That's not even the half of it. Now you have to understand KHUX ( Kingdom Hearts Union Cross), which takes place before Xenahort and tells the story of the First KeyBlade war, where you will learn about the previous incarnations of The First Organization 13's Nobodies who will probably play a bigger part in KH4 and the KH games to come

Just Incase anyone was wondering, all of the names with X in them are just anagrams of the names of characters in their original form. I’ll show you: Xehanort = No Heart Xemnas = Ansem Roxas = Sora Axel = Lea Those are just a few but you get the idea. Every character with an anagram in their name is linked with another. Either they’re a nobody version of their original selves or their anagram alludes to something else.
I’m still trying to get used to the fact that “Lea” is pronounced “Lee”. That feels so wrong. They couldn’t just make is somebody name “Ale” or something...nah that’s just as bad. Axel is such a cool name. :(
@@1_.Unknown._1 The X is "explained" in DDD - it's called "The Recusant's Sigil" and Xehanort can use it to track people (in addition to presumably having other, yet to be revealed, properties). Luxu may or may not be an exception to the X-names thing.
Wooooooooooooo I can't wait getting my copy at midnight in my local Gamestop Update/edit my GameStop sold copy's of the game on the 28th at 9pm due to an impending storm it was a good night very good night
The reason they love X’s in nobody’s names is because that is how they are tracked, by the X’s in their names. The X’s are actually pronounced as keys (it’s a Greek letter) it’s a complicated but awesome detail.
I remember loving KH1 and when KH2 came out, the whole first part of the game I was like "what?" I never realised a ton of side/back story games came out in between lol
@@lifeonmars03 when CoM came out, I thought it was just as good if not better than KH1. I thought the story was great and Sora actually had a personality in it rather than just being a generic main character that screams friendship at everyone. Plus the card system was super interesting
Same here I skipped chain of memories cause I didn’t want to play a handheld GbA game with some shitty card system after the luxury of the ps2 with 3D environments and normal combat. To say I was confused when playing KH2 would be an understatement especially during the intro cinematic. While watching I was like who the F are all these people, and where the hell is this, and when did this happen?? 😅
I only played the 2 main games, the rest just seemed like cannon fodder to me, named stupidly among other things. All this 1.5, 2.5, HD remix, dream drop fuck off, very off putting.
Kingdom Hearts: Simple and straight forward story. Kingdom Hears COM: Hmm, basically the first game but with a new villain group. Not too bad! Kingdom Hearts 2: They've expanded on the villainous group from COM and introduced a bunch of new characters as well as a new enemy called Nobodies. Guess I can follow that. BBS: Wow, they have really expanded this game's universe! This is cool though. Days: Jeeze, what's with the spin offs. Where is KH3? Coded: Oh God, here we go again DDD: Wut KH3: The fuck is going on...
I swear this series idea must have been made by someone when they were drunk or high. Seriously the best explanation I can give to a newcomer of the series is this since I was a kid. “This is a crossover series between Final Fantasy and Disney that’s focus on original characters. There’s this thing called keyblade ms which can control or affect the heart/soul of people. There’s this thing called Kingdom Hearts that might be heaven or something. Just play the game and you’ll understand better with realization that Disney and Final Fantasy work well together.”
It's not really hard to understand if you play through the game you're get it. Saying it's overly convoluted is not really. Clearly you have not played the BlazBlue series which is much worse now that is convoluted.
@@BobbyTheGamerOfJUSTICE I mean its just not a smooth saying. I see what theyre going for they're trying to get their May the force be with you but it feels hand fisted. Its outta nowhere
Absolutely great simple video! If anyone was wondering, the weird names with Xs in them are intentional. X seems to be a bit of a symbol for the organization (maybe because of Xehanort’s obsession with the chi blade?). In DDD they mark Sora with an X to follow him through his exam, and each Organization member’s name is an anagram of their human name with X added in. Xemnas is Ansem + X , then mixed up. Roxas = Sora + X. As a side note, I’ve always wondered is Xion is a visual anagram for No 1 (no one) since she never was a person.
Gemnist it also has a double meaning in Japanese. Take out the x and you’re left with “ion,” pronounced EE-ON in Japanese, which speaking to chemistry, has a non-zero charge. Finally, Xion’s name contains the Japanese words for "tide" (潮 shio) and Aster tataricus (紫苑 shion), which, according to Japanese floriography, means "I won't forget you" or "remembrance".
the thing with organization 13 is their names are an anagram of their original names with an X added to them Roxas = Sora X Xemnas = Ansem X Axel = Lea X
TO FURTHER CLARIFY: Ansem, Seeker of Darkness, is a classic case of stolen identity. While the real one is rotting in the Realm of Darkness, Xehanort uses this time to trick everyone that he's the REAL EFFIN' DEAL and not some poser. This plan backfires at the hands of Sora in KHII, when he realizes the jig is up. KHIII analogous to Char's Counterattack in Mobile Suit Gundam.
Correct as Ansem Seeker of Darkness is the heartless I believe of Xeahanort and Xemnas is his nobody. While Diz is the real Ansem aka Ansem the Wise in disguise.
Plus can anyone really explain any of that mess? Nobody knows who the MoM is or why he disappeared or what's in the box and his keyblade etc. So it's probably best to leave that out until they come up with more details
@@atlas_vash well techinally i think the keyblade no man was handed over to luxu and either 1: luxu opened teh box 2: handed the keyblade directly to MX since time travel has been confirmed in DDD. OR 3: he handed it to an apprentice and over the 100s or 1000 of years the keyblade has been passed down in generation to generations. but we do see someone in the kh3 trailer that has a keybalde with an eye on it that *kinda* looks similair to the noname blade.. so why is that? and what purpose does the keyblade have
@@sumireravenclaw8034 well yeah the keyblade was given to luxu and we have no idea if he opened the box or not and that'll probably not be answered in this game, and yeah of course he passed it on because xehanort has it so either eraqus and xehanort were his direct apprentices given the timeline or the second set of apprentices, and yeah the eye from no name can be seen on a few different keyblades but mostly ones for terra and riku and that's probably because they're directly connected to xehanort and it was passed to them

