2021 Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Review: • Before You Buy the New...
Third Party Calibers In-Depth: • Overview Of Third-Part...
The world of mechanical chronographs is in many ways split in two parts, with chronograph watches powered by third-party calibers on one side of the fence and in-house manufacture chronograph calibers on the other. In this video, I'll take a look at a striking Longines that manages to strike a balance, existing sort of in between these traditional bounds with an ETA caliber with some impressive specs that is only available in this Longines Avigation BigEye. The interesting caliber paired with a titanium case and an especially impressive dial execution make this Longines one to keep on your radar.

Longines is pure Swiss heritage. An overlooked gem.
Longines could be Omega .. and Omega could be a Longines. Poor longines brand was on purpose classified as a low cost , massive product. Its was just a corporate decision. As simply as that . Have also Omegas, Longines, Breitling and others , and longines is an excellent watch. Very underrated.
I can't remember the last Longines Heritage piece I didn't fall for instantly, love 'em.
100% sign me up for every single one of them...
Right there with you. I’ve got this one and the sector dial and I’m absolutely in love with them both.
Longines is the most underrated watch brand. Specially the heritage line. Phenomenal watches
I think it’s just underrated in the US. Seems to be more known and respected in Europe and other parts of the world
@@jakubgolonka3126 They are not too well known in Europe either. But they are very popular in China.
@@Hans-Georg_Buddne Enyone whos into watches know Longines. Those who dont shopping at ALIEXPRESS or buying fashion brands.
It is second brand in the quantity of sold pieces after Tissot. Is it really "underrated"?
Not underrated at all, its actually the 4th most sold watch brand in the world, after Rolex,Omega and Cartier.
Can't get over the quality of these videos.
No need to. They keep on coming 😊
Cant get over the fact that Teddy and John P Watches look like brothers. But yeah, def best b-roll on watch youtube
I have owned my "Big Eye" for a week and the time is STILL spot-on with my smartphone! Never experienced this with ANY other timepiece!
Thanks Teddy. Watched this video a ton of times. Inspired me to save up to get this watch. Finally was able to get this titanium beauty. Thanks for such great content!
Teddy, thank you for responding to my request to review the Longines L2.816.1.93.2 Avigation BigEye. I have been eyeing this watch since it came out around 6 months ago, but I was hesitant to add it to my collection since I don't know much about the Longines brand. I love the way you presented the watch, and answered all of my questions. I love the blue textured dial, and thanks for explaining the quality of the movements. I trust your judgement and I am putting this watch on my "watch list". Once the price drops a little bit, I will be buying it. It may not have the prestige of the Daytona, Zaytona, and Tudor Chronograph, but it is a truly beautiful watch at an amazing value price that makes it easy to wear on the wrist (as opposed to putting it in a safe). Your insight & expertise in horology keeps me coming back to your videos. Keep up the great work.
Beautiful simplistic design, yet with so many details. I absolutely love it!
Longines are just a fantastic brand. Just bought my first HydroConquest a month ago and I love it so damn much! Great video, Teddy!
Cheers :)
You just brought the attention of thousands of people to a watch I was considering buying. Thanks for driving up demand.
Just picked one up an hour ago. Stopped into my Rolex AD just to see if i would get lucky (of course I didn’t!). The salesman, who I have purchased from numerous times, started asking me about Longines and why I didn’t own any. I had no reason. I saw this exact one, tried it on, got a 10% discount which was fine with me, and out the door. I will say, the box itself is nice, the watch weighs nothing, and it adds a nice daily driver to my collection. I just really want to get it onto a NATO.
As always great content, also you always have great guests Thx
The blue dial version looks simply amazing. Great watch.
Just got a 29mm longines for my mom for her birthday. Liking this brand more and more
I’ve got the black dial / steel case Longines and I have to say it’s one of my best purchases
Simply continue with these videos! Doing it all right
Just purchased my Titanium Big Eye yesterday! It's definitely a beautiful piece. This video helped me to pull the trigger on it. Thanks Teddy!
Really wish the chrono minutes wasn't in 3 minute intervals. :[
@@Wootguy238 It's actually really easy to get used to. Has some Historical connection with the original piece as well. Something about Navigating and 3 min turns of the Aircraft.
@@bbscmvsa7411 I've been looking into it more. Evidently it's something called a "2-minute turn". I'm wanting to purchase this for work, but I'm going to try holding out until this coming Spring to see what new releases come out from everyone.
@@Wootguy238 Best of luck with whatever you decide!
Thank you for this review. I am thinking about buying this watch for a very special personal occasion... the presentation helped a lot!
bought it a few months ago and it's so beautiful. love it !!!
Wow 😮 It’s an amazing watch ! Really beautiful and a good quality. I love Longines ! New collection is perfect (for me). 👍🏻😊 Very cool video, thanks Teddy 😊👍🏻
Timepiece Teddy ...love your channel. Kudos!
I love this watch. Love the brand. Great value for money. And another great video from mr. Baldassarre.
The Longines heritage models are my favorite from them. This big eye looks sweet
Beautiful timepiece and like always great enjoyable video!
