    Hey, M1 cultist here, just stopping by to let you know that you only need to make quick follow up shots if you miss, which myself and every other Garand owner have never done. I actually had to look up what it meant to "miss a shot" because that is a brand new concept to me. Maybe the problem isn't in the M1 Garand for not being able to make quick follow up shots, but rather it is on you for not being able to hit your shots.

    I used to work for Glock. They are just up the road from me. I have built hundreds of thousands of them. Yet when I tell people ( online and in person) that ( when I worked there - mid 2010ish) that they are built on plywood /sawhorse tables by mostly Vietnamese women ( VERY few Glock assemblers can speak English) using only a plastic hammer and a punch. That the only mechanical tool used is an old broken press for the sights. That there are black magic markers on the tables to touch up the finish when one is (often) dropped. ...... as a response I get routinely called a lair , screamed at and have even had a few death threats. I ask these people " If you have never worked there or even been inside the building, how can you can me a lair"? That does no good... And then I have my entertaining Glock stories... Manufacturing screw ups that most every factory employee can tell about their products. One time I and a couple other armorers took hammers and destroyed 10,000 brand new Glocks. When I was there, a Glock cost $28.00 to produce. Oh yea.... They are great guns ( if you don't mind not having any safety). I have a bunch of them.

Not a pleasant thing to hold on to in the desert. I have at present cut my cache down to approx 100 guns. I must say that I also will never own a Glock. I absolutely love my 1911 though and for what some may feel is an odd reason. I have fired many pistols but nothing has ever felt as good in my hand as that 100 year old (okay mine is not that old) hunk of iron. It seems like an extension of my arm and that is worth a lot.

    Awesome video! 🍺😁👍
    I love the 1911, but mainly because it feels so good in the hand. Well balanced. It's "just right" for my larger than average sized hands. Also, in a 10 mm or .357 mag, it's fun to shoot.
    Glocks, on the other hand... I'm not a fan. They definitely don't suck, I just don't like the way they look or feel in my hands. Not my bag.
    The M1 is a proven weapon. If you take care of it, it takes care of you. I can understand why some people don't like it, but I don't understand why anyone would hate it.
    The FAL... all I can say is that anyone who hasn't used one (which is most people) don't have anything worthwhile to say about it. I've fired my share if 7.62 rounds out of Fabrique Nationale arms; and while they aren't my weapon of choice, they sure are effective. I daresay even reliable! An FN C1 was my best friend when was in the army. They're biggest fault: way too damned heavy!

      Speaking of "the gun," ever see The Way of the Gun, with Benecio Del Toro, Julliette Lewis, James Caan and Ryan Phillipe? Do yourself a favor. The movie skewers Hollywood's love affair with violence at the same time in genuflects at it. A legitimate question I've been asking myself recently is: why does our society love violence in art, but mostly reject sex as a worthwhile subject for art? If I had to choose what I'd want in my personal life, I'd choose sex. Wouldn't anybody?

    A curiosity you may not know about the Italian army infantry. When I served there in the two years from 1988 to 1990 the M1 Garand was still (and remained for at least other 5 years that I know of) THE service rifle. We had a FAL (Fucile Automatico Leggero) too (only for the use of the officers and never to be soiled by the touch of common cannon fodder), but it was NOT the one you displayed in this video. It was a M14 inside the army rechristened as FAL. The reason? Classified information, I'd guess. No one I asked to could get me a straight answer.

  • @donwild50
    @donwild50 3 года назад

    I joined the Corps in 1968 and trained on an M-14. A firearm which has taken a lot of flack but is still essentially a very fine weapon...especially if its every aspect was drilled into your psyche by a group of men in Smoky the Bear hats. In VN I carried a first generation M-16 which jammed on the third round I ever fired...in the middle of a night time firefight. I've fired later generations and they've pretty much made it right (especially since the anti M-16 fanatics decided to include cleaning kits and actually provided ammunition with the right kind of powder.) BUT...about 4 years ago my dentist, who is very much into firearms let me fire his WWII vintage Garand for the first time. Expecting something like the forerunner of the M-14, I fired the first round out of the M1...and thought "Damn but this thing is sweet!" Once I fixed the dope, it was just lovely. I would buy one.

    Great video! As an owner of several Glocks, a handful of 1911s, and a FAL, I'm guilty of some of the silliness you talked of. But really, we live in the golden age of civilian firearms technology. Sig, H&K,Walther, Smith and Wesson, Springfield, Ruger, etc etc, there have never been so many reliable, affordable, usable guns to choose from, and the ammunition we have to choose from has similarly advanced by leaps and bounds. I'm just happy to see people excited about the sport and concerned about preserving our rights to keep and bear. Keep making these wonderful videos!

      @@josh_da_boss_hello4571 the M14 ws a terrible rifle for what it was meant for. It was too heavy, the ammo was way too powerful for a general purpose rifle and it was way too expensive and delicate for the purpose. Every bit as reliable as the Glock, but instead of changing magazines, you simply buy eight high points and pull them out of their holsters like a modern day pirate. That is how much less expensive the equally reliable Hi-Point point is.
    You can still buy Glocks in the gun shops locally, but all the high points have sold out.
    Oh, and the high points are actually made with metal instead of plastic.
