MOST of Sabs tracks were written by Geezer.
    Ozzie interpreted them perfectly.
With mad Bill on the sticks and Tony Riffmeister Iommi, they couldn’t lose.

They did the tracks as a band jamming together. Ozzy came up with the melody line and Geezer usually wrote the lyrics.

One of their best albums, and this came out in 71 and STILL sounds as fresh as it did when it was released. So goddam heavy and the subject matter is so relevant to this day.
Tony Iommi, that's all that needs to be said.

I believe that the older I get, the better these songs sound to me. IDK if it's that today's music is that bad or that I've just learned to appreciate them more. Because there's plenty of new stuff coming out that I absolutely love. Maybe it's a little of both with more emphasis on appreciation in my aged self! 🤘🏼💙🤘🏼

I remember in the early 80s being the only 1st grader asking for black sabbath when my teacher asked us what kind of music did we want to hear on her radio. My family was steeped in rock hard rock and country. My dad listened to pretty much anything and I grew up hearing Judas priest, black sabbath, boston,Janis joplin, Willie nelson, led zepplin, parliament funkadelic, acdc, pink floyd,Beatles white album, rush, yardbirds,Chicago in my home because we owned the records. We had hendrix, van halen, blue oyster cult, allman brothers, lynerd skynerd, Molly hatchet and many others on 8 track. So as kids were learning that the wheels on the bus go round and round I was learning that I'm travel in down the road and I'm flirtin with disaster or that fairies wear boots, or that all in all there's just another brick in the wall lol.

1COMIXMAN you reminded me of when my son started kindergarten! I, like you, listened to everything you listed there, and played it regularly - so my kids, naturally, heard all this when they were babies, toddlers & school-age to now.
I have a video of my middle boy, singing 'I AM IRON MAN' when he was 3 or 4. So when he started school (and a Catholic school to boot), there was a questionnaire from his teacher, asking numerous questions - one being favourite music/bands - so imagine our raised eyebrows at putting "Black Sabbath, Muse, Rush...etc." on that list. He's 15 now, and we still laugh about that!!

Tony Iommi wrote just about all their songs and bass player Geezer Butler wrote the lyrics to almost all their songs. Butler (and not Ozzy) most likely wrote the lyrics to INTO THE VOID.

Geezer did - in fact when this song was being demoed, Ozzy looked at Geezer and asked him if he was trying to kill him, because there were so many words to fit into Ozzy's melody line. Usually any sci-fi lyrics in early Sabbath would be Geezer's, as he is a huge sci-fi fan.

Sabbath came out of Birmingham England, an industrial city that was deeply entrenched in WW II, bombings and the like. Given their age, the band members were directly influenced by that, hence the war themes. As well, Geezer Butler penned most of the lyrics...there are exceptions along the way and collaborations, but Geezer was the main lyricist.

Tony is key to Sabbath, but Geezer wrote a lot of the lyrics too

Check out Oz and his son Jack checking out a live show of Mac Sabbath, a Sabbath cover band with the members of the McDonalds crew(Grimace,Mayor..) complete with cheeseburger of doom style lyrics.

    Fun fact:
The band hated recording this song. Bill couldn't find the right beat. When he did, Ozzy couldn't hit the right melody.
When they finally got it, I bet they let out a huge collective sigh of relief!
