I was in London for almost two years but it was really weird because I didn't want listen to 'our' song because I was starting a new life but every now and then I just had to listen to this song. And without fail she would call me within an hour or two. We didn't have phones in my dorm - it's called a house over there - just two pay phones. So she had to get an International Operator to call a pay phone in London that one of my floor mates might or might not put money into because back then you could put £ coins into a phone.... Anyway it was a big expensive amazing thing just to talk for a few moments to hear a voice you wanted to get back to. Welcome to "Classic Rock" my son. When a group could play and sing without help. Psychedelic music was a few years earlier and Disco was a few years in the future.
Disco did not become nationally popular until 1976 or so as a music genre. I hate that when people think of the 70s they think of disco. There was so much amazing music in the 70s before disco! This song was one of them.
I love the disco era but I agree there was a whole different world that came before. I mostly think of the singer-songwriter era. Very heavy on the California (especially southern) vibe. Also I think of the rock, particularly punk, during the disco era. Hip hop started during the disco era too and all of it was going down in New York. What a time.
The disco lettering in the background has nothing to do with the music genre. "Disco" was a very popular music show in Europe on German television, the german version of the american "Soul Train"
I was amazed about that too - then I read that Golden Earring had performed this in front of - some Dutch school for the deaf! That's why they are all just sitting there! I wonder if the musicians thought the kids would somehow react to the vibrations or the dancing - but it's clear it didn't work too well.
That drum breakdown in the middle remains one of the greatest pieces of music ever recorded. The whole song is phenomenal. But those drums are just next level. I was 4 when this came out. Fair to say I've heard it a few times. It is as epic today as it was then.
Hummm... well I’m your MOM’S age! Lol 😂 (damn) born in 1975, this was my dad’s music and BLESS HIM ❤️🎸🤟🏼🎶 he raised us with a love of rock music. I was rocked to sleep to Zeppelin, Queen, Simon and Garfunkel, The Doors, 3 Dog Night, Cream!
Yes, Golden Earring in those days. I'm Dutch and remember them well. The drummer, Ceasar Zuiderwijk, is still performing. And singer Barry Hayes is still alive... Still... Best group The Netherlands ever had!
When that song was played on WQAM for the very first time it was love at first sight. I was 15 years old and I miss the 70’s a lot for the variety of sound and quality of music.
"Radio playin' that forgotten song," indeed. So many memories wrapped up in this, including driving into a new sunrise trying to get back to base before my leave expired; all while this song was on. In the 70's Frisbee sports was big and I was deep into it going into the army. Once, several of my team (including our squad sergeants and Lt.) were on the parade ground playing Frisbee on a cool but sunny Saturday morning. We had those huge but great sounding portable stereos (Ghetto Blaster) and one of the guys had one on playing rock while we were throwing disks. This song came on and suddenly everyone was throwing, making huge and incredible throws and catches. All of the moves we could muster while still being on target. My favorite was throwing over a guys head to have him turn around as it returned and catching it. It was like this song motivated us and it was always a welcome companion on the backside of a 20 hour drive. Like I said, a lot of memories and your song choices is was brought me to your channel.
Just stumbled on your reaction watching Golden Earring clips. Your reaction is truyly unbiased, and honest, thanks for that. GLobally underrated band, THEY where the the ones opening shows for Led Zeppelin when these went on their first USA Tour, Golden Earring was doing their 4th. They been around before Rolling Stones, their first no1 hit was not getting 1 beacuse of The Beatles. Had Aerosmith and KISS opening for them. Jimi Hendrix personally asked Rinus Gerritsen, the bassplayer to come play for him. Later The Who asked their drummer, Cesar Zuiderwijk to become The Who's drummer. Everybody thought they where from the USA, singer sounds American, but they are from The Netherlands. Guitarplayer George Kooymans founder of the band, together with bassplayer Rinus founded the band when they where just 12 years old. They oficcially disbanded when I believe end of last year, George was diagnosed with ALS-Disease
This band was from the Netherlands and had a 60-year career, releasing may albums and having great chart success in Europe until one of the founding members was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) in 2021.
uriah heep - lady in black or easy livin, bachman turner overdrive - you aint seen nothing yet - since you`ve been gone -- rainbow, slade - far far away, alright now - free, for you - manfred mans earthband (you might know this one from the techno version), paranoid - black sabbath, born to be wild - steppenwolf, dreadlock holiday - 10cc (i think you would rly like that one) , eagles - hotel california! just to name a few.
