I appreciate your comments from 13:30-14:10. I’ve been struggling focusing on one specialty skill at a time and find myself bouncing around between GRC, networking, SOC, etc. The generalist” approach is appreciated because without any prior IT/Cybersecurity experience, all of these specialty fields seem attractive, but I have a fear of getting “pigeon-holed” in one area…then finding out I don’t really like that specialty or I’m “stuck” in that career path. However, I know I just need to focus on one thing at a time if I want to make any true progress and stop overthinking this career change. GRC Mastery is my first milestone I want to complete soon. Hope that all made sense. Thanks for the great content!
great approach, keep it up 👏🏻
This is very useful for someone starting in Cybersecurity. I am in my 20s and was thinking of getting into a technology-based world, I think I found my path to a successful tech career. You should do more of this topic on becoming a SOC analyst and how to advance one's career. Big up man love our content.

I'm currently attempting your 6 month roadmap you talked about recently, starting with Google cert, the security+, etc. Maybe after security+ i should take the lets defend course and apply for jobs? Your vids are very relaxing due to your chill demeanor and voice. I shall continue watching :)
Which video is the one with the roadmap ?
@christophergopeesingh5967 it's like "if I could start over and learn cyber security in 6 months" or something like that. It's from maybe a month or so ago now. Hope this helps :)
I would start applying straight away! I explained it in this video:

@UnixGuy I've been studying python and machine learning for months alongside with google cybersecurity certificate. I have a question is the machine learning specialisation enough for a cyber sec ?. I want to apply machine learning in cybersecurity
Depending on your company, it can be partly due to Ai. I got laid off after 3 years with a company. Part of it is because they were starting to automate the initial triaging we performed on alerts coming into SOC
sorry to hear about the lay off :(
Great, love from India 😊
🤝🏻
I am doing your 6 months roadmap and I am on the 4th module on the Google cybersecurity certificate. When do you recommend to do this course? And do you recommend to do GRC mastery first and this training course?
yes GRC Mastery first then this :)
Great video! I have finished Google cert and currently studying for Sec+ now. I’m wondering if I should go for THM first or Lets Defend for SOC analyst role. Which one should I go for?
both are great choices! start with letsdefend and see how you go
I found LetsDefend more begginer friendly.
Hi UnixGuy, I know you been exposed to applicants resumes. Is it possible where you can help your community by reviewing some of our resumes, or show us examples of how to create resumes base upon no job experience but practice on sites like LetsDefend, HTB and THM or home labs targetting the 3 biggest roles people are searching for such as SOC analyst, Pen tester and GRC. Also a video of you would creating a resume from start to finish based on what I said would also be appreciated. Love your videos, keep it going!
👍
Finally started HTB CDSA last month after dragging my feet since last year and I must say it is entirely different to what Im used to: studying multiple-choice exam materials. It's more challenging yes and could take me months to finish since I am a beginner but I already feel better with this track you've put me on.
When I do conclude CDSA do you think it's necessary to do LetsDefend or TryHackMe SOC courses?
glad to hear that and this is precisely why I always recommend practical training, you’ll be so much more confident!
as for what to do next, it depends on your goal! if you’re doing my 6-months roadmap video, look into GRC Mastery to broaden your skills or you could sign up to letsdefend making use of this discount and practice with their soc monitoring or other courses :)
@UnixGuy much appreciated Cap'n
Thank you so much, very useful... Please can you give a guideline on how someone can use let's defend to land a SOC Job within 1 month and the person already has the Google cybersecurity certificate
that’s not how hiring works :) watch this:
ruclips.net/video/2RfwwlbQecs/видео.html
Im current starting my IT journey. Work is going to pay for certifications for comp tia ITF, A+, NET AND SEC +. So starting there then going to figure out which route i want to go
good luck!
Hands-on training is indeed a crucial pillar for the job hunt, I'm primarily focusing on that while taking 2-3 "highly recognized" credentials like Sec+ to bump up my resume. What do you think of this strategy? (given that I live in an area where hiring is based on pieces of paper)
not the strategy that I recommend
I am doing your 6 months roadmap and I am on the 4th module on the Google cybersecurity certificate. When do you recommend to do this course?
at the very end! after GRC Mastery and before tryhackme
Thank you for your genuine support to new people entering into these cyber security. Do you any good Operational Technology (OT) cyber security training courses ? I work for an energy company and they have a cyber security team and i wanted to do some good OT Cyber trainig. So I could eventually move into the OT security team.
unfortunately there are no good OT training around. your best bit is to be a good well rounded cyber professional and pick up OT as you go
@UnixGuy I have completed, certified in CC from ISC2 and now pursuing Google Cyber Security certification.
Any suggestions on where you list it on your resume? Education?
look at where it’s located in the free template that I provided :) it can go before or after experience (for beginners put it before expeirence if it is relevant)
@@UnixGuy Thank you very much.
Going to go through this but I want to pick up security plus then do these labs. I like the part on picking up SOC tickets. I work in a NOC and the ISP i work for has Cyber security jobs but I've been working their for almost 20 years and wanted a change... Or maybe its easier to just do a lateral move.
you’ll enjoy it!
Can you do a Network security engineer path?
👍
Good morning from Texas! What is the difference between the LetsDefend SOC learning path and the HackTheBox academy SOC learning path? Any specific reason you recommend the former? Thank you for your help!
I recommended both in different videos, they’re both good quality and similar
Please make a video on "zero to cloud security engineer" and "zero to application security engineer" with every resource and courses includes ... please sir
I have made both those videos already, browse through and find them :) I will make updated versions soon
In your opinion do you find college worthwhile if you want to enter this field?
it’s not a must but it can help in some cases! follow the plan in the video and you can do college part time on the side
Hello Unix,
How would you compare LetsDefend SOC analyst to THM SOC 1? Do you think one is enough since both of their contents is similar?
yes both are great
Hi @UnixGuy, Should I need to pay for all these learning paths separately or if I take one annual subscription, can I do the 3 learning paths cyber security for students, SOC analyst path and SOC monitoring to practice?
read the description of each subscription tier (vip and vip+ and read what they cover)
Real stupid question. How would one list bug bounty hunting on resume? And how said experience can help with getting a cybersecurity job?
Use chatgpt the same way I used it in the video, just ask it about bug bounty :)
Can you share CV template for us so we can take example how it looks like. Thank you so much.
watch the video, i provided you a link to download it in the video :)
Recently following your videos. I see that companies around me still look for certifications. Can the letsdefend training passively prepare me for those certifications? Or should I also look for proper certification training course? I am looking at comptia security+ and cysa
they actually have cysa training in letsdefend! check it out

Try Hack Me - SOC Level 1 & 2
those are all great courses and I’ve recommended them in the past
