At 6:00 when Sora reforms he technically isn’t actually complete at all and is still a glorified heartless with a form similar to his body because of his heart’s strength. The entire point why Ansem the Wise wanting to restore him in Chain of Memories/Beginning of KH2 is so that he can be merged back with his nobody. The memories are basically a side reason
The Greek letter χ is actually pronounced 'Kai' by like all of Europe... which is annoying so you'll find people over here calling it the X Blade because it's shaped like a f***ing X

IIRC, it was so they didn't need to create a whole bunch of original characters to fill out the non-disney supporting roles in the first game. Which is why they are mostly constrained to traverse town.
@@alphamone Nomura actually clarified it and said why theyre not in KH3 at all. It's because they didn't want a bunch of OCs running around doing things and world building an unproven franchise. FF characters existed just to sell copies of the game. When people got invested in the KH OCs by the time KH3 came around, the team decided to give the Final Fantasy natives the ol' Fugo treatment.

My headcannon for that moment is: Kairi, being a princess of light, was able to ground sora to the world of light, giving his heartless the same shape as his "somebody", but probably has a heartless symbol on his chest like "terranort ansem", while "terranort ansem" was already consumed by darkness so his heartless kept his "somebody".
@@ani3343 I read the KH1 novel. Sora’s “Mom and Dad” are mentioned in one line at the beginning and never again. Even when Sora thinks about wanting to get back to the islands with Riku and Kairi, he never thinks about anyone’s family. Kairi and Riku’s parents are never mentioned at all.

At one point in KH2, Xemnas asks all the main characters why they hate the darkness. Mickey responds with “we don’t hate it, it’s just kind of…scary”, meaning there is no legitimate reason for this light/dark conflict to exist and I find that hilarious.
Yes there is. Xehanort believes that darkness and light need to exist in balance with one another, kind of like yin yang. But the world's are unbalanced as people utilize darkness for their own purposes. This naturally creates conflict with light because again, the two things natural try to exist in balance. Xehanort wishes to essentially delete reality and build a new one where everything is in balance. The rest of the characters are like damn we don't wanna be deleted. To access Kingdom Hearts though, the X-Blade must be forged. To do so, seven hearts of light must battle thirteen hearts of darkness. Hence the entire conflict of kingdom hearts 3.
Riku adds on that it's about "who's hiding in the darkness" that they hate so much. Considering the Dark Team is pretty okay with mass destruction out of curiosity and hunger for power, the Light Squad has an excellent point for fighting them at every turn. Old Man Xehanort experimenting on unwilling subjects, bred monsters that feed on normal people to expand their numbers, and destroyed multiple worlds... because he was interested in a fairy tale/creation myth? Stopping one guy set on causing an apocalypse is a pretty good reason to fight back.
The worst inaccuracy was saying Xemnas turns into a ship when he really becomes a sick ass dragon that throws skyscrapers, and then he becomes a zebra.

An important thing to note is that in KH2 the Secret Ansem Reports specifically state Namine is not a true Nobody. She's her own special being kind of "Nobody".

I was confused before... and I don't think I'm any less confused. Kingdom Hearts feels like a fanfiction made my a middle-schooler who likes Disney and Final Fantasy, and watches a lot of anime.
Jim Ballard it's like Cats. In forcing you to confront that it exists in all its… self… you have to deal with the fact hat the world is such that this thing was possible. That you paid money for them to throw colors and sounds at you for a really long time, and there isn't anything under that. There wasn't a point. There is only you, and your choices. It's a f***ing existential crisis
And Birth by Sleep is a fanfic about the writer's OCs that are responsible for possibly the most critical single event in the canon characters' lives. And it miraculously manages to be the best fic in the entire anthology.
Its what makes it fun, its an organized chaos kinda like a puzzle where every single puzzle piece is a different shape but still somehow connects to one another
I can only give props to Kairi who was blessed being the only person who was eligible to be both a princess of heart and guardian of light, which exponentially increased her foundation and in turn, her ability to do nothing
I actually think the “Recusant Sidgel” thing is p neat. Re-naming a person by adding what is basically a magic rune to their name to control them is a pretty slick idea, in a Spirited Away kinda’ way, especially if you can conveniently pronounce said magical rune like a letter.

