- Drone flight along a section of the Sustrans coast to coast cycle route.
From Stanhope (Parkhead Station) to Stanley, Co Durham.
The longer sections have been speeded up to 3X but it's still quite a long video.
Flown in June 2020 over several days.
The video has a few aberrations that I wasn't able to fix

I enjoy these journeys so much. Being so far above everything and everyone makes my own life feel smaller, yet more connected in a way.
Thanks for watching and leaving a comment Jamie.
I’ve cycled this track for decades now and this great drone footage has shown me many features off the side that I didn’t know existed! I’ve made a mental note of them and will be doing a bit of exploring very soon.
Cheers 👍
Me too Tony and, what you say is true of many the videos I make, I’ve rode, driven or walked right past so many things just a few yards away with no idea they were there until I got the drones.
@@assessorjohn yes, I'll watch more of your videos and see just what I've been missing!
Cheers 👍
Excellent work John. Most enjoyable.
Thanks Michael :)
Thanks John, this was one of my favourite MTB training rides while I lived in Durham City, so many memories :)
Thanks for watching and leaving a comment Robert. Done it a few times myself, lovely route. I'm so pleased you enjoyed the video - with all it's rough edges!
Hi John. Nice carming drone video. Just what people
Need at the moment. Thank you. Old dave.
Thanks Dave, it’s really great that a few people enjoy these videos, it’s for quite a small audience but I enjoy making them.
Stunning footage as usual John. I know that track very well but seeing it from this perspective really adds to how stunning those moors are. I always enjoy your footage & regularly rewatch many of them so thanks for posting this up.
Thanks a lot Choke, I rode the track myself a few years ago, it’s just like you describe it, stunning. Happy to let the drone do the work now though. 🙂
Brilliant video havent done this one for couple year deffinitly going back
I've cycled most of that track on your video many times. Excellent video. Music fitting (most people's don't). Some hard work gone into this. Funny re Oystercatches. I've had my drone 6 years and the only birds ever to attack it were Oystercatchers at Bolts Law (very close to your track near Stanhope) just a few months ago. On one of my Bolts Law videos. It's a 10 from me. Well done
Thanks Neil. Quite a few have cycled that track, including me - a few years ago now though. My drone was attacked by a red kite once when I was making one the videos for the Bradley Opencast series. A couple of seagulls had a go too at North Shields. I made one about Bolts Law a couple of years ago, the old engine house I couldn't find it at first as I was searching using the drone.
@@johntwistmusic8066 what make and model of drone do you have? I've had red kites and seagulls and a multitude of other kids, unperturbed and ignored by the drone. I have a DJI Phantom 3 Advanced drone. Much heavier than the likes of the Mavik which may be a factor
@@neilwilson966 I have a Phantom 4 pro and a Mavic Platinum pro. This video was made with the Mavic.
@@assessorjohn which was attacked by the Red Kite ?
@@neilwilson966 it was the Mavic.
i just bought myself a dji mini 3 pro im trying it out tomorrow as whitburn sea front ive heard good reviews about this drone.
Maybe you should think about posting your videos on here Colin. My 'legacy' drones come under the new regulations at the end of this month, so I'll have to fly as a category 3 pilot. Maybe I should just sell them and go for something under 250grams!
Another great video John I have walked a bit of it a few times from Rowley station car park, Have you retired from green laning ? not seen any videos for a while
Thanks Guy. I’ve cycled it a few times myself. I think you’re confusing me with my eldest son, John James, he was the green laner. I’m not sure if he still goes but he has his own business now which keeps him and his wife busy.
Hi John , Great video im new to flying drones and was wondering what edit software you use as im having problems finding one ,free one would be great.
Hi Simon, thanks for watching. I use Cyberlink Powerdirector 16, Cyberlink Colourdirector and Cyberlink waveditor which come as a suite. It’s not free I’m afraid but I never really had success with Microsoft Moviemaker.
10:14 is so annoyinhg to cycle through on a long wheel base bike
thats great john, ive done that route many times on my electric bike but i noticed your colour is a bit strange in the distance is your drone camera faulty mate.
Thanks Colin. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with the camera. The footage is a couple of years old, it was recorded ‘flat’ so I get the widest dynamic range but, this sacrifices colour saturation so the finished video has to be colourised. I’m colourblind so I have to use colour presets in editing software. This one is called ‘colour pop’. Probably something to do with that.
