- Episode 377 : Season 12 : Sailing Australia
Hello Friends,
On this episode we continue to make our way up inside the ICW, From tipplers to Browns Bay and on to Peel Island. Dodging shoals and regularly seeing less than 2ft under our keel in places even at high tide, we finally made it out into the deeper water of Moreton Bay and were not longer controlled by the tides.
I have also included a little clip of a snorkel adventure where we explored a shipwreck at Peel Island.

As a Moreton Bay local who spends a great deal of time on the water here it's always intriguing to see how others view what is our backyard. Glad you have enjoyed it.
We loved all the still anchorages !
Another delightful visual of far off lands, thankyou. BTW your choice of music to match the snorkling around the sunken unit was so appropriate, thank you for that. ❤
Good times 🎉 Rhonda does a nice job with the voice overs
🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
The snorkeling segment was wonderfu dreamlike the music was perfect.... thank you!
🙏🏻Thanks
Excellent cinematography, composition and music choice in the ship wreck snippet.
Thanks for adding satellite view to your vids.
I live on MacLeay Is and can see Peel Island from my house. My kids live on Russell Island at Browns Bay so you have just sailed by us. I love your channel. You are going to love going up the Qld coast. Don’t rush it. Safe sailing.
Thanks for all your content James and the way you run your channel
I don’t miss an episode, but I sure miss the boat , I’m 66 and I wished I had done what you’re doing
So happy Rhonda join you. She seems to be a sweetheart.
It was really hard to pull off this dream of cruising but if I know I would have regretted it someday if I didn’t make it happen 🙏🏻
Love the music!!

