The atmosphere and connection music from the past gives us is rarely encountered with today's offerings, yet she delivers on both counts, admirably.

Adele has an outstanding voice and the best musicians playing with her. And, as a rock lover, to me one of the most important is that she dosen't use autotune. She put all the cards on the table showing all the wonderfull imperfections, simply due to her human condition.

Oh, agreed. Every time I listen to this song, I hear the flaws (they're much more apparent to me in this song than any of her previous chart-toppers). Her pitch isn't always right on, and there's a...a threadiness, a kind of buzz, in her high notes, and on a very picky level, that bothers me because she is such an excellent singer in general. BUT. I love it that the emotion and expression in her voice show through the flaws. On top of that, the lyrics of this song are about making it through difficulties, and the imperfections in her vocal delivery underscore the meaning of the song.
      I'm a fan.

I think what makes this song so good is several things. First, her voice is unbelievably beautiful. The arrangement of the song is simple yet well done.
But her words take you to a place of pain in your heart that you can relate to or if you have never experienced it yourself, you wonder with a childlike wonder about what sort of thing pain like this is, which means you have a heart and an understanding of humanity.
My 4 year old daughter showed me this song and I cried in front of her and so did she. She’s never experienced anything painful in her young life but she relates to pain. It really blows my mind how complicated human beings are.

You have no choice can’t lose control ... And What’s harder than playing is writing music... if this is how she expressed herself imagine what she was going through.

There’s never any hint of ‘too-cool-for-school’ snobbery; just the bare, intrinsic fundamentals of whatever it is that he’s presented with. His analysis of popular music is second to none. Its nice of you to compliment Rick, but you've got his talent exactly backwards.
Nobody has a greater capacity to teach that there is fundamentally OBJECTIVE merit in that which others would dismiss as merely SUBJECTIVE--that there are "just (appropriate) sentiments" toward things.
Rick is the type of teacher lauded by C.S. Lewis in The Abolition of Man: "Aristotle says that the aim of education is to make the pupil like and dislike what he OUGHT.”..... “Until quite modern times all teachers […] believed the universe to be such that certain emotional reactions on our part could be either congruous or incongruous to it-believed, in fact, that objects did not merely receive, but could MERIT, our approval or disapproval, our reverence or our contempt.”.... “The man who called the waterfall sublime was not intending simply to describe his own emotions about it: he was also claiming that the object was one which merited those emotions.”

When my 87 year old grandmother, 61 year old mother, me at 39 and my kids 7-14 can all agreed that she's an incredible singer...that means she has true prefect talent! And I've seen her live twice and it's always either the same as the recorded version or better! Usually better because depending on how she's feeling the song, the crowd, her emotions she sings it that way by adding words or changing words or the emotions hit at different parts of the song that's not hit on in the recorded version. It's magical actually. And the reason her songs sound the way they do is because she sings and records each of her songs just once. For the demo, start to finish and that's the song that's released, period. She said at one of her concerts that the song we hear recorded is the first time it was all put together, it was all of her raw emotions she was feeling while writing the song being put together for the first time. And if she can't do that in one take then the song doesn't make the cut. She goes so long between albums because her songs are hers and based off her real life at the moment she wrote it, she can't sing songs that she didn't write and make a album based off someone else's feelings that she had no part in. So she has to live a life to make a record. And it's magical! I hope I'm 80 years old and able to hear Adele's 60 record 😂

I really appreciate how you point out that there are imperfections in her vocal performance. Obviously you did not mean that negatively. In a time where everything is autotuned and quantized to death, a real musical performance with slight imperfections is a breath a fresh air. This reminds me of someone pouring out their soul and just letting everything out. That’s so powerful and relatable. The overly quantized/autotuned music today doesn’t hold a candle to this.

Some imperfections are actually planned such as a crack in the voice to display sadness.

This video is the first time I'm hearing this song and it nearly brought me to tears. I'm a child of the 70s and 80s and all the classic rock of the time, but this is exquisite. Your analysis is spot on and Adele is otherworldly.

The first time I ever heard Adele was when my father, a lifelong musician told me , “ listen to this girl sing , she’s amazing, occasionally she uses her voice like a sax”
Loved her ever since. She can sing.

"Quality Over Quantity👍"; that's the reason why Adele💖 takes so long between albums.
She delivers musical compositions with substance and NEVER, compromises on production.
"Real Music by Real Musicians"; here Endeth the lesson✌

Watched the “One night with Adele”. When she finished with “Love is a Game”, I thought darn, if they would have pointed all that equipment south and broadcast over megaphones I could have heard her live in Redondo Beach. She had a grown man of 63 tearing up with that song. Love what she said just before last verse. She said, it’s real music, real orchestra, real singers, real crew .. She’s a Super Star.

It’s that slight off key (like Hendrix) that seems to add this “distant memory feel” that touches your soul no matter what the words say. It is like she solved quantum physics through music moving into a higher dimension by layers of simplicity: I love Adele, the songs she sings about a lost love, I find in her
