I Inherit (and Defile) a Mint, *Unfired* WWII Pistol

- In this episode of TFBTV, @JamesReeves inherits a Colt 1903 Hammerless Pocket pistol in .32ACP. This pistol is pristine, mint - unfired. This specific 1903 was issued to James step-grandfather, who was a brigadier general. James eventually inherited it. It was never handled or shot before James got it, but what's the fun in that? James sends this gun to get re-coated with a camo paint job and add an optics cut for a Sig Romeo Zero/Holosun 407k/507k footprint, and then takes it to the range...

Of course RUclips doesn’t want anyone to have any type of knowledge about on how to use and handle a firearm properly! Because if that was the case then there would be no need to band them due to an AD and someone hitting the Control Alt Delete button on them selves. But, great video as always. And I wonder how many people didn’t watch till the end and will be telling people you took your step dad’s ,papaws colt from the war and Gucci’ed it up!😂
Me at the start of the video "He can't possibly make more off this video than the value of the gun he's ruining." Me at end of video: "Clever girl..."
US Armament is still producing the colt 1903
That was pretty crafty.. ngl. I was thinkin' in the back of my mind, 'what the actual fck is going on here!! Is he really just going to do this?!' Then the moment came.. We've been had.. But, the original Colt 1903 was safe. That restoration on the other C1903 was nice!! 🤌
Watching James take out all the accessories, show the paperwork, and read off it's lineage is like watching a teenager take off her top in slasher flick. You know something is about to get murdered, you are filled with dread and you can't look away at the horror.
Why a teenager tho?
Cause nobody wants 20 years “old” 🐈
😂
You guys have issues

I’d give the original comment 20 thumbs up if I could. I kept watching knowing there was a chance I would be utterly disgusted by the outcome. Well done James! I’ve owned a 1903 and it is an outstanding pistol that someone should update and resurrect!

Jesus fucking Christ, James…😫
Agree.
Watch until the end😂
I almost unsubbed lmao
I Swear man
First I felt like throwing up, then I fell in love with the modern take on a classic pistol, and then I had a wave of relief come over me when you finally revealed this was a prank 😂
Dang I should’ve finished it, spoiled it for myself
Oh thank Lenin
I second that
I was figuring this was an early April fools joke... then you took it out of the box and totally got me. Gotta say for a moment there I lost all respect, I actually almost shed a tear. Well played sir, and good job on the resto!
He ruined the other one.
You either die a hero or live long enough to become a Fudd. Honestly, this would have made for a great April's fools prank but since it's still March it almost got me. Was like, "Oh No, James went full bubba on an old gun" 😅
Since he released this video before April's fools it makes me wonder what he still has up his sleeve...
Right? The redneck-wrap on such an iconic gun is just egregiously disrespectful :D His deadpan deliver sold it, TBH.

Hi James, that gun you customized can really group well. I kind of think Colt should take this video seriously because the 1903 with modern sights would be really something
I remember a company announcing a reproduction version a few years ago. Can’t remember which company, though.
If by something you mean another overpriced Colt then yes.
@@donalddicorcia2433 It was Colt, but they had someone else build it. It was crazy expensive for what it was. It's a piece of Colt history they could mine with modern production for sure. It would be something to compete with Beretta's new 80X.
Chamber it in .380 or 9mm though, .32 is a joke.
From what I hear, they are staying busy enough cocking up CZ-USA's erstwhile reputation for good CS.
At first I was thinking “why would you do that?!” But seeing how much joy it brought him made me forget all that and just appreciate it with him
His gun, his choice. Even if he did it to the real thing that’s on him. However I’m sure the guilt would overcome the joy of shooting the historical piece. (Unfortunately the story of the gun is it belonged to a great person, and wasn’t used. That makes the story less compelling then a pair of his dress shoes he wore when he met the president. It’s a family story, not a museum story and I’m glad he shared it with us.)
kinda of my thoughts also, I was upset at the slide milling but I was thinking hey its his gun, so glad it was bullshiff
Bruh didnt even finish the video 💀
I have a weird appreciation for .32 ACP & this is easily the coolest .32 ACP I've ever seen.
Every element of this video is perfect. I always found James entertaining but my respect for him just increased to another level. Well done sir.
Once it's in a museum you have a fantastic tax write off. The value of the display is what you would take for it, not what dealers pay because of the providence of the piece. It's a rich person's tax loophole.
That’s why I love to buy art! Even if it’s freaking ugly
This is easily a million dollar pistol... for tax purposes
For .380, see the Model 1908.

Honestly, I think these make great carry guns anyways. Colt could update them a bit and I'm sure they would sell like hotcakes in 380 which is seeing a bit of a revival.
Agreed but keep it in 32 ACP…it’s faster, flatter, and prints tiny groups
@@donh1572 also a lot less common. For a actual shooter, I'd want .380. More ammo selection as well.

