Stephanie, I made these again for this year's Thanksgiving but this time I used bourbon instead of vanilla and boy was that delicious. I didn't think I could like these pecan squares more than I already did but that little bit of bourbon really took it over the top. Got lots of compliments on these, as always. Yum, yum, yum.

I just did it. But I don't have pecans so I used walnuts (120gr because I like them). I have put maple syrup instead of golden syrup. I mixed half of the nuts with eggs and the other half I sprinkled over the top. Delicious. Thanks for the receipe 😘
I made these bars to see if I could substitute them for the pie. They are FABULOUS! My husband said these are better than pie and less messy. I'm serving these for the holidays. Thanks for your video as well. Informative and enjoyable. Easy to follow. You're funny too.

If anyone is undecided about whether or not to make these, please make them, you won’t be disappointed, I made them to freeze to get ahead a little for the holidays and we’ve gone and eaten the whole tray! I even made your chocolate cake with chocolate butter cream frosting for our wedding~!! I didn't want to make a whole pecan pie so I tried these so I can share with neighbors...the came out great! Thank you for sharing with such clarity and attention to detail...you make it so easy to learn and your recipes are wonderful.... I make your molasses cookies often as well and EVERYONE loves them~!!
Just made this, and it was absolutely delicious. I didn't have the cane syrup (and even though it's sold in Texas stores, it is expensive), so I used the corn syrup as suggested (but I used 1/4 dark and 1/4 cup light corn syrup- as many southern pecan pie recipes suggest this method). Also, instead of using 1 tbsp of flour in the mixture, I used 1 1/2 tsp corn starch. I used the vanilla in the crust, too. This is a keeper- because it's very much like a pecan pie- but it uses much less of the amount of ingredients compared to a pie and the portions are so much smaller. I've only come across your channel recently, and I thoroughly enjoy your methodology. Thank you for helping me become a better baker.
I've looked and looked for golden syrup and never could find it. I'm glad I found your Pecan Squares Recipe and now I know where to get golden syrup. I love pecan pie, but it's a bit sweet for me. Maybe this will be just a bit less sweet, but still yummy. I also like the idea of having brown sugar in the short bread. Thank you for this video. I'm ordering golden syrup right now.
Golden Syrup is popular in Australia as well. Though we can get the Lyle brand, we also have our own as sugar cane grows in Australia. The European products if they are not getting their sugar from the Caribbean, the sugar will have been derived from beets. As a child I remember have butter and golden syrup on bread to eat after school, or on a weetbix.

Sugar beets used to be a major source of sugar for some high-latitude regions, but some areas no longer do this since it is cheaper to import, due to the excessively low wages and zero environmental regulations of overseas locales.

I have the Golden in my pantry. Unmistakable luscious flavor. Years ago my mother in law brought some Roger’s Golden from Saskatchewan in Canada. I’ll try this with my pecan pie or bars. Great idea. 🐾🐾
I was sceptical about adding all that golden syrup but these pecan squares turned out perfectly! They were not cloyingly sweet and were very moreish. I will definitely be making these again.
We just enjoyed this while still very warm from the oven, topped with whipped cream. My husband's response, "This is really good!" Yes, I agree! Thank you!! I added one tablespoon of maple syrup to a measuring cup, then added light corn syrup to reached the 1/2 cup measurement. Not sure the maple made any difference in such a small quantity, but the finished texture was A+ perfect.
My mentor, you are the best all the way even when most of the items are not available I still try my best to bake it. Have it taste nice and I always repeat the cake once I get the whole ingredients. I give it to you. Keep the spirit.

My grandmothers used Golden Syrup in tin cans and I use it too! Found the syrup in our grocery store know as Ingles in South Carolina in glass jars and tin can.

I used walnuts and corn syrup. No one noticed they were walnuts and they weren't too sweet.
