  • Episode 377 : Season 12 : Sailing Australia
    Hello Friends,
On this episode we continue to make our way up inside the ICW, From tipplers to Browns Bay and on to Peel Island. Dodging shoals and regularly seeing less than 2ft under our keel in places even at high tide, we finally made it out into the deeper water of Moreton Bay and were not longer controlled by the tides.
I have also included a little clip of a snorkel adventure where we explored a shipwreck at Peel Island.

Great coverage of the Broadsound and Morton Bay. I sailed these waters over the last 30 years and enjoying your coverage. The only thing that has changed is the Wrecks. 30 years ago the wrecks were still with decks and wheelhouses. We could shelter from the West wind. Once it blew 40 knots for 3 days, from the west. Can you imagine swinging with the tide while the wind was in the west. The third day it blew a yacht onto the beach. Enjoy the rest of Queensland Coast, it is a gem. We never stopped in Mackay. With Whitsundays so close why would you ?

Actually there are buildings there and some very dark history. There is also the graveyard, often with numbered graves. A million mosquitoes too. You could get a guided tour but now that part of the island is back in control of the original owners the Quandamooka. They haven't got organised tours operating yet and you cannot enter their lands without permission. It is a serious offence for many good reasons, but the south side is open to all and has some facilities. Great to see James's view of Teerk Roo Ra.
