In this video I show you how to easly fix a lawnmower cable that has a broken end. .......This is brilliant....that ferrule cable splicer is only $1.47 at Home Depot for 2.....You can buy a 2 ft. length of stainless steel 3/32 cable for 0.50 cents......that's it....back in business.....

    You can just use a open end, or box end wrench to pop those cable clips off. That way you don't have to waste time making an additional tool.

    I think that looks pretty good! Personally I wouldn't waste time building that little tool because needle nose pliers work just as good. I stumbled upon those double ferrules at Home Depot yesterday. They want $1.50 for two of them so 50 for $4 is a steal.

    Thanks for this. I tried it and it worked. Looks like it might last a good while.
    I used 3mm aluminium wire, also call 16 gauge I think. 1/16 inch would be 1.5 mm which would probably be too thin.
    Also instead of crimping I used a 3mm duplex egg shaped screw clamp. That was a good decision as I had to adjust the length and was able to undo and redo them clamp.

  • @Lanninglongarmmowing
    @Lanninglongarmmowing 9 лет назад +1

    Great video dw6! I think there could be another way of doing this. I would use steel wire so its stronger than aluminum. I would then tack weld the crimp connector to both wires if you have a welder. That should hold a long time. Hope you don't burn thru the cable though.

    • @CodyJv
      @CodyJv 9 лет назад +1

      +doublewide6 defeat the safety brake with a zip tie and rig up a switch to ground the spark. love it because you can move whatever is in the yard and come back to a running mower. Or skip the wiring of ground and install some rope to pull the spark plug boot off the plug to kill er.

    Thank you.I have a platinum Sears pushmower with the ez drive system.The cable broke into.Went to order it and said the famous"obsolete"on the cable.I then noticed the cable with the ez handle assembly.Sears instead of offering just the drive cable they make you buy the whole handle assembly with cable.Instead of a 20.00 cable you have 60.00 plus shipping.F SEARS.They deserve to go out.Anyways thank you.I fixing it with ferrules from lowes and a new bike inner cable.

    The plastic sheathing on my lawn mower throttle cable broke in the middle when I folded the handle for winter storage. The wire inside the cable is not broken; can you suggest how to splice the plastic sheathing back together so that the wire moves inside the sheathing. They want $50 plus shipping for a new replacement cable. Dave P.

    • @netdoctor1
      @netdoctor1 5 лет назад +2

      Try this:
      Pull the cable together at the break.
      Put a hose clamp around the handle just above the break and a hose clamp just below the break.
      Tighten the clamps just enough to hold them in place. If you tighten them too much you may squeeze the cable inside and restrict the movement.
      Yes, it looks tacky, but it works.
