  • PLEASE DO NOT ASK ME SPECIFICS OF THIS PATTERN. My tutorial is NOT meant to be a substitute to purchasing the $5 pattern.
This is a quick video to show how to start off the Sophie Scarf by Petite knit. I’m a little late to the Sophie Scarf game, but I’ve really enjoyed knitting three of them and wearing them. I struggled in the beginning and just hope that this video helps out anyone else starting this scarf who needs the visual. You can find the link to the scarf to purchase here on Ravelry.

When I made this, the increase front and back of stitch made a distortion along the I-cord edge so instead I knit 3 then made a backward loop thumb cast on. It makes a much neater increase.

This was a godsend to find; thank you! I was disappointed not to find the decreasing explained. You showed how to do the increases so well, but I will be stuck once I come to the tapering part. I purchased both this and the Sophie Shawl pattern from Ravelry and began the shawl, but made a mistake. I have decided to start over again, but start with the scarf. I'd love to see a Part Two for the decreasing part. I know this is suuuper basic, but I am brand new! I have never decreased. Showing the bind-off would be wonderful too. I don't know if you'd be willing to continue on with a part two. Just showing a couple of decreasing rows. Either way, thanks very much for this one! Incredibly clear and well done. Will follow you for more! PS Just ordered that finger counter!

    • @StarfireReborn

Did Your Needle Change The Size Drastically Or Did You Just Have An Airy Sophie Scarf? I've Seen So Many Knit Differently, But I Wanted To Use Mohair Held Triple For Mine & Was Wondering If It Would Be Too Dense, And If I Had To Go Up A Needle Size (Or Two) If It Would Be Kinda Sophie Shawl Size? Thanks For Your Input!

Excellent advice. Thank you!! I’ll definitely make sure to use a different color next time. 😊

Hello, and thanks for vid. I’ve done three so far but I’m suddenly running into challenges with the next. Was on row three and noticed the yarn was left in front (oppose to the back). I’m squeamish about fixing or tinking stitches without a more experienced knitter nearby.

I completely understand your squeamish-ness. 😂 There’s a project I’d like to do with techniques new to me and I wish I knew another knitter in real life that I could just knit with so I wouldn’t feel so intimidated and alone in it. My local yarn store is an hour away, so I can’t just run there for help. I suggest bravely facing the frog and watch some “Tink” videos and trying. The worst that could happen is that you’d start over. I dropped a few stitches when I was doing my scarves and it was so frustrating, but after after you get into the groove it’s not so intimidating. Good luck to you and I appreciate you watching my video and commenting. It helps my channel a lot.

@@TheGingerNinjaJournalsthanks a bunch for your reply. I frequent local knit/crochet groups in my area. Some meet on Zoom (since the 🦠), libraries, malls and community centers. I’m looking forward to my next visit.

I just gave up on it. I was knitting it as a gift to my daughter for dog mom's day and I got so frustrated. It was keeping track of the rows for me. What is the point of having a row counter on when you can't remember to click on it because you're not used to using one. Totally killed this project for me.

A chain row counter might help you. Each time you begin a new row you have to pass the chain from the lift needle to the right.