@@jaronhoward1926 I don't think they gonna revive Roxas. It should be the same as the "death" of Axel. Since Roxas is a simili, Ventus is going to wake up and remember everything as a simili so his story with Axel/Lea.
The thing is that Roxas is Sora’s nobody. Not Ventus. Ventus has nothing to do with Roxas and they only look alike because he was already in Sora’s heart when Sora basically committed suicide lol causing Roxas to take on Ventus’ image. That’s why Vanitas looks like Sora but is the other half of Ventus. And literally nothing that you mentioned happened lol. I was looking forward to those things as well 😭😭 i wanted Ventus and Roxas to interact with each other! Maybe the next game..
They were too attatched to Sora and had no restraint as writers. I bet they they had all of these cool scenes in mind, and then had no idea how to logically connect them all, so they made the poor connections up as they went along.
Also to be fair when Sora defeats both Ansem: Seeker Of Darkness and Xemnas this also rebuilds Terra-Xehanort's body while Xehanort's body is also reconstructed unknowingly.
I've been trying to make a fanfic universe of the "Kingdom Hearts" saga. And after A LOT of research of the saga's lore, its fanfics, the lore of "Once Upon A Time" and the original Greek mythology...I think I am ready to start writing it.
It's fairly simple if you played through all the games. The problem is on paper it doesn't make sense. The way the it's written sorta makes you wise to how the rules of the universe work early on, which makes everything else pretty straight forward.
@@onepunch2310 This is why I just tell my friends who want to get into the series to either play the games or watch the cutscenes. By nature any explained video will be confusing.
This was just what I needed to finally start kh3. I wanted to go into it with knowledge of the story. I gotta say I missed a shitload when I played these games as a kid, chain of memories on my gameboy advance. I am so glad Kingdom Hearts 3 had such an excellent compilation of the games to establish the backstory to play; I must say I was familiar with a lot of it and could keep up and not get confused when I watched the memories in the game. Also, did anyone see an extreme similarity between Ansem and Orochimaru from Naruto?
9:23 There’s a reason why the members of Organization 13 have X in their names. In Birth by Sleep, Xehanort calls the keyblade the X-blade and says this: “X...a most ancient letter. Some say “kye,” but the meaning is the same. Death...a letter that spells endings.” So since Xemnas, a half of Xehanort, took over Organization 13, he put the symbol X into every member’s name. I think they explain this in 358/2 days.
Of all the simplified KH storyline videos I’ve seen, this one is the best! Simple ( as you can get with this game) and you took your time with it and didn’t give yourself a time limit. I really enjoyed this video. 😊👍🔑 💙
Thank you SO MUCH for making this video. I tried watching the one that explains the whole plot that’s 30 minutes twice and still didn’t understand. I think I do now.
I see Kingdom Hearts like how I view life. When I was young, I KH was simple and with the world at my feet. Now, I realize how complicated it is with depressing stories.
Thank you Leaderboard I've been trying to figure it out for the past week now. Now I understand it better. I used to know this stuff when I was younger but forgot over the years.
If you want a whole timeline search up everglow kingdom hearts timeline its way better than this explanation cause they missed out some very interesting and important part
I feel like it should also be mentioned why ventus looks like roxas and sora looks like vanitas...because that hella confused me for a good while. Infact I’m still not 100% sure on it but from what I’ve gathered, when Roxas was created after sora extracted his heart, Ventus’ heart went with sora’s nobody and stayed with roxas until ya know roxas went back to sora, roxas actually had a heart in 358/2 days it just wasn’t his own. Vanitas is a bit more confusing...if we take what the novels say as missing gap filler then when vanitas was born he didn’t have a face, he only developed a face after sora helped ventus which still doesn’t really make sense but it’s kingdom hearts so
Vanitas looks like Sora because Nomura thought it would be neat.Nomura has this nasty habit of getting neat ideas but difficulty in actually connecting that neat idea harmoniously with the story. To his credit though, it's not like people aren't continuing to buy the games despite it.
I once tried to explain to my brother how complicated Kingdom Hearts can be, it started and ended with me saying that there were 13 villains who were all technically 1 villain due to splitting soul/heart/body into pieces, time travel, and body snatching. He asked why that had to be, I just said welcome to Kingdom Hearts. His brain started to melt when I said there was also 1 protagonist that has like 9 independent versions of himself at the same time. (Sora, Roxas, Ventus, Vanitas, Xion, Shadow Sora, ReCode Sora. . . guess technically 7. . . it had to be 7😮💨)
