There was something so special about this guy! I don’t know what it is but I just feel it by looking at his pics and seeing what so many people have said about him. The world lost a special light…a light that we desperately need during these dark times in this world. 17 souls innocently taken just so completely unfair! Joaquin definitely left a mark by showing what love truly means! Just being yourself wholeheartedly and being a loving human being. Rest In Peace You will not be forgotten and neither will the other 16 souls that left that day.

The girlfriend reminded me of a couple I knew in high school. He was unfortunately in a car wreck his senior year and died. She was a mess, rightfully so, and it took a while for both her and her mother (who was the art teacher and he was in my art class, roll call was rough for weeks because he was an amazing human and it was truly everyone's loss) to come back. The school held his funeral and the words she and others spoke to describe him were so beautiful and true to who he was. As short and blunt as that is, I say it to say that the same young lady I'm speaking of is now a nurse, married to a great guy, and has a gorgeous little girl. I wish that same happiness to this young lady. She deserves it and based off her & his family's words, he would want her to have it.
My younger cousin also died in a car wreck his Senior year. His girlfriend was so affected but I’m glad my aunt took her under her wing to share the pain. Honestly listening to this testimony brings up so many feelings about that time it’s almost unbearable to watch. But I’m trying to show my respect.

i’ve been watching these statements for a while now and sometimes i catch myself wondering why i keep watching it when it makes my heart sink. it’s because these aren’t things we can’t just turn away from. these are people and it’s suppose to hurt because their loss is so important and their families don’t deserve this pain. the least we can do for them is listen to their stories and help make a difference
The way I see it, we are all listening and feeling empathy, esp those of us who are parents. Or siblings. Etc. Though we do not know these families, I believe we are showing honor, respect and an empathic love for who these young people were. We get to know them for a few minutes and get a small piece of them in our own hearts. It helps them to not be forgotten.

Most people are not against all firearms but just want strict laws. In Mexico, gun laws are very strict, its a very long process and theres a limit to how many you can own, the type of gun and for what purpose (for example, hunting or personal security) Also, the only store for them is in a military base this is why almost all guns used for violence there were guns purchased in the U.S and smuggled in so its not just the U.S that can benefit from strict laws. I understand that maybe its not a fair comparison because Mexico does not have gun culture and the U.S does but its something to consider.
This broke me. I have 3 daughters and a son, we’re all exceptionally close, but my wife and my son have a bond I can only describe as spiritual. I can’t imagine how she’d ever begin to live again in a situation like this. I can’t imagine how we’d begin to live again should we lose any of our babies. These poor families.

And there’s something about Tori’s loss of Joaquin that just breaks my heart in a new and devastating way. To lose such an early, pure, young love at that age… it’s both heartbreaking and heartwarming to hear her speak of Guac the way she does.

His beautiful family came down to El Paso, Texas during the Walmart incident we had. Today is the 3rd anniversary. His birthday is on the 4th. We released butterflies in honor of him and the victims, and even sang happy birthday to Joaquin. I will never forget them. May god bless them always. He crawled in there after getting hit in the leg and Nikolas walked up to him, aimed the gun at his head and pulled the trigger. Guac put his left hand up and looked away from the bullet, but the bullet went through his hand, causing his own hand bones to become shrapnel. The inside of his skull had such a dramatic pressure change, that the bullet and bone fragments created a "cherry bomb" like explosion on the inside of his head. Scalp tissue and forehead skin was the only thing keeping his head connected to his body. EDIT: The family learned and seen these photos in court today. This is their statement. Knowing this added more gravity to their words. It's super sad.
Such a beautiful boy I am heart broken. My 2 half year old son is sleeping next to me sharing my pillow as I watch this. He to is a loving sweet boy who always wants to be in my arms. I can’t imagine ever losing him ever and I am just so sorry for this unimaginable pain.

I think we spend so much time glorifying fame and riches that we forget the most extraordinary people are the ones right next to us. The ones we sit next to on the bus. The ones who offer to pay for our orders at the coffee shop. The ones who hold the door open for us at the store. All of these people killed in this event were extraordinary people, and those they loved are just as extraordinary by association. It’s sick that these kinds of testimonies reflect the everyday lives that so many Americans are now having to live; without their loved ones lost tragically soon to gun violence and mass shootings. Whether someone is 5 or 95, there is never an age at which a life is not stripped away too early, especially in this type of circumstance. Things need to change and if these victim impact statements are not enough to get anything done, then I fear we may never fix this plague on America.

They have to give him a good defense fight so anything that they sent like they qill have taken out. And to think about it like this they don't want hin to get an appeal for them not doing their jobs 100 percent so they are putting up a good fight not to prove he is innocent they got hmm to pled guilty but a fight to not get death. To be honest him staying locked up 24/7 I'd worse then death anyways. He will suffer in there. Those defense lawyers don't want those families to go threw this again an suffer even more trauma then what they already got to deal with. If the families start attacking this pos then it will affect the jurors. Also the judge could have ruled before they did their impact statements that they are to speak to the judge the da an to the jurors an not to say anything bad to the pos or threaten him or do anything that could lead to a mistrial or get an appeal. Those families want to but was warned not to.

