The Path To Strength: How Street Fighter 6 Teaches You To Get Better

  • Street Fighter 6 has created an experience unlike any other fighting game I've played. One where it's not only easy to have fun, but it's also much more comforting trying to improve. Losing is an inevitability but it's not spoken about how valuable losing actually is! World Tour mode and other quality of life features have made SF6 my favorite game for understanding how to grow from losing.

I just find it quite genius to use the world tour story mode as the so called ‘early game’. By naturally introducing all the types of enemies you could face, it primes you to work against these strategies in the online mode, which is defined as the ‘late game’ by the developers.

You know this World Tour is good when this mode inspired me to hit the Gym and trying to lose weight and building some muscle. What a motivational mode

the replay function is so good. I'm new to fighting games so its kinda hard to notice what I'm doing wrong during the match. While watching replay of a mirror match with another Marisa I learned that during tense moments I was spamming heavy punches and kicks while the other Marisa was using medium attacks. Also the karate mini game in world tour helped me so much in learning how to play charge characters.

Great Vid! SF6 is doing so much for players new and old! I have a few friends who weren't in to fighters that seriously now really playing the game!
And as for me, I'm just having fun not being super sweaty again running around battle hub and world tour! Just gotta remember this SF6 journey can be a sprint, marathon or just a light jog in the park. The part that matters is that its whatever YOU choose it to be.

It often felt like my journey took a backseat to something just my character cared about like finding Bosch or building a *spoiler* for him. A big disconnect for me there but I still enjoyed World Tour a lot, especially all the little wax on, wax off stuff. Even if I specifically didnt benefit from something it always pleases me to see those connections that make the game more than the sum of its parts.
That said I kinda wish they pushed that more. I would like to be able to use a complete moveset of a single master or make my avatar look as unique as masters and important NPCs. Customizing appearance of characters in other game modes could also be nice or being able to use World Tour appearance over them.

What caught my attention in the beta was in a lost match screen you was reminded "You Lose" in big ass letters. It encourages players that the end result is just a result. Its about having fun and getting better.

Truly one of the best videos out there on SF6. This game really understands the heart of competition, even if a lot of players don't.

Once I understood the point of the World Tour mode, I’m much more forgiving of its storytelling flaws when it comes to the “Masters” not really interacting with the world (only Luke, Juri, Kimberly, and JP have a story placement and appear outside of their “zone” at any point). It sucks cuz the arcade story isn’t quite as fulfilling either, tho I’m glad it’s there day one. 😅
However, I think the biggest flaw of World Tour mode is Bosch. He’s supposed to be our rival, someone we’re supposed to bond with on our journey, who we get into numerous fights with, who we ponder philosophies of fighting and life, and who’s supposed to bare his soul to us, but we don’t get that. We get one chapter of pizza munching, hat shopping, and Luke beating before he suddenly just whines about “not getting strong fast enough” and then runs off. We bump into him two more times, he gets kidnapped, and then we don’t see him again until near the end-game, and then he’s played like a pawn by JP (in an honestly fantastic villainous move that proves he don’t f around), but also by the Resistance (who we’re hardly sympathetic for since they are terrorists) and even Neo Shadaloo (allegedly…hope we get more of that in future story DLC…if that truly is something to come down the line). The game is trying to make us sympathetic to Bosch and his plight but we never EXPERIENCE it. It’s trying to give us the Ken & Ryu bonding into facing off a la Street Fighter II Anime, only the footage of Bosch and our character truly bonding isn’t quite there (honestly don’t even know why or how Bosch came to be part of Buckler in the first place, nor why he got such a mad on initially for us).
At the risk of sounding like an arm-chair quarterback, Bosch shouldn’t have left after the first chapter. We should have gotten more time traveling around Metro City and even the world with him, encountering more Masters with him than just Luke (and technically Juri), have him illustrate the wrong mindset and the wrong lessons learned from his desire to shortcut his way to strength, let us see him start to fall towards “the dark side” long before being kidnapped, and maybe even see Nayshall for the first time with him, and perhaps let that be when he decides he needs to abandon us because seeing his home in such a state galvanizes his resolve to do whatever it takes to stop JP. I dunno; it just rang hollow, and seeing him die (well, explode…we know how these things can turn out) left me being like “well, guess that’s it for him then…now gimme more JP, cuz anyone who’s willing to put a child in harms way to draw out an assassin is crazy evil, and I’m all for it!” The fact they save JP “mentoring” you as a post-credit arc was smart, as I’m pretty sure Ken, Kimberly, and most of the main cast would have balked at you teaming up with the Big Bad.

I'm with you all the way. It really felt like a fix that could've been done pretty easily. Just change a few things around here and there and let us see where we go right and he goes wrong

There is one issue I have with modern controls and World Tour mode: you’re limited on the special moves you get to assign to your Create a Character. This would be okay if it ONLY applied to players choosing to stick with modern controls, but I switched to Classic Controls as soon as I was able and at no point could I put in two different special that shared the same motion, even if the button was different. This is problematic if I wanted my character to have all the same moves as a master character but couldn’t because the motion was the same. I feel this is a problem that can be fixed with a patch.