The thing I find stupid is that it comes out of nowhere that the X is used to track people. Like use some sort of foreshadowing to hint that it has greater purpose than just to label the members of organization 13. Like maybe you could have included a scene where Xemnas was able to perfectly track Roxas or something like that, and have the moment where we find out how that was done in DDD. Then it wouldn't feel like an ass pull like it is right now.
Kairi does have a personality, it's called "girl" That's right, Kairi's whole personality revolves around her being a girl. No wonder Sora likes Riku more.

Nobodies are beings who shouldn't exist and are without their own identity. Hence why they're called "nobodies" rather than "no bodies"
Xemnas actually didn't turn into a boat, he owns a dragon that he sicked on Sora and Riku, while his Black Coat turned into a White and Black Striped Coat. That's about right.

In a nutshell: Kingdom Hearts is essentially crossover fanfiction. (Edit): also, Sora's story should had ended at KH II, because everything that happens after KH II with Sora is random af and retcon overdrive. BBS could had been it's own series set in the same universe instead of being a prequel. I don't get why they keep trying to cram _everything_ into a single story when they could just make separate entries. It's like the people who made these games never heard of the word "spin-off."
Written by newbie writers. How to write good crossovers? Mix the worlds. Don't throw your characters in, don't replace them, then Take time for both sides. Good example? "Steal Her Heart", Persona x BNHA

Crazy thing is Union Cross’s story took like 8 years to develop and has the most batshit insane story with so many twists and vague secret plans, and this guy barely touched on it, probably cuz it wasn’t completed at the time. But the craziest thing is it actually is pretty interesting and kind of makes sense, and it is vital to everything in the entire series. Also it’s just better because there is way less cringey dialogue like “my friends are my power” and junk, although there is way too much filler.
Wait! So a heart without a body is called a heartless and a body without a heart is called a nobody? Why isn't a heart w/o a body called a nobody and a body w/o a heart called heartless? This is so backwards that it hurts.
Something something metaphor, something something blame Xehanort when he called himself Ansem, he named both, and both names are about as backwards as he could make them. It's something about Heartless acting heartless, and nobodies theoretically not even being meant to exist, but the latter is mostly his rhetoric to keep the Organization members depressed and easier for him to convince to help him.
Because heartless have hearts. The heart becomes a heartless because it's a heart. This is clearly the most pure form of logic, no one can contest this!
Repliku actually knows he’s a clone and he’s ängsty about Riku getting to be a real person. Barry changed it for a joke, hence the “Good Enough” part of “Good Enough Summary.”
It's more like: Nomura: "This is my fanfiction! Please, Disney, let me publish!" Disney: "No." Square: "But we can make money outta this." Disney: "ok, i'm in." * Some selling later * Disney: "Nomura, i dont know what the hell you did, but do a sequel" Nomura: "but there's no way to make a sequel..!" Disney: "I don't care. It makes more sense when you play all the games in the correct order and gather all the lore in the games as you play them. The order is commonly confused, it's Birth By Sleep, Kingdom Hearts, Kingdom Hearts 358/2 days/Kingdom Hearts re:chain of memories, Kingdom Hearts 2, Kingdom Hearts Re:coded, Kingdom Hearts 0.2, and then Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance. Technically, Back Cover and Unchained χ are also a part of the storyline, before Birth By Sleep even, but they're not really essential to the storyline. Everything important is told in other games. Kingdom Hearts 3 is obviously the latest but I actually haven't played half of these games, or rather, I've started most of them and discovered the order that way. Honestly if you play Birth By Sleep and collect all the lore that's hidden and play Kingdom Hearts and collect all the lore that's hidden, most everything makes sense. Except for Kairi fixing Sora's heart,,, That's still a mystery to me at least.

Honestly, it's the fans and guys like Shiro Amano who care that much about Kairi. Sure, it seems like Square Enix is handling the character better, but it's barely enough from what I've seen so far. As for me, I'm one of the proactive fans trying to give Kairi a more engaging story. I'm not only attempting to rewrite the story of the first three games, but I also want to transition Kairi into the role of the main protagonist.
I remember playing some of the KH games and not really caring much for a lot of characters (but still liking the games), and then later found the manga versions and absolutely adored the characters i previously had troubling remembering the names/existences of (aside from Demyx who was whooping my kid ass and making me rage). Dammit, i want potato chip addicted Xaldin, supportively strong Kairi, puppy-loving good-friend Xion, bossy egotistical Vexen (and his pride for making homemade pickles), Saix and his inability to use any technology, the hilariously trolly Dusk Nobodies (so much personality and fun...not shown in the games), and Cid's Bellyful Stew (of dumping everything in the nearest refrigerator in a pot and hoping it makes something edible). The only characters from the games that had enough presence to not be cardboard cutouts with fancy attacks were Demyx (for being a slob), Axel, and Riku.
I love how that moment with Xemnas rearranging Sora's name for Roxas seems like a joke but that's legit how it fucking happened in the in game cut scene.

