Those who don't like the head mounted camera, (POV), need to understand it actually helps the viewer better understand the adjustments Tristan is making by knowing what he is looking at. Great work as usual Tristan.
For you and the others, who don’t understand, that watching a head camera with fast moving on a screen, is highly uncomfortable and irritating to watch. To mount a handful cameras in the right position, gives the same effect, learning and getting the maneuvering. Complains about the headmounted camera doesn’t mean, that the content is bad. His content is interesting and good. But in camera work, he needs to catch up a little bit. Nothing wrong with that. Right!?
He's also been doing this for a while. It's part of his style. I personally don't think he overdoes it. This video had a descent amount of it, but half the video was him backing into a slip. So it makes sense that there was more in this video.
I'm happy with the headmounted camera. It clearly shows the amount to situational awareness he wants. To use a phrase from another poster here: For those who don't understand, the amount of awareness a person wants goes up with experience and professionalism. The headmounted camera gives a good indication. Thanks Tristan, your choice is based on experience and professionalism
Excellent job Captain Mortlock, we RUclipsrs just witnessed your experience/talent combined with the nerves of steel it takes to do what you do. I crewed for my dad for about 6 years in my early late teens/early twenties on a 116' Feadship. During my time with him that included two trans-Atlantic crossings and many, many dockings (stern too and parallel parking). I'm happy to report even with all kinds of conditions (wind, rain, current) there weren't any mishaps or damage, some close calls but that’s to be expected. I’m writing this in my late sixties with fond memories of my now passed away father.
Now that is what I would call some SERIOUS father/son time. and I am thinking back in the 70's, a 116' yacht was a rare thing. We didn't have the mega-wealthy people with private mega-yachts back then... or at least in my hot take of the world back then it seems that way.
As a Capt. of smaller yachts, My heart started racing during the start of the backup. i know that feeling when your crew is looking for info and your trying to focus on the task. Great job you give me more confidence every time i watch your vids.
I'm a landlocked American in mid-U.S.A. I thought your driving the boat out from its berth was just terrific. I enjoyed watching your confidence and competence. Well done!
I really like the camera that shows the thrusters and controllers, very few RUclips chanells show it, and it is my favourite thing to watch, how the boat is controlled with each single adjustment
Great work Captain..... it was amazing to see your controls along with the communication from your crew. Enjoy the videos and thank you for taking us along. Stay safe.....
Very impressive manoeuvres Tristan, particularly coming into the marina, turning and docking to the stern! That was a really good lesson in how to control a large MY with the use of throttle and bow thrusters, Well done!
That was AWESOME! I love the operational videos and watching all the technique that goes into parking one of those beasts. And you clearly have lots of technique in your toolbox. Thanks for the ride-along.
That's why your the Captain. Decades of real skills, tested under stressfully docking. And always in Command. Good job , easy to see your skill level. Any yacht would be Lucky, to call you there captain.
Only a up to 60' sail yacht skipper myself did wonder when you would say I need to concentrate. I know how I focus when coming alongside or med mooring. After a couple of times of everyone talking and now after the leaving or coming in brief, it's quieter so those that need to relay information can be heard. Great to see you back. It's been a while!
The first time I attempted docking last year with a catamaran (lagoon 42) in a brand new marina (Marassi Marin, Egypt) ALL the marina representatives were holding their phones videotaping me to document any potential damage that I could have caused, and 2 RIBs from the marina were trailing me.
Niiice, not once did I get any anxiety from watching, which means you visually appeared to have it completely under control at all times. Great work Captain!