Replaying through Kingdom hearts 2 (first time playing through Final Mix) and man, i feel bad for Roxas. they couldn't just let him live his final few days of summer in peace and kept messing with him. It's so sad his entire existence he's been fighting and always losing only to get brought back up to be messed with again. :'(
Thank God for this!! I could never finish the games, they got too hard for me in the last couple levels. And I never bothered with the spin off games. This is SO helpful to catch me up for KH3 next week.
Kingdom Hearts is a big heart-shaped moon in the sky, and a great power source. Master Xehanort wants to control it, and has made many copies of himself (aiming for 13 because numerology) in the hopes that pitting 13 darknesses (his clone army) against 7 lights (the good guys) will somehow give him that opportunity after at least 3 previous attempts to control it or create an artificial version all failed. His schemes have included using time travel to bring his younger self to the present day, and splitting himself into a "Heartless" (his heart, going by "Ansem, Seeker of Darkness") and a "Nobody" (his body, "Xemnas") to get past various limitations on complete people, so those versions of him may be running around. From about a decade ago, we have three lost Keyblade-wielders - Terra, Aqua, Ventus - Terra's body was possessed by Master Xehanort's heart when Xehanort's old body was defeated. We know his heart was still linked to some part of Xehanort (probably Xemnas) fairly recently. Aqua fell into the Realm of Darkness where she's trapped until someone can find a way to rescue her. Ventus's body is asleep in a hidden chamber of Castle Oblivion, waiting for Aqua to rescue him, while his heart is asleep inside Sora's. Sora is the main playable character of the series, usually travels with his friends, Donald Duck and Goofy, and alternates between thwarting Xehanort's plans by saving the worlds, and falling into Xehanort's traps and losing his levels. Sora's best friends are Riku, another keyblade wielder, recently granted the rank of Master, who has gained an immunity to darkness after being possessed by Xehanort's Heartless, and wrestling with the temptations offered by its power, and Kairi, who has recently acquired the power to wield the Keyblade and is also a Princess of Heart - one of seven who have no darkness in their hearts, and are important to the worlds continuing to exist for whatever metaphysical reason. In Kingdom Hearts 1, Kairi's heart took refuge in Sora's, until he released it, along with his own, turning him into a Heartless briefly until Kairi's Princess-of-Heart powers restored him. However, brief though his time as a Heartless was, that also created a Nobody, according to the usual process - and a second Nobody linked to Kairi and her heart. Sora's Nobody, Roxas, taking on Ventus's appearance due to his heart also being involved, also inherited the ability to wield the Keyblade, though he didn't get any of Sora's memories, and was recruited by Xemnas, Xehanort's Nobody, as the 13th member of Organization XIII, a group of powerful Nobodies. Using Kairi's Nobody, Namine, and the special properties of Castle Oblivion, one of the Organization's members, Vexen, created two replicas - the Riku Replica, who was a straight-up copy of Riku, and Xion, a limited replica of Sora, designed to absorb and hold his memories, who also worked for the Organization for a time, alongside Roxas. Xion sacrificed herself so Roxas would absorb her and Sora's memories she held, then Roxas merged with Sora, meaning Sora holds Ventus, Roxas and Xion within himself. Namine also merged with Kairi. Roxas and Xion's best friend within the Organization, the Nobody Axel, sacrificed himself helping Sora, causing his original self, Lea, to reappear. Unlike Xehanort/Xemnas, Sora/Roxas and Kairi/Namine, normal Nobodies look like their original selves, so Lea looks like Axel. Lea is now a confirmed good guy, having rescued Sora from Xehanort's latest scheme, and has managed to manifest his own Keyblade, and is currently with Kairi, being trained. Rounding out the roster of contemporary keyblade wielders is none other than Mickey Mouse, who managed to acquire a special keyblade from the Realm of Darkness with the help of his old friend, Master Aqua, who he's now ready to try to rescue with Master Riku's help. Any clearer?
Fragmented passage ruins blank points, the secret ending of birth by sleep due to the fact that it takes place during the end of kingdom hearts 1 and a year before birth by sleep, meaning the fact that Terra and Ventus are still lost and that Sora's been saving the disney worlds shouldn't be a surprise to Aqua once Ansem the wise tells her, like it was supposed to be. It was supposed to be a really satisfying scene where she first hears SOMETHING about the realm of light and how this boy she met 11 years ago became this awesome keyblade wielding hero. If Mickey had told Sora about meeting aqua in the realm of darkness at this point in time, he could have finally saved her after 11 years, creating a much better bridge to KH 3. Don't get me wrong, blank points would still be confusing, but it'd be a better narrative in the grand scheme of things.