Remember that one time in chain of memories when Axel said "Got it memorized?" and it was like a neat bit of foreshadowing that makes sense in context. I'm so glad he says it every other sentence now, like god forbid he manage to get through a scene without referencing it.
Ok as good as it is- why does he change eye and skin colors. Supports my theory that the writers just played around with word fridge magnets until they got something close to not a complete jumble
You pretty much skipped over how there's only 1 Keyblade in Kingdom Hearts 1, so much that it's a plot point where Riku and Sora fight over which of them is more worthy and it moves between them. But then in the prequel it's just supposed to be normal that not only are there many Keyblades but many people are worthy to wield them and training with them.
There are three keyblades in KH1 though. The Kingdom Key Sora uses, Kingdom Key D, which is seen with that rat at the end, and the Keyblade of Heart with which Sora commits sudoku.
Okay, Kingdom Hearts is convoluted and what we can easily absorb is just as ridiculous in context, but as a writer I am envious that they're able to keep the story evolving in such increasingly insane ways. My biggest weakness is like, "I don't know, the end." I WISH I could be this insane.
The trick is Kingdom Hearts will do literally anything, while you probably feel the need to have something sensible happen. Have the confidence of someone saying "Xehanort is gonna assemble an elite squadron of disparate instances of himself"

@@ani3343 I read the KH1 novel. Sora’s “Mom and Dad” are mentioned in one line at the beginning and never again. Even when Sora thinks about wanting to get back to the islands with Riku and Kairi, he never thinks about anyone’s family. Kairi and Riku’s parents are never mentioned at all.

The slow zoom in at 15:15 with Naminé trying to get into the shot is just... perfection.
At one point in KH2, Xemnas asks all the main characters why they hate the darkness. Mickey responds with “we don’t hate it, it’s just kind of…scary”, meaning there is no legitimate reason for this light/dark conflict to exist and I find that hilarious.
Yes there is. Xehanort believes that darkness and light need to exist in balance with one another, kind of like yin yang. But the world's are unbalanced as people utilize darkness for their own purposes. This naturally creates conflict with light because again, the two things natural try to exist in balance. Xehanort wishes to essentially delete reality and build a new one where everything is in balance. The rest of the characters are like damn we don't wanna be deleted. To access Kingdom Hearts though, the X-Blade must be forged. To do so, seven hearts of light must battle thirteen hearts of darkness. Hence the entire conflict of kingdom hearts 3.
I mean, the darkness people keep blowing up worlds and murdering dudes, that seems like a legit reason.
The conflict only exists because of the heartless and people wanting power otherwise it would just be real life but with big key shaped swords
most conflicts don't exist because of hate but for some kind of economic reason. Maybe Mickey wants to harvest the dark and turn it into fuel :>
Riku adds on that it's about "who's hiding in the darkness" that they hate so much. Considering the Dark Team is pretty okay with mass destruction out of curiosity and hunger for power, the Light Squad has an excellent point for fighting them at every turn. Old Man Xehanort experimenting on unwilling subjects, bred monsters that feed on normal people to expand their numbers, and destroyed multiple worlds... because he was interested in a fairy tale/creation myth? Stopping one guy set on causing an apocalypse is a pretty good reason to fight back.
The worst inaccuracy was saying Xemnas turns into a ship when he really becomes a sick ass dragon that throws skyscrapers, and then he becomes a zebra.

I actually think the “Recusant Sidgel” thing is p neat. Re-naming a person by adding what is basically a magic rune to their name to control them is a pretty slick idea, in a Spirited Away kinda’ way, especially if you can conveniently pronounce said magical rune like a letter.

