@@PLArseneau I use an FD to XF adapter for my fuji. But I have also been thinking of the same thing for the couple of FD lenses I have. I'd like to use them on my Canon 90D without having to get another adapter. But adapters are cheaper than conversion kits, I think. Anyway, nice video.
I have to say i stop by , randomly tansk to youtube algorithm but i have to say this video is pretty nice comparison with all the good FD lenses . really thanks for this .
@@PLArseneau got 135 f3.5 and 50 1.4 and i love their imperfections . the 135 on gh5 was a saver . WHen i had to shoot a big esport event , i wanted a zoom but no money to put on big lenses , so i search on to this find a 135 .f3.5 and damn in video it was so nice for 50 $ . and on gh5 it was more like a 200 mm .
Beautifull set! Noteworthy that the bmpcc has a crop factor of 42% with the speedbooster. 17 mm is 24 mm equivalent and the 85 is 120 mm. This is why I chose the fuji X-T4 since it will have a fullframe equivalent with the speedbooster (actually a 7% crop) as well as the extra stop of light. I love the look i get with the 50 mm 1,4 ssc and 35 mm ssc f2!
I have the the metabones ultra 0.71 EF version. If I used an fd to ef adapter will that still work well on my bmpcc4k or do I actually need to purchase the metabones fd to m43?
Nice test. I have the same set plus the 100 macro, 135 and 200 f4. I wonder about your 17mm being soft. F4 is usable but it can be incredibly hard to get critical focus as the super wide angle kinda fools the focus peaking. Any thoughts on your usage with the 17? I have only used mine a handful of time (as I just got it in). Do you generally only use it outdoors? F11 seems pretty rough to manage indoors!
Yeah I still use it a ton, but I think my particular copy is quite soft unfortunately. I think the FD/thorium version is a tad sharper than the nFD that I have. Regardless, I use these mostly for their wide open soft and distinct look for commercials and music videos, so I'm not too worried. You're right about focus peaking tho. You almost need to focus by feel.
@@PLArseneau Focus by feel - yes, it seems so. On static scenes, it is fine as I punch in on the monitor, but for more complex camera moves that require rack focus I tend to just switch to the 24mm. I am shooting a short film with these FD's for the first time next month. Camera tests have been pretty fun. Much different feel from the modern Sony GM and Zeiss glass I have been using! Something about these FD's feels so right in a narrative context.
The Tokina AT-X Pro 17mm f3.5 is a great replacement for the 17 FD and much cheaper. It doesn’t have a rotating front element so you can use it with a matte box, sharper, less distortion. I got the Nikon AI-S version and swapped the mount to EF. Don’t miss my 17 FD one bit.
Great question, I wanted to keep the aperture as low as possible. Turns out the speedbooster let's in a lot more light than expected. So instead of closing the lenses down to f8 per say, I tried keeping them at f2 through the whole test.
Great video and set of lenses! Is the the 35mm Concave the SSC version? If so, did you have any issue with the Concave being warmer/yellow compared to the other lenses? It looks matched in the video, but wasn't sure if it was the color grade. Thanks!
Really great stuff here. Love FD glass. Thanks for sharing!
Love this! FD's are my favorite lenses. Thanks for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it Ryan! They have a sweet spot in my heart as well... I love the look on modern sensors.
Useful test. And lovely music, by the way. Reminds me of Michael Dyanna.
Very nice video! I love lens tests like this
Really nice video. This FD glass is great. I watched in Vimeo too. Good stuff. 👍👍
Thanks Sean! I do like them a lot. Thinking about converting them to EF so I can use them on more cameras.

@@SeanMiller318 100%, the EF adapters are criminal garbage though. Be careful.

It must be a very nice look! 50mm looks amazing on full frame equivalent!
I also have a bmpcc 4k Looking to buy a canon fd 70-210mm f.4 what type of adapter would I need ?
MFT to FD Speedbooster. I have one for sale if you need one. It allows more light and better field of view.

@@PLArseneau what iso did you use
Iso 400 all the way through!
Hello. Very good! What adapter do you recommend? for a BMPCC 6K pro and FD lens set? and not lose focus at infinity. Thanks for the information!!

You need to conver them by simmod
just a tip, you can upload in 4k or at least 1440p so RUclips encodes your video in a higher bitrate
Yeah I noticed that after. I did link a Vimeo link in the description tho.

It is yes! It's about 800 kelvin warmer. It was adjusted in the grade.
@@PLArseneau Ok good to know! Thanks, great channel, man!
You can de-yellow thorium lenses with the JANSJÖ LED lamp or one similar. Just don’t put your lens in the sun to UV treat it.
Nice lens set!!! Tnxxx
No worries ! My pleasure.
