha, thank you so much... I completely missed reading " and all even row" - thank you for clarifying. I also have one more question. Why do we skip first stitch every time? I want to understand what does it do/what pattern does it make? I am getting a lot of loose loops at the ends...
Hi tarunaramnani, My side loops also slightly bigger. When I skip a first stitch, each side of the scarf look nicer compare to not skipping first stitches. Happy knitting!
Really nice stitch and looks nice on either sex! Like the sweater your model was wearing as well. Do you have them in a pattern on a blog? Nice work lady! I am definitely going to make the scarf and keep it for me! ha! I might make an extra for a birthday gift. Your choice in yarn and color were spot on!
Sorry, you don't talk much, or loud or clear. I don't understand anything you're saying. I would really like to make the scarf bit just can't understand the how you're doing the stitches. You should talk more and explain clearly what you're doing.
For those who tension is a bit tighter casting on with two needles in order to make the loops bigger. That way it will be easier to knit the first row.
I just noted the times of the different steps: Step 1 (1:00), Step 2 (1:39), Step 3 (3:54), Step 4 (7:39), Step 5 (8:52), Step 6 (13:05), Cast off (16:18). Thank you for this beautiful pattern. :)
Hi Francesca,

I was taught to knit just like you. Later I was told that my stitches were backwards. Your way is so much easier. Thanks for sharing.
This is the continental way of knitting. This is how I learned it too. So much easier and faster! NOT backward LOL.
You are a very good instructor☺. I will knit my scarf just like yours. Thank you very very much😊😀
Definitely will try this. The tutorial is very easy to follow. Thank you.

After I've knitted my first and second rows, I repeated them again and again. So, my third row was like the 1st one and 4th row was as the 2nd one and so on. Happy New Year!
Hi InterUnet , how many wools do we need for this men scarf?
Samantha Ng
Hi Samantha Ng,
Thanks for the good question.
When you say repeat 4,3, and 2. Do I repeat the rows in the new patterns.
Hi mschea00,
I wrote to repeat steps 4, 3, and 2 because you need to knit the other end of the scarf as a mirror reflection of how you started it. In other words, your both scarf ends should be the same. Happy New Year!
How do you keep the edges from curling inwards?
Hi jmoon36ly,
From the picture you can see that my edges curl inwards also. It is just such type of a scarf.
Does anybody know what size of yarn and needles she used? Please leave a comment below. Thanks so much!
There is a link in description for project details.
How long did this scarf take?
mcwaterstone
Hi mcwaterstone,
Thanks for the good question. It depends on many factors like how many hours a day you can devote to the project. It took me less than 2 days to finish the scarf project. Happy knitting!
Hi! The video is cutting off at 12 minutes. Any way I can finish it?
Hi Tirzah Hall,
The written instructions you may find on this webpage interunet.com/how-to-knit-a-scarf-for-a-man. I will be happy to help you out.
how long does it take for you to knit a big, complete scarf?
Oh ok got it thanks for the tutorial and happy new year to u too.
Thank you
Very nice and seems easy enough to try for a beginner like me :-) Thanks!
Hi Lorraine,
Thank you for your comment. I also believe that this pattern is easy enough for beginners.
Very beautiful scarf, but the pattern was a bit incomplete and impossible to do without the video! Thanks for the upload
I can't open the pattern, what can I do? Thank you.

I’m just seeing this but here’s the link😁 it worked when I opened it so you can try opening it from here. Or try on ur computer
little complicated but i'mma try this :)))
What does it mean to "skip"
Daniell Pritchett hallo you dident knitt the first stitch.
Thank you for your great video. I am trying to learn ho to knit.
HI do I have to use the circular needles... can i use regular needles ? I have US size 6 needles will that be okay to knit this pattern. also can I eliminate the ribbing part... Please advise please....
Hi Shilpa,
You can use regular needles and US 6 should work perfectly. You also may skip the ribbing part all together.
Thankyou so much :)
Кромочную( последнюю петлю) закрывайте всегда изнаночной .that way it looks better.
Merci beaucoup esque possible traduire en français merci
can I crochet this pattern?
Hi tarunaramnani,
My side loops also slightly bigger. When I skip a first stitch, each side of the scarf look nicer compare to not skipping first stitches. Happy knitting!
not here to learn. just here to see the effort it takes to make 1 scarf
I love this video
u r so fast for beginners
Looks like your knit stitch is actually a ktbl stitch.
תודה למי שסורגת שם היא יודעת להסביר טוב יותר מכולם
Really nice stitch and looks nice on either sex! Like the sweater your model was wearing as well. Do you have them in a pattern on a blog? Nice work lady! I am definitely going to make the scarf and keep it for me! ha! I might make an extra for a birthday gift. Your choice in yarn and color were spot on!
It appears complicated, maybe because of the way u knot, seen for 1st time

I uploaded the video.
Make some more
Fuck I’m slipping knitwise which is wrong
It’s coming out wonky lol I know why now
I don't understand
"There is no such thing as men's scarves" I thought, then I realized, its the Internet. Anything is Possible.
Pésima traducción, deberían revisar antes de publicar.
It would have been better if you would have started from the beginning, not giving it the base...
Your design is awesome but I couldn't hear a thing you said. Your explanation isn't clear, thank you.
Hi Nkwanzi Tahiya,
You may read the written instructions on this webpage interunet.com/how-to-knit-a-scarf-for-a-man.
Sorry, you don't talk much, or loud or clear. I don't understand anything you're saying. I would really like to make the scarf bit just can't understand the how you're doing the stitches. You should talk more and explain clearly what you're doing.
Silly way of casting on stitches! 😠
For those who tension is a bit tighter casting on with two needles in order to make the loops bigger. That way it will be easier to knit the first row.