@@drewforchic9083 it actually does make sense. When you say someone is "heartless" you basically are saying they're a cruel, uncaring monster and that's what the heartless are. Nobodies are beings who shouldn't exist and are without their own identity. Hence why they're called "nobodies" rather than "no bodies"
My favorite part of any anime showdown is when the antagonist turns into a boat.
Xemnas actually didn't turn into a boat, he owns a dragon that he sicked on Sora and Riku, while his Black Coat turned into a White and Black Striped Coat. That's about right.

(Edit): also, Sora's story should had ended at KH II, because everything that happens after KH II with Sora is random af and retcon overdrive.
BBS could had been it's own series set in the same universe instead of being a prequel. I don't get why they keep trying to cram _everything_ into a single story when they could just make separate entries. It's like the people who made these games never heard of the word "spin-off."

Crazy thing is Union Cross’s story took like 8 years to develop and has the most batshit insane story with so many twists and vague secret plans, and this guy barely touched on it, probably cuz it wasn’t completed at the time. But the craziest thing is it actually is pretty interesting and kind of makes sense, and it is vital to everything in the entire series. Also it’s just better because there is way less cringey dialogue like “my friends are my power” and junk, although there is way too much filler.

Something something metaphor, something something blame Xehanort when he called himself Ansem, he named both, and both names are about as backwards as he could make them. It's something about Heartless acting heartless, and nobodies theoretically not even being meant to exist, but the latter is mostly his rhetoric to keep the Organization members depressed and easier for him to convince to help him.

It makes more sense when you play all the games in the correct order and gather all the lore in the games as you play them. The order is commonly confused, it's Birth By Sleep, Kingdom Hearts, Kingdom Hearts 358/2 days/Kingdom Hearts re:chain of memories, Kingdom Hearts 2, Kingdom Hearts Re:coded, Kingdom Hearts 0.2, and then Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance. Technically, Back Cover and Unchained χ are also a part of the storyline, before Birth By Sleep even, but they're not really essential to the storyline. Everything important is told in other games.
Kingdom Hearts 3 is obviously the latest but I actually haven't played half of these games, or rather, I've started most of them and discovered the order that way. Honestly if you play Birth By Sleep and collect all the lore that's hidden and play Kingdom Hearts and collect all the lore that's hidden, most everything makes sense.
Except for Kairi fixing Sora's heart,,, That's still a mystery to me at least.

Honestly, it's the fans and guys like Shiro Amano who care that much about Kairi. Sure, it seems like Square Enix is handling the character better, but it's barely enough from what I've seen so far.
As for me, I'm one of the proactive fans trying to give Kairi a more engaging story. I'm not only attempting to rewrite the story of the first three games, but I also want to transition Kairi into the role of the main protagonist.
I remember playing some of the KH games and not really caring much for a lot of characters (but still liking the games), and then later found the manga versions and absolutely adored the characters i previously had troubling remembering the names/existences of (aside from Demyx who was whooping my kid ass and making me rage).
Dammit, i want potato chip addicted Xaldin, supportively strong Kairi, puppy-loving good-friend Xion, bossy egotistical Vexen (and his pride for making homemade pickles), Saix and his inability to use any technology, the hilariously trolly Dusk Nobodies (so much personality and fun...not shown in the games), and Cid's Bellyful Stew (of dumping everything in the nearest refrigerator in a pot and hoping it makes something edible).
The only characters from the games that had enough presence to not be cardboard cutouts with fancy attacks were Demyx (for being a slob), Axel, and Riku.

You pretty much skipped over how there's only 1 Keyblade in Kingdom Hearts 1, so much that it's a plot point where Riku and Sora fight over which of them is more worthy and it moves between them. But then in the prequel it's just supposed to be normal that not only are there many Keyblades but many people are worthy to wield them and training with them.
There are three keyblades in KH1 though. The Kingdom Key Sora uses, Kingdom Key D, which is seen with that rat at the end, and the Keyblade of Heart with which Sora commits sudoku.

Okay, Kingdom Hearts is convoluted and what we can easily absorb is just as ridiculous in context, but as a writer I am envious that they're able to keep the story evolving in such increasingly insane ways. My biggest weakness is like, "I don't know, the end."
I WISH I could be this insane.
The trick is Kingdom Hearts will do literally anything, while you probably feel the need to have something sensible happen. Have the confidence of someone saying "Xehanort is gonna assemble an elite squadron of disparate instances of himself"
Kingdom hearts makes sense. It's just too hard to understand it. And there are a few plot holes here and there.