Brenda Lee was a big star in the 50’s and early 60’s. She was big in country music, and pop music of the day. She was what you would call today; a crossover. Great tune, I am a retired semi drive. It was always treat when this would come on the radio, in the wee hours of the morning. 😎👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
This band is from my country, the Netherlands. They were founded in 1961 and disbanded in 2021 because one of the founding members was diagnosed with ALS. They decided not to replace hum and end the band out of respect.
Love Golden Earring.. This is a Get Down tune.. Live bands in bars were super popular back then, this was one that was always requested just to get on the dance floor., and this song was popular straight into the 80's . Every band had to know this one. Those were the days..
In the states they only know 2 hits off them Radar & Twilight. They scored around 40 hits in Europe so there are more recordings off them: She flies on strange Wings, Buddy Joe, Bombay, Just a Little bit off piece in my Heart, Another 45 miles from Home, Where will I Be, Back Home, Holy, Holy Life, Instant Poetry, (Kill Me) Ce Soir and a lot more......
Their song, Twilight Zone, came out around 1982 or 1983. My middle son was born in 1998, and it's his favorite song. Of all the songs in the world, Twilight Zone is what does it for him. Radar Love was inescapable when it came out. I was a kid, but I remember it was always on the radio. Always, and no one complained.
Interesting band, I love the whole Moontan album (UK vinyl version, the version most readily available on CD replaces Big Tree, Blue Sea with Suzy Lunacy and Just Like Vince Taylor) from which Radar Love is taken but, it's a strange mix of straight ahead rock, prog and psychedelic rock.
Yes. Watch the accelerator:) yes there were psychadelics everywhere. Discotek was the original name for a dance hall. "Disco" music became a separate thing.
This is one of my favorite songs. This video is the single version of around 5:00 minutes. The album versions is 6:26, and that missing minute and a half adds a LOT of dynamics with a low, slow, smooth interlude before it picks back up. That's the part where you realize how bad you were speeding so you can back it off. Then it kicks back in and you speed worse than you were before! Headphones are a must on this one.
Whenever I am listening to radar love weather I am in a vehicle or not I just feel like as soon as the song started I was flying down the road such a great song
One of the best "behind the Wheel" and get outta the way songs I'm coming thru!! playing on the radio!!!! Not bad for a Dutch band either!! Thanks for playing!
Wow, your mom is only 12 years older than me and she was born in a great year for classic rock. Some other great songs to look into that came out that year are Grand Funk Railroad (We're an American band), Paul McCartney and Wings (live or let die), Alice Cooper (No more mr nice guy), Lou Reed (Take a walk on the wild side), The Allman Brothers band (Ramblin' Man), The Edgar Winter Group (Frankenstein), Three Dog Night (Shambala), and David Bowie (Space Oddity). Also you've already reacted to some other great songs of 1973.
I remember in the 70s, once we had moved to Spain, whenever we went back to Michigan we'd always get updates from my uncles on what to listen to. Foghat, J. Geils Band, Steppenwolf, Golden Earring, Jefferson Starship, the Cars... Those were the kind of groups we listened to back then. I have way more vinyl records of Golden Earring than CDs. Moontan is arguably their greatest record. I love the Vanilla Queen.
Barry Hay (lead singer) got to meet Brenda Lee a couple of years ago in the program Ilses Veranda. Ilse (Dutch singer) invites people to her house in Nashville and tries to let the guest biggest music dream come true! How can you sit still during a song like this ? Must have been a house rule. FYI - this is the studio version synced up to the video of the live performance.

On a visit to see cousins in West Virginia at that time we had hoth the idea and opportunity to ride motorcycles on a new stretch of highway, opened a week later as Interstate 79, that went right by their house. 90 mph and smooth as glass. I was born in ‘73 as well and my friend our generation had THE BEST music ever. We had 70s, 80s & 90s. Every every style, every race, every sex we had blues, rock, rap, hip hop, r&b, metal. We had all female bands etc. You name it we had it and rocked it all. Whatever mood you were in there was music for it. There was talent needed back then. Those of us who play instruments were introduced by these bands. When we heard an awesome guitar solo it inspired us to learn it. Even young kids today cover these old songs because they were awesome. Nowadays it’s a music machine w no guitars, no intros , guitar solos, drum solos etc. the beat starts and the singing and it’s over. We had black groups w awesome music and dance music, we had white bands, Hispanic bands etc and we all listened to it. There were black men that sang the blues and we had white men that sang the blues. No one cornered the music market so to speak. There were bands that were blended. Take The Band for instance. They had a song called “The Weight”. They did a show that featured a black band called The Staples Singers and let me tell you if you want a soulful song in a 70s vibe hit it up. We had Hootie and The Blowfish which featured a black front man. We didn’t get bent out of shape over race issues. It was music. We could all be one while listening to music. Nowadays it seems it’s one or the other which is a shame. Love your reactions my friend. Keep em coming. .
