- Continuing through the Pennines from the Lake District on our Coast to Coast (or C2C) cycle across the whole of England! Day 3: Alston-Consett - cycling through the North Pennines.
After a great night in the Youth Hostel in Alston, we began a tough day with lots of hills. First we climbed to get out of Alston and then came down a glorious stretch… only to find we had to go straight back up a 19% incline. BOY was that steep! Possibly the hardest climb I’ve ever done on the bike…
We met a nice kid called Paul and his friend and their dads en route. He named all of our bikes - mine was crowned Milo. Not quite as cool as Neptune or Sky Racer but we can’t have everything eh?! Into Northumberland and then County Durham with some gorgeous views and infuriating pub closures in Rookhope and Eastgate. Finally we got some food in Stanhope before another gruelling climb up Crawleyside Bank - which the waitress had just told us was “basically suicide hill for cyclists”. We made it up (even the 22% incline!) and then continued along to our four star hotel, Derwent Manor, just outside Consett.
// Extra C2C info // Our route was from Whitehaven, on the west coast, to Sunderland, on the east coast. This is possibly the best C2C route, taking us through England’s Lake District National Park and the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. How long does it take to do the C2C cycle? Some people do it in a single day, whereas others take a week or more; we decided to do it over four days so we could take our time and enjoy the beauty of the areas we were cycling through!Stay tuned for more vlogs!Want to see the best places to visit in the UK? Hi my friend it is always nice to see you smiling even when the hills are so high to climb, but the down hill looked like a lot of fun. I'm enjoying your journey across your beautiful country, the views are breath taking the cute little town adorable with great food. Take care stay safe until I see your next adventure video. Big Love as always and please say hi to your Mom and Hannah for me. ;)
Oh yeah, Howard, the hills were tough this day of the trip! But all worth it in the end 😍 so glad to be sharing it with you and for you to be enjoying it so much too 😁 big love back at you from all of us on this side of the pond!
I do like the music you choose for the opening of your blogs, I love a cook breakfast to start my day. You are doing well keep it up. I do like a pub lunch. Love the scenery there man, keep it up 💯👍🏼💯👍🏼💯👍🏼💯👍🏼💯👍🏼💯💯👍🏼💯💯👍🏼👍🏼
Takes a while to get the right songs sometimes but it’s worth it!! Thanks for all of the encouragement buddy. Hope you are doing well mate 🤙🤙🤙
Nice video, a wonderful and enjoyable tour. Looks so beautiful. Thank you for sharing. Enjoy your day guys 😊
Hey! Thanks so much guys! Hope you’re doing well 😁
These videos are just so happy and fun to watch.. makes me think I can actually get out and do something like this. Would love to see you do GCNs coast to coast across hardknott
Hey! I'm sure you could - it was a great trip 🙌 is that a much more difficult route?
What a day! Looks like so much fun! 🚲
This was definitely a tough one 😅 another great day of the trip though!
Pretty sure I would've stopped on that uphill bit outside the hostel. hahaha. that decline looked so freeing! best name: skyracer. and your friend in the end looks like Captain Sinbad. haha. Nice one, Loz!
Ahaha it certainly got the heart pumping...! Best day of the trip! Cheers for watching 🤙
What a beautiful greeny view.love it
We were super lucky with the weather that day too!
Definitely my favourite day!
Such a good dayyyy
Those were astounding views,Loz!
I know right 😍 certainly felt such a privilege to do it!
@@LozsLeisure you are blessed to see it
Happy adventures and epic views!
Oh yes 😍😍😍
You were panting like a horse after that crazy incline. ❤️
I know right 😂😂😂 think it was touch and go whether I’d make it at one point 😂
Great scenery , glad you eventually found some lunch! Spent some time in Nenthead a few years back exploring the old lead and zinc mines.
Oooh yeah we saw about those! If we hadn’t been on as much of a schedule it would have been really great to explore them too! Would you recommend them?
@@LozsLeisure I'd definitely recommend a visit on one of the NMRS open days or a visit with an NMRS member. The workings are very extensive and in parts very dangerous so I wouldn't recommend entering on your own unless experienced in exploration of abandoned mines.
Ah wow me and mum want to visit Keswick we have ancestors from there going back through family history hope the trip is continuing well and the spa was good! 😂👏💖🙌
Oh really! How long ago were your ancestors living there, Eve? Thanks for watching the trip!
I was really feeling the pain of having to cycle past so many closed pubs when you’re hungry
The worsttt 😂
I think I'd have got off and pushed up that hill!
Hahaha it nearly happened a few times!
Nenthead also is home to North Pennine Cycles. And Dave, who will fix your bike if you need it on the C2C.
Great info, thanks Matty 😁🙏🚲👨🔧 thanks for watching!
Milo's a great name!
Milo's done a few miles.
(Mile-o)
Hahahaha I love it. Milo’s definitely going to stick!
More inclined uphill biking please 😂
I don't know if my heart can take it 😂
Milo the bike 😅
To be fair the name stuck 😅
Boooo closed pubs! Haha
I know right! That's no fun!
