I find that if I limber up before exercising (pushups, jogging, situps) by watching this routine on my computer and following along, I don't hurt myself, despite some of the movements being rather deep, like the horse stance. In past years, I would do 24-step tai ji quan for a day or two and find I'd strained something, and have to stop. You are a good teacher. Now let the student learn.
in Shaolin MaBu the knees and the feet don't point forward parallely. they naturaly turn outwards. in Southern China, they do it like this, the knees squat forward and they keep the feet unnaturally parallel pointing forward; it's wrong.
This qigong originated by a taoist , Hu , about 1500 years ago . His version got 5 standing movements , 1 sitting movement , 1 stimulated back skull by the fingers movement , and 1 set of upper and lower teeth hitting lightly 36 times ( front teeth first , then side teeth ) . Its purpose is to absorb more energy from outside to inside the body for more smooth energy circulation . The final goal is to facilitate sitting meditation ( esoteric alchemy ) . # 1 to 5 is similar to the new version , which is the one in this video . # 6 is the sitting position to stretch your back by gripping your feet with your hands , which is similar to the # 6 standing movement of this video . In the old version , there was no # 7 and # 8 of the new version . This qigong supposes to be done slowly and smoothly as the Wudan taoist school . Its purpose is esoteric alchemy achievement . When you see it with fast movement and power coming out , it is kungfu for fighting purpose ? Most of the 8 brocade qigongs that you see now a day started around 1000 years ago . There is so many new versions , due to so many reasons that you could think of . If you like it , I suggest the Wudan taoist school version . If you feel comfortable , calm , relax , and energetic all day after doing the qigong , that means - you are doing it RIGHT .

學習八掛步
對不起,我想說,這種練法大約80% 是體育運動的練法,只有大約20% 是氣功。真正氣功的練法是有定式的,因為要等待有足夠的內氣到達終到點,才可以轉做第二個動作,否則疏通經絡的效果很低。第二,每一個式子都要運用意念去誘導內氣運行,這樣才可以達到哪個式子通經絡的效果。第三,所有動作都要慢,要柔和,要放鬆,不可以用力拉筋,拉筋會導致肌肉僵硬,阻礙內氣運行。第四,內氣運行是很慢的,所以如果動作太快,內氣就跟不上,這樣治病健身的效果會很低。第四,身體不應該又升高、又坐低,否則會令到內氣上浮,容易造成虛火上升,而且還會阻礙內氣由任脈下降到丹田,或者阻礙內氣下沉到腳底來打通腳部的經絡。
八段錦是一套優良的氣功,所以能夠流傳八百多年,可惜,現在流行的八段錦已經將它降級,把原來氣功的練法改變為體育運動的練法,實在是辜負了前人一番精妙的設計,我們是有責任把它回復以前高級練法的。而且練氣功一定要明白它的原理,否則很容易練錯,很容易練出氣功偏差。

@@mochen1293 要練,掌握一個要領,陰陽平衡。八段錦者拔斷筋也,不論伸展,緊握,都以力盡為度,然後同樣重要的是,極緊之後的極鬆。這極鬆也很重要,一般人看沒有動作了,其實就是太極拳的鬆。一般練太極拳的人就是沒練過八段錦,所以不知何謂鬆。