Nice review Teddy
Great video Teddy! Love those Chronos
Thanks for watching Mario. 🙌🏻👍🏻
The look of the new version 😍
I saw this in a window recently and it looked really cool. Smart looker with a twist.
This Longines is beautiful. You've gotten me into watches this year. Just rehabbed my old Swiss Menger watch with black dial, purchased a Seiko Alpinist SPB123J1. Just purchased a small watch case for 6 pieces. Keep on inspiring!
Thank you for watching! I am glad I can be helpful on your journey!
That's a dangerous desicion. You might feel the urge to fill that watch case ;)
@@Hans-Georg_Buddne and then get a second, bigger one, fill that and continue on in the hell that is “collecting” 😂👍
A dangerous Decision is so true!
The Feedback, starting small is a good start. However, you will quickly upgrade to a larger storage case as your passion grows. Once you get the collecting bug, it will blossom over the course of your life. I am speaking form my own experience.
@@Hans-Georg_Buddne I have two more spots. I think Tissot will be the next buy. I'm definitely in trouble lol.
The Land! Makes a great backdrop for the aesthetic of the video shoot.
The Longines Master Cronograph collection has been on my radar for a long time. For me, it is the ideal IWC Portugieser contender, for half the price.
I think the value of Longines heritage models can't be overstated. In 2014 I bought a Longines chronograph with the L688.2 movement. Yes it's somewhat thick and the rotor wobbles a fair bit but it's very nicely finished and keeps excellent time: average +2 s/day the whole time. Longines is (mostly) an excellent balance between classy and fairly affordable.
Was hesitant about the blue looking at this model online but went to an AD to try it on the other day and it looks great in real person
Very cool piece... I think this deserved a sapphire display back.
Teddy, your killin it!
Finally a titanium that checks a bunch of boxes
Fantastic looking watch!
My brother has the 2017 release, and after experiencing that on loan for a week I have the titanium version on the way. Super excited.
Stunning watch!
Nice one, suits you really well Teddy!
Love this watch! Nice review, thanks.
Great watch and great video! 👍🏻
Great watch, should be more popular!!
Big Longines fan here. This is a keeper. It may be my next purchase. If I could pry myself from 50's Longines tanks...
That is just a beautiful watch. Classic looking.
The petrol colour is simply stunning
please make a review of longines master collection!
stunning looking watch. its on my shortlist
I went to the AD recently and got try this watch on (different color, same watch) and this thing is a gem. Its got great pusher feel and the winding is super nice. The fauxtina in person actually looks really good, but its one you might need to see first to really appreciate it.
we dont care
@@vuelvoel2011 Deberías importarte amigo
@@Nefville no.
Best value out there for Swiss Timepieces is Longines. Love both versions, but the blue titanium is awesome. 👍 Great video as ALWAYS. Can't believe you or Mitch didn't pick this one!?
Longines is an emotion 🥰
So beautiful!
Great job as usual
Thanks
I'm fond of the Longines Spirit Chronograph, should be the same caliber. With COSC certificate, quite a good deal today
Generally love everything about this watch except for the big eye. It's a personal quirk, but to me the balance of the dial is disrupted by the off-size big eye. My eye kept going back to it and disrupted the beauty of an otherwise absolutely beautiful watch. I felt that the three subdials would have presented better if they were the same size, but then I guess it would disrupt what others love about it. Love the blue of the dial and it's textured surface.
I'm a sucker for these modern vintage inspired watches. A great collection for me would be this, a black bay pro, and an oris diver 65. A great 3 piece collection under 10k :)
Looks great!
I love both of them but it is even more beautiful in the blue.
A looker! The watch reminds of Patek's Pilot Travel Time
Many disregard Longines because it no longer produces in-house movements as back in the day. But many people forget it was one of the dozen brands who survived the Quartz Crisis and even to this day, they put some effort into customizing ETA movements, albeit they don't design them from scratch anymore. It still requires craftsmanship and know-how, and as such, it is truly an underated and underappreciated swiss gem. Even more so when they make excellent timepieces at such an accessible price, cutting just enough and the right corners to still deliver quality. It is by far one of my favorite brands and my grail watch is, of course, a Longines.
Teddy
I recently purchased the Longines Spirit Chronograph. Phenomenal ! Very similar in its architecture to the “Big Eye”. Where was I looking and how did I miss Longines? Also I own a current Omega Speedmaster 38 with the cal 3330 inside and from what I can tell (co-axial escapement apart), the L688.4 inside the Longines is the same. Yes both companies are part of the Swatch group, but could someone perhaps tell me where the nigh on £2k (sterling) difference in premium goes? If anything acquiring the gorgeous Spirit Chronograph has ensured that all future purchases I make will be far more considered. I hope people find that a useful comment as these kind of watches are very much a luxury and treat for myself and I’m sure that’s the case for many other subscribers to your channel. A Patek, AP, etc as desirable as they are won’t realistically be on my radar any time soon. No for those of us lucky enough in my view to afford nice watches the £2-£5k is the sweet spot. Keep up the reviews.😀👍😀👍
Big Eye Titanium is a win. good job Longines!