Sometimes I wonder how Nomura came up with everything passed KH1 . Like this story is so deep and metaphorical. I feel like he’s talking about angels vs demons in a fight for the key to heaven
I love it. Ppl get upset how convoluted and crazy the KH timeline gets. But it reminds me when we were kids and created characters and stories with our toys. The good guys find strength, defeat the bad guys, but all we want is to keep playing. So we kept coming up with new ways for the bad guys to come back, more powerful than ever, and new challenges for the good guys to overcome, no matter how insurmountable they may seem. We used outrageous and sometimes ludicrous creativity to keep our characters going. I think that's one of the reasons KH is special to me. It brings me back to the outrageous creativity and outside-the-box thinking of childhood. Now that I've got a 2 year old showing his own fun child creativity, and another baby on the way, the KH3 jump back into childhood couldn't be coming at a better time!
I know this video is two years old, but fun fact! Ariel was almost a princess of heart, but for whatever reason, Antlantica's story didn't cover Ariel getting legs and a land-walking model for Ariel, which would be necessary for her to appear in Hollow Bastion, was never even created.
Thank you so much for taking time to create this video. I didn't play the spin off titles and the confusion was real.... This video helped out tremendously!!!
9:23 "this series really likes names with X in them." There is a reason for all the Xs and I'm surprised it wasnt picked up on that much. All of the Organization's names are anagrams of their true forms with an X added, which also is because Xs can be seen in the logos of heartless. Examples, Sora = roXas, Lea = aXel, Ansem = Xemnas. And Xehanort = No Heart, just as an JYI.
Im just imagining Xehanort who finally archives his goal to reach Kingdom Hearts but finds out that everything was a lie and Kingdom Hearts is just a big prison :D
Thank you so much!!!! This was so helpful! Spent the entire month catching up on story by playing 1 and 2 and watching all the cutscenes I can and this was just what I needed! I still have some questions and curiosities but this will suffice!!
Following story explanation considering Maleficent can be complicated for some newcomers , but just to summarize it for a few people here ( since her role is quiet important in 3 i guess ) : Maleficent got stabbed by Riku's "special keyblade" and ended up many many years (even before birth by sleep) in the timeline of "Kingdom Hearts Unchained X". There she learned that she is trapped in a data world and not in the real one ( which makes the "Re:Coded" game canon aswell , which nobody thought until a few months ago ). There she meets a mysterious person who we still dont know and learns that she can return.
Also to explain HOW she was even able to, the Data version of herself existed at that point in time. Remember, Xehanort said that time travel can only work if a version of yourself exists at that point in time. And in Malificent’s case, her data self. This means there are no limitations as to what version of you will allow you to time travel. This means that Ventus, Marluxia, and all of the Disney characters that appear through the data simulation and the Book of Prophecies have the ability to time travel to the point of time of the Keyblade war. All because their data versions (as well as the versions that were projected from the book of prophecies) exist at that point in time. But in the case of Marluxia and Ventus, they can time travel because they literally existed back then. Somehow.
What do you mean by "which nobody thought until a few months ago"? At the end of Re:Coded Mickey finds out about Aqua, Terra and Vens fate and writes the letter, Sora recieves at the End of Kingdom Hearts 2. So how would this not be canon, it's clearly connected to the other games.
Wow… I only played 1 and 2. It’s crazy that after everything Sora does as the protagonist (to us at least) he is met with “lol nope not a keyblade master”
The Playstation 4 is a solid purchase, it has a large library of games, the controller is also amazing, and you can play on the internet, by buying games you support all those guys that spend decades making films, games, etc... Money is not the sole motivation, but it does come in handy especially when you go get some Frosted Flakes.
The X in their names are like a cross between their real selves and their dark counterpart, like Roxas take out the X and you can put up Sora, Zexion becomes Ienzo and so on just Kairi doesn't make sense to me unless Naminé means something I'm unaware of.