Yeah it's weird how 380 is coming back. I never stopped shooting it and carried a 380 for a few years. I'm pretty excited about the new Beretta cheetah 80x. Can't wait to see some new options.
Now I want a modern 1903 in .32acp & maybe even .30 super carry as well... offer steel, aluminum, and even polymer frames.

Dude....you about killed me! I was making amends saying to myself "well it's his and he can do what he wants" but felt a piece of me dying at the same time. You're awesome!
As I was watching the beginning of this video, I kept thinking...
I can forgive you for being a lawyer, but could never forgive a travesty as severe as messing up a pristine 1903! I held out hope that you wouldn't really do something so horrific and were just playing us. 😮
Well played! I actually like the idea of "modernizing" a really ratty old specimen of a classic firearm and think it came out pretty nicely.
I'm just glad I don't have to un-subscribe from the channel! 😊
Ratty? Wtf its pristine lmao
@domosRAGE I'm thinking you might not have watched the video all the way through? Just sayin'... LOL
At first, I wanted to cry seeing such a well documented, pristine firearm being converted to that, but I am so glad I kept watching to find out that you restored a beat up one instead.
Beautiful ❤. Both your love for the old pistol and you grandfather and father. Not to mention lovingly restoring the orher gun. Have to say i did not like the coating but hearing the state it was in. Now I love it.
This story hits home, I lost my grandpa on Christmas eve 2022 and I inherited his picture album from when he was stationed in Alaska during ww2 but I also got my great grandpa's Bible that states on the first page "taken from the dead, couldn't locate the family 1918" he was a chaplain and I also got some of his letters which are insane and that's coming from someone who's spent a total of 25 months in combat as an infantryman
OMFG! You really had me going. I couldn't believe that anyone would do that to their grandfather's pristine Colt pistol, especially a true gun lover. I'm really glad I watched the entire video because, when you pulled out the real thing, in original condition, at the end, to say I was relieved would be a gross understatement. Thank you for sharing and, for not fucking up your grandpa's mint condition gun. 😂

Good idea not doing this video April 1! Everyone would have known up front the real deal! Very nicely done, it was cool to see your mint 1903 with such historical value, as well as what a rust-bucket parts gun can be turned into.
I’d love to own that rust bucket but that mint historical gun is a blessing and a burden. Definitely don’t want that.

This shows you that .32acp could be a legit caliber if more guns were chambered for it. I wish we would do to .32acp what we did to improve 9mm. Keep up the good work James. Its just like resto-modding a classic car.
Agreed. Plus when you go to the range, most people are bad shooters, even though they think they are good. I just shake my head
.30 super carry is the updated .32acp
@@Swishersweetcigarilo no it’s not, way to much recoil, nowhere near as fast in accurate follow up shots
@@Swishersweetcigarilo No it's not .32 acp is much more popular and you can actually find boxes of it in a gun store. I've never seen a single pistol or box of ammo on the shelf for 30 sucker carry, and it isn't likely to ever get popular considering there were no new pistols chambered for .30 SC at shot show but there were a few 5.7 pistols. 30 SC could have been a good idea if it was lower pressure than 9mm, then it could shine in ultra concealable pistols, but with 50K PSI you are going to need a gun the size of 9mm to contain the pressure, not to mention recoil is about the same as a 9mm.
Buffalo bore did it's a 75 gr hard cast .32acp making it bout equal to .380acp.
Found a colt 1903 in my grandfather's sock drawer disassembled and rusted. After a tedious restoration, it works as smooth as butter and the action is crisp, a little pitting but still looks good. I say do what makes you happy James, it is your story and investment in the gun that makes its value. Keep it up..PS 32.ACP is still lethal at 25-50 yd with those connections you made, I say it's still better than a .22LR.
I commend you sir. As the owner of a 93 year old unfired colt vest pocket. It is what is your passion. If updating is your thing sweet. That pistol is amazing in both forms. 100 years old and runs better than the plastic garbage today.
My father inherited a 1903 from my grandfather, I expressed to him that I wanted it, but he apparently sold it😢
I'm still looking for one but was unaware of the 380 version. This amalgamation build is so so wrong, yet so so right!
It's like a ham, honey, peanut butter sandwich, sounds like a total abomination, but your first daring bite leaves you in a heavenly disbelief. James that updated 1903 is an equivalent to taking a model T and making it into a hotrod.
I FUCKING LOVE IT! also I did curse your name, but also was like it's your gun do with it what you like, so glad you kept your families prestigious heirloom whole.
Love TFB TV
I would also argue it gives more people options when it comes to carry guns. Hear me out. A lot of gun control heavy states have exemptions on older guns like this. So if the gun has say poor finish but is mechanically in serviceable condition or can be made serviceable again, why not give it all the modernity you can. I’m not a huge fan of pistol red dots but that set up beats the pants off the original sights.
I waited and waited for the joke to end! Finally, I knew as the conclusion was coming on, and there were some time left that perfect gun was safe.
I wasn't sure what to think about this video, but was compelled to view the outcome. This one is informative and I love the history you covered. Thanks James for another awesome video!

