Patrick Smith, I was thinking the same thing about the music from the 60's thru the 80's. I'm 63 yrs old and I know for a fact that the music back from the day was the best ever. All of our children were raised on the same music that we were raised on. One time on the way to the beach in 1996 we were listening to music from the 60's thru the 80's. We had I played a game with my children and their cousins. Who could guess which music groups song was playing. The kids guessed it way faster than I could. Lol
I used to envy my parents' generation because they had Motown & the British Invasion, but I'm finally appreciating my generation's music of the 70's & 80's with The Eagles, Wings, EW&F and The Sweet.
I think the reason why Mick Tucker was using his hands and tossed over his drumset was because the band was lip-synching, not playing live, and they weren't too happy about that. There's another part where you can see Brian Connelly stop singing in the middle of a line while the camera's on him, but you hear the words anyway. Lots of TV shows were known to make bands pretend to play over their studio recordings when they came on, with varying degrees of cooperation by the acts. The British show Top of the Pops notoriously had a hard time getting the Pixies to come on for the same reason.
There's a notorious performance on Australian TV by Frank Zappa and The Mothers Of Invention where they were ordered to lip sync their performance. Zappa simply mouthed "MF" (the actual words) while the track played. lol. Peace.

Hi there, Ballroom Blitz and Fox on the run were the two major hitsongs which got them into the U.S charts - Mick Tucker was the drummer. They have been my favourite group in my youth - i´m 61 now and still loving their music. They were highly underrated in their times.
The Sweet were the most successful Glam Rock Band of the 70s, and were very successful in Germany alone with 8 Nr1 Singles until 1982 after the Beatles!
The Sweet is a fun 70's glam band. The band, originally called The Sweetshop, formed in London in 1968. This song Ballroom Blitz was released in 1974. Their other 2 hit songs were Fox on the Run (1974) and Love is Like Oxygen (1978) The interesting this about these 3 songs, none of them sound like the same band.
Since you liked this song, highly recommend their biggest hit "Little Willy". One of my top ten 45's of all time! Let the GLAM Rock group The Sweet live on!!!!
Mick Tucker was the drummer, and he was awesome. They were lip syncing, and it appears he wasn’t too crazy about that. They were a really good live band, from what I understand.
He was doing a copy of Keith Moon "The Loon" DESTROY his drum kit. Check out The Who live on the Smothers Brothers Show. It was also on the movie "The Kids Are Alright!" Also check out Deep Purple "Mandrake Root (Live London 1970)" to seem more of this gratuitous violence.
From my childhood in the early 70's..brilliant :) Sadly, 3 of them have passed away (RIP) and only Andy lives on. A great era of glam rock era in the UK. Glad you liked it :)
This is from a TV show. 1973. At that time many bands did not play live when they were on TV, the technology just wasn't there on a lot of these shows. If you watch again you can tell they are lip syncing. For example, the singer is singing sometimes when he is holding the mic far from his face and his lips aren't moving, and the drummer using his hands, well the drum still sounds like he has sticks. Nothing wrong with this, these guys were just having some fun. Lots of bands did not like these shows because they could not play live. The song is a Chinny-Chap song. They were a pair of song writers who had 40 some hits in the 70's. Likeable but nothing to be too serious about.
The Isley Brothers were one of the few acts on soul train that actually played live as they refused to go on otherwise . Most bands hated lip syncing . There was The old Grey whistle Test and Midnight Special were a couple of shows that bands performed live but stuff like Top of the pops they did not .
Quite a few reactors have done Nazareth "Hair of the Dog" but no one has done Nazareth "This Flight Tonight". Please could you react to This Flight Tonight. It was written by the great Joni Mitchell but the Nazareth version rocks. Joni loved the Nazareth version.
@@RobSquadReactions I'm enjoying watching your journey, keep it up! promise you that you have never EVER heard anything like Hocus Pocus in your life!!