Delightful. The explanation of inserting the snorkeling clip out of order really made me feel included in your ongoing adventures. Nice touch, very personal.
Thanks for the feedback 🙏🏻
I loved the video. Onto a different subject, Rhonda you mentioned that you could not find corn starch at the grocery store, in Australia it is called corn flour. Happy travels. What an adventure
While in the US Navy, we went to Brisbane in 1974. Wonderful place and so are the people.
We loved Brisbane
We do like seeing the US Navy here. I was standing behind a couple of enlisted guys back in the 1990s when they were here and was impressed by the intellectual conversation they were having with each other. Quite a contrast to the guys I served with in the RN.
10:46 so cool how the water is so pristine clear in that protected area
Compared to the surroundings
Horseshoe Bay can be very clear, but the Moreton Island wrecks at Tangalooma are on another level.
Thank you for beautiful pictures I wish I join you one day
Another nice video. As a steamboat man i loved seeing the old dredge, even if it is a wreck. The Steam Launch Puke that you went on in Whangarei did 6 months service in Brisbane in 1988 working for the NZ expo commission (she went over as deck cargo).
I loved getting to ride on the Puke!
Do a search for Tangalooma Wrecks. They are about 13 miles from the Brisbane River mouth.
we know about them, the weather didn't allow us to visit them.
You know what i love, James/Rhonda? The introduction to your videos, it's like, time to chill, sailing is on 😊 thank you both so much 🤘👍..
Awesome 😂 glad you like it !
@@SailorJames Absolutely i like it, James videos were my very first introduction into sailing nomadic life, there are parallels with my own vanlife "life", obviously the two ways of living are vastly different, I accept that, but there are similarities, the sea scares me, but James makes it less so 🥰🤘👍..
Sending love from New Zealand ❤
I love both New Zealand and Australia.
The people in Australia and the scenery on the south coast of New Zealand.
The reason is the north island does not have enough trees and is just a big field.
Australia ❤️
New Zealand ❤️
Edited I felt bad *
North island has some of the best cruising grounds in the entire world in my opinion 👍🏻
@@SailorJames I drove to the tippy top of there north island. Crazy dirt track and amazing views. I remember I couldn’t see round the bends on the cliff. Sweaty Feet ✌🏻
Cheers to you and Rhonda 🍻
Thanks 🙏🏻
While you were in the area, did you manage to find any Moreton Bay bugs.?. It's a species of Slipper Lobster. May not be the season.? Moving on. Great episode guys. Thank you, as always for sharing this episode. Take care.
Always such a nice watch before bedtime, been subbed for a good 2 years now I discovered you randomly via a recommendation!
Keep up the work and the journey you are on!
Thanks for following along 🙏🏻
Hi James, I've been watching your videos for a while now and what a surprise to see you've anchored just down the road from my house here in Brisbane. Hope you have a great time in Brissie. Make sure you check out the wrecks on Moreton Island for snorkelling before you go. You'll love it. All the best mate.
The weather didn’t allow us to visit Tangalooma unfortunately
@@SailorJamesThe holding inside the wrecks can be a bit sketchy too. It gets ploughed up quite a bit.
Thanks!
Thanks 🙏🏻
Your videos inspired me to leave the US in search of my own adventures, and I’ve accepted a job overseas in Timor Leste which is just north of Australia. If y’all find yourself up near there during this video series I would love to see y’all explore the area. It would also give me an idea of what I can expect when I go there in October 😂
Congratulations on the life change !!!
Don't they taste like chicken?
Great watch, had a week in Gold Coast a few months ago and did a jet boat trip up the waterways, lovely area.
It’s awesome that they have those protected waters to cruise in and explore !
Amazing. I worked with crocodiles for over 20 years if you have any questions before Northern waters.
Brisbane is a beautiful city m8t .
Thank you so much for that documentation. Thank❤ you
Thanks for watching 🙏🏻
@SailorJames I'm 74 I don't make big tours, but I'm still sailing with my doppelender 6.5 tonn.traditional gaffcutter28. Only island hopping. 🥰
Nice dive.....
Underway, shift colors!
Great coverage of the Broadsound and Morton Bay. I sailed these waters over the last 30 years and enjoying your coverage. The only thing that has changed is the Wrecks. 30 years ago the wrecks were still with decks and wheelhouses. We could shelter from the West wind. Once it blew 40 knots for 3 days, from the west. Can you imagine swinging with the tide while the wind was in the west. The third day it blew a yacht onto the beach. Enjoy the rest of Queensland Coast, it is a gem. We never stopped in Mackay. With Whitsundays so close why would you ?
We only stopped into Mackay to refill on water otherwise we wouldn’t have bothered
Shweeeetnessss you guys rock
Fantastic Folks 🐬 🐬 🙏👣👍
Long long ago before the continental lands came out and formed its self we were part of waters ❤❤
Wow very jealous ❤
herman's hermits sea cruise
Thanks
As usual a great video but on a small point we do not have a ICW here in Queensland. Moreton Bay to The Broadwater is more accurate. Cheers
By definition you are wrong.
Never heard it referred to as the ICW.
its the very definition of intracoastal
By definition Yes but by name no, never called that ever. As ex marine police in area have a fair idea.
In the "olden" days of cruising, another boat was welcome company. I guess familiarity does breed contempt. Sometimes the other boat are needed in an emergency.
I have no patience for boats that unnecessarily wake other boats.
@@SailorJames I agree with that. Thoughtless at best, vindictive at worst.
Hey guys 🤙🤙🤙🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Hope to see you in the Philippines
Island was home to a lepa colony back in the day only thinknon the island is a few huts mate
Yep yep 👍🏻
Actually there are buildings there and some very dark history. There is also the graveyard, often with numbered graves. A million mosquitoes too. You could get a guided tour but now that part of the island is back in control of the original owners the Quandamooka. They haven't got organised tours operating yet and you cannot enter their lands without permission. It is a serious offence for many good reasons, but the south side is open to all and has some facilities. Great to see James's view of Teerk Roo Ra.
Filming low lying landscapes from the waters tough to do unless its tidal .... It gets easier further up the coast if its where i think your heading.
Hope you are both having fun with friends 🧙🏻♂️👍🏻
A lot of channels have had to do some Hurricane Beryl dodging in the Caribbean past week... Its now heading for Texas after passing over the Yukatan Peninsula and reving back up over the sea again.
Please don't forget to remind us of Rhonda's cooking channel's name . I loved it as well as this video 😁
Hi Sandy, this is my cooking channel 😊
🎉
I subscribed to you because you a genuine and living my dream. Subscribed to Rhonda because she makes a great granola and cute. No disrespect. Good winds and safe journey you two.
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 thanks for watching 🙏🏻
What was the track playing as you snorkelled around the Platypus? It was sublime!
All the music I use is from a copyright free music service I pay for, so they are not regular tracks from bands.
Loved this video. Do you find it easier to make vids now or harder now there is two of you and you are running two channels? Do you share editing and music selection? Have you found a good mushroom for making Japanese Curry? I always used chicken but mushrooms would work. So I can cook more healthily. 😊😊 ❤❤ love you guys.😊😊
In someways it’s easier because now I have a “subject” to film and two of us to discuss what we are seeing.
I taught Rhonda the basics of editing and she downloaded software and does all her own filming and editing and music selection.
Do you guys use a sextant to confirm your position, ? Using celestial navigation to track your position etc
Yes

Hi James what was the backround music on the PIO Island dive ?
All the music I use is from a copyright free music service I pay for so they aren’t publicly available songs
@@SailorJames just reminded me of something I once heard . Ty for the prompt reply .
Are you stopping at Bowen????
Depends on time and weather
What was your biggest mental barrier you had to overcome in order to sail across the Pacific Ocean?
I don’t feel I had any mental barriers because I had spent years sailing with tons of skilled captains and gaining experience and had done a lot of solo sailing in Southern California.
you were not safe from crocks there
Extremely unlikely
Lol. No crocs there mate. I would be more worried about Bull sharks 🦈 in Moreton Bay.
Video's are just too short 🎉
Average watch time for this length of video is 9mins , average watch time for an hour long film is 15 minutes
I really like you's content , I'm in my late 50s , please don't take afence guys , but as you's enter nth qld , and the Torres straits , I'd keep the australia flag apparel to a minimum , and on another note , be safe and feel the luv , ps , look up the name ,Eddie marbo 🤔👍🖖✌
I lived in South Central Los Angeles where automatic gunfire is a regular occurrence. I am not concerned with offending people by displaying the legally required flag of the country I am visiting. Especially not in a country as safe as Australia.
Thanks!
Thank you 🙏🏻