Ya know what James
That’s freaking awesome
My dad passed several years ago , he served ( volunteered) from 39 to 46 then again in Korea and they attempted to draft him for Vietnam … while his two oldest sons were there( at least that’s what I was told , referring to Vietnam )
Having said that he had several old weapons
A Damascus double barrel ten gauge for example that I dreamed he would pass on to me
Anyway he also had an 870 wing master deluxe? I dunno it had all the bells and whistles
And of all the nostalgia in the other guns that went to siblings
I got that darned 870
I was crushed , he knew I wanted that’s ole ten gauge
Then my sister told me, dads fave gun was that 870 no matter what story he told it was about that gun, the others were tools , this was his friend
I enjoy and use it because that’s what dad did
God bless for truly appreciating your step dad( granddads ) gift
Those 870's aren't made like they use to be.
My dad's m1 carbine. And 16ga 870 wingmaster are the only ones I want when the time comes. My sister can have the war time 3006.
Back in the day… my employers and I had a parkerizing party. We refinished Mosins, Enfields, a couple of .410 shotguns, an Argentine 1911, and a 1904 .32acp with waffenampt stamps. You gotta realize, that once upon a time, all this stuff was disposable, throw away trash, because it was everywhere, and in terrible condition. We regret nothing, and still carry, use, and cherish these weapons.
I loved it. The idea of doing the modifications to the mint pistol bugged me for a minute, then it hit me: Not my gun. Not my decision. Glad the history and story of the first pistol is intact. But the mods to the other gun are really cool as well.
This is the greatest thing that I have ever seen.
I need one of these to EDC now.
Great guns but don’t carry one in the chamber. Not drop safe. Killed a few people
From the start, I thought there's no way anyone in their right mind would do such a thing to a family heirloom.😊
My father-in-law was an Army officer and fought in the Pacific in WWII at Pelieu and other battles. My mother-in-law gave me his Colt 1903. I haven't shot it but may after watching this. Thanks for sharing.
Definitely shoot it. Mine was made in 1905 and it shoots like a dream. Fits small hands well and is a great gun to introduce handguns to a new shooter with. When I have brought mine to the range with a group of people, it becomes everybody's favorite and they all want to shoot it again.
BTW .32 acp is made quite often by PPU and can be found easily.

Don't know if it was possible, but front serrations would have made this thing even cooler! Great video!
I've had my grandfather's Pocket 1903 for many years now, and I had it professionally restored when I first received it. It is a lot of fun to shoot, as .32 ACP is such a low recoiling cartridge in this gun. While it was one of the best concealed pistols of the early 20th century, it is very obsolete now for that role. The very small sights on the gun are one of the key reasons not to consider it for modern carry, but I've always wondered how adding a modern optic to the slide might fix that. Glad someone went to the trouble and expense to find a beat up 1903 and have it properly modified to find out. You should share this gun with others in the shooting community to see how they compare it to modern concealed guns. You have made something that is probably unique and allows comparison of a very successful older design's core mechanicals with one of its chief limitations removed.
Actually wept a couple minutes in. You are fortunate to have had these men in your life. So relieved you were playing us.

I have a couple of guns people think should be safe queens but I shoot all the time, so I was *kind of* with you on the reasoning for updating the General's old sidearm, but did flinch when you pulled "it" out of the box with the new camo finish - on the other hand, they are beautiful guns to shoot and if it meant you were going to use it, more power to you... glad to know you were just messing with me!

I hate that dork. If he ever shows up on vinwiki I'll leave the car community as a whole 😅not that anyone cares about such a vague threat but lol I will
I have a new version of your gun that was made in Ephrata PA by US armament and it was in the Colt catalog a few years ago they were made under license for Colt and I think you can still buy them great video I knew you couldn’t screw up nice old gun
Currently watching and hoping that the last minute of the video will show that he did this to a 2nd 1903 that was abused beyond saving. Hoping.....🤞🤞
Edit:
Not gonna lie. You had me in the first 14 minutes, James. You beautiful demented bastard.😘
Well I watched all the way through and until I go to the end I couldn’t believe you did that….glad you restored the other one…it looks great.
Way cool! My grandfather, a USMC Colonel who served in Nicuragua, China, and the Pacific WWII, gave me the exact same gun of his and his 1911 Colt 45 issued to him that he had in Nicuragua and I have photos of him there wearing it. That's a sweet little gun. Mine was not in good finish so I had it refinished shortly after getting it 40 years ago. I once was very close to being shot in the head by this gun when I took a cute lady to the range and she accidently discharged this pistol right next to my head (pointed almost right at me) thinking it was empty. The slide on this does not lock back after the last bullet is fired. Also, I have read it can discharge if dropped (perhaps the new ones have changed this).