I'm a big believer in that everybody should do LSD at least once, just make sure you do it with someone you trust...because it will change your outlook on life.

The disco lettering in the background has nothing to do with the music genre. "Disco" was a very popular music show in Europe on German television, the german version of the american "Soul Train"
@@DIDISCH68 True, but those who are not around then get thrown off by that and think it’s about the music. Trying to educate people here.
you have no idea how creative and ground breaking the 60s/70s/80s were... i'm just glad i grew up with it all...
I swear 60s and 70s artists have this swag, they just make their talent look so effortless. Amazing. This is a great roadtrip song! 🔥
Radar Love is iconic. 48 years later and still groovy.
I'm amazed at how the audience doesn't move. I can't listen to this without moving!
I was amazed about that too - then I read that Golden Earring had performed this in front of - some Dutch school for the deaf! That's why they are all just sitting there! I wonder if the musicians thought the kids would somehow react to the vibrations or the dancing - but it's clear it didn't work too well.
@@dm-gq5uj but that was in german tv show “disco”, so definitely no deaf kids there 😎
I think they might have had to lip sync it too? I read about that, there wasn't any sound playing for the audience
Yup, deffo🎉 playbacking in some kind top of the pops type Programme
I know…looks like the audience is sedated 😂
Ah the good old days where it still was music without artificial colorants and artificial flavours. Pure craftmenship!
That drum breakdown in the middle remains one of the greatest pieces of music ever recorded. The whole song is phenomenal. But those drums are just next level. I was 4 when this came out. Fair to say I've heard it a few times. It is as epic today as it was then.
The year your mom was born. So really your Grandparents music.
The 70s good times to be young
No, doesn't make me feel old at all. I was a junior in high school when his mother was born. Really I'm fine
Hummm... well I’m your MOM’S age!
@@Peter-oh3hc Well Peter you got me beat I would have been 13 that year.
@@golfr-kg9ss the thing is, in my head I am still a teenager. Can't figure out why I have all these aches and pains
Yes, Golden Earring in those days. I'm Dutch and remember them well. The drummer, Ceasar Zuiderwijk, is still performing. And singer Barry Hayes is still alive... Still...
Best group The Netherlands ever had!
Barry Hayes had (has?) an amazing voice. I remember I was 13 when this song came out in the US - and I and all my friends loved it!
When that song was played on WQAM for the very first time it was love at first sight. I was 15 years old and I miss the 70’s a lot for the variety of sound and quality of music.
What about Focus with Jan Dumee
I'm partial to Diesel.
I thought they were all still alive
I am old enough to remember this first coming out on the radio, then to hear you said you mom was born that year. God I feel old not thanks.
An all time classic of the highest order.
uriah heep - lady in black or easy livin, bachman turner overdrive - you aint seen nothing yet - since you`ve been gone -- rainbow, slade - far far away, alright now - free, for you - manfred mans earthband (you might know this one from the techno version), paranoid - black sabbath, born to be wild - steppenwolf, dreadlock holiday - 10cc (i think you would rly like that one) , eagles - hotel california! just to name a few.
She also had one of the biggest Christmas hits with Rocking Around The Christmas Tree.
See my reaction to Rob today. You might be interested 😉
she haid a song called "comin on strong".
so thats what he's listining to in the car brenda lee's, comin on strong.
The mother of the singer (Barry Hay) was a big fan of Breda Lee, he and mother listened a lot to here music
Barry Haye actually went to visit Brenda Lee not too long ago.
This album is a killer. So much more than just this song. Vanilla Queen, Candy's going bad, Are you receiving me.
great album indeed
I love the album.
Greatest. Driving. Song. Ever!
Killer Bass! And those Drums..Damn! All roads now lead to.."Twilight Zone" Period! See ya on the other side! 🎧😎
Here’s one that is a bit obscure. Try Warren Zevon “ lawyers, guns, and money “. By the way you have fans that were born in 73 as well. Just sayin.
Warren Zevon, Sentimental Hygene.
