    man, i hated working on these things. I mustve worked on 1-200 of these things over time. Maybe more. This appears to be the post recall model where they recalled the faulty starter pulley design that did not have the hold down plate. The recall was for the rats nest you just showed with the spring!!!

    You are a life savor, I have a McCulloch silver eagle 28c and just finished installing new fuel lines and a primer pump. Was getting ready to do some trimming and it started acting really funny, long story short the throttle cable broke, I have a new one on the way. The cable looks pretty easy to install thanks to your video.

      Hope you're back to trimming soon. Thanks for comment!

      At which point do we see the threading of the new cable ? It takes a course around the recoil mechanism. The cable outer has an abutment under the recoil spring assy. Not so obvious to see.

    Great job on the video and the repair. I was hoping to get a better look at how the kill switch works on that McCulloch. Mine just came apart and I'm not sure how to get it back properly. It is simply a wire coming off the ignition component, but the funny thing is that when the red switch is pressed, the cable is not being grounded to ground, it is some other type of mechanism that i am unaware of. Perhaps you or someone else might chime in?

      I'm working off memory here (could be iffy) but I believe there's a metal contact point on the end of that red button. And then of course the wire hooks on the tab hear the coil. If the button came out of the housing that piece might be missing or broken off. Thanks for checking out the video! Good Luck on the repair! These are good little trimmers but do need some TLC.

      You're probably right about something falling out of it and getting lost. But in any case, what baffles me is that even if there is some metal washer or something like that, it would just act a wire extension on the single wire that is coming off the ignition module. I would imagine that if there were two wires coming off the module then the kill switch would act to interrupt the connectivity between those two wires, or (as in my case) if a single wire it would get grounded out. But the wire is just like an antennae held into the plastic housing, very interesting:)

    I bet this Mac weed eater would give my Husqvarna a run for it's money.

    One other question for you, what is the lube that you are using on the starter rope housing?? Thanks

      That's white lithium grease from a tube. It's what I had in front of me. Silicone spray is a good choice for this application and won't pick up as much crud. The string trimmer doesn't run in the cold or get loaded with sawdust like a chainsaw so I don't expect any problems. White lithium is good where the spring rides inside the metal drum since that's all metal to metal contact. Have Fun!

    My throttle cable broke as well. Where did you get yours from. I can't seem to find where to buy. Thanks

      I found the McCulloch parts listing on the internet and then searched for the part number. As I recall that particular throttle cable came from some dude on eBay. Once you have the part number there's one out there somewhere to be found. These are good little units worth keeping in service! Good Luck!!

    grrrrr you cut out the very part i needed to watch, the re-assembly of the recoil. mine also sprung loose and i am unsure how to wind it back on and in which direction it is meant to be wound?

    • @metalwooddesign
      @metalwooddesign  5 лет назад +1

      Wind it in the direction that makes it tighter as you pull the rope. Its' a tedious job to wind the spring. It takes a while to wind it up tight enough to fit in the drum and unless you have another set of hands that totally understand what's going on there's no way to stop in the middle. Any slip is a do over. The drum gets get slightly flared which makes the spring want to jump out. If that's the case gently tweaking it back straight (very little, very gentle) helps prevent it from wanting to move sideways and jump out again. Thanks for checking out the video and good luck! With a little TLC and a certain amount of cussing the little two smokes will keep going for years!

    Hi I just got a secondhone if these recently and I can’t find out how to remove the head I want to put on it a bush cutter blade.

    • @metalwooddesign
      @metalwooddesign  4 года назад +1

      The cutterhead is held on by a large plastic nut on the bottom that captures a bolt to hold it on. If you don't have plastic wrench that came with it, a channel-locs or large vice grip will take it off. Thanks for watching the video!

      were il could find it in canada

    • @metalwooddesign
      @metalwooddesign  7 лет назад

      It will be easiest to search for the part by the part number. www.mccullochpower.com is a good source for illustrated parts lists. It's usually easier to find them under the marketing name like Eager Beaver xxx vs a pure model number. Once you get your part number a google search hopefully turns up a few places that have one to sell in Canada. Good Luck !!

    Hi what is the red lever on the casing?

    • @metalwooddesign

      That's the ignition kill switch. It's a button, press in to stop.
