  • While it is hindered by a substantial flaw, I'd consider the Honda CR-V as a step forward for small Crossover-kind and my personal favorite. Today I will highlight the main reasons why that is, why it may not be for you and what's new! Main competition for the Honda includes cars like the Mitsubishi Outlander, Nissan Rogue, Mazda CX-5, Subaru Forester, VW Tiguan and Toyota RAV4!

      I feel that, I love the cx-5 and its firm yet reproductive ride, but I do find the CR-V to handle almost as well while having much better seats and practicality than the CX-5. The hybrid also makes it more efficient and powerful (when comparing it to the non-turbo). The CX-5 is a better value, more fun, and packs better features but the Honda is insanely well-rounded, which is what probably resonates more in the compact crossover world and why I'd call it the top dog but I can see why some may want more spice or amenities from it, especially at the price!

      Mediocre is a bit dramatic, I feel like I've read just as many owner complaints with the Mazda 2.5L engines and 6 speed auto for things like oil consumption, cracked blocks and transmission failure (cx-5 transmission chirp), none of which seemed widespread enough for me to call the Mazda unreliable. With Honda selling 300k plus units, the numbers of reports being small is impressive. Regardless, I'm always wanting more info so if you have sources, I'll check them out! I'm disappointed in some basic short-cuts taken by Honda. Feels like they put the lower case "U" into SUV. No spare tire in the hybrid, and your competitors manage to do this. A tire repair kit doesn't fix a bigger leak and not everywhere has cell or rapidly available response. The reduction in towing capacity on the hybrid to 1,000 lbs (1,500 for the 1.5L) is worst in class. And you can't get fog lights (standard on almost every Subaru). For me, the whole point of this kind of vehicle is to try to achieve all-weather capability in a comfortable highway cruiser that doesn't break the bank to operate. I get it, that if I want "real" off road capability, there are better choices. But for year-round commuting in rain, snow, fog, etc, and enough utility to do some towing (competitors are 1500 lb and up), this makes the CRV a stretch. Every choice in the class will have some trade-offs, and it feels like most of the driving dynamics are pretty buttoned down here with the hybrid. But I don't feel great about the lack of a spare, nor do I want to purchase an aftermarket spare and strap it into my rear cargo area. The history of repair issues ("which have been addressed") is troubling from a company that was once synonymous with near bullet proof quality. Then to slap the most premium pricing on it. They are certainly going to sell a lot of these, but from this former Honda guy (owned 4 for a combined 30+ years), it feels like they have lost their way a bit.

  • @garystar1592
    @garystar1592 8 месяцев назад +3

    Avoid the CRV! Easy to steel, 1.5 turbo failure in cold weather, smell of gas in the cabin, NORMAL according to the dealer...the list goes on.

      I understand the worry but owner satisfaction rates and Consumer reports reliability surveys would disagree on it being a big problem still. My peace on oil dilution is in this one but some dealers definitely rubbed owners the wrong way, especially with how they’ve dealt with owners who did have problems with it.

      @@jacobkummer2067 I disagree. While the exteriors of Tucson/Sportage turn heads, the interiors are truly more reminiscent of luxury class vehicles. The CR-V is also lacking the options of a 360 degree camera, panoramic sunroof, and those black leather seats aren’t ventilated. Lots of people won’t be too thrilled with having to wipe their crotch on those hot summer days. Nor will backseat passengers be very happy in cold climates without heated rear seats.
      In terms of reliability, Honda certainly carries that better reputation. All things considered though, who would truly be happy in a vehicle that lacks so much for years upon years going forward. I wouldn’t even be happy in it for a day 😉
