@@adamlongdong4941 - another thought here is that creativity is not limited to those artists who have achieved commercial success through "popularity". As a singer/songwriter with a back catalog and performance experience, I can tell you that finding an audience for your work these days requires alternative (read "non-label") methods. I applaud Mary's methods to find an audience of fans who appreciate her creativity.

So many people are totally missing the point! What Mary did was a bit of fun: take an intro leaked by Adele and try to imagine what the song would be. The result is not a "version" of Adele's song - it is completely different song. OK - the title is a bit cheeky, but she makes it clear in the first 30 seconds of the video what her intentions were. As for comparing the result - I think that this is irrelevant. One song was written and sung by Adele, recorded and produced by professionals with all the time and budget in the world to make it perfect, and one was written and recorded by Mary at a friend's studio in a couple of days while on holiday in Spain. Adele's song is, of course, brilliant. What a voice, really! Marys song is also really, really good, and beautifully sung with a lot emotion. I love it! Appreciate each artist for what they do. I say - hats off to both women. And to Mary - don't stop doing these videos, whatever the haters say.

What is fascinating for me is that Easy On Me seems like self-parody anyway: the slow piano ballad, Adele in an empty house, makes a phone call, loses signal, sits amongst the dust singing her song. I think she's saying 'that is the past me, now I've moved on'.

I have a lot of musician friends whom I've seen perform many times. But I've never seen that side of the creative process.
I'm a copywriter by profession, and I'm often asked to write in a particular voice, but never in the almost literal sense. This was such a pleasure to watch. Thank you for sharing this with us.

I love this! There are some parts I really believed, especially the chorus. I don't know whether some of the chords are 'spicier' than what Adele would usually use (although I'll admit I don't know her catalogue anywhere near as well as you do), but a fantastic job regardless 🙂

This video was great insight into what effort goes into creating a song. It also demonstrates Mary’s talent in song writing. I’m sure there is some legal mumbo-jumbo that causes videos like this to get demonetized, but if Adele and her record label fail to acknowledge Mary’s contribution to this song ,well, that will be just completely disgusting.
Mary Spender did not contribute to ADELE's song. That's an absolutely disgusting suggestion for something that was unsolicited and self entitled and deserves to be demonetised. Adele owes this person absolutely nothing, it's her song!

This was an outstanding effort and build - like the finished piece. There’s a verse chorus in there that’s amazing
I just watched Adele's video. Considering the amount of material you had to work with, you came really close. It is of course a different song, but the vibe is similar, and if Adele herself sang it, nobody would be surprised but think it was her song.
Your piano playing fits the songe nicely. Your vocals on this track do not sound like Adele - they sound like your own wonderful self.

I predict a Take-down order for this one. It sounds so good and very "Adel", and stands a good chance of being better than the actual Adel song.
In my opinion, I don’t really think Mary’s version will be better than Adele’s song (Mary does come close), I do however think Mary’s version will be just as unique, if not more.
This is a joke right? Don't get me wrong here as what Mary has done is very good. But let's not mistake the fact that we are talking about ADELE! I think it’s just a fun challenge to try and guess the song from only hearing an early snippet. It’s not stealing and releasing a song to take away from an artist. It’s just a bit of a fun experiment.

Stumbled across this and thought it was fun and cute, however you are playing with fire I'd suggest Mary. Trading off other brands and IP, in this case Adele's, is a dangerous game; if her legal team wanted to rinse you out it wouldn't go well for you. I know your headline - "I Wrote Adele's New 2021 Single" is supposed to be tongue-in-cheek click-bait but you're making a claim. Also, by attempting to 'complete' her song you step into an area where if your musical structures happen to match in some way the music she releases, legally you could claim SHE has stolen from you; that's another incentive for her legals to attack you. In the cold light of day you are trying to build your brand off the back of hers and that could backfire especially if this activity got more widely exposed in the mainstream media.
Hi Michael, I think you might be a bit overly worried and missing out on the playfulness of the project. I can't imagine Adele's people wanting to take legal action against Mary, as an independent RUclipsr, who has made no direct monetary return from the project. Probably the worse thing that would happen is that they ask her (or RUclips) to take it down. And why do that? Mary has potentially informed hundreds of thousands of people that Adele had a new song out which is worth listening to.
It's pretty normal for people on RUclips (and in the history of music) to use other people's music as inspiration and there is already others out there reviewing the song.
I reckon you can just relax and enjoy both songs and the thrill of the cheekyness of it. I think they'll both be fine.

If you read my comment carefully I note the way she has gone about this with the headline "I Wrote Adele's New 2021 Single" - that combined with 'pre-writing' the song is very different to someone doing a cover for fun on YT. Dealt with a lot ent. IP and I can see this being problematic for MS if she keeps taking on major artists like this. End of comments from me.
Yeah just took a chill pill and because of the title, I mean the song is being released so it's already written. Already had a copyright before she tried guessing how the rest of the song was written. Music has a pattern. Not that difficult to figure out. There are some however don't always follow the pattern, but most times it's there

1:49 What keyboard was that?
I've been looking for a midi keyboard with all keys the same colour (all black is cool)! As a guitarist I find it strange that the keys have different colours on the piano. They're all equally "valid" notes.
It looks like the Arturia MiniLab Mk II Inverted Portable USB-MIDI Controller (Black). The green on it looks just like painters tape with writing of what is assigned to those keys.

First, I have no special insight when I write this, so take it with a bag of salt.
But I think the video being demonetized has more to do with channels that try to draw views away from official releases, being a nuisance than it does any sort of artistic contribution from a respect creator like Mary.
Obviously Mary is not trying to spoof people into thinking her video is some kind of official release for Adele's new song.
But there are channels out there which do try to draw views away from official channels to their channel, and record labels and artists wind up having to throw a wide net to catch them all.
That results in higher instances of videos like Mary's being demonetized.
I genuinely would be surprised if there was any kind of deliberation or conscious decision-making that resulted in the demonetization.

Mary, I wanted to tell you that I really enjoy watching your videos and listening to your music. You have an awesome amount of talent, and I really don't know why you aren't more popular. People are missing out. I also wanted to thank you for broadening my horizons. I always had a negative impression of singer-songwriters. I thought that they were all about money and fame. But you have taught me that you can be a singer-songwriter because it's just fun. And it is. I have so many ideas swimming in my head, and I just wanted to say thank you.
