True story John Bonham the drummer of led Zeppelin was Tony Iommi's, guitarist of Black Sabbath, best man.
They all hung out together. Robert plant and Bonham were brummies or close to it.

I don’t know if you guys know the guitarist, Tony Iommi, heavy metal guitar tone was partly born from an accident. He had the tips of his fingers cut off in a factory right before he was to quit to play in the band full time. He had rubber thimbles made to fit on his fingers. Still, he needed to downtune his guitar which slackened the the string tension so it was easier for him to fret. He would also mainly play power chords (the three low notes of a chord) which are not major or minor. Put that together with gain and distortion and you have metal.

Iconic Sabbath. My uncle gave me this album when I was 13. It was 1974. Still have it.

Black Sabbath was the first album I bought at a tag sale when I was around 10 years old. Been a fan since. Over 40 years now I have been cranking Sabbath up.

The detuning of the guitars is primarily due to the Guitarist "Toni Iommi" losing the ends of his fingers in an industrial accident. he fashions leather ends for his finger tips, and thus needed to tune his guitar lower to allow him to bend strings and play correctly. That accident staged the sound of Hard Rock and Metal for years to come..

Fun fact; Tony Iommi was riding in Bonham's new Lambo early morning before sunrise when John ran it up on an island in a turnabout in UK. Bonham laughing says we should get a drink at the nearby pub. Tony said it's morning, nobody is there. John pounding the door is greeted by a bewildered owner in his pajamas and refused them. John offered to buy it and made a great offer. The owner sold and John asked he start pouring, which he did. Tony was a great friend but never let John drive him again.

One of the heaviest riffs ever and a.killer song from an album that set a standard that few approach. Master of Reality spawned metal genres like Doom and Stoner Rock and is yet another forever album. You need to Hear the whole album starting with Sweet Leaf ASAP LOL! Enjoy. 🎵🎸🎤🎶

Geezer Butler's lyrics paired with Ozzy's incredible delivery was a powerful combination! Geezer at one point was considering joining the Priesthood from what I heard, which might explain why they constantly talk about religion. I think you guys will also love Orchid/Lord Of This World from the same record...and if not, Snowblind from Vol. 4 (my fave Record) would be great also, good one guys!

You guys could go through the original Sabbath albums. They made 8 albums with the original lineup. You could at least go through the first 6, which are universally seen as their best albums and all classics.
Never say Die and especially Technical Ecstasy were actually pretty good albums, just not classic Black Sabbath. Tony Iommi was trying to take the band in a more progressive direction, which didn't sit well with a lot of Sabbath fans.
@@mikeb3835 when they were remastered for the Black Box, those last two albums definitely grew in stature, especially Never Say Die!

Black Sabbath acquired the bad-boy rep from parents and puritans back in the day. They are all "good" Catholic boys, even on stage they all wear crosses.

Hey guys, love your channel, Army vet, and retired 30+ years from broadcast radio, mostly what's now called "Classic Rock" but back when this was new, we just called it Rock, Heavy Metal wouldn't be termed until sometime much later, that being said, they definitely started the slog toward the heavy metal sound, I'm thrilled that you see the band as we did, all we wanted was peace et al, and these guys brought attention to what was going on in the world, at that time, wars in 'Nam, and college campus' becoming the center for change, even perhaps, a revolution...Sabbath will always be in the upper echelon's of Rock Music. Rock ON!!!

I get the biggest kick out of watching you guys as you're listening to Black Sabbath. I've watched all your vids with this band. I'm 62, and Black Sabbath made a huge impact on me when I was around 18/19 y/o. I would sit and smoke weed listening to them, lol! And all the things you guys are saying about them is all the same stuff I would have said back in the day, and still say now! It's so cool to see how a band that made such an impression on me is making a similar impression on you! I wonder if you guys are taking a couple of puffs before you listen? LOL! Anyway, thanks for what you're doing. It really does bring me joy! Keep on!
I get the oxymoron reference. When I was a little kid in the early 80’s I would sit in my basement in the dark and listen to Ozzy’s Diary of a Madman on Vinyl with headphones. My mom thought I was worshipping the devil. Turns out he was talking about mental health and somehow I understood that but did not have the vocabulary to say that. Lol 🤘🏼😎
You can really hear the swing jazz groove in this song coming through with Bill Wards drumming and Geezer butlers bass lines.

A note on the name. The boys were horror movie fans and the band took its name from a 60's horror movie of the same name. They didnt dig the usual hippy peace sound so they came with the same message disguised in darkness. I have always likened them to what use to be called "Hellfire Preachers" who scared you straight. I've probably watched this reaction 10 time. For one, I like you guys. Two, Imagine being the producer the first time he heard these guys and trying to figure the mix to make them sound their best. Being godfathers of Metal nobody heard anything like this. Props to the producer for taking a chance on what would be one of the most iconic bands in history.

What I loved about them then was what they were doing on their first few albums in '70 and '71, as compared to other music. Go listen to some of those Top 100 songs from 1970 and 71.

Paraphrasing here, Ozzy once said Tony was the riff master, and just when he thought Tony would come up with the greatest riff ever, he would come up with an ever better one.
So uncoventionally great! Image being 12 and hearing this and NEVER hearing anything like it before.....EVER. To see them and Ozzy like for 40 years id say that band and ozzy rocks. Lol comment. Ozzy blasting the chick's with a water gun hooked to a hose was classic. Wet t shirts everywhere but it was 103 that day at ozfest Boston outdoors 10 hrs long 17 bands and they were last. saw B.S. a few times on their LAST tour lol

I was 17 in 1971, and I heard the Paranoid Album, and it was clear this was something new and completely different. Followed them their whole career. I cannot describe what it was like hearing them for the first time. It was an amazing almost spiritual experience.

As someone commented earlier, Tony Iommi suffered an injury to his right hand, his fretting hand, and in order to make it easier to play, Sabbath tuned down to C# standard tuning, and sometimes would drop the low C# to B for open B tuning... The result is that heavy, muscular tone you hear from "Masters of Reality" forward...
Ozzy Geezer Tony and Bill. Scrappy back street boys from the filthy post-war industrial north of England invented their own type of music and nobody did them better than them. Still hits you all these years later.

My Jr and Sr year in high-school me and my buddy Robert (God rest his soul) on Friday nights would get in his little 2 seat Toyota pickup that he had decked out with a top notch stereo system and 6 speakers and we would roll up the window's crank this song (on cassette) up and fire up a fat one and smog out. Ozzie had a thought one day when everything they tried wasn't working so Ozzie says let's play scary music everybody goes to see scary movies so they did and it worked. But how many bands could come up with something like this?

Back then on weekends there was a show called king biscuit flower hourthey would play new releases the entire album with the band sitting with the DJ talking about the album. It was very cool
Because we had the oppertunity to record the whole album.