"Mr Bad Example" or "Lawyers Guns and Money" will do very nicely.
He has at least one born in 1956
And at least one born in 1970..
I think Roland the Headless Gunner was my favourite.
Maybe check out Twilight Zone from Golden Earring....another excellent song
Interesting band, I love the whole Moontan album (UK vinyl version, the version most readily available on CD replaces Big Tree, Blue Sea with Suzy Lunacy and Just Like Vince Taylor) from which Radar Love is taken but, it's a strange mix of straight ahead rock, prog and psychedelic rock.
All these artists were just on the radio. You could listen to the radio and hear awesome artists all day and night.
Yes. Watch the accelerator:) yes there were psychadelics everywhere. Discotek was the original name for a dance hall. "Disco" music became a separate thing.
I'm so glad I was alive then. This is MUSIC not that overproduced autotuned noise now. You had to have a voice and talent.
This has always been my traveling song but you have to be careful you don't speed.
This was my very favorite song for many years. I can listen to the opening bass line forever.
Please react to " Zothique" by John Waanders.
60's, 70's, & 80's bands had something lacking in almost all of today's music: Talent!
bingo none are like aero smith stones beatles led zep etc... closest is imagine dragons
I love the heavy bass in this song. I've always been partial to the rhythm section of a band.
what an unhappy looking audience...I wouldnt have been able to sit still
No perm that was his natural hair. lol
Please react to " Mystery" by Dio.
This was one of my favorites in high school!! Glad you enjoyed it, we had so much great tunes back then!! ROCK ON!!
One of the best "behind the Wheel" and get outta the way songs I'm coming thru!! playing on the radio!!!! Not bad for a Dutch band either!! Thanks for playing!
Damn I’m old! I was born in 75. I old enough to be your mom. Lol
Ilse and Barry sang Radar Love for Brenda and she loved it :) You should check it out!
Also you should check out Ilse DeLange because she’s our Dutch treasure. Songs like Miracle and The only thing I ever got right are definitely worth it !!!
Rinus Gerritsen, bass guitar, George Kooymans, lead guitar, Barry Hay, Lead singer, and Cesar Zuiderwijk, drummer.
Yes! These cats are from my country 😁👍. One of the most succesfull international Dutch acts. Went to a lecture from the drummer a few years ago. Cool guy, and awesome drumming skills as well 👌
Hey I`m from Scotland but the Hermann Brood album Shpritsz is pretty special, to me at least.
@@markwilkie3677 ah good ol' mr Brood 🍞 I live near Zwolle, his birth town he couldn't wait to get away from haha. Still a statue of him over there though, near het Hedon (music venue)
@@stofopdenaald132 I'm gonna visit his statue. It was my German girlfriend/wife who introduced me to him.
Back in the day lol. Thanks for reply
@@markwilkie3677 if you wait till we can jump on the musical bandwagon again, you can visit the statue and catch some bands all in the same spot 😜👍
@@stofopdenaald132 Give me a shout when you can make it. I get 7 weeks hols in the summer :) Just been listening to some Simple Minds for first time in years tonight, forgot how good their old stuff was. Love Nick Cave, and also what Blixa Bargeld is up to nowadays.
Not everyones cup of tea though...
George Kooymans, the guy on guitar was recently diagnosed with A.L.S. which meant the end of the band.
Edit: Disco was the German tv program they were appearing on.
Edit 2: I was just 21 when this came out.
I've seen several bands playing under this Disco banner. Pretty sure it was a European music program kind of like American Bandstand. The only difference is the zombies sitting in the audience. How can you sit still during a song like this ? Must have been a house rule. FYI - this is the studio version synced up to the video of the live performance.
That is the reason... They were not playing live.
it was a German show, audience was told to sit still and performance was not live.......
Yeah, that bass really drives this tune.
This song has rocked for a long time. 😎
I was 14 the year your mother was born! On a visit to see cousins in West Virginia at that time we had hoth the idea and opportunity to ride motorcycles on a new stretch of highway, opened a week later as Interstate 79, that went right by their house. 90 mph and smooth as glass. There was a radio and good speakers on that bike and “Radar Love” was jammin’ Also another great one called “Right Place, Wrong Time,” which we certainly were, by Dr. John. Great tune. I had fun hearing your take on this. Thank you.

Keep em coming. .
From someone born in 1962, I’ve heard all the music. And you’re right, you loved the music whatever it was and no one judged you.
Me too 10/04/1973
