The Knight's Armament SR-15 is perhaps one of the best fighting carbines currently being made. The SR-15 is joined by many other great manufacturers that have also made improvements to the AR-15 system such as LMT and HK. The KAC SR-15 is well gassed for combat loaded ammunition, reliable and sports a cold hammer forged barrel. In my testing over the years I've found it to be an ideal rifle in every way.

To get my sr15 to run steel ammo I did this one simple trick, armorers hate it:
Load it with steel ammo.
Yep
Mine won't lol
All my AR's run steel cased ammo. My R gun that used to have was the worst though. Constant jams and cases stuck in the chamber followed by my Ruger AR556. Since I've replaced the Ruger barrel and sold the R gun, I have AR's that all run steel cased ammo. They should since I've purchased thousands and thousands of rounds of steel cased ammo over the past few years. I still cry when I think back to the late winter of 2019 when I bought 3k rounds of Barnaul 62 sp from SGAMMO as an exclusive for $800 shipped. Can't even touch a thousand rounds for half that now unless it's Tulammo on sale and it's still $380-430 shipped, let alone 3k rounds. fuck Joe Biden, fuck the rona beer, fuck BLM, fuck the leftist, for rioting and trying to implement gun control leading to this ammo shortage. I feel better now 👍
Imagine that 🤔
“R” gun ?
For all the not cool flannel bros, “SR” stands for “sertified ripper” and the 15 stands for how many cougars it can pull at once at the range. Now y’all know.
Thanks for the heads-up sir! You are a gentleman, and a scholar!

I have run KAC rifles for almost 20 years. Mod 0, Mod 1s and Mod 2s. Once the guns are broken in a bit, Steel is not an issue. I have run tens of thousands of rounds of Wolf and Tula through my SR-15s over the last 2 decades in training classes, practice and just shooting for fun. All 16" guns so maybe its an issue with the carbine gas systems in short barrels? I always heard people complain about not running steel but never seen it first hand with my rifles. I have a 11.5" Mod 2 on order.

And if you don't mind me asking, how and where are you able to actually obtain an SR-15, let alone multiple ones? I would love to purchase one myself and they are always sold out in every configuration and every part. Thank you in advance.

My ethos for SHTF was to only get what I can carry on foot and what would have the most widely common ammo. I’ve bought a Glock 9mm pistol (I’m sure there’s haters and fan boys alike…my purchase was based on the 9mm round being insanely common and glock having a ton of tested work and price).
I’ve bought a 590a1 12g (in whichever form my inner tinkerer is for that day. Pistol grip, talon grip, 6 position.damn pirate gun haha
But now that I’m looking for a star…head of the class rifle, you got me stuck. I’m definitely going with an ar-15 5.56x45 nato rifling…I was into the DDM4V7 til you talked about all the gases. But KAC would go against my ethos of “easy ammo”. I can’t afford, nor would I be able to scavenge mil-spec ammo to run it all the time. It’s awesome if you are military and that’s what’s given toya but in a shtf scenario you find a starved out, passed human with a backpack full of various 5.56 and 2.23 ammo…I’d like to be able to use that ammo if necessary. Someone who read all this bs I type to let me know which brand rifle has the resume of these KAC’s (reliability is #1 on defense weapon purchases.) while being able to fire a spitball if I stick it in? I guess blowback gases etc will be as mitigated as much as possible (SureFire RC2) and just have to be a reality in my life?

Some of you guys are taking it too literal. I was just making a joke.
10:46 They cryogen treat the barrel to fully relieve internal stresses and they lap the barrel after chrome lining it. That removes the harmonic irregularities left by the hammer forging (which often reduces accuracy) and removes the surface irregularities which ordinarily reduce accuracy with chrome lined barrels. It's not magic, it's gunsmithing: it just happens to be the case that both processes are high investment methodologies (one in equipment, the other in time) which make them cost prohibitive. Which is one of the big reasons why KAC rifles cost as much as a kidney.
Do you know if knights hf barrels are made in house?
@@sackychin6267 I think they're ordered from somewhere else, but it's been probably 10 years since I looked into it. If I bought one it would be only for the gas system. I think next they should improve other aspects like semi ambi lower to a true ambi lower much like the newer PWS lowers whose bolt catch/release and mag release are mirrored on either side. The mk2 reciever on the BCM is a nice touch moving the forward assist up closer to the bolt making more room for the hands to manipulate the charging handle and of course have a ambi charging handle. Raptor radians are nice but I like the newest BCM 4x4. It's pretty low profile for an ambi.