Five minutes in... that was the best explanation I've seen so far for BBS and Ansem/Xenhanort. Thank youuuu
Just Incase anyone was wondering, all of the names with X in them are just anagrams of the names of characters in their original form. I’ll show you:
Xehanort = No Heart
Xemnas = Ansem
Roxas = Sora
Axel = Lea
Those are just a few but you get the idea. Every character with an anagram in their name is linked with another. Either they’re a nobody version of their original selves or their anagram alludes to something else.
We don't know what Xehanort is an arrangement of. It could be No Heart, Another, or even A Throne. Or knowing KH, it's somehow all three at once.
I’m still trying to get used to the fact that “Lea” is pronounced “Lee”. That feels so wrong. They couldn’t just make is somebody name “Ale” or something...nah that’s just as bad. Axel is such a cool name. :(
I believe the X comes from the X in X-blade, it's really weird how they spell it as chi-blade and it sounds like keyblade
@@1_.Unknown._1 That's because it's a Greek symbol. And it translates a bit weird. So it comes out sounding like Keyblade.
@@1_.Unknown._1
The X is "explained" in DDD - it's called "The Recusant's Sigil" and Xehanort can use it to track people (in addition to presumably having other, yet to be revealed, properties).
Luxu may or may not be an exception to the X-names thing.

