Anchoring Amongst Skyscrapers in Downtown Brisbane and Riding South Bank's Brisbane Wheel

Hello Friends,
On this episode we haul up anchor and make our way under the famous Story Bridge to anchor in Brisbane's CBD. It's so surreal to see Triteia anchored with skyscrapers towering above her! After spending so many nights anchored in remote anchorages it's fun to anchor in the middle of a big city for a short stay!
We loved Brisbane! It as great to explore the city and to head over to South Bank and ride on the Brisbane Wheel!

After you pass under the Story Bridge, there's a riverside walk to the right when sailing into the CBD; that's my daily commute to work and I've been hoping to spot you sailing into Brisbane whilst walking along that route ever since I saw you were coming to Australia.

Last time in Brisbane i anchored just before the bend at the botanical gardens. Except for the ferries , it was brilliant.

What a massive change in the area above the Story Bridge from when we sailed there in '87 &'88. We stayed at the pile mooring area by the Botanical Gardens with many other yachty folks above that new walking bridge. It was a really laid back sort of place. Our mast was 57' above the water line so the area would be closed to the likes of us now.
Yeah the pile moorings are now all empty except for one or two boats
@SailorJames I noticed that too coming back to Brisbane after years away. I used to live at Kangaroo Point just opposite the Jazz Club and there used to be hundreds of full-time boat dwellers on both sides and now they're all gone... why is that? Used to be the cheapest inner city accommodation in Brisbane.
Hi Jamie, and Rhonda, yes, unfortunately they build all this infrastructure and do not think of the Yachties, but they call this progress , once again Shane I didn’t get to catch up with you guys. I would’ve loved to meet you in person and take me around to different attractions

I’m not in a rush
When Surfers Paradise does my head in I take my ebike on the train and stay in Brisbane, with my Sis. Love riding over the bridges, river paths and coming back on the ferries. Southbank pools are perfect place to chill in summer. Brisbane transport and bike trails are excellent for an ebike riding pensioner 😅😊

Ha, you passed the Felon brewery company before the first bridge you sailed under, the brewery gets its name from the true tale of four felons, who, in 1823, on their way to Illawarra from Sydney were blown off course and found themselves lost at sea, ended up shipwrecked up north on Moreton Island. Great episode, thank you both 🤘👍

That wheel was not there 12mths ago when I was there on my yacht & you could go to the pontoon at the Botanical Gardens in a yacht, before the bridge went right across. I was lucky.
At about the 8:15 mark… if Django Reinhardt had been a guitarist for Steely Dan, 😂😂😂!! The music never fails to deliver… always good stuff.

Hi James and Rhonda, Always fun to watch you both on your adventures 🎉😎. Yesterday I tried my new Powerkite, flew a few meters into the air, then crashed into the Dunes, face forward. Considering to trade it in for a Yacht, but the people I approached were reluctant to trade. Don’t know why. 😜

Yes definitely another advantage to having a smaller boat. Shallow draft and bridges, I hate bridges because it never looks like you going to fit.

You mean circumnavigating? Since the internet is the only way I can fund this life I would say no. But in regards to ocean sailing I have never had internet at sea , and sailing without satellite connectivity/ weather reports is obviously doable but unnecessarily foolish in this day and age
I'm about an hour and a half's drive from where you are, don't know that I'd leave my tender on that wharf without a padlock. 🙂

At the end I noticed no lights on the Dingy that I could see and you boat was completely dark. Might be ok on the boat, but not the dingy, is a safety issue.

That's a pretty big city. Imagine they had some big cities like that. But most of the time all I see is remote errors.

The only answer to low bridges like that is copy the Dutch and mount the mast in a deck tabernacle..so you can lower it flat ..Learning the lines viewed a realy unusal vessel years ago that had a realy unusal hull the mast as described plus barge boards .. on the side but the hull was far from having barge lines and had a full keel .
Theres one big problem building a big high tech city like that ..that close to the sea ... and its why London has a Tide barrier and why they had flooding there a few years ago... but thats global. 🧙🏻♂️

One channel I watched for a long time was, Free range sailing. Man they had some spots they went to. If you get a chance check them out. They gave up sailboat life for a farm. Stop watching them after that.