My husband passed away in 2007 and I still can hear his voice and remember what he looks like. There are a lot of parents who don’t show love to their children like this family. And that is incredibly sad Meeting these adults now you can see the differences within them. A sadness,a lack of connection with others and some who have a hard time showing love and empathy themselves. Parents you know who you are, now I’m not judging you, you yourself may not have received this kind of love from your parents and I’m very sorry, you deserved it. It’s not too late, you may feel uncomfortable at first but the love you will see coming from your children will help you move past that. Please hold hug kiss etc your children !!!! You never know it could make the difference between your child being more like one young man here or the other.
I was brought up rough, but I don't blame it on the world. Some times that happens to us, but I'm not a bad person. I love people. I take my bumps, get back up, and start over. That's who I am. I always want to try to improve. The narcissists are the worst people in the world. I've had some bad experiences. Sure. But, I have also met some of the best human beings in the world: Mostly doctors and nurses and the Catholic Staff. I was in the hospital in 2019, and, for a long time, I lost the use of my arms and legs, but, God Bless those beautiful people, they took care of me anyway. I love them so much.
I just want to add that no one really finds out what it's like to become a helpless human being unless he/she has been one before. I have been one. It's horror. Those narcissists who can take a gun and kill a person are the worst creatures on our planet. I could never shoot someone. Yeah, there have been times when I was so mad that I thought that I could do it, but when it comes right down to it, I could not do it. As I get older, I get more gentle. I want to be remembered as being a nice person who has made some mistakes, but I'd never intentionally do harm to another human being because I love you all.

In Mexico, gun laws are very strict, its a very long process and theres a limit to how many you can own, the type of gun and for what purpose (for example, hunting or personal security) Also, the only store for them is in a military base this is why almost all guns used for violence there were guns purchased in the U.S and smuggled in so its not just the U.S that can benefit from strict laws. I understand that maybe its not a fair comparison because Mexico does not have gun culture and the U.S does but its something to consider.

Getting to know the families of all the victims and survivors through interviews and testimonies, I feel sad for each one of them in different but equal ways. And there’s something about Tori’s loss of Joaquin that just breaks my heart in a new and devastating way. To lose such an early, pure, young love at that age… it’s both heartbreaking and heartwarming to hear her speak of Guac the way she does.

He crawled in there after getting hit in the leg and Nikolas walked up to him, aimed the gun at his head and pulled the trigger. Guac put his left hand up and looked away from the bullet, but the bullet went through his hand, causing his own hand bones to become shrapnel. The inside of his skull had such a dramatic pressure change, that the bullet and bone fragments created a "cherry bomb" like explosion on the inside of his head. Scalp tissue and forehead skin was the only thing keeping his head connected to his body.
EDIT: The family learned and seen these photos in court today. This is their statement. Knowing this added more gravity to their words. It's super sad.

I think we spend so much time glorifying fame and riches that we forget the most extraordinary people are the ones right next to us. The ones we sit next to on the bus. The ones who offer to pay for our orders at the coffee shop. The ones who hold the door open for us at the store. All of these people killed in this event were extraordinary people, and those they loved are just as extraordinary by association. It’s sick that these kinds of testimonies reflect the everyday lives that so many Americans are now having to live; without their loved ones lost tragically soon to gun violence and mass shootings. Whether someone is 5 or 95, there is never an age at which a life is not stripped away too early, especially in this type of circumstance. Things need to change and if these victim impact statements are not enough to get anything done, then I fear we may never fix this plague on America.

The defense lawyers read everything before the families get on the stand an if there is anything in there that they don't like they will tell the judge an DA an have the gmailiy change it. They have to give him a good defense fight so anything that they sent like they qill have taken out. And to think about it like this they don't want hin to get an appeal for them not doing their jobs 100 percent so they are putting up a good fight not to prove he is innocent they got hmm to pled guilty but a fight to not get death. To be honest him staying locked up 24/7 I'd worse then death anyways. He will suffer in there. Those defense lawyers don't want those families to go threw this again an suffer even more trauma then what they already got to deal with. If the families start attacking this pos then it will affect the jurors. Also the judge could have ruled before they did their impact statements that they are to speak to the judge the da an to the jurors an not to say anything bad to the pos or threaten him or do anything that could lead to a mistrial or get an appeal. Those families want to but was warned not to.

I just wanted to say to Joaquin's sister you will never ever forget what your brother looks like or forget his voice. He is always with you, and you can hear him if you listen. My husband passed away in 2007 and I still can hear his voice and remember what he looks like. You my dear lady had very powerful words you spoke, and I said on another page that when you gave the death look to Cruz I was cheering you on. I said if looks could kill, he would be dead. There are a lot of parents who don’t show love to their children like this family. And that is incredibly sad Meeting these adults now you can see the differences within them. A sadness,a lack of connection with others and some who have a hard time showing love and empathy themselves.
Parents you know who you are, now I’m not judging you, you yourself may not have received this kind of love from your parents and I’m very sorry, you deserved it. It’s not too late, you may feel uncomfortable at first but the love you will see coming from your children will help you move past that.

I was brought up rough, but I don't blame it on the world. Some times that happens to us, but I'm not a bad person. I love people. I take my bumps, get back up, and start over. That's who I am. I always want to try to improve. The narcissists are the worst people in the world. I've had some bad experiences. Sure. But, I have also met some of the best human beings in the world: Mostly doctors and nurses and the Catholic Staff. I was in the hospital in 2019, and, for a long time, I lost the use of my arms and legs, but, God Bless those beautiful people, they took care of me anyway. I love them so much.
I just want to add that no one really finds out what it's like to become a helpless human being unless he/she has been one before. I have been one. It's horror. Those narcissists who can take a gun and kill a person are the worst creatures on our planet. I could never shoot someone. Yeah, there have been times when I was so mad that I thought that I could do it, but when it comes right down to it, I could not do it. As I get older, I get more gentle. I want to be remembered as being a nice person who has made some mistakes, but I'd never intentionally do harm to another human being because I love you all.
Peace and comfort for all the families and friends as they share there Families member s. Jesus lift them up!