@@sageninja7260 yesss, 9/10
The reason they love X’s in nobody’s names is because that is how they are tracked, by the X’s in their names. The X’s are actually pronounced as keys (it’s a Greek letter) it’s a complicated but awesome detail.
Can you elaborate on that a bit?
This piqued my interest in the whole X naming thing
Ro(x)as name is a mix up Sora’s name. Nobody’s that need to be unlocked... All the other nobodies share the same thing
the many x's come from x-blade..in greek x is pronounced as chi or he and lets say chi-blade sounds like key-blade
Imagine if Xehanort is a nobody of someone..

It’s actually No. i, or Imaginary Number. That’s just the name Vexen came up for Xion when he created her, I suppose.

TO FURTHER CLARIFY:
Ansem, Seeker of Darkness, is a classic case of stolen identity.
GaiaX5 makes sense huh
No Master of Master, Luxu, The Foretellers, the Black Box????? Some big pieces missing from the story.
Just fuck Union Cross. It's not relevant until KH3 and that's if they focus on it enough to begin with.
Plus can anyone really explain any of that mess? Nobody knows who the MoM is or why he disappeared or what's in the box and his keyblade etc. So it's probably best to leave that out until they come up with more details
I feel like all that stuff isn’t gonna be answered in kh3 but will be left for the other games after it
@@atlas_vash well techinally i think the keyblade no man was handed over to luxu and either 1: luxu opened teh box 2: handed the keyblade directly to MX since time travel has been confirmed in DDD.

Dood ikr
It's fairly simple if you played through all the games. The problem is on paper it doesn't make sense. The way the it's written sorta makes you wise to how the rules of the universe work early on, which makes everything else pretty straight forward.
I understand it by playing it but it’s a mouthful trying to explain it to others
Death...a letter that spells endings.”
So since Xemnas, a half of Xehanort, took over Organization 13, he put the symbol X into every member’s name. I think they explain this in 358/2 days.

Really? I don’t find it that confusing
@@rmsgrey thank you for that. ^_^

I can only imagine the amount of work this video took. Thank you for catching me up to speed. Starting KH3 finally.
They knew what they were doing in kh1 when that figure in the brown coat says those 5 words "this world has been connected"
"simplified KH timeline"??
Lmfao🤣🤣🤣
While I was reading your reply, I got stuck on the word model, in my language it means a simplified form of a phenomena.

Thank you so much!!!! This was so helpful! Spent the entire month catching up on story by playing 1 and 2 and watching all the cutscenes I can and this was just what I needed! I still have some questions and curiosities but this will suffice!!
Thought I should learn more about sora since he is in smash now and I’ve never played the games before.
*I still don’t understand*
*Slaps Sora like a toyota* This boy can fit so many hearts.
13:34 you forgot that the piece of soras heart that broke when axel did that became a Keychain for the keyblade sora weilds
I knew all of this but I watched it anyway. It’s always good to have a refresher before kingdom hearts 3! 😂
Following story explanation considering Maleficent can be complicated for some newcomers , but just to summarize it for a few people here ( since her role is quiet important in 3 i guess ) :
Maleficent got stabbed by Riku's "special keyblade" and ended up many many years (even before birth by sleep) in the timeline of "Kingdom Hearts Unchained X".
Somehow.
Norted DetectiveBobbyFulbright TheSpiritofJUSTICE And Larxene!
I can tell kingdom hearts are a good game I even played the whole game , AND IM STILL LOST ☹️
Ansem and Sephiroth never truly gone
The X in their names are like a cross between their real selves and their dark counterpart, like Roxas take out the X and you can put up Sora, Zexion becomes Ienzo and so on just Kairi doesn't make sense to me unless Naminé means something I'm unaware of.
I think it's because 1) Naminé is not an organization member and 2) her name is from a word related to the ocean, just like Kairi's.
A kingdom hearts timeline video that doesn’t have cringe pronunciations of the characters who would have thought?
AshenShards1 _ I was actually referring to ign about the pronunciation thing
Zenehort and Eraqueze
Roxas is a garbage character no one cares about
*use a fan made mmd model for a kh3 banner *
*Ahhhhh man I sure love ign*
s.leeves _ that quote will never be forgotten by the kingdom hearts fandom 😠

@AshenShards1 _ Tell that to all the Americans who can't say Cecil and Zidane correctly.
After the dlc came, its even harder to remember every fcking thing about this game
Great video. I recommend searching for "Kingdom Hearts: Official Character Relationship Diagram" and looking at that graph while this video is playing to better understand all the characters and the relationships between

The equal parts of shade and fascination with the Kingdom Hearts story make me so happy!!
Ansem seeker of darkness is called Ansem because he stole his master (Ansem the wise)'s name when he unlocked the darkness in ansems apprentice's hearts and took over his master's lab, corrupting ansems followers and banishing Ansem the wise to the realm of darkness. It's actually one of the less convluted aspects of the story lmao.
