    Interesting method. Seems secure.
I saw a video of a young man melting hot glue, where you place your pad, then close the upper onto the lower and wait till it cools. Instant wedge.

one of my uppers has a hole for a set screw to adjust it to take up the slack.
But that would mean drilling and tapping a hole on the ones that didn't come with one.
If it's 1/4-20 you could use a plastic toilet seat screw.
You can get other plastic screws in other sizes... but I have toilet seat screws in my bins if leftover parts from other projects.

Do these rubber shims make it hard to move the takedown pin later on (when taking it apart in the field)?

A belt sander or bench grinder is a great way to shape rubber. Just be careful not to let it get wedged between the abrasive and the guard.

Absolutely nothing except a means to make sure the upper and lower mate as tightly as possible.

Agreed. I've since started skipping the glue, and simply cutting the rubber wedge a little big and wedging it down in there so it's TIGHT and won't come loose.

How cheap do you have to be to avoid a $2 part? Yes, $2 on Amazon.

Thanks for commenting. As I noted in the video, this isn't worth doing unless you have a bunch of ARs.

You can buy 10 generic accu wedges for around $10.
The problem is I only need one.