@@oldscratch3535 there’s a lot of proprietary parts on the PWS as well. I don’t regret buying my PWS but KAC is the head of the class imo.
I don't think it'll really matter. Unless you're gonna be shooting a shit ton of ammo, and I mean a shit ton or you're using this rifle as a duty gun for your job, any good quality AR will do. I don't think you can go wrong with a Ballistic Advantage, Criterion, FN, Faxon, DD, and BCM barrels. For BCG's I prefer Aero Precision, Sharps, BCM, and my favorite, HM Defense. Pair that up with a good lower parts kit and good receivers, you'll have a pretty damn good rifle. Only way I see someone wearing one of.those barrels out is if you constantly mag dump a shit ton steel cased ammo with bi-metal projectiles. I won't be little someone for going more budget with PSA or BCA, ect, but those companies have less QC than the others so one cannot get frustrated when or if something fails. It is what it is.

That ejection pattern and the fact they can't even stake a gas key correctly says otherwise.
12:40 This is an inherent fault with the AR-15, a longer bolt travel behind the magazine would eliminate this issue. If you look at a lot of other rifles, amongst them the AK, you will note that there is a lot of bolt travel behind the magazine where as the AR bottoms out almost immediately behind the magazine. This means that other guns can function with different power ammunition without bottoming out, ie. being over gassed, or short stroking, ie. being undergassed, while the AR can handle a more narrow power range.
Surefire bolt addresses this issue.

"Double taps" were just a training thing that kind of became a "tactic" on accident but with 556 its just not very realistic. Really 3-5 rounds are what it typically is gonna take with the pea shooter all 556 rifles are.

*** Note: Eugene Stoner would be proud that the last touches he did while working at Knights Armament to fine tune the SR is still unmatched even by todays standard as far as AR platforms are concerned. This 70 year old design is no match for the SCAR 16 but if you only want AR then KAC is the best of the best.
That would be a great great video but it would have to be for "from the factory" stock AR15 platforms. Otherwise, there would be too much variation and an endless amount of possible upper/lower combinations/builds.
But DeWalt is owned by Black & Decker
@@michaelnapier566 yes but there is still a parts and quality difference
Good shot. Outstanding..any tips for beginners
Everyone loves a nice long kac, they just feel good in the hands. Just can’t wait to pull my kac out at the range and just start squeezing off shots down range…great name
I've always wondered where KAC got their HF barrels . I know back in the day they used Diemaco barrel blanks ..
Centurion is my favorite HF barrels . Love their MIDWEIGHT HF. They use tapered bore for insane accuracy..
I agree totally LMT , KAC are some of the best out there . LMT , KAC , Centurion and Colt / C.C. / Diemaco are my personal favorites ..
From all accounts, Diemaco makes the best CHF Barrels ever for an M4 platform. I used to think LMT made Knights barrels, but the MARS system uses button cut/chrome lined version. They also aren't as accurate as the Sr15. Supposedly LMT makes the Knights BCGs, which are almost identical to each other.
@@jackbauer4186 LMT used to make a lot of KAC parts . Unknown how many parts they still make .
Yeah I've always loved Diemaco and FN HF barrels .
Theres only handful of HF barrel machines for Carbine / Rifles in North America .
I wouldn't be surprised if it was FN or Colt Canada but I honestly have no clue.
@@seanwhite304 I know FN makes a lot of higher end companies' barrels because they have so mich capacity and machining capabities for CHF barrels. They make Spikes and a few other brands' barrels, but I always heard they weren't that accurate (especially the sub-moa that KAC barrels are getting), but the will last forever, which is why the military likes them. I know DD supposedly makes their own HF barrels, which are quite accurate, and supposedly Geissele makes their own as well (although I have my reservations that DD may be making them). Bcm may have their own HF machines as well. Someone is also probably making LWRC nitrided HF barrels.
@@jackbauer4186 FN makes HF barrels for Noveske , Hodge , BCM , Centurion , Spikes , PSA and quite a few others. Centurion HF barrels are insanely accurate due to tapered bore design.
I only have experience with FN and DD HF Barrels . I've heard as you stated Geissele makes their own HF barrels but I have not seen or used one yet .
Ruger has been making HF barrels for long time as well . I'm also pretty sure LWRCI makee Nicor / Nitride HF barrels too . I honestly did not know Geissele HF barrels were Nitride until recently.
I've personally seen SUB MOA accuracy with Centurion , Hodge , and DD MK12 HF barrels . I'm sure theres others .
I used to own Legacy Model KAC 14.5 Upper that used Diemaco Barrel Blanks . That gun was not SUB MOA at all but it didn't need to be . I've only seen online how insanely accurate the newer KAC barrels are . I'd freaking love to own KAC SR16 11.5" Secret Service Upper . They had them for sale year or two ago and I missed out .
Colt aways used different vendors for parts and pretty much everthing in a Colt was milspec. Ironically many a Colt barrel was made by Green Mountain and they all shot fairly well. You don't need a HF barrel to shoot well. In fact, most match barrels are cut or button rifled. I happen to have an AR I built with a NOS USGI FN M16a2 barrel and it approaches .5moa w good handloads rested gently on sandbags.
Man, as much as I love everything about your videos its the cinematic intro that gets me! Your movement combined with the excellent camera work and how it all ties together with the soundtrack nails it! , and you're just shooting at targets! 10/10
Do you know what is the soundtrack called?