Brilliant docking, when you make it look easy that's the sign of a a very competent Captain.Terry a boatman of many years on the very tidal River Mersey.
This was a clear reminder of how well oiled the AWOL crew was toward the end everyone knew what to do when to do it and you didn't have to manage unless you made a change. Hope this new crew gets there some day for you.
WOW! Love this getting to watch this great boat handling! Like watching an action movie. Really like seeing how you and the crew working in such smooth coordination bringing her in perfectly with the wind. The camera work and editing were also 1st class.
Wow . That’s very intense. Boats either side with people watching, wind, big bucks at stake, whew! Nice work Captain. You trick people into thinking it’s easy when it is actually extremely difficult. 😎
Tighter than a fish's gearbox! Very nicely done - out and in, indeed!! It's nerve-wracking stuff just to watch on-screeen...especially with everyone 'eyes on' and focusing on every little move of the boat, particularly those in the next berth, either side! GGs
Yet another fantastic blog from captain Tristan and such a fantastic job he did of docking in hard conditions. Keep up the fantastic job that you and your crew are doing Tristan and thanks for sharing this blog with us all
Excellent work! I am only familiar with maneuvering sailboats up to maybe 40ft but maaaan did I feel you at 12:03 when you said: "I need to concentrate now ...". I was very impressed how cool you stayed for such a long time 🙂
I love watching those micro adjustments when you navigate the marina. A lot of small changes moving those massive yachts. Thank you for showing us your experience 🙏
Really liked the video. I could tell you were completely concentrating. always a joy to watch a master at something work, you made it look almost easy.
It reminds me of the not so distant past when you were doing the maneuvers on the AWOL. Thank you Tristan for continuing to share your exciting job.🙏🙏🙏🙏👍👍👍👍
Fantastic team work and all very calm, well done. My boat is 12.6 m but only has one engine, watching you gave me the same heart in mouth as when I have to reverse into my berth. Great video keep up the great work 😎
Nice to hear your constant internal discussion out loud. As a former USAF pilot I had the same habit and taught others to do the same. There is no excuse for not having 100% diligence and attention to task.
excellent ! these captains are very much dependent upon their crew to make these maneuvers successful ! so much respect for all you guys !!! ... I added stern thruster to my 57' sailboat (bow thruster was original equipment), makes short handling or solo handling doable... that said any high wind docking scenario can go wrong in an instant if not skilled and prepared !!! I should add, Tristan makes this looks easy !!!
How does no one cheer when you greased that second parking job! Well done mate! Well done. If you're ever in Arizona, we can grab a six pack and watch the boat ramp. It's a hoot!
Congratulations on your attitude 👍 I also tell my guests : “I need to concentrate” otherwise they keep asking and walking around. This is a polite way of saying “shut up” 🤣🤣🤣
Thanks so much for Sharing .... Absolute Magic watching you do that Very Tricky Docking .... You had No Space !!!!!! Brilliant Seamanship .... Best to ALL from ChCh, NZ
From docking my boat, a 34' Mainship (10 meters for the non-Americans) with a single screw, it's nice to know I'm doing the same thing as Tristan; goosing the throttles for a moment to get extra thrust to rotate the boat or get her moving, without her going to fast to control.
I greatly enjoyed this video. I hope you post more of your docking and departure procedures. Also since you are a private vessel, who are your guests? Family or friends of the owner?
Oh that was just exquisite to see you handling that beautiful yacht the way you did! Bravo to you and of course the crew too! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👌I only ever did boating at a fun level! We did all have our yacht masters up to offshore level! As it could have not gone across the Atlantic! I took the boat we had then, once into part so do appreciate what you had to do! Ours was just 42 feet That felt huge back then! 😵💫🤣🤣😉

