Thanks! My Cub Cadet XT-1 throttle cable broke. This helped me make a replacement very easily. These videos save weekend tinkers like me a ton of money and unnecessary downtime.
Good One Donny.....Sometimes the simplest things can be the most trouble...I use 1/8 inch Steel & Brass Rods to make my Whirligigs Mechanism and the bends are very simular so I made up some simple JIgs with Nails on my workbench , spaced just right to slip the wire in and bend it with the fixed nails, works perfect every time.
Thanks, Don. Just what I wanted to see. I have been cutting mine off with a Dremel and a cut-off wheel. I was installing the throttle assembly on the handle, measuring the length, marking it, & then cutting the sheath with Dremel while it was still attached.
Oldie but a goodie. I've got a cable just like this that seems to be stretched. There's slack in the cable. I've taken the whole mechanism apart and it's moving as much as it can. I think I'll give this a shot and see about shortening it up a bit.
very cool D: should I be able to spin the augers on a snow blower with it shut off. the spark plug wire is off of course. i tried to turn them and they wont move. do the wheels have to be off the ground or somethingj?
The throttle cable on my snowblower broke just below the z-bend attached to the lever mechanism. Now, to open the throttle, I need to force the end of the (now shortened) wire completely into the sheath. I was just going to cut the sheath to provide enough wire to make a new z-bend and re-attach it to the lever mechanism, however the sheath appears to be attached to the lever mechanism. Is this normal? It looks like a small collar that the sheath is sitting in.
I developed a kit that lets you use any motorcycle throttle or even a break lever cable as an accelerator on these engines. I'ts for use on custom made mini bikes and go karts that use these z-bend carb configurations. Installs in under a minute.
excellent video. this is sorta related question. i'm in need of the cable for this part in your video. i don't need a sheath or throttle control, so i don't want to pay 30-40 bucks for entire replacement part. can i buy an alternative cable wire anywhere, online? just need the wire. i just don't know the specific wire specs for this throttle cable. thanx a bunch
At 3:54 , was that a 6.75 HP Quantum Briggs and Stratton? I just got one of them on a pressure washer, but the connecting rod is snapped, and the oil was way too low.
Old school Donyboy!! Where does one find bulk wire like this? I need to run fresh cables on three machines so I was hoping to find a bulk roll of it. I must be Googling the wrong thing because I can’t find anything.
donyboy73 I have recently discovered silicone grease, you can get it in plumbing supplies among other places, and it's an excellent lubricant for many things except for high pressure applications like wheel bearings etc and it doesn't get washed out from water and moisture. It doesn't affect most plastics and rubbers so it's really good to use in places where it may contact these materials. It also makes a really good O ring lube and it's good for vehicle rubber and weatherstripping as it lubricates and preserves and also helps to keep weatherstripping from hardening and sticking in cold weather....A little expensive but so many uses.
I'm going to send you a picture of my snapper Briggs & Stratton engine of the throttle cable connection so you can tell me how/are what I need to make it right.
This vid is 8 years old already - What a great vid. Just what I needed. Thanks.

this guy has huge knowledge ...check his other vids...remarkable teacher...
After cutting the sheath, inspect the cut end for burrs which may drag on your throttle wire. I dress the ends with a file or grinder.
This is the way I've been doing it for 40 years and it works great!
Word of advice! Wear eye protection!
Thanks i needed this video to modify a new cable for my vintage snowblower.

@ringbolt9 noo because the shear bolts are in place holding the augers to the shaft. the only way to spin them is by removing the shear bolts
Thanks 👍 Danny you no your stuff okay Dave
Oh Dony boy I stumbled across an old one but a good one. Cheers old wise one

Thanks for the video so simpel and yet so easy and effective. Very clearley demostrated. Thank you very much. Steve
what a great simle method. this will comein handy
most small engine shops can sell you just the inner wire
You Rock Bro. Thanks for sharing.

The wire I am bending is a little bit thicker than what you're showing and I don't have a torch do you think it will work?
@Moparman58 u could but it would require the linkage to be fitted like on the older ones

Great vid, I use needle nose for my cable construction. Another challenge is bending the old metal fuel lines... Thanks
my lawnmower has no go in it I seem to be almost pushing it,if I shorten it will it go better
Good job! They can be kinda tricky. But good job.

Pongo1320 how do I get a lesson in your kit
Thanks for the useful info I always wanted to know how to do that since I can not get
the correct cable but can get a longer cable.

@ConkersBFDN64 it's an older 4hp quantum
great video easy solution I wish I knew a 1000 tricks,,hacks,,solutions
is their a way to lube the inside of this type of cable preventive maintenance?
can you put a throttle cable on an engine that wasnt desinged for it like one of the newer briggs classics
very good video. would a metal paper clip work also?
Awesome video.
Glad you enjoyed it!

Can i put some grease on the wire so it slides easier inside the sheath?
You certainly can and should, it's a great idea.
thanks for subscribing
Thanks for the information. Can you tell us that can we use this mechanism to pull and push 1 KG objects 5 cm front and 5 cm back?. thank you! :))
where to get this type of cable and sheathing?
Nice and easy thanks donyboy
I have a Troy bilt riding mower it is a clutch and throttle won't move I think it is a governor spring but I wanted to ask u
E bay 90 degree high quality 17.04 and 20.94 shipping and handling comes from the u k. Look on page 2.
@donyboy73 thats an 1986 quantum isnt it? or one of the first of its type?
if you need lead cut of a old battery post it is all lead
Can't find your next video on how to set or adjust throttle cable;
Cheers Mate.
I use to do this but I got to doing lots of them so I got me the tool to do this
Great video. Thank you
If you heat the wire it's really easy
thanx for quick response. will check :]
@donyboy73 ok thanks, i might try to do that. great videos
If you work on mowers you should get a pair of Z bend pliers. They make Z bends really fast easy and perfect
Thanks! Well done
Good job
Eres un profesional
gracias amigo!
Thanks man!!
I'm going to send you a picture of my snapper Briggs & Stratton engine of the throttle cable connection so you can tell me how/are what I need to make it right.
Sure you will
i find when you bend it, it weakens the cable and it snaps
Awesome!
Thanks
@th19940305 thanks dude
thanx...
Okay, if I'm not mistaken, 2 90 degree bends makes an "S", why call it a Z???

Who needed a video to do this !!! Wtf
what happen to my you tube?

Nice job, Thank You!
Thanks