Awesome video. Thanks
one of the only qualms I really have with an AR15 platform is really pretty much everything the AR18 platform fixes. I like my charging handle forward, and I like to be able to equip side folding or even MPX/MP5A3/MP7 style collapseable stock or "brace" if I wanted.
Ar is trash
Mad respect for the ending statement. I always appreciate the generous discloser prior to reviewing something. Keep em coming 🤙 building basically the same thing out of a ws-mcr in 5.56 due to being a Canadian but eh, it works 🍻

I just have a 14.5" Geissele Super Duty. It's been outstanding and I've been pretty darn happy

Genuine question. The Kac suppressor has more surface area cooling off faster and not glowing like a glow stick under nvg as much. Would a liberty’s defense suppressor cover decrease the heat signature of a suppressor under nvg? Is there any downside to using a cover?
There’s a reason why TF 69 doesn’t run them, I just don’t know why.
Thank You for the info
Finally, a video playing with your KAC.
😳
I’m glad I bought my 3 KACS, before the price surge. At the time I was questioning the expense. Many months later the price doesn’t matter. It’s the extreme quality that gives peace of mind. I would prefer to have less things of great quality, than an abundance of things that are mediocre, or cheap. Buy once, cry once and smile forever.
If you run Ambi safety try mounting the right side so it up towards the forward assist you can sweep it forward with trigger finger . It feels more natural works for me anyway.
Oh, didn’t see yuh there haha classic commercial/sponsor intro. Nailed it 😂👍🏼
Got blown up in 2013, Afghanistan. The blast broke my left ankle and it was literally at a 90° angle with only my boots keeping it from dangling.
Doc: Here some ibuprofen and drink some water
True story.
Still love ya doc 😂
Took it like a champ brother. I was born in Russia but American now. Appreciate you fighting for me and all of us.
I do believe you. I have experienced similar situations and docs love to give grunts ibuprofen. 👍

Similar story here except blew out my knee. Saw the Kinda-Doc-But-NOT-REALLY-A-Doc and he gave me two ibuprofen and said (I shit you not) "get back to work and stop with the Slacker shit."
Fuck me Running!
Was back in his Circus Tent 8 hours later as I couldn't walk and my leg was black and blue from ass cheek to ankle.
Saw the same Wannabe Doc (PA, actually), dropped trow and said "Do you REALLY think I'm 'slackin' Doc?!?"
His face got ashen and gave me 2 friggin' days bed rest and no duty and a script for, wait for it, ibuprofen.
I ETS not much later and they give me a 10% rating. BOHICA, Right?!?
Took me 32 years and 2 lawsuits to get a knee replacement and a measly 30% rating.
FUCK the PA's in the Army.
And 10X that to the POS who refused to send me to the hospital to get my knee x-ray'd and fixed THEN.
But ibuprofen is your friend.
at the end you always say that training is the most important, the question is, how do i train the right way? i would like to see a vid about that from you. anyways great vid as always
@@southern842 the thing is, im Czech, and most of the courses here are super expensive or they just suck monkey balls. There is this one group called hardtask that trains army and police guys and they do classes for civilians as well, so I think that ill go with them.

Step One: Hijack an Ammo Truck filled to the brim on its way to make a delivery.
Step Two: Hide for 3 years with the packed trailer hidden underground.
Step Three: Take out 2 boxes of ammo a month to shoot. For the rest of your life or wait until the Great Ammo Shortage of 2018 to 2050 is finally over.
Step Four: Learn to reload and make sure to pick up ALL your brass and manufacture your own bullets.
That's all it takes.
OR....Sit on GD's street and wait to hijack the UPS driver as he makes a delivery GD's house.

Nasty setup 🔥🙌
Okay, so the barrel has some kinda vudu that provides great accuracy after volumes amounts of rounds. The sealed-up tight gas system is cool too. I'm scratching my head over why the idea of rounded lugs that can more easily return to battery is SUCH a sophisticated engineering feat. Does KAC have that patented or something? Why don't more manufacturers do that?

Some Do, they’re not the only company that does this…I have an aftermarket BCG that did the same thing in their process.

Love the lanscape. Sexy range.
I waited three months for mine after putting an order in. Shipped direct from KAC's factory to my FFL. Worth the wait, worth the money. I'd say KAC and Noveske make some of the best complete builds out there.