Very efficient stern man. Gave concise information and no fuss. Good job by all.
Kudos to your crew there. Really clear, confident information being passed from the stern.
Please don't forget the give a shout out to the exceptional crew / line handlers ... well done Cappy 🎉😊
That was AWESOME! I love the operational videos and watching all the technique that goes into parking one of those beasts. And you clearly have lots of technique in your toolbox. Thanks for the ride-along.
A lot more involved than a simple "left hand down a bit" lol. Nicely done Tristan. The owners boat is in safe hands.

Great to see you back. It's been a while!
That docking looked so stressful. Well handled!!
You know you're good when the guy on the neighboring boat stops watching your progress when you're only a third of the way into your slip.
He was busy watching Morgane! Have another look, he doesn't take his eyes off her, mind you, you can't blame him😜😜
@@rogerblackwood8815. Was he videoing the manoeuvre with his phone ?
@@sellsidedream8766 maybe?

Well I basically held my breath the whole time you were backing in. Good lord!
At first I was like, ah man 18 minutes of video I'll skip half of it.... not a second skipped watched it with pleasure 👏👏👏
Niiice, not once did I get any anxiety from watching, which means you visually appeared to have it completely under control at all times. Great work Captain!
That's the best CV interview for anyone who wants to know if you are competent to Captain their boat !!! Very, very impressive!!
This one was really good, very good to see both cameras in action for the docking! Well done!
Finally super captain is back!! This is what we like. Bring more content like this.
Brilliant docking, when you make it look easy that's the sign of a a very competent Captain.Terry a boatman of many years on the very tidal River Mersey.
respect for your ability to stay calm captn and always treat the crew with respect 👍🏽💪🏾
So cool! It’s nice to see the other crews come out to help assist the docking!
That was such a good demonstration that I think I could do it. Not!!
😂😅😂
You're the master, Tristan.
This was a clear reminder of how well oiled the AWOL crew was toward the end everyone knew what to do when to do it and you didn't have to manage unless you made a change. Hope this new crew gets there some day for you.
I’m so impressed by your cool manner and professionalism Bravo Capitaine.
Amazing backing that in with that wind - nicely done sir!

Love it Tris ! This is what you're best at..👍👍 You make it seem that We could all do it BUT clearly we can't👍
Nice departure captain and crew! 👍👍
Slick. You got a thumbs up from the neighbouring boat a couple of times.

Excellent job TM, always great watching you execute a perfect docking with wind and tight spaces. That docking astern was great to watch. Thank you.
Well done Tristan and team that was a tight squeeze both out and in I was holding my breath a couple of times.
Excellent job, Captain. That was very exciting, and I sure learned a lot.

Excellent videos. Really great to see the more technical aspects of boat/ship management and piloting.
How advantageous are Stern thrusters? And could you install them on your yacht at some future refit? Docking was very nicely done! Picture perfect.
Well done, Tristan. Youre a master!!!!
Yes was waiting for a docking video in the wind!Lots of anxiety on my part for sure but well done!
Amazing Docking! I would love to try that sometime. Looks extremely difficult. Your definitely a Master!
Great job captain! That was stressful and I wasn’t backing that boat in!
Great video
Great maneuvers....well done captain👏👏👏👏

That was a wonderful uncut first person view. More of that!
Perfectly executed maneuvering ⚜️I liked EVERYTHING about this video⚜️Thank you!
Awesome. I really enjoy watching and learning from you. Hello from Texas, USA.
Fantastic video. I felt like I was right there with you. Great job Captain.
That was one of the best yet! Great video, great captain!
Wow, bravo Captain, well done, such skill, thanks Tristan that was amazing.😊
Great video. Fantastic to see your skills to back up the yacht to the dock.
That’s some skills have fella, that yacht is in save hands.
Well now, that was one to write home about!!!
JIM ❤
So … Do all adjacent boat Captains always look that nervous during docking?? Great job!! Thanks 👍🏻🍀

Do super yachts need to use pilot services in some marinas???
I really liked how you stayed calm in a stressful situation. Would you have done this docking when still unfamiliar with the new boat's handling?
Sure. 😅
Capt. you make it look easy. You know the deck hands nd captains on the other boat are jealous of your parking prowess.
Nice docking maneuver. I miss the strong wind (regarding to the tarp and flag on the neighbor boat).
Really good video. Interesting to see you cope in a situation requi a lot of attention whilst being asked questions. Superb
Congratulations on having nerves of steel! My nerves would be shredded trying to park between those super yachts (and that is with no wind blowing 😜 )
Thanks for sharing another docking video; well done, captain!
Awesome, nowhere to hide doing that, high skill levels on display
I greatly enjoyed this video. I hope you post more of your docking and departure procedures. Also since you are a private vessel, who are your guests? Family or friends of the owner?
Great job I was getting stressed for you. I don’t miss those days.