The track "Set me Free" (Sweet) was WAY ahead of its time. You can clearly hear the influence they had on bands such as Def Leopard, Iron Maiden, Saxon, etc etc.
Most of these TV-shows, "Top of the Pops" and all of those, were playback and you can see them goof around a lot. A wonderful and great closeup live performance is "Live at Musikladen" 1974. There are some studio recorded backups on tape but this is a unique way to experience Sweet live...
One of the most underrated bands of the era, due to their taking the pop route to fame. Check out songs like Burn on the Flame and you'll be hearing the real, heavy blues-rock Sweet. Cheers from the UK.
I’ve been to many parties in pubs, wedding functions, engagement does etc..over the years, and without a doubt, one record that was sure to fill the dance floor was this.
I was late teens when this came out. Mick Tucker the drummer was one of the top drummers of the late 60s and early 70s. Many of the drummers in the emerging rock bands tried to emulate him and copied his drum rifs. The best part was that Mick didn't mind and he was always there to help a new drummer. He used to get bored easily, and he did something different almost every time he played the same tune. The band released a lot of music, but they had this and three other massive hits: Blockbuster, Fox on the Run, and Love is like Oxygen Enjoy!
Okay - this one's a little before my time but still a classic. The only thing about this video is that drummer's gold jumpsuit - lord have mercy if that poor man sneezed he'd blow out of it!
There's another TOP OF THE POPS PERFORMANCE VIDEO FROM BACK THEN that had much close-ups and accentuates the BAND and the hilarity spontaneity of LIVING THE DREAM.
This time in Britain was known for Glam rock where bands tried outdoing each other in the glam department as well as the music, bands like T.Rex ;Slade,Sweet, Bowie,Roxy Music, Suzie Q, and many more dominated the pop/rock music scene from the early 70's to the mid 70's, and musically it was just brilliant with heavy rock bands like Purple , Zeppelin, sabbath Uriah Heep; Floyd; Quo all making it a very very good time to be a teenager
As a young teenager I loved this glam rock band I am now 63 , the drummer Mick Tucker and lead singer Brian connelly have now passed on, guitarist Andy Scott and base player Steve priest are still playing as the sweet in Europe and sweet in the states,
The Sweet was my favourite group in the beginning of the 1970s. They were exciting like hell! The amazing drummer was Mick Tucker. From the original group, only Andy Scott, guitarist of the band, is left. Sad!
Wow, it's funny because I've watched so many of y'all's reactions over the last year or two and somehow this popped at my feed and I had never seen it before. Man sweet is one of my favorite bands. And your reaction is priceless. And I can tell it's that early thing with the rainbow bricks behind it. Man what a long journey it's been but it's so awesome to see you react to this. Those guys knew how to really rock but I'll say check out Love Is Like Oxygen just a few years later and they were like a tip of the hat to the Disco but they still maintain their own British Glam you know kind of thing that they were doing and it turns out to be a fantastic Opus of a song.
A Scot was the band's frontman - Mick, and he was the half-brother of a famous Scottish actor Mark McManus, who played Taggart, which was a really successful Scottish detective series, based in Glasgow.
This drum season by Mick Tucker is just a sneak peak of his talents. Their were all wildly talented and amazing vocalists. Drummer- Mick Tucker (RIP 2004), Lead Singer- Brian Connelly (RIP 1997), Bass/Vocals- Steve Priest (RIP 2020), Lead Guitar- Andy Scott.
Since you liked this song, highly recommend their biggest hit "Little Willy". One of my top ten 45's of all time! Let the GLAM Rock group The Sweet live on!!!!
Great choice.
Mine too. It's linked to an incredibly vivid and cherished childhood memory.
Opened up for those guys in Boston a while back. Even though they were MUCH older than they were in this vid, they still killed it.
Saw them in about 1999 in London, colourful, funny and talented.