Beautiful watch
I've not seen these in a blue dial, the black dial, steel version being more commonly displayed and photographed. I like the textural and fume finish of this Ti blue dial.
Would love to hear your thoughts in the Roue TPS. Also general thoughts on meca-quartz movements. Also any thoughts on the older Tissot T-One. Seems like a nice mechanical for not a ton of money nowadays.
Teddy's shirt is giving me trippy vibes. If you focus on the white dots where the plaid intersects, other ones turn black. lol. Great video as always!
Hahaha the dial and shirt are both hypnotizing
Favorite Chronograph on the market (2017 steel VER.)
That’s a damn fine looking watch, I have to say.
I would have preferred they go for a dark green-ish colour instead. Between the two dials that currently are available, I would go for the more understated plain black. Good review! Longines are great watches. Too bad Swatch don’t let them develop or even manufacture calibers-for relatively good reasons, though.
Pretty! Love it.
Probably can't beat Longines for quality at this price point great watch.
Can’t stop looking at your shirt because of the grid illusion!
It's a very good looking watch, much better than the steel version.
The dial reminds me of the Seiko blue baby alpinist.
Great video
Another great example in my opinion of best value swiss chronograph which also have a flyback complication with inhouse manufacture movement comes from Frederique Constant with FC760 caliber for less than 4000$ retail price.
I liked the black dial but the blue is exquisite. The want one -ometer is in the red zone for this one.
Such a beautiful watch .. I don’t think any watch in this price range is so beautiful
I'm blown away by the quality of the images. I prefer the first version, more versatile...
boring comment, but I just love this watch! great info on the different levels of chronos!
I love your videos! I’m a big fan! Could you please do a video on the Frederique Constantine Slimline Monolithic. It’s so intriguing with its 40Hz Fc-810 movement. It’s so smooth it reminds me of a Grand Seiko Spring Drive. Thanks & keep up the great work!
Love Longines!. Brand that rich of history. Perhaps you can review the new Longines HydroConquest Two tones?
I have an eye on the Big Eye for a while now. I wish they make the titanium with the original black dial though.
Hi Teddy. I hope you can also review the Hydroconquest. Many thanks.
Great video thanks!
Can we please have a video on the frederique constant Flyback chronograph? I feel it is a very over-looked watch. Fully in house Flyback chronograph, great looks, and can be purchased used for less than $2000, I think it is one of the nicest and best value chronographs on the market!
Beautiful watch! A point though: I have a similar Sinn 103 (chronometer) with sapphire case back that is rated at 200m water resistance. There are nice chronometers out there that offer that WR versatility and value.
Yes, but is it a vertical clutch, column wheel chronograph with a silicon hair spring? If I recall correctly, the Sinn is usin the standard 7750. It's a great watch dont get me wrong, but the Longines movement is on another level.
Strepitoso ❤❤❤sto pensando di acquistarlo 💪💪🤩😊
Triangle marking above 12 make this watch perfect
Totally in love with this one. Went to it first hand today and noticed the dial reflects light oddly once turned to a specific angle (something that doesn't happen on similar textured dials from the same or other manufacturers). It instantly turned me off. Not sure what to do now.
I actually looking at The Longines Master Collection L2.773.4.92.0 just now and impressed by its low price, still equip with Column Wheel chronograph and Moonphase indicator.
Then this video come out...
I think this is fate that my next watch will be Longines
I bought the moon phase chronograph and did NOT like it at all. Too busy and impossible to read. And I am a huge Longines fan. Expensive lesson.
@@stephen255 I think it is all up to personal preference. I found busier dial, something like Seiko SPC255P1. It is a quartz with perpetual calendar (day, date, month and leap year), chronograph with tachymeter and even alarm.
But everything only point by hand. The perpetual calendar and chronograph cannot display together, need to change "mode" of the watch... that is really complicated which is what I don't like.
But I think I will be fine with the Longines moonphase chronograph.
@@tanjinpang I wish you the best!
I'm not really fussed by symmetry at all usually but this one really triggers some deep, hidden OCD in my brain. I don't mind the black version as it is less noticeable. Cool watches, just not for me. Excellent vid as always, Teddy!
other fairly unique chronos in this range would be any of the models from the Farer Chronograph Sport family. All of them with exceptional designs, 13.5mm total thickness, and a hand-wound Sellita movement with 58h power reserve, all at the $2k mark. No heritage brand, sure, but these watches certainly can compete with watches above their price point.
Love it own the s/s version.
Why does everybody have a review on certina watches, they deserve the spotlight. Have a review Teddy please.
nice watch am a fan cheers
Not puke expensive, great one!
Wow, never would have looked at this watch from Longines' line up, but it's gorgeous.
By the way, are there any plans of doing a review of the 39mm automatic Longines Conquest? There are so few reviews of it.
EDIT: Either the blue or white dial variant, or both.
One Swiss brand that is underrated is Certina - part of the Swatch group, uses ETA movements & their dive watches are competitively priced
Yes like Mido but they both do not have the history like Longines…
Longines takin' care of business at the mid range prices & vintage reissues.
Literally nobody does it better at what they do in that range
So beautiful
