    I noticed you can get bubbles too if you apply multiple coats without letting the previous coat dry.

      Same

      @ACWells13 5 лет назад +100

      Yes! A nail tech told me this is because the solvents from the lower layers are trying to evaporate with the heat from your body, but they're sealed in by the top layers so they just form bubbles instead

    One tip i have....don’t apply your polish really fast or really thick. I find swiping over and over quickly will form bubbles as well as applying thick coats.

    Ha, I store my polishes "dungeon style" I call it. Dark, cool & dry. I don't display any of them. That's probably why I have polishes that are 20 yrs old (no joke) and they are still good as ever.

      I worked at Walgreens in the early to late 90s while in college, and collected a lot of nail polish back then, many of which I still have! I also keep them cool, dark, and dry. You can't even tell how old some of my polishes are. I have them in drawers on my bedroom too. For now they're in Ikea Helmers, but I am switching to the Alex drawers soon.

    The humidity thing explains so much! I've been so frustrated this summer with bubbles, looking up reasons why- "applying it too thickly", tried thinner coats, got bubbles! "not letting it dry" I was leaving my nails 30 minutes between coats (binge watching TV) still got bubbles! "polish is too old" bought new shades. Bubbles galore! But this summer has been incredibly humid compared to previous years and I never used to get bubbles at all. Life saver, thank you so much. I have no aircon at home so if I find myself in this situation next year I might just treat myself to getting it done professionally oops.

    Love your videos! I have also found that that applying your coats too quickly and not letting each layer dry adequately before doing the next coat, can cause bubbles too. So can brushing the nail too many times. Just try to get it on there in as few swipes as possible.

    I tried waiting for an hour after I got a shower to dry my nails completely and I put my nail polish in the fridge for at least 30 minutes and it really worked. I waited about 10 minutes after the base coat and 20 minutes after each layer. It took all my Sunday afternoon but it was ok for me since I usually leave the Sunday afternoon for self-care and it was totally worth it. It's very hot and humid where I live and I was getting massive bubbles that looked absolutely horrifying. But after I tried those things I only got very very small one or two bubbles that you need to look very closely to see them which I can live with. And by the way, before I put the nail polish in the fridge I added some nail polish thinner because it got a bit thick last time and I was afraid that it would get worse in the fridge. And I noticed when I put the nail polish thinner and immediately use it I get bubbles, so I made sure that the nail polish waited for 30 minutes before I used it.

    Kelli, one thing I learned that also helps to not get bubbles is to wait for the previous layer of base coat/polish to dry before painting on the next coat. Since the first layer is not yet dry, it releases some “fumes” that leave the “bubbles”. That has helped me 😊

    For myself, I've found that it has less to do with the main 3 points and more to do with roughness on my nail surface. Even if they're totally clean, any amount of nail flaking - even if it's so slight that I can barely see it - results in bubbles. It's definitely not the cuticle, and base coats only make it look worse. Buffing the surface also just makes it worse, and I only went in one direction when I used to do that. So I've switched to polishes that are *not* self leveling and seen a lot of improvement.

  • @denisegerner6834
    @denisegerner6834 5 лет назад

    I've also noticed the occurrence of bubbles when I applied too thick of a coat which happens to me a lot with topcoat (especially quick dry topcoat that has thickened up a little bit too much) or when I didn't let each coat dry enough.
    I didn't think of the possibility of a fan/open window etc being an issue so thank you for mentioning that!

    The heat and humidity thing was something I wasn't aware of. The nail salon we go to also has a nail polish line of their own and I was asking the lady who runs it about making nail polish in general, and she pointed out that our Indian coastal weather (I'm from Bombay) is terrible for nail polishes. Quite an a-ha moment that was for me.

    Thank u for this. This happens to me all the time and I always blamed it on the brand of the polish, thinking it had a crappy formula.

    Also, if you apply a very thick coat of polish and you don't let it dry properly that will cause bubbles, even in the top coat

  • @joangentile2731
    @joangentile2731 4 года назад

    I do two thin coats of nail polish to prevent bubbles from forming on my nails. That seems to help to prevent the bubbles. Cleaning nails before a manicure is very important. It helps to keep the nail polish from bubbling. The humidity doesn't help, either. I have tried these remedies myself to keep my nail polish from bubbling. Just saying. Thank you, Kelli!! 😊

    Two big reasons I’ve found are the polish is too thick or you’re applying it too thickly on the nail. Thin your polish if it’s not going on smoothly and thinly. KM has a video on thinning polish. Try to apply thin coats of polish. Thick coats are more likely to have air bubbles and they take longer to actually dry between coats, which can cause bubbles. And use a quick dry top coat.

    • @KelliMarissa
      @KelliMarissa  5 лет назад +2

      That's a great tip! I use my thinner all the time - not just on old ones, but also on finicky polishes! What a difference it makes!

    I just wanted to tell you that I would never say you talk to much in your videos. I am a new subscriber and have only seen videos on your Nail Polish 101 playlist, which are pretty much just you talking, and even then I don't think you talk too much. Compared to other videos I have seen where it takes the person half the video before they finally get to the point. You don't prattle on about unrelated things. You get straight to the information that you want to tell and you keep to that topic. Besides, what good is a video that shows you all sorts of things but never, or poorly explains what it is they are showing in their video. And I happen to like the part at the end of your videos where you tell fun facts about yourself. Those tidbits of info make you relatable to your audience. So keep doing what you are doing, I am sure that if someone does not find your videos to their liking there is another channel that is perfectly suited to their taste. You subscriber count would suggest that there are a lot of people who think you are doing a superb job, and I am one that feels the same way. Have a wonderful and epic day.

    Okay I keep my home cold out of necessity. I’ve been warming my polish with my body temperature because I thought it would be too thick otherwise. Also sometimes the fam blows on them. If those changes don’t correct the bubbling then I don’t know. I have super long natural nails that I’m almost ready to gut because I’m frustrated. Thank you for the tips! I enjoy your channel!

      The quick dry top coats? They dry in reaction to air exposure. So as you deplete them more and more air enters the bottle and they dry out.

    What I did to avoid bubbles
    1. Stored nail polish in my refrigerator
    2. My hands are completely dry one hour prior painting my nails
    3. Only gave 3 strokes, one for the middle part and other two strokes for corners
    4. I've waited for 30 mins before applying 2nd layer and same 3 strokes
    Tip: do not paint your nails at night or right before sleeping, you might smudge your nail polish which happened to me. Do it in the morning so that you'll have enough time to let it dry. Hope this helps