Yes like 47 years on from the songs release in 1974
@@Taco2610 About on the Money there Fun Music : )
Mick Tucker was the drummer, and he was awesome. They were lip syncing, and it appears he wasn’t too crazy about that. They were a really good live band, from what I understand.
If this was top of the pops, bands usually lip synced.
Now you’re talking my language 🤪🤪💙💙🙌🏼🙌🏼
The "Ballroom" was the Grand Hall in Kilmarnock, Scotland, where a fight broke out while Sweet were performing on stage. The lead singer was a Scot.
Please react to: Sweet: -Fox on the Run -Little Willy -Love is Like Oxygen -Thanks!!!
Yes yes...Fox On The Run is a damn good song
My favourite is Wig Wam Bam 😂
@@NikkieTwix wig wam bam is basically a perfect song .
@@stuartleerichardjohnson8189 it’s so much fun! Always puts me in a great mood
definitely Love is like Oxygen
Hair of the Dog by Nazareth would be a great one to do.
Quite a few reactors have done Nazareth "Hair of the Dog" but no one has done Nazareth "This Flight Tonight". Please could you react to This Flight Tonight. It was written by the great Joni Mitchell but the Nazareth version rocks. Joni loved the Nazareth version.
Anything Nazareth
Nazareth - Woke Up This Morning. And play it, LOUD!
@@donnajean3202 This Flight Tonight is spine tingling. Cracking choice.
Mick Tucker is the drummer here!!
If you like this, try Focus -Hocus Pocus. It will blow your mind.
We will definitely check it out thank you so much for your suggestion
@@RobSquadReactions I'm enjoying watching your journey, keep it up! promise you that you have never EVER heard anything like Hocus Pocus in your life!!
😁😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂👍😍🤯
Ah yes, I wanna see that 😁
Oh hell yes!
The track "Set me Free" (Sweet) was WAY ahead of its time.
You can clearly hear the influence they had on bands such as Def Leopard, Iron Maiden, Saxon, etc etc.
the 60's and the 70's was the best music ever played...
80's dude, 80's
80's dude, 80's
Most of these TV-shows, "Top of the Pops" and all of those, were playback and you can see them goof around a lot. A wonderful and great closeup live performance is "Live at Musikladen" 1974. There are some studio recorded backups on tape but this is a unique way to experience Sweet live...
Love is like Oxygen!! It's a Crazy song!! You'd appreciate it!!
ALWAYS 🙃
THE 70s was a time for all types of music and groups, the radio was rocking! Such a variety of things to listen to! Roger in Pierre South Dakota
I went to see them when they were first starting out. Little clubs. Fun group
I was in a band in Pinner, UK with Mick Tucker in 1966, great drummer.
They used to play regularly at a local nightclub in the next town even when they became famous , had some great nights dancing along to this song 👍👍👍
Brian Connolly was the brother of Mark McManus who played Taggart.
Watch that drummer. He's pretty tricky with his sticks
The band released a lot of music, but they had this and three other massive hits:
Blockbuster, Fox on the Run, and Love is like Oxygen
Enjoy!
My preteen years were in the 70's and I remember this and them when it came out. So yeah, living thru the 70's, everyone was into this.
Muck Tucker. When you see a list of most underrated drummers, he's your number 1.
You need to check out more from them, They have their own sound!! Loved the reaction Jay!! ROCK ON!!
It was delightful to see you so fully grooving to the 70's.
Great band that had a bunch of great songs and several big hits!! ''Fox On the Run" for sure!
Nazareth "Love Hurts"...unique voice
As a young teenager I loved this glam rock band I am now 63 , the drummer Mick Tucker and lead singer Brian connelly have now passed on, guitarist Andy Scott and base player Steve priest are still playing as the sweet in Europe and sweet in the states,
The Sweet was my favourite group in the beginning of the 1970s. They were exciting like hell! The amazing drummer was Mick Tucker. From the original group, only Andy Scott, guitarist of the band, is left. Sad!
The Sweet ❤❤❤❤
