I picture Mary's singing voice as flowing out through an old wooden beer barrel. A voice that picks up all the texture and earthlyness from the timber before it gets heard. It would be really suited to celtic music with that devastating mid range.
Most singers voices are the equivalent of the modern aluminium barrels.

Mary, it actually doesn't seem that long since 'Mary Spender Inc.' really started gathering momentum. Yes, your studio looks lots more 'professional' but more importantly, if it's now your creative happy place and it works for you, then mission accomplished. ( for now) Normally, it takes months after moving to a new town, before you really settle it and it becomes 'home'. So the fact that you've accomplished that and kept producing great content through our ongoing pandemic is a huge achievement and says lots about your grit and determination to produce and progress. I've learnt in watching your videos, albeit more intermittently than in the past, because my interests have changed a bit, that you are a very good judge of what is right for you, at a given period of your life. No matter what your decision process is, it appears to be one which will always work for you. Life is so much happier for me on a coastline and I hope that your time in Brighton is the same for you as well as everything else that you want it to be. Kindest, from a sunny Portballintrae ;)

Great video and the place is looking fantastic. Especially the diffuser.
If I have one request, it’s to either do an audio book or maybe a spoken word poetry album. Your singing voice is of course amazing. But your speaking voice is equally great.
Also when I lived in Falmouth I had a family of herring gulls nest on the chimney. That was fun 🤫

Re: String Swings. I’ve used them for over 15 years for guitar, violin, viola and ukulele and will likely never use another brand! Love them and being surrounded by all my instruments-regardless of temp or humidity. Although I do make sure it doesn’t get too hot or cold so as not to actually damage them.

I love what you've been doing over the years. When you say "most of my successful videos..." I assume you mean your most viewed videos. This implies # of views = success, and this surely follows the narrative of most. These are the numbers you have available on this platform but I would say that there is a value to your content that is not easily measurable and thereby is hard to fathom for content creators. How you keep inspiring people simply is not expressable (is that even a word? sorry, I´m German) only by numbers. No matter how good or bad your videos' numbers seem to be, do not be fooled. Your content matters so much beyond numbers!!

Hi Mary I just spoke with Juha Ruokangas , I own a 20 year old Duke Deluxe that embodied the lessons he learned building this guitar. He was thinking about women that are excellent players and I mentioned that I followed you. He said he also watched your videos and said he was very impressed by your skills. Are you aware of his videos? He is always kind and answers some of my questions. He knows the man I buy my guitars from all left handed, He likes my friend Jerry of Jerry’s lefty guitars where I get my instruments so we have that in common also. You truly a gifted inspiration. Thank you ⚡️🖖🏽⚡️

I'm happy for you!! It feel so good to have a space. I just made a studio space in my large mudroom and laundry room. Keep it up 💜

Just a suggestion on lighting. You might want a light to the side (perhaps your left side) and back pointing forward on your back/head. It will bring you out of the background a bit more. Especially when you wear darker clothing. It will make your silhouette "pop" a bit more. I think all you would need is a soft or defused light. For what it's worth. Love the set up and the new look!!

The blue light is like your PRS. For drawing, light from the left illuminates a pen point in your right hand. For lefties it would have to come from the right. The point creates the shadow rather than is within a shadow. Yes, this matters.

May I suggest a hair light? Illuminating your hair and shoulders will separate your from getting lost blended into your dark background. You can search online for how portraiture lighting or directors of photography for film shoots arrange lights, so you don't get lost like you are in this vid. :-)

I would love a nice studio like that one day. Right now I live pretty much in a converted office/warehouse and got about 60 guitars so the walls are covered and still most of my collection won't fit. I do need to sell some to thin the herd but they are all my favorites. Guess I will ask high and whatever sells, sells. Would also love a RUclips channel one day but I know nothing about how to do it. Need to start researching.
